00:00Two light planes fell to the ground after colliding in uncontrolled airspace around
00:07midday at Bulembla Park near Oakdale.
00:10The three occupants of both aircrafts died on impact.
00:14The debris was scattered across bushland at two separate crash sites.
00:18Police say two people were in a plane returning from Cessnock to Shell Harbour Airport when
00:23the crash occurred.
00:24The impact caused its wreckage to burn.
00:27The second plane took off from the Oaks airfield.
00:30Its debris has been located about one kilometre away.
00:33There was a large emergency services response with ten ambulances attending the scene.
00:38Emergency services say witnesses saw debris coming from the sky before rushing to the
00:42crash site to help.
00:43I'll take my hat off to those people that have actually run into harm's way to assist
00:47those people.
00:48Unfortunately upon reaching that scene they would have very quickly established there's
00:52probably not much that could have been done to save the people on board.
00:54The paramedics were saying that it was a very confronting scene with patients that
01:00they would have liked to assist but unfortunately there was nothing that they could have done.
01:04Police say they're still trying to find out the ages and genders of the deceased.
01:09At this stage the cause of the crash is unknown.
01:11Officers will guard the sites overnight until a team from the Australian Transport Safety
01:16Bureau arrives from Canberra tomorrow.
