00:00But the big news of the day is Astros news, and that is Carlos Correa.
00:05Carlos Correa, who was a versatile piece for this team,
00:09thought to play third base while Pena was here,
00:13but now that Pena has been injured, he's been playing a lot of short,
00:16been playing some third, he will be out for the season.
00:20Carlos Correa will need season-ending surgery on a torn tendon in his left ankle.
00:25Recovery time is six to eight months.
00:28He was swinging in the cages yesterday, felt a pop, and went down in pain.
00:37That is what happened.
00:39We can hear from Carlos Correa himself as he first speaks about the prognosis of this ankle injury.
00:51I need surgery on the tendon, my left ankle,
00:56which will require for me to miss the rest of the season.
00:59How tough is it to get that news?
01:02Tough, really tough.
01:04Not what I was expecting, but now it's time to deal with it, face it head-on, and focus on
01:11the rehab.
01:12Yeah, that's Carlos Correa, by the way.
01:15He just gave up a three-run bomb.
01:18Almost got out of that inning.
01:19Lance just gave up a three-run homer, so the Dodgers now lead six to one.
01:28I'm sorry that pause was because now Joe Espada has decided to come out and to go get him.
01:33Not after all the wild pitches and what appeared to be some sort of a blister or fingernail issue.
01:37That was a no-brainer for me.
01:39Here comes Joe, clapping his damn hands and walking out.
01:43So Lance McCullers is not able to make it through three innings.
01:47It is six to one, two outs.
01:49Here comes Jason Alexander into the game as the Astros are going to have to come back.
01:56They're down six to one to win this thing.
01:58All right, that was Carlos talking about the injury, letting us know, as we said, he's out for the season.
02:03This is him, in his own words, explaining what happened.
02:09I was hitting the cage, normal day, feeling great.
02:12I went through my whole routine, took a swing, and just felt a pop.
02:15It just completely snapped on me, and then it fell to the ground and couldn't put weight on it.
02:19It's just when you landed, like playing a normal swing.
02:22It's a normal swing, and it just, it just, I felt like a loud pop.
02:26I heard it and felt it, and right away I knew something was wrong.
02:30This is, uh, I, I, I'm, I'm serious, Clint Tyler.
02:34I have never, ever experienced anything like this with one team.
02:39Over, what, how many years would you say this has been?
02:41Man, it feels like it's more than just last year.
02:43It goes back, if you really look at it, three seasons, man.
02:46Because Tucker was two, because Tucker in the shin was two seasons ago, right?
02:50Correct.
02:50That wasn't last year.
02:52Yeah, he was with the Cubs.
02:53Yeah.
02:53Jinx.
02:54Gotcha.
02:54Double jinx.
02:55Got you.
02:57Got you.
02:58Woo!
03:00That's a double.
03:02That's a double.
03:03Okay.
03:04But, uh, but no, he, uh, so this has been about three years where they've just had these
03:09weird freak injuries, and this is another one.
03:13Man, my man's taking swings in the cages, and he's out six to eight months with an ankle
03:18issue, and, man, I don't know.
03:19I guess he is a player that has been injury-prone at times, and our guy Hotel Lobby, Bobby Nightingale,
03:26decided to fly through with a tweet himself saying, well, this is the reason why the
03:31Giants and other teams would not sign him to the long-term 13-year deal because of right
03:37ankle issues.
03:38Oh, was it really an ankle issue?
03:40I thought it was something.
03:41Well, the right ankle, the right ankle was a reason why he didn't get, like, from the
03:46Giants, and...
03:47I thought that was a, I thought that was something that's bad or something.
03:50That's what Bob came flying through out of nowhere.
03:52Well, I mean, if Bob's got it, hell, he ain't.
03:53I mean, he couldn't wait to get that off.
03:55Yeah, to express that, yeah, it said it was the medicals on Correa's right ankle that
04:01prompted the Giants and Mets to back out of $300 million-plus contracts in 2022, about
04:08winter before he signed with the Twins.
04:10But this is just, I mean, in this year, and as we see it right now, so he is out
04:14for the
04:15season.
04:15They've lost Hunter Brown, who knows when he's going to start and come back in an Astros
04:21uniform.
04:22Emai is whatever.
04:24They've just lost their starting catcher.
04:26Their shortstop, who was their best position player last year, Pena, has been out most
04:31of the season.
04:32They lost, what, their third starter coming in in Javier.
04:36They've just lost so many players.
04:38This is just insane.
04:39You've got your number one starter, and you've got at least four guys that would be in a
04:44six-man rotation are injured at this point, including that starter.
