00:01To live in your world
00:06Welcome to Mojo Plays
00:09And today we're taking a look at 10 fighting games
00:11That have an absurd amount of re-releases
00:21Before we begin we publish new videos all week long
00:24So be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays
00:26And ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos
00:31Dead or Alive 2
00:38Most of the Dead or Alive franchise has stuck to one release per generation
00:42Whether that was on Xbox, Xbox 360, or just a couple of different platforms
00:48But Dead or Alive 2 was one of two games that got an egregious number of re-releases
00:54For starters, the arcade version got two different versions
00:58There was the initial one at launch
01:00And the refined Millennium version
01:02As for home console
01:04You could just get Dead or Alive 2 from Dreamcast
01:07Or you could get the limited edition
01:09Or maybe you want the even more refined version on PS2
01:14Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore
01:16Which was also released on PS3 via backwards compatibility
01:19But Xbox players know the best version of Doha 2 was the remake Dead or Alive Ultimate
01:29Marvel vs. Capcom 2
01:32New Age of Heroes
01:37For a time it felt impossible to get a legitimate copy of MVC2
01:46Whether it be in physical or digital form
01:49But once upon a time, it felt like you could get the game on just about any platform you wanted
01:54First, there was the initial arcade version that got a nearly perfect port to Dreamcast
01:59Shortly after launch
02:00A couple years later, you could play a slightly botched version on PlayStation 2 and Xbox
02:06A handful of years after that, in 2009
02:08You had to then buy Marvel vs. Capcom Origins
02:12To play MVC2 on Xbox 360 and PS3
02:15You could even play it on iOS devices back in 2012
02:19And now, you're just better off getting Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
02:24Which is on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and even PC
02:27I got a copy on all of those platforms
02:38Darkstalkers series
02:39Unlike MVC2, which went through an extensive period of time in not being commercially available
02:45The Darkstalkers games have been forever preserved across legions of platforms
02:50Funny, given that we haven't had a new game since 1997
02:54Whether they were direct ports or a part of some collection
02:57All three Darkstalkers games have been available across Dreamcast, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One
03:04And just about every single PlayStation console excluding Vita
03:08Perhaps the time and effort in porting these games are cheap enough to give Capcom short-term boosts in revenue
03:14But man, you'd think Darkstalkers was this mega-popular IP that should have gotten a fourth mainline game already, hm?
03:26Dead or Alive 5
03:27Let's go!
03:29Now for business
03:31If you thought the re-releases of Dead or Alive 2 were a bit excessive, you may have forgotten all
03:37about Dead or Alive 5
03:38When that game launched in 2012, everyone was kind of assuming that this was it
03:44This was a great fighting game to close off the seventh console generation
03:48And then we got Dead or Alive Plus for PlayStation Vita, which had a bunch of new training mode options
03:54and different control schemes
03:55Then there was Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate in 2013
03:59The version that added Rachel and Momiji from Ninja Gaiden as playable characters
04:04On top of Jackie from Virtua Fighter, Ain, Leon, Murray Rose, Neo Tengu, and Phase 4
04:11And that version got a second version that was meant for free to play
04:15But why buy that game when you could get Dead or Alive 5 last round in 2015
04:20Made for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC
04:26And even that iteration got a free to play version
04:29Koei Tecmo
04:30We get it
04:32You want us to play Dead or Alive 5
04:34Please
04:35STOP
04:36Stop before you think about bringing Dead or Alive 5 Infinite over from the mobile markets in China
04:50Virtua Fighter 5
04:52Time for a combat seminar
05:00I won't lose
05:02Round 1
05:03Ready
05:04Go
05:05Perhaps Sega wasn't as crazy with VF5 as Koei Tecmo was with DOA5
05:10But even then it is crazy how long the franchise has been stuck on this particular installment
05:17Don't get us wrong
05:18VF5 is an excellent fighting game
05:20The best in the series
05:22But guys
05:23Sega
05:24This is a game from 2006
05:27That was barely any different in its final showdown form
05:31That was released in 2010
05:33And even then
05:34That was a revision to a revision that came before it
05:37Called Virtua Fighter 5 R
05:39Fast forward to 2021
05:41Where it was kind of cool seeing VF5 get remade for PS4 and Xbox One
05:46But then
05:47In 2025
05:48We get Virtua Fighter 5 Revo on PC
05:51Which was then ported to console
05:53Later in the year
05:55With Revo World Stage
05:57And it's like
05:58DUDES!
