00:05It was Ty Simpson 13 overall to the Rams.
00:08Now, I always preface by saying this.
00:11The smartest people in the room probably are the NFL teams that are scouting these people,
00:15these players.
00:15But I always also say, Joe, if you just let your fan base pick the first round pick for
00:22your team, they probably will out draft your GM nine out of 10 times because they don't
00:26overthink the situation.
00:27The reason I bring this up, Joe, is how many times in the past have we seen it?
00:31And let's just go back a year or two.
00:32Do you remember when the Atlanta Falcons drafted Michael Penix and everybody goes, that's the
00:36stupidest thing we've ever seen in our lives?
00:38And it turned out correct and rightfully so.
00:40We're getting those same opinions last night, Joe.
00:42Give me the thought process for you when you saw Ty Simpson was going to the Rams last night.
00:50It's not what you would expect for the level of experience coming from those two guys.
00:57In this picture, Donnie, you know, the Atlanta Falcons doing it, you get it because, you
01:03know, Raheem Morris and that, what did they, they have no idea what they're doing.
01:08So it makes total sense that they would botch it and reach and go for that and everything
01:12else.
01:12But we're talking about Sneed and McVeigh who have trophies, guys.
01:16They have Lombardi trophies, they have rings and for them to do this and then give this
01:22press conference afterwards, which, I mean, apparently, Donnie, they look like they were
01:27made to eat glass.
01:28Like, neither guy was excited about this at all.
01:32We're talking about the 13th best player in the draft and they went with a quarterback that
01:38may replace Stafford in three or four years.
01:42Let's stay on this topic, but let's hear from them at that press conference from last
01:45night.
01:46I think it's been a process, you know, that started, started in the off season, per se,
01:52especially when Sean, the coaching staff got involved.
01:55And then that process goes all the way up until, even into, you know, the latter parts
02:00of last week.
02:01And then that, at that point in time, like I've mentioned in here, the, the ship's got
02:05the face, like, get me out of here, Joe.

02:10What made you all see, what did you see in time that made you convinced that this was a
02:15guy that you guys wanted to drive and build towards the future?
02:18Did you guys even talk to Coach DeBoer at all to kind of get to know more about time?
02:22I think that, I think that at the end of the day, probably processing football, someone
02:27who can execute a passing offense has mobility.
02:32That's probably the macro, there's a lot more variables that go into it, but that's

02:40I think it's a good process.
02:41I like Steve as a GM.
02:42And again, I love the head coach and Sean McVay, but understand this too, Joe.
02:46We talked about the open the show, like Matthew Stafford is like battling his body saying,
02:50I want the best possible situation to come back to.
02:53Give me a weapon, give me a defensive pass rusher, let's go, and they didn't do that.
02:56But also, counterpoint, Joe.
02:58Don't you remember when the Rams won the Super Bowl?
03:00One of the biggest questions was, McVay might just head to the booth now as he's going to
03:04be done with coaching.
03:05Do you think this makes McVay happy?
03:07Because let's go, let's just say a year in advance.

03:16This wasn't a great move for the franchise on a lot of levels, Joe.

03:35Because all he ended up talking, first words out of his mouth were, let me be 100% clear,
03:40this is Max Stafford's team, who's still in a contract negotiation.
03:44But McVay is not buying this at all in any way.
03:49They made it seem like they had 23 other picks coming up, Donnie.
03:54That's kind of what this felt like.
03:55Like, yeah, don't worry, we've got five more coming in the next, you know, 20 picks or so.
04:00You had the 13th round pick, the 13th pick in this draft, and you chose a guy that can't
04:07help you win immediately is beyond me.
