00:03how we doing everybody tyler ward aka wardy here to many of you and in our latest straight out of
00:08flushing new york mets related podcast here for the new york post sports youtube channel
00:12we have a lot to break down and we're going to be pretty brutal and honest and unhinged about this
00:17won't be as bad as how i typically am on my platform but i'm going to be completely
00:21straightforward and honest with you mets fans when i tell you that this is officially rock
00:25bottom now on the season 10 games below 500 just like where you were two years ago with
00:31carlos mendoza's first year as met skipper now at a record of 9 and 19 before april's even wrapped up
00:37it feels like your season's now essentially over before it even began and carlos mendoza who has
00:42been a common denominator in the mets lack of success going back to june 12th of last year when
00:47kodai singa went down an injury not only have the mets had the top three worst losses in total
00:52baseball since then meaning that they've had more losses than every other team but essentially
00:56themselves and a couple others if not the most over that time but this is a club that ran by
01:00carlos mendoza has not gone anything in unison nothing has been of consistency and when we look
01:07at that 2024 season for the new york mets and we see how they were able to dig themselves out
01:11of that
01:11prominent 10 game below 500 role the commonality was a sense of identity a sense of leadership and a lot
01:17of it had to do with the club itself and not so much with the mets managerial position
01:21carlos mendoza after helping lead the new york mets to the nlcs in which they faltered in six games to
01:27the dodgers that year naturally got a comfortable leash for 2025 in which from mid-june outward not
01:32only was mendy dealt a bad hand because of roster construction but the lack of consistencies and
01:37inconsistencies that were continuing to happen there with the rotation were ultimately his demise and a
01:43lack of mets clutchness with their offense is why they went over 70 on the air entering the ninth
01:47inning with one run or more that they were trailing now we enter 2026 we're essentially a month into
01:54the season i myself with my co-host the amazing dexter henry here on the new york post sports
01:58youtube channel have heavily advocated for carlos mendoza met skipper to be fired it's not a personal
02:04vendetta or ill well at all against mendy i i wish nothing but the best for him and his family
02:08but the fact
02:09the matter is this is a resultory in the business and the mets are now 9 and 19 on the
02:13season the
02:13worst team essentially in all major league baseball right now they were swept at home against out of
02:19all teams the colorado rockies okay this is a mets team that only had one run and the total what
02:26was
02:26it 18 or so innings that they played in this doubleheader they're 3 and 10 over the past 13
02:31doubleheaders that they have played if we go back the past number of years really since 2023 where they
02:35had some better success and now this new york mets team is in a position where not only does it
02:40feel
02:40like their season is already over before it began but there's still a complete lack of accountability
02:44being held and you're seeing everyone at complete disbelief you have mets president david stern
02:50speaking to media not even more than three days ago at the time of us recording this video out for
02:55you
02:55guys right now and stern's reaffirms his confidence level and the team defense and how the mets collectively
03:01are going to get out of their heading woes etc and you have this mets offense still drags their feet
03:05so incompetently that over their past 17 games in which they've won 2 and 15 over this threat over
03:10this stretch the mets have given up just under 90 total runs to scoring just 40 okay the mets have
03:17been getting absolutely pummeled consistently day in and day out and as the narrative and story has
03:23went for a number of years as a fan and as someone who's covered this team like many other fan
03:27bases that
03:28go through it when you have the hitting you don't have the pitching and when you have the pitching you
03:31don't have the hitting it snip snap snip snap it's one or the other it's not when you need it
03:36most and
03:36for the new york mets nothing is working nothing is clicking and the fact that we now see after the
03:43mets get swept by the rockies you drop game one four to three you drop game two game one the
03:49double
03:49header that is three to one and you drop game three three to nothing you make jose quintana have
03:54his sharpest start of the year best start that he's really had since going back to being in new york
03:59met a couple years ago every single start of the mets play looks like they're the best thing
04:03since cyon or obviously sandy koufax or randy johnson or whatever the case may be and we're
04:08just supposed to be content with this as a fan base and think this is okay no enough is enough
