00:01Australian Transport Safety Bureau have confirmed the two people who died in yesterday's plane crash at Parafoot Airport were an
00:10instructor and a student looking at flight data and also hearing from witnesses it appears that the Diamond DA42 twin
00:20aircraft which was owned by Flight Training Adelaide ran into some sort of trouble shortly after takeoff.
00:26The plane turned left lost altitude before crashing into the hangar behind me. Exactly what has caused that is not
00:36yet been determined. The ATSB are now here at Parafoot Airport trying to piece together exactly what happened. They said
00:46that they've got plenty of evidence to look over to determine what has happened.
00:52I spoke with the Chief Commissioner of the ATSB. He said that they have some idea of what the plane
01:01was doing prior to the crash. He said it would take about three or four days before the investigation is
01:08complete.
01:09We have an idea of what that aircraft had been doing throughout the day and had been doing some circuit
01:14training here at Parafield. Exactly what was the nature of the flight in question in the takeoff and was it
01:21part of a training, a structured training I guess operation.
01:26We're yet to find that out and that will potentially give us some ideas of what may have gone wrong
01:31but look there's a lot of evidence for us to go through before we can get any answers as to
01:35potentially what contributed to yesterday's catastrophic outcome.
01:39The crash caused a large fire inside the hangar that was intensified by fuel being stored inside the hangar. Three
01:47other aircraft inside the hangar have also been damaged. A number of people were taken to hospital. One person with
01:55life-threatening injuries. Two other people were taken to hospital in a serious condition.
02:01Others were treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation. It took 57 firefighters to extinguish the blaze in
02:10about 30 minutes. The airport yesterday was closed for the afternoon. There has been some activity here at the airport
02:19so it does appear that it is now open.
