00:26Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long.

00:35The Roster
00:48Marvel Tocan Fighting Souls has one of the most impressive and appealing rosters we've seen in any fighting game based
00:54on superheroes.
00:55Sure, we have a lot of obvious picks here, like Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Wolverine, and yet we
01:02also have some oddballs or not-so-obvious picks, like Danger, Deadpool, and Ms. Marvel.
01:17But what really brings the entire base roster together are the villains.
01:22Villain picks are something many crossover fighting games, like Super Smash Bros., forget about way too often.
01:28So, seeing Green Goblin and Carnage be a part of Marvel Tocan, alongside Loki, Doctor Doom, and Magneto,
01:36it really shows that the roster is going to be pretty balanced for fans of heroes and villains.
01:42Mutantkind shall rise, and I will be the one to lead the way!
01:49The Art Direction
02:00We really need to talk about the art direction here, because holy crap, everything about this game is visually striking
02:07to an incredible degree.
02:09I think the only thing that has me most attracted to Marvel Tocan is just how it blends comic book
02:14character design of the old days
02:16with extreme, exaggerated designs you would expect in a fighting game or anime, especially one developed by Arc System Works.
02:30The menus themselves follow a similar motif, where the menus and icons you select pop out more in color,
02:38while everything around it looks more like rough drafts of a comic book.
02:48The Character Animation
02:59Sorry to go on another entry about visuals and art, but I'm somebody who used to study character animation, so
03:05can you really blame me?
03:08Marvel Tocan boasts some of the coolest character animation out of the entirety of Marvel Games' history.
03:20From the poses to the dash and running animations, to even the way characters block,
03:26Arc System Works put a ton of expression behind every character's movement that perfectly conveys their personality.
03:33Heck, even the most basic of supers have some fantastic animation work between the movements and camera shots.
03:49Gameplay Pacing
03:59Okay, now we can talk about the gameplay itself.
04:02My apologies for taking so long.
04:04In case you don't already know, Marvel Tocan is a tag fighter that has you assemble a team of four
04:10fighters.
04:11This may sound chaotic on paper, and in some ways, it can be.
04:15However, you don't have to worry about juggling four different health bars.
04:19Your team shares one health bar, and while this sounds like a bad thing, it actually helps with the pacing
04:25of the battle.
04:31Instead of playing best 2 out of 3, like most fighting games, Marvel Tocan is set in a best 3
04:37out of 5 format.
04:38So, you have plenty of opportunity to turn things around if you're struggling in a fight,
04:43and fights feel about as long as standard 1v1 fighting games do.
04:53The Obvious Inspiration
05:02Now, some players may look at Marvel Tocan and think,
05:05well, this is just Marvel vs. Capcom with one extra character on the team.
05:09Those folks are not entirely wrong.
05:11There are elements of Marvel Tocan that feel partially inspired by the MVC games,
05:16and not just from simply being a tag fighter.
05:19WAKUNDA!
05:21ROYALTY!
05:22Just the visuals and frenetic energy alone feel very reminiscent of MVC 2 and Clash of Superheroes.
05:30But the most noticeable element here is how the game is so easy to just pick up and play.
05:36The menus are neatly organized to help you get into fighting ASAP,
05:39and the controls are easy enough to understand that no one should feel the need to button mash mindlessly.
05:52Speaking of, Easy Controls!
06:03Upon booting up Marvel Tocan, we highly recommend you do the tutorial not because the controls are complicated,
06:10but because they are so easy to understand once you've done the tutorial.
06:19Yes, you do have light, medium, and heavy attacks, but when you understand how to pull off assists,
06:24how the meters works, how to launch and air juggle, that's when you can start doing some really cool stuff,
06:31and pulling off some of the cool stuff ends up being way more simpler than you may think.
06:36So don't skip out, even if you think you know the basic tools of fighting games.
06:46Labbing Options
06:55So of course, there is a training mode where you can try stuff out to your heart's content,
07:00experiment with combos, see every character's supers, practice against AI, whatever you want to do.
07:06But Marvel Tocan has another way for you to learn how your favorite fighters work in the form of character
07:11tutorials.
07:19This will allow you to study the different quirks of each character, what they can do to gain the advantage,
07:24and how their abilities may blend with other characters.
07:26That said, even if you know which characters you want to play as, and even if you've played the other
07:32betas,
07:33it might be in your best interest to go through these tutorials, in case you do learn something new.
07:46Kick-Ass Music
07:53One of the most interesting aspects of Marvel Tocan Fighting Souls is how Arc System Works is approaching the music,
08:00and it is a very old school approach. Many classic arcade fighting games of yore would have soundtracks
08:06where every song was the theme for a single character. Most modern fighting games keep development more
08:11traditional and just give every stage its own song. Marvel Tocan is bringing back the character-specific music,
08:19and every track slaps insanely hard.
08:29Of all the tracks, my personal favorites have been Magix, Green Goblins, and Ghost Rider's Theme.
08:42If you're a Guilty Gear fan, you especially need to hear Ghost Rider's Theme because it is Guilty Gear as
08:49hell,
08:49which makes sense because it was composed by Norichika Sato, the composer of Guilty Gear Strive and XR.
08:57Living Online
09:04If the hype is indeed real, the online scene for Marvel Tocan is going to be alive and well for
09:11a long time.
09:13Well, the game will offer enough for you to want to hop in and out of the servers at your
09:17leisure.
09:17Sure, you can just jump into matches and bounce between every fight, but if you want to chat,
09:22hang out, and play with other players a bit more casually, there is an interactive lobby.
09:36Choose your avatar, wander around the city, and have fun with your fellow fans. It's a super chill setting,
09:42so even if you just want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, you can do that.
10:02Before we continue, check out this single from Sound Mojo's Adia, Songs from Iran,
10:08reimagining Persian melodies as modern rock, metal, and pop songs. Check out the full track and album below.
10:14Call it madness if you must. I came back because my soul came back to you.
10:28And lastly, it's an Arc System Works game.
10:32Legendary Outlaws on the scene.
10:36Rocket boots, tickets, hits, yeah!
10:39Really, the main reason why you should play Marvel Token isn't just because it's a game with Marvel
10:44characters. You should also play it because Arc System Works is one of the best fighting game
10:50developers around. This studio has been in the business since 1988, and they have a rather
10:56spotless track record when it comes to fighting games between Guilty Gear,
11:00BlazBlue, Grand Blue Fantasy, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and so many more.
11:08Arc System Works goes all out on every title they put out, and Marvel Token might launch them into the
11:14mainstream space. So if you're into Marvel, if you're into fighting games, and especially if you're
11:20into Arc System Works, you need to grab Marvel Token Fighting Souls.