04:13i'm sick and tired i'm fed up of this nonsense i'm not going to get to the point of expletives
04:18because that's what my platform is for here not for here but i need to be brutal and trend and
04:22transparent and honest here as a talking head as a fan now as an on-field reporter here with the
04:27post as well something has to give and this is why we have been advocating for it is carlos mendoza
04:33at fault for literally everything no but he's at fault for some of this and when the mets clean
04:38house and on entire coaching staff by him during the season you knew he was only gonna have a leash
04:42so long and yet the mets have still extended this leash much longer than what they should have in my
04:47honest opinion david stearns is still sitting on his hands at the time i was talking right now
04:51and if carlos mendoza is not parted with during the mets off day this monday and he is managing
04:57on tuesday for that opening series against the nationals is continued incompetence and malpractice
05:02by david stearns and by this entire entire front office there's no other way to look at it okay
05:07carlos mendoza is not a fault for everything but nothing about him has been a needle mover as a
05:12manager because at the bare minimum what a manager's role and value should be to an organization
05:18is to be a hurrah guy is to be a guy that can help bring the club together that can
05:22help get
05:23them more focused more locked in more in unison even if that manager maybe isn't best with his
05:27in-game decision making even if that manager maybe isn't the most brilliant when it comes to building
05:31labs one the front office helps with that but two it's also adding in fact that the point here is
05:38you
05:38need to have a feel for your team and a sense of helping build an identity a a sense of
05:43culture and
05:44nothing about carlos mendoza has screamed that everything about carlos mendoza has been
05:49what's felt like a timid first-time manager that has been not where the mets have needed him to be
05:55with his lack of proper in-game decision making and while mendy has most certainly been dealt a bad
06:01hand on a number of nights because of david stearns how this business works in case you guys don't know
06:06unless you're gonna go steinbrunner senior like he did back in his heyday unlike his son because he's
06:11he pales in comparison as someone who will fire and hire new people on the whim whatever is deemed
06:16necessary because the expectation is nothing short of championship success continued unless steve cohen
06:22just has that belief out of out of the blue now as owner he's not gonna cut the cord on
06:27his golden
06:27boy and david stearns who he spent years trying to hire as another homegrown new york native who is a
06:33dire her mets fan growing up that cord will not be immediately cut mid-season so what cord needs to
06:38be cut the failure of a decision that david stearns made which was initially hiring carlos
06:42mendoza in the first place and again this is not a personal slight on mendoza or his family in the
06:47slightest this is the fact of the matter it is a results-oriented business when you have this
06:51payroll when you have this expectation and you fail to meet these in all facets it's not about oh
06:56is it justified or not to part ways with the manager as much as it is you need to because
07:01you
07:01need something to not only save face as david stearns but you also need to do something to try to
07:05right this ship while you'll still have time for the new york mats they were 11 games below 500 in
07:10the month of may in 2024 and still managed to make postseason play after having a miraculous run
07:15they can still go ahead and do that being 10 games below 500 but it starts by holding someone
07:19accountable and it can't just be these these side these little side moves that they decide to make
07:24when it comes to obviously their roster build because we're going to get into the moves that the
07:29mets have made that have changed the roster ready since we started recording this but those are far
07:34from needle movers so in order to make systemic change you need to really start the top if you're
07:39not going to go all the way to the tippy top which is obviously ownership president and then down you
07:43need to at least start with manager okay and the difference here what we're seeing happening with
07:48the new york mets and say the boston red socks who just completely clean house and alex cora and
07:52everyone else in company outside of the fact that they still won that game until cora got fired after
07:57the fact 17 to 1 is that john henry has been a notoriously stubborn owner for boston red sox and
08:03for their fan base and they all red sox fans will tell you this henry loves to pocket he doesn't
08:08love
08:08to invest in the club the way that he should and he falls more in the category like the yankees
08:12of
08:12well we're the big bad boston red sox you should want to be a red sock we shouldn't have to
08:16give you
