00:01Members of the rail, tram and bus union have today taken industrial action as negotiations with Queensland Rail continue to
00:09boil over.
00:10It's resulted in a 20% reduction in services, around 300 less trains on the Queensland Rail network right across
00:18Queensland today.
00:19Now here on the Gold Coast that's resulting in some commuters seeing further upsets, delays,
00:25potentially even cancelled trains to what they might typically catch with some trains that would run every 6 minutes in
00:30peak hour reduced to every 15 minutes
00:32and trains that would run off peak hour running every 30 minutes.
00:37Now commuters had been warned that this might happen with some of those heeding that warning including people that take
00:43this heavy rail up towards Brisbane.
00:45Around the Brisbane area we've seen a bit of gridlock on the road traffic network
00:50with people instead opting to get in their car and drive instead of getting on the train here.
00:55Now I did speak to some commuters on the Gold Coast who did still say they really relied on this
01:00service
01:00and would still have to go with the ebbs and flows of the service changes.
01:04We've seen like train cancellations, we've seen the scheduling changed,
01:10yeah so just having to kind of change everything in our morning routines.
01:15And I didn't even know that there was industrial action until I saw the messages today.
01:20In Brisbane Transport Minister Brent Mickleberg has held a press conference this morning
01:24where he said it's time for the members of the union to come back to the table and negotiate with
01:29Queensland Rail.
01:30He's placed a lot of the blame for these disruptions on the members of the union
01:34and says that there is a fair offer on the table, that being 8% pay rise over three years
01:40with cost of living implements in place as well in case that issue continues.
01:45Now negotiations are set to continue with the Fair Work Commission on Thursday.
01:50Until then these delays are expected to be felt across the network.
