Expect to see more police and soldiers on the streets, engaging business people and interacting with members of the public.

It comes with the launch of the Joint Task Force 1 Operation, which is being rolled out in at least five policing divisions, including in Port of Spain.

Alicia Boucher has the details.

00:00Boots on the ground in the capital city, as police and the regiment interacted with the
00:08public and businesses on Wednesday afternoon, another strategy by law enforcement in the
00:13fight against crime, as deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations Junior Benjamin
00:19explains.
00:20We are more or less launching what is known as the Joint Task Force One operations.
00:29This is a special operation where we are seeking to increase the presence of both the police
00:36officers and the defence force so that persons could feel free in not just the capital but
00:44in at least five divisions.
00:45We have looked at the Western Division, the Port of Spain Division, Eastern Division,
00:50Central and Southern Division.
00:52He tells us the initiative was rolled out simultaneously.
00:56The DCP believes the increased police presence will provide a measure of comfort to the public
01:01and liaising with the business community is to gauge the challenges in order to address
01:06them.
01:07According to him, last knee was one of the concerns raised by business people during
01:11the visit and they welcomed the increased police presence.
01:14He states that triggering an alarm and getting faster police response would be one of the
01:20benefits.
01:21We are looking at that.
01:22We are also looking at the different areas where persons might seek to escape and therefore
01:27we are going to be clogging those areas as well.
01:29With a commitment to ensuring law and order, DCP Benjamin says there is also a focus on
01:34quality service.
01:36I think that the real challenge is not so much the reduction of crime but the fear of
01:41crime and we need to reduce the fear of crime by really starting to treat the public with
01:46that level of respect.
01:49He tells us more trust in the police will lead to more information towards intelligence
01:53driven policing.
01:55Major Steve Benny says the Defence Force is committed to supporting the TTPS.
02:00Our joint approach has worked in the past with some obvious teething it should be able
02:07to resolve some of the problems that we have.
02:09And according to MP Keith Scotland, operation by operation, the country will be brought
02:15back to where it has to be.
02:17We have a plan and we will continue to execute that plan and that plan should act at least
02:23in part as a deterrent.
02:25I don't want to speak too much about the plan but we have a plan.
