00:00A little rewind to start the show so we can fast forward to what's happening on Wednesday.
00:05We're setting the stage here on Quick Pitch presented by Harbor Freight.
00:09It's got all the makings of a good drama.
00:12I'll set the scene.
00:142025 ALDS, Game 5.
00:17Tarek Skubal on the mound for a Tigers team that would eventually fall victim to the Mariners
00:21after a long 15 innings of baseball.
00:24Standing strong through it all, the loyal Ems fans.
00:28And among them, Seattle-area native and Mariners fan J.R. Ritchie.
00:32Six months later, and roughly 2,500 miles away, Tarek Skubal and J.R. Ritchie find themselves
00:39in the same ballpark again, still rooting against each other.
00:44But this time, both are starting in this game.
00:48It's got everything.
00:49Revenge, triumph, tragedy.
00:52Oh, how will the plot thicken on Wednesday?
00:55Oh, Matt Olsen hit his first walk-off homer as a member of the Braves on Wednesday.
01:00And it must have been nice for the 32-year-old Olsen, who was born in Atlanta and grew up
01:05a Braves fan.
01:06He's just the second Atlanta-born player to have a walk-off homer for the Braves since they moved to
01:12Atlanta.
01:12The other was Jeff Francoeur, who was in the booth for the Braves on Wednesday.
01:16Now we go from the Braves' current home in Atlanta to their former home in Milwaukee.
01:22Well, we shouldn't be ignoring the start.
01:24Eldemar Vargas has had this season.
01:27He's hit safely in each of his first 22 games to begin the year.
01:31That's tied with Hall of Famer Joe Torre for the third longest streak to begin a season since 1961.
01:37Now let's head down to Arlington for the Yankees and Rangers.
01:41Rodgers took game one from the Marlins on a Kyle Tucker walk-off single,
01:45but that pales in comparison to the dramatic walk-off replay review from the series finale.
01:51We'll show you the wild play next.
01:53Is it about Sandy's in Los Angeles?
01:56New schools, different ballparks.
01:57It's been less summer nights and more long nights for Sandy Alcantara when he steps foot in Dodgers Stadium.
02:03Tell me about it, stud.
02:04Is it the culture shock, the Hollywood pressure?
02:07In five career starts, Sandy has a near 15 ERA.
02:11That's not a number you can grease over.
02:13With Alcantara finding success in the early season against other opponents,
02:17this version of the 2022 Cy Young winner is the one that Miami wants.
02:22On Wednesday, can Alcantara find a way to flip the script with a different type of ending this time around
02:27in L.A.?
02:28Liam Hicks is tearing the cover off the ball to begin the season.
02:32He had his seventh homer of the season on Wednesday in just his 29th game.
02:36Hicks had just six in 119 games last year.
02:40The Marlins' backstop has 28 RBI this season, and that's a record for any catcher before the 5th of May.
02:46Let's head down the PCH to San Diego for the Cubs and Padres.
02:50Anniversary of one of the greatest games ever thrown.
02:53Next, we'll relive Roger Clemens' 20-strikeout game and explain how it almost never happened.
02:59So Toronto takes the rubber game over Boston.
03:02And speaking of the Red Sox and Blue Jays,
03:04the great Roger Clemens won five Cy Young awards combined between his time on those two clubs.
03:09Now, I bring up Clemens because Wednesday is the 40th anniversary of Clemens' first 20-strikeout game,
03:15one of the rarest accomplishments on a baseball diamond.
03:17Here now is Roger Clemens looking back at his historic performance at Fenway Park,
03:23one that was so close to never even happening.
03:27Wednesday's Cardinals and Pirates game was anything but pointless.
03:32Next, we'll tell you why Don Kelly and Laz Diaz were playing the blame game late in this one.
03:39Now, let's head out to Cincinnati for the same game parlay spotlight presented by Vandal.
03:45Next on QP, Colson Montgomery's walk-off continues what has been an amazing first month of the season,
03:51but it's even more amazing when you consider where Montgomery was a year ago around this time.
03:57We'll explain next.
03:59A year ago on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025,
04:02Colson Montgomery was sent down to the Arizona Complex League to rework his swing
04:06after he started last year in a crippling slump.
04:09Two weeks later, he was back mashing again at AAA Charlotte.
04:13Montgomery made his MLB debut on Independence Day
04:16and clobbered 21 home runs in his rookie season.
04:20On Wednesday, nearly a full year to the day of his demotion,
04:24Montgomery recorded his first career walk-off hit in the 10th inning against the Angels.
04:29What a difference a year makes.
04:32In Minnesota, Julio Rodriguez showed us the absolute best way to fix your sweet tooth.
04:38Now, apparently, this is a common thing back in Seattle that fans have caught on to.
04:42Trading autographs for treats.
04:45And some fans brought the bartering on the road.
04:48Hey, teach the kids young how to work for what they want, right?
04:52Actually, you know what?
04:53I should start using this tactic in here.
04:56Hey, guys, how about this trade-off?
04:58All in the show right now and let everyone go home in exchange for a bag of candy.
05:06All right.
05:08Good night, everyone.