05:59Are you even working on VF6 anymore?
06:05Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
06:15To its credit Mortal Kombat has done a pretty good job at staying true to each of its games
06:20Tweaks and refinements are usually saved for the next game where they can innovate, experiment, and really try to get
06:26MK in the best state possible
06:28UMK 3 is the worst it ever got when it came to re-releases
06:32Granted, the ports for Saturn, Genesis, and SNES were all decent
06:36The same could not be said for GBA and Nintendo DS
06:40Since then, the game has only been shoved into a couple of MK-centric collections
06:45Those being Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection
06:48And 2025's Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection
06:51And lest we forget about that second arcade iteration that had online play
06:55UMK 3 WaveNet
07:02Samurai Showdown 5
07:08One could make a very strong case for how much SNK rests on its laurels by re-releasing almost every
07:14game in its portfolio
07:16Samurai Showdown 5 is no different
07:18Though the original game was released in 2003
07:21Most fans are likely familiar with the Samurai Showdown 5 Special version
07:26Which launched the following year
07:28Whether you played it on the Neo Geo AES
07:30An arcade cabinet, PC, Linux, PS Vita, or the port made for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch
07:37There is a reason why this installment in particular gets more attention from SNK
07:42This is truly the best Samurai Showdown game in the series
07:46As it features a wide number of characters from almost all of the games at that point
07:51And features some insanely refined controls and mechanics
07:59The King of Fighters series
08:08Just about every single King of Fighters game has been forever preserved
08:12Take your pick of whichever game is your favorite
08:14It's more than likely been made available on every single platform
08:18King of Fighters 94 and all of its annual sequels
08:21Have been playable on almost any and all hardware
08:24Some even went under completely different names
08:27Such as the EX games on Game Boy Advance
08:30Which were just King of Fighters 99 in 2000
08:33Obviously, there may have been a couple of spinoffs
08:36Or hyper-specific versions that have been forgotten
08:38Like the RPG centered on Kyo
08:40And the dozens of mobile spinoffs
08:43But overall, you can pretty much access any game in the franchise on modern hardware
08:56Virtua Fighter 2
09:06Yes, Sega and Virtua Fighter make yet another appearance
09:10Because history
09:12Virtua Fighter 2 was a really important game for the company
09:16And the franchise
09:16Because this was the one that allowed them to go toe-to-toe with Namco's Tekken games
09:21Although being made available on a bunch of different hardware
09:24Did not help Sega in the long run
09:26You could play VF2 on a Saturn
09:28A Genesis
09:29A PS2
09:30PS3
09:30Xbox 360
09:32And even the forgotten console made by Tiger Electronics
09:35The R-Zone
09:36This game used to be on almost everything
09:39While Tekken continued to evolve and innovate on each console
09:43Now, you just gotta own a copy of Yakuza Kiwami 2 to play Virtua Fighter 2
09:48Which is also available on almost every single modern platform
09:58Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior
10:07Street Fighter 2 is the most notorious when it comes to re-releases
10:11No joke, Capcom milked this particular entry in the series beyond the brink of death
10:17And did so even when it was making new Street Fighter games
10:20In addition to the original game
10:22You have
10:24Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition
10:26Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting
10:28Super Street Fighter 2 The New Challengers
10:31Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
10:32Hyper Street Fighter 2 The Anniversary Edition
10:35Ultra Street Fighter 2 The Final Challengers
10:38And of course
10:39Everybody's nonsensical favorite
10:41Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
10:44And cumulatively
10:46This series of games alone
10:48Has spread across multitudes of different platforms since 1991
10:53To the point where Street Fighter 2 specifically
10:56Is forever in the pop culture zeitgeist
10:59Have you played any of these games for yourself?
11:02If so, which version?
