00:00You got to wonder what the heck is going on in Philadelphia right now,
00:03not just with the Eagles, but with the Philadelphia Phillies.
00:07Look, I've got great respect for Dave Dombrowski,
00:11the general manager of that team.
00:13He's without a doubt one of the absolutely best general managers
00:16that we've seen over the last 20 years.
00:18The job that he did when he was down with the Marlins,
00:21the job he did in Detroit, and obviously the job that he did
00:24when he was with the Boston Red Sox.
00:26But now he's got a train wreck going on with an old roster.
00:31Right now the Phillies, they look actually worse than the New York Mets.
00:36How in God's name can you look worse than the New York Mets?
00:41So in the process of what happened this past week,
00:44they end up relieving Rob Thompson of his duties as manager of the team,
00:49and they named Don Mattingly as the interim manager.
00:52And here, Dave Dombrowski ended up actually, as soon as he fired Rob Thompson,
00:58he offered the job to recently fired from the Boston Red Sox, Alex Cora.
01:03Love Alex Cora.
01:04Alex Cora, former Miami Hurricane, know him very well.
01:08He said, listen, I'm going to take time to re-energize here,
01:11and maybe we'll have a conversation at the end of the season
01:14on whether or not I'll go back and maybe take over the Philadelphia Phillies job,
01:18or maybe if they end up having a change there in New York, maybe the New York Mets.
01:23Alex Cora is going to be, without a doubt, one of the top candidates
01:27to fill numerous spots that will be when this season is over.
01:31All that being said, you know, at the beginning of the year,
01:34if you remember right with Bryce Harper being questioned by Dave Dombrowski
01:37that they needed more out of him, ask yourself this.
01:41When you're watching Bryce Harper play, are you not seeing Albert Pujols' 2.0
01:47back end of that bad contract that he signed when he was with the Anaheim Angels?
01:52I mean, at the end of the day, let's not forget, when he left St. Louis,
01:57Albert Pujols, when he was there, was hitting .330, 40 homers, 125 RBIs.
02:03When he got to Anaheim in the back end of that deal,
02:06he was a .280, 25 homer, and 70 RBI guy.
02:10He was nowhere near the player that the Angels thought they were getting.
02:15We're kind of seeing that now in a little bit of this back end
02:18of this contract here with Bryce Harper.
02:21Bryce Harper has been a really good player in Philadelphia.
02:24But has Bryce Harper been the leader that Dombrowski thought
02:28when they gave him that 10-plus-year, $35 million annual contract?
02:33No.
02:34Bryce Harper has not been that guy.
02:36He's not been the leader of that team, and he's not carried that team.
02:40You think there's any coincidence that the time when they ended up getting rid of him
02:45and moving him in Washington, the following year,
02:48the Washington Nationals won the World Series.
02:52And since he's been in Philadelphia, they've come close.
02:56They're the almost guys.
02:58Well, Dombrowski's got to take a look at this roster.
03:00It's older.
03:01You were supposed to be a baseball team that was going to contend
03:05against the Los Angeles Dodgers and push them for the pennant.
03:09Instead, you're pushing the Mets for the bottom of the basement
03:13in the National League East.
03:15I mean, where are you going here in Philadelphia?
03:19Dombrowski's got to look at this scenario.
03:21Again, you've got to ask yourself the question here.
03:25Where is this Phillies organization going?
03:29A Hall of Fame general manager is now on the hot seat,
03:33a guy who is respected like Dombrowski.
03:36Now you've got an old team, and you've got a scenario
03:39where you've got to ask yourself, what's next in Philadelphia?
