00:01...that the Northern Territory Police Force has received formal advice from the Director
00:07of Public Prosecutions regarding the investigation into the death of Koemanjo White.
00:13As a result of that advice, the criminal investigation process has now concluded.
00:19Every effort was made to ensure the investigation was appropriately resourced and conducted in
00:24a thorough and fair manner.
00:26As part of the investigation, the Northern Territory Police Force also engaged an independent
00:31expert to conduct a use of force review.
00:35A brief of evidence was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for their opinion.
00:41Following consideration of all available evidence, including the independent expert report, the
00:47DPP formed the view that there was no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.
00:52I acknowledge immediately that this outcome will cause significant distress, pain and anger
01:00for Koemanjo White's family, for many Aboriginal people across Central Australia and the Territory,
01:07and for members of the broader community.
01:09While the decision not to proceed with charges was made based on the evidence and applicable
01:15legal thresholds, we recognise this outcome may be difficult for Koemanjo White's family.
01:22A man lost his life.
01:25That fact remains at the centre of this matter.
01:28And it must never be lost in legal or procedural discussions.
01:33On behalf of the Northern Territory Police Force, I again extend our sincere condolences to the
01:39family and loved ones of Koemanjo White.
01:41feeling the best as well as possible.
01:42And I will be working on that, so that with the law of the day, I am part of the
01:43law of the santé,
