Transcript
00:01Hundreds gathered in the Capiton Jemena to demand the release of opposition leader and former premier, Succes Maswa, who has
00:09been in custody for almost a year.
00:12The activists were members of Le Transformateur, the country's largest opposition party.
00:18I wanted to talk about the detention of our president. He has been imprisoned and arrested arbitrarily.
00:24I call on our marshal, President Mohamed Idris Debi. If he truly wants us to move forward in our country,
00:32if he wants the development of our country, he must release our president, Succes Maswa, and free the other politicians
00:40they have just arrested.
00:44Most of those attending were young people, protesting under intense heat and carrying signs calling for the release of Maswa,
00:52one of Debi's fiercest critics.
00:54And from this balcony of hope, I would like to spare a vote for the political leaders who were arrested
01:01in total arbitrariness last weekend, and who, like President Succes Maswa, have no business being in prison.
01:09We call for their release.
01:13Last August, Maswa was sentenced to 20 years in prison by N'Djamena court. On TV, the authorities warned against the
01:21activities of a banned political movement.
01:26It should be recalled that the Supreme Court ordered the dissolution of the G-CAP on April 24.
01:33The Supreme Court ordered the dissolution of the G-CAP, but this was not respected by the G-CAP.
01:40After its dissolution, the G-CAP continued, and has continued, to call for demonstrations and gatherings.
01:54Maswa faced off against Debi in the 2024 presidential elections, winning 18.5 percent, against Debi's 61.3 percent, but
02:04claimed victory.
02:08The Supreme Court ordered the dissolution of the G-CAP.
