Uganda: opposition leader Bobi Wine says he was beaten by security forces

The prominent opposition candidate and former pop star Bobi Wine said in posts on social network X late on Saturday that he was attacked while campaigning in the north of the country.

00:00The Ugandan presidential election is a little more than a month away.
00:07The country's most prominent opposition candidate, Bobi Wein,
00:11said in a series of posts on Social Network X over the weekend
00:15that he was beaten up by security forces while campaigning in the north of the country.
00:21Wein said that he was hit in the face with a cane
00:24and that his aides and supporters were also beaten.
00:27Some people at the scene reportedly had to be hospitalized after being attacked.
00:33A military spokesperson accused a pop star-turned-politician and his followers
00:38of having formed an illegal procession and campaigning beyond the prescribed time.
00:44Police did however not comment on the incident.
00:48The upcoming election is the second time that Bobi Wein will challenge current president,
00:53Jovary Museveni, who, at 81 years old, is seeking a seventh term as leader of the country.