04:47You've got your closer, who's one of the best in the league, that's out.
04:51You have got your top two shortstops are injured.
04:55You've got your top two center fielders are both out.
04:58You mentioned the catcher is injured.
05:00Not about Jake.
05:01Well, I mean, and Tramiel would be your backup center, center fielder.
05:04I mean, it's, and I haven't even mentioned the left fielders because I don't know who to
05:08mention.
05:08I mean, you've got DeZenzo, you've got Zach Cole, I mean, you've got a handful of guys
05:14that could be out there that have been injured as well.
05:16So, yeah, I mean, it's crazy, crazy to think it, but a Carlos Correa injury, as painful
05:25as it is to my heart, that is the one that this organization is prepared to weather the
05:31storm of.
05:33With keeping Izak Paredes around is, I mean, you're in a position where now you can have
05:37a normal lineup.
05:38You don't have the luxury of having an extra all-star infielder that can, that can swing
05:41the bat really well.
05:42As long as they get paying you back.
05:44Yeah.
05:44At some point you got to get, you got to get paying you back with that being a hamstring.
05:47I got to think that's going to happen sooner rather than later, even though we had, we
05:50hadn't heard a peep from him.
05:52I think he is in Sugar Land.
05:53So I think he is in Sugar Land along with Emai and, and, and Josh Hader, who hopefully they'll
06:00get back, but who knows with him that may be spring training still for him.
06:04But Carlos Correa out for the year as they just traded for him last year.
06:09And like you said, good thing they kept Izak Paredes around and they have, they have, you
06:16know, coverage there where they have a legitimate third baseman.
06:19And when they get paying you back, they have a legitimate shortstop.
06:22And so they'll be fine and maybe they can tinker with, with Altuve and the DH spot a little
06:27bit more with this.
06:29But you, obviously you'd rather have Carlos Correa in, but he is a, he is out for the season.
06:35So the latest, latest there in terms of an injury, by the way, again, six to one right
06:41now, the, the Astros and just, you just can't like, well, that's the deal Clint.
06:46You just cannot depend on pitching.
06:50I swear, you know, I wanted to come in and really talk about the positivity and maybe
06:55the pitching is starting to stabilize.
06:58Maybe it's starting to stabilize because before walking in today, they pitched well against
07:02the Red Sox.
07:03Shout out to Pete Lambert.
07:04Can we give Pete a little hand?
07:05Hello.
07:06Hello.
07:06How about Pete, man?
07:07Absolutely.
07:07How about BRO?
07:08Big Pete.
07:09Yeah, big Pete.
07:11Big old Pete.
07:11Pete walks up, head up against Shohei Ohtani, best pitcher in baseball, and he, and he wins
07:17that pitcher's duel.
07:18Big time Pete.
07:20Pete goes in and does his thing.
07:22And really, when you take the Red Sox series and the first two games of this series, if you
07:26take Ryan Weiss's ass out, I mean, everybody else pitched relatively well until we arrived
07:34to Lance.
07:34And now Lance's ERA has probably reached to over seven with these six runs that he's given
07:39up.
07:40And you're right back at it.
07:41And Clint, it's the third inning, and I mean, you're out of it.
07:45Out two, I mean, out two, he's not even in the game.
07:47So, I mean, you don't even have the, I have this guy right here, man.
07:50He's swinging the bat.
07:51All right.
07:51Every since you took him out last week, he's, he's not a, he's not, he's not swinging.
07:56Yeah.
07:56He saved us last night along with Christian Walker.
07:58And now he, he pushes one down and down the third baseline with a big shift on and gets
08:02a single.
08:03Oh, shoot.
08:03He's an Aggie.
08:03Do you know he's an Aggie?
08:04He is.
08:04Tyler didn't even know he's an Aggie.
08:06He's a, he said, he said, get him.
08:07He's a skinny gentleman.
08:09Yeah.
08:09Tyler, yeah, he's, he's, he's a skinny, he's a skinny gentleman.
08:13Tall drink of water right there, boy.
08:15Yeah, he is.
08:16But, but yeah, I mean, you're just down six to one, man.
08:18This is, this has kind of been a lot of the story of the season for the Astros.
08:22The good news is, is it, it seems to be contagious because it, it, it, it, it, it spread across
08:28the field to the Dodgers and Glass now is, but it didn't last.
08:31He pulled a Christian Javier and got yanked out in the top of the second, or I guess, bottom
08:36of the second when, when he took the mound.
08:40So hopefully you get, you get into their bullpen here a little bit.
08:42Maybe, maybe we can keep, we can make this thing interesting.
08:44We'll see.
08:45We'll see you next time.