08:16a crazy pitch kind of thing and that has been to the red sox detriment and because of that they've
08:21struggled with their proper roster build the past half decade and alex cora a world series manager
08:27with the houston astros cheating scandal and all because we have to count that it absolutely
08:31happened what carlos beltron as a player who now is obviously in the mets front office
08:35and you also have what's happened over the past five years cora was far from perfect in boston
08:40but there's a reason why he is renowned and deemed by many as one of the best game managers today
08:46and the fact that the red sox still cut the cord and have the cojones to do so for their
08:52own selfish
08:52decision making should tell you all you need to know managers can be parted with in the month
08:57month of april we can't use this excuse that it won't happen that it's it's you know an anomaly
09:02this is going to be more and more of a reoccurring thing and when we look at joe girardi being
09:06kicked
09:06to the curb by the philadelphia phillies in 2022 by dembrowski that wasn't just because joe girardi
09:12was at fault for everything but a change of voice was desperately needed in that clubhouse for that
09:16core group that had all the talent in the world to go on a run that year and what the
09:20phillies do
09:20after getting kicked constantly by the new york mets in the first half that year
09:24leading to joe girardi being fired rob thompson steps up from the bench roll and we see him help
09:29lead the phillies to get all the way to the world series once he faltered that year to the astros
09:33but the point is that was a team that was a no man's land and dug themselves out of it
09:37because
09:37it changed in direction and a change of voice and a change in leadership for the new york mets it
09:42goes
09:42without saying it is imperative that they go ahead and make a change now while their season is still
09:47somewhat some way hanging in the bounce before it is completely ran off before the final nail is put
09:54in this coffin that you call the 2026 sorry new york mets you still have an opportunity to write
10:00this shit before it's too late if we're not already there so for david sterns like i've asked like my
10:06amazing co-host dexter henry has continued to ask i will ask you once more where is the bar is
10:12the bar
10:1215 games bull 500 to make a drastic coaching change is a 20 games bull 500 is there not a
10:17bar at all
10:18and regardless as to what the mets do or don't do we're just not changing anything because we're
10:21going to learn nothing from our mistakes from last year with city on our hands whatever the case may
10:25be the pressure needs to be on for david sterns now and i don't know and i said this in
10:29my post game
10:30show and i'll say here i don't know if david literally needs his seat to be lit on fire with
10:34gasoline and to sit on it for 60 to 90 seconds to actually realize how much of a hot seat
10:40pressure
10:40cooker situation this is but something that has to give here okay and if he wants to focus on
10:46saving face and saving face on what can still be a had season somewhat it starts by making a change
10:52of the managerial position and then once you make that change of the managerial position you either
10:56go in house with one of carl speltron andy green or kai correa and most would not favor the latter
11:01just because it's hard to look at kai correa as someone who could be a needle mover for this team
11:04as manager right now not to say that he can't there's just levels of skepticism given his lack of
11:09experience and also lack of tenure in this organization versus andy green and to a higher
11:14degree carl speltron but externally again say what you will about his lack of success past number of
11:21years but alex correa is one of the most polished managers in the game today it would be foolish
11:28downright foolish and asinine if i'm being honest if david sterns did not look at the core situation and
11:34do everything in his power to try to bring him in that is a manager that's a needle mover that
11:38is a
11:38manager that could change the voice direction and club identity in one single season he is such a
11:44gamer he's such a baseball savant he's unbelievably knowledgeable he does homework better than most
11:49red sox fans are tapped in that know that team on the back of their hand will tell you that
11:53it doesn't mean that he's perfect because he we know he has his faults no doubt but alex cora might
11:59be the closest and best thing for the new york mets to get on the right track this year while
12:03they
12:03still can and you know who i guarantee will heavily advocate for him the man who the mets officially
12:07hired as their special advisor to the pobo and mr jd martinez who won a world series with cora as
12:14manager back in 2018 and i can also tell you that carlos beltron if he had any input or say
12:19i'm sure
12:19would go to bat for alex cora not just because of their you know fellow connection as puerto ricans
