00:00Point Fortin Borrow Day will take off on Saturday, May 2nd.
00:04Assistant Commissioner of Police South Central and Gold Commander Anthony Remy
00:08calls the security plan a coordinated multi-agency approach involving internal and external stakeholders.
00:16This year's operational plan includes increased police visibility,
00:23strategic deployments across key event locations,
00:27traffic management measures and the integration of intelligence-led policing
00:34to proactively address any potential threats or disruptions.
00:41The TDPS says specialized units will provide support to boost response capability,
00:46but it is making a call to the public saying safety is a shared responsibility.
00:51Simple actions such as obeying traffic regulations, avoiding excessive alcohol consumption
01:00and cooperating with officers on duty can significantly contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
01:11Acting Superintendent of Police Joel Forbes says stakeholder engagement was at the heart of the operational plan for Borrow Day.
01:19He states that Defense Force personnel will also be part of the security apparatus on the day.
01:24We have also looked at our internal stakeholders, our external stakeholders, that is, cultural stakeholders,
01:31such as the band leaders, party promoters, and we have all engaged them through a series of meetings
01:38commencing quite early in the preparation of this event.
01:41And we have adopted an approach of enforcement by consent,
01:47whereby we brought these persons on board, have their standpoint incorporated in our planning and operations.
01:53A major part is the traffic plan, which is set to take effect at 2 a.m. with the wrecking
01:59in place.
02:00Because there's a large volume of persons or crowds, I anticipate approximately 13,000 persons at peak,
02:08that will be on the streets of Point 14 at various locations enjoying themselves and having a good time.
02:14So what we would have to do is taking the considerations, access points to those places in case of any
02:21emergency.
02:22So traffic restrictions have been put in place to facilitate the ease of evacuation of persons just in case of
02:29any eventuality.
02:30Vehicle and parking restrictions apply to several roads and streets,
02:34including along the Guapo-Cap-Deville Main Road and Point 14 Main Road.
02:39So we have had the taxi stand, the San Fernando taxi stand,
02:44move to the Labour on the eastern side of the Point 14 Main Road,
02:47approximately 500 metres north of Fisco Roundabout.
02:51The Cedras Airing Taxi Stands will also be moved to the car park of the Point 14 Catholic Church.
02:58No glass bottles are allowed in and around areas of the activities,
03:02and patrons will be given an opportunity to transfer to plastics,
03:06failing which the law will be applied.
