00:00Let's play a game, Red!
00:02What did you have in mind?
00:04I call it...
00:06Now what hurts?
00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're showcasing some of our favorite fighting games to star licensed characters.
00:23But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long.
00:26So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:32Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tournament Fighters
00:42Konami gave us more than a few solid beat-em-ups during the initial boom of the Ninja Turtles,
00:47but it also gave us a pretty fun fighting game in Tournament Fighters.
00:51Although it was released on NES, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo, the latter had a larger roster with more varied
00:58movesets, making it the overall better version.
01:01It's a really fun time capsule to look back on now, with a big chunk of the roster made up
01:06of obscure side characters.
01:15Although it, like many others, got a lot of comparisons to Street Fighter 2, it still had the same polish
01:21of Konami's other TMNT titles.
01:23And it was fun for fans to take their favorite turtles and duke it out against each other.
01:35Naruto Shippuden, Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
01:47Yeah, it's safe to expect a few anime games to pop up on this list.
01:51Multiple franchises make for easy transitions to a fighting game, and of the many games based on the Naruto universe,
01:58Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is the cream of the crop.
02:01The story mode is a particular highlight.
02:04Although a tad short, the fourth great ninja war is told with emotional weight and visual flair that makes the
02:10source material proud.
02:19It also comes with an impressive roster of over 100 characters, including DLC.
02:25Developer CyberConnect2 outdid themselves, crafting a stylistically breathtaking 3D arena fighter that also made legions of passionate fans happy.
02:41Power Rangers Battle for the Grid
02:50If you were to only look at the review scores of Battle for the Grid, you might not expect much
02:55beyond a bland 3v3 fighter,
02:57its lack of content being one of the biggest points of criticism.
03:01But, over time and through updates, the developers turned it into something much more.
03:06Some of the things added since launch include a full story mode, new stages, and a ton of DLC characters
03:13from across the Power Rangers history.
03:22More importantly, the early edition of Crossplay helped build a genuine community of fans, not bound by platform,
03:30that could celebrate each update and evolution together, while beating the snot out of each other.
03:35And isn't that what this is really all about?
03:54A bit of a deeper cut, since it was never officially released outside of Japan, and even then as a
04:00Super Famicom exclusive, Endless Duel is a must-play for any Gundam fan who gets the opportunity to do so.
04:13It has some of the strongest presentation of any fighting game on the system.
04:18The character sprites are phenomenal, and the audio design is immaculate.
04:22Developer Natsume's combo system got a lot of favorable comparisons to Capcom,
04:27with a well-balanced roster of unique Gundams helping the game differentiate itself as more than a clone.
04:32It's a shame this wasn't released in the West, yet it still managed to find a following and have a
04:37brief presence in a few eSports events.
04:48Melty Blood, type Lumina.
04:59Alright, another deep cut for you.
05:01The Melty Blood franchise was originally inspired by the Tsukihime, or Moon Princess IP, which started as a Japanese-only
05:09visual novel before spinning off into an anime and manga.
05:12It developed a cult following in the 2000s, but came back extremely strong after an absence of over a decade,
05:19with 2021's Type Lumina.
05:29It's another anime fighter with gorgeous hand-drawn characters, but it was also praised for building off of the system
05:36in previous games while also being much more approachable for newcomers.
05:40It's too bad it didn't make much of a splash in the West, as it's actually a decent entry point
05:45for fighting game newbies while still being a ton of fun.
05:48I'm still, I'm still未熟.
05:51I don't want to go too fast.
05:54JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Heritage for the Future
06:04It was only a matter of time before we got to Capcom, they know a thing or two about making
06:09good fighting games.
06:11An updated version of the 1998 arcade original, Heritage for the Future took the already strong blend of JoJo's and
06:18Capcom, and made it even better by adding eight new characters.
06:28The game looks incredible, with creator Hirohiko Araki even having consulted.
06:33And being from the same team behind Street Fighter 3, it also feels great to play.
06:38It has Capcom's quick, fluid combat system with a new stand meter, used to project each character's fighting spirit, which
06:45also alters their moveset.
06:47This brings a ton of variety, while also making it a genuinely deep competitive fighter.
07:02Injustice 2
07:11Sometimes you just want the spectacle of seeing larger-than-life titans of the DC Universe clash against each other.
07:19Injustice 2 gives you that in spades, building off of the solid foundation of the 2013 original.
07:24You embrace your rage. Without it, I would be broken. Then it serves you well.
07:32The story takes the heroes of Batman's underdog insurgency, and pits them against a group of villains led by Gorilla
07:38Grodd and Brainiac.
07:39It brings all the fun of an over-the-top comic event, with some great new additions to the roster,
07:45like Black Canary, Dr. Fate, and Poison Ivy.
07:49There's an abundance of other modes to dive into as well, and with a lineup of some of DC's most
07:54iconic heroes and villains, that means there's a wide array of fighting styles to choose from.

08:04Fist of the North Star
08:12Arc System Works is one of the most respected names in fighting games, and rightfully so.
08:18The developer has given us a few licensed gems, including a tie-in to the classic manga and anime, Fist
08:24of the North Star.
08:25The visuals are remarkably good, with vibrant character models that pop against each backdrop.
08:37Combat also comes with an extra strategic layer in the seven stars mechanic.
08:43Certain special attacks remove stars from this meter, opening you up to an insta-kill attack should you run out.
08:49Not only does it bring an additional thrill to each fight, but it matches perfectly with the brutal martial arts
08:55violence of its source material.
09:04Dragon Ball FighterZ
09:10You're gonna run! Now's your chance!
09:13Arc System works, showing off their brilliance with a license once again.
09:16Dragon Ball FighterZ is one of the best fighting games ever made, and certainly the best one that uses the
09:22DBZ license.
09:24The character animation is some of the finest we've ever seen, making all the difference when it comes to style,
09:29personality, and that special feeling you get when you land an awesome, ultra-powerful attack.
09:44It is fast and fluid, and its combat is deep and addictive. Plus, it allows you plenty of opportunities to
09:51unleash a wide range of power sets with an impressive, historic roster. It is everything you could want from a
09:57Dragon Ball Z fighting game.
10:01Hey! You held back to me!
10:03You've got more in you than this, don't you, Sixteen?
10:06Marvel vs. Capcom 2. New Age of Heroes.
10:10Who will survive?
10:12In getting it!
10:14In getting it!
10:15This feels a little like cheating, since half the roster is made up of original Capcom characters, but the other
10:22half uses the Marvel license, and it's the best fighting game of all time, so sorry, but my hands are
10:27tied.
10:35A game that defined the arcade era it released in, and a must-have at home for any fighting game
10:41fan, this was a chaotic symphony of superheroes and video game legends that remains an undisputed champion.
10:48Easy to pick up, difficult to master, and incredibly fun regardless, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 offers a remarkably varied experience,
10:56with every character and team-up bringing untold combo potential.
10:59The visuals, the manic energy, a roster spanning the most iconic and the most obscure, it all combines for pure,
11:07unadulterated fighting game bliss.
11:15Did we leave off one of your favorite licensed fighting games? Let us know about it in the comments, and
11:20we will see you next time.