12:24but also because again alex was there on the bench for the astros while carlos beltron was at the final
12:30go of his tenure as an mob player when he rolled series with those same astros now did that happen
12:37after alex i think that happened while alex was still there under aj hench if i'm wrong you can
12:41let me know in the comments down below wouldn't be the first time but the point i'm trying to make
12:44here is there's a golden opportunity and a rare opportunity for the mets to make a drastic
12:49managerial change in season while also doing something of drastic significance too of bringing
12:54in someone that has pedigree championship experience and knows how to handle a big market
12:58which he has handled the past number of years in boston now to go on from the rant and the
13:03tangent
13:03that is the mets continued incompetence and why they need to make a change right manager let's talk
13:08briefly about the changes they have began doing that is first as a surprise nobody dfaing tommy fam
13:13after tommy fam went 0 for 13 or so as a new york met for tommy it comes down to
13:17the simple fact that
13:18a he's 38 and b he never had a spring training so tommy not having the proper ramp up that
13:23he needed
13:23to kind of get locked in and then being essentially sent to the mets in la to be their savior
13:27over a week and
13:33this year's in the gutter um just didn't work out it's unfortunate i like tommy a lot of people don't
13:39like him but i've always have been a tommy fam fan i mean i'm sure that means jock pearson doesn't
13:43love me up the moment that's okay comes with the territory tommy fam wish him well with whatever his
13:48future endeavors are going to be should they now not be in flushing queens and as the corresponding
13:52move the mets right away according to wolf salmon and others have reported that the mets have
13:57officially signed austin slayer to replace him austin slayer is the fourth outfielder that the
14:03mets replaced fam with righty bat that has just under 800 career ops against lefties so
14:09essentially they're trying to bring in a somewhat younger austin slater that has you know a little
14:14bit more polishing that could benefit them now tommy fam had a better track record going back to last
14:18season it has a better eye at the plate but you know instead of considering calling up an exciting
14:24prospect like nick borobito who's been off to a great start in syracuse or instead of you know rushing
14:28up a prospect that has oodles amount of potential but maybe just isn't ready yet and aj ewing or
14:35considering you know someone who's going to swing and miss a lot who i'm sure will not be a needle
14:39mover now but also can't really be much worse than austin slater or ryan clifford the mets are going
14:46with ryan slater so austin slater i apologize if i said ryan that's not what i meant to austin slater
14:52uh the outfielders who we were reiterating here but that's all you really need to know mets fans
14:57they've lost they've lost 15 of their past 17 games they've been outscored i believe not a
15:02mathematician i did the math quickly while looking at the schedule and the wins and losses i believe
15:05they've been outscored 87 to 40 or so in their past 17 game stretch of only winning two games during
15:11that tenure you can quote me down the comments down below and when it comes to the mets lack of
15:17fundamental performance the lack of proper base running lack of proper defense and everything in
15:23between that was continued and their start in their games here where kodai sing of course couldn't go
15:26deep for you he's another guy that should be axed there's a reason why mark vientos brett baity
15:31ronnie mauricio david pearson kodai singa were all heavily involved in trade rumors this past year
15:35and it's honestly a shame and malpractice that there weren't more moves done then because it's not
15:40benefiting this club at all nonetheless all we can really look at this point is more change need more
15:45change until there's more change everything's going to hit deaf ears for mets fans we don't
15:50care what quotes you have for us post game impressor we don't care what you're going to
15:54come out and tweet mr steve cohen while we may love and appreciate your efforts here what we don't
15:59appreciate is the lack of winning and the continued lack of winning results oriented business it's about
16:03time the mets started to be cognizant and acted as if time is of the essence because it most certainly
16:10is everybody thank you so much for watching let us know all your thoughts in the comments down
16:14well your biggest takeaway the mets continued faltering being swept by the colorado rockies
16:20how do you feel about the mets needing to make a change of the managerial position who would you
16:23like to see in that position should have come to fruition and let us know all your thoughts your
16:27frustrations and everything else in between in the comments down below and of course in the comments
