00:00It's been a lot of work. We have two salons in Brooklyn, actually. We have one located at 199 Malcolm
00:12X Boulevard, and then we have another one on Empire.
00:17It's been a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices, you know, just to open up these shops, even to
00:23open the first one to begin with, now having a second location. Yeah, it could be stressful, but I enjoy
00:29it.
00:30Her success in New York City has not come without considerable challenges, as she skillfully balances the demands of being
00:38a devoted wife, a mother to a son with a complex heart condition, and a dedicated businesswoman.
00:45It's very stressful because just the balance being in the shop and having to take him to all his different
00:53checkups to make sure he's OK.
00:56Her 11-year-old son, Darius Frank, has faced ongoing medical challenges in New York City, requiring frequent hospitalizations, specialized
01:06care, and multiple surgeries due to his complex heart condition.
01:10At one critical point, his condition became life-threatening, and she came close to losing him.
01:17Just last month, the 17th of March, he had a medical procedure that he had to do.
01:27His oxygen levels were dropping drastically, and he couldn't play, he couldn't do anything in school,
01:33so they had to stop him from taking any activities in school, and he had to do a catheterization to
01:42help clear whatever was going on in the heart so his oxygen levels could go back up.
01:49Mrs. Thomas expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support of her husband, particularly during moments when the challenges feel overwhelming.
01:59A trained educator, she and her husband are also committed to giving back to their home in Tobago.
02:06They plan to return to the island to host educational classes focused on the art and maintenance of locks,
02:13sharing their knowledge and empowering others within the community.
02:17Yeah, we're looking at July to come back to Tobago and host a class here as well, teaching, you know,
02:23how to do locks,
02:25how to do the crochet method, because there are different techniques in doing the crochet method.
02:29So, yeah, I'm very excited for that.
