01:00Humanity is the connecting link, receptive to that which lies above, sometimes known as the Kingdom of God,
01:08and the distributor of that energy to the lower kingdoms of the animals, plants and mineral worlds.
01:17At no other time of the year is humanity's role in this linking, distributing capacity more important than at the
01:24full moon of May, known as WESAC.
01:29WESAC is an annual day of meditation and prayer, a time for spiritual people of all faiths and traditions
01:36to link together in mind and heart, and through the imagination, to participate in an event of supreme spiritual contact.
01:48WESAC takes place when the sun is in the sign of Taurus, the sign of illumination and vision, a sign
01:56closely connected with the Buddha.
01:59Every year, down the ages, Buddhists have celebrated WESAC during the May 4 moon.
02:15They continue to gather in their millions for meditation, ritual and ceremony
02:21to honour three of the most significant events in the life of the Buddha, the Lord of Light, the messenger
02:28from the East.
02:37Siddhartha Gautama, the future Buddha, was born during the May 4 moon, over 500 years before the birth of Christ.
02:47He also attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree on the May 4 moon,
02:53and at the age of 80, he died during the period of the May 4 moon.
02:59It is these events that are honoured by the Buddhist community.
03:05But WESAC is also increasingly coming to be known as the Festival of the Living Buddha,
03:11who returns each year to humanity at great sacrifice, bringing a blessing and radiating energies of enlightenment.
03:21Joining with the Christ and the saints of all traditions, the Buddha makes a great approach to humanity.
03:30Through prayer and meditation, people of goodwill can use the power of the creative imagination to take part in this
03:38event,
03:39and to aid in the distribution of the Buddha's blessing.
03:49The WESAC Festival is not an abstract exercise, unconnected with world affairs.
03:55In fact, the energies released by the Buddha at WESAC aid the shift in consciousness that is occurring,
04:04helping to stabilise us in spiritual being, disrupting old and limiting thought forms,
04:11and building in new and expansive ones.
04:14The more people who participate in this event with focus and concentration,
04:21the greater will be the release of the lighted energies of the Buddha.
04:46There is an ancient legend which states that, at the time leading up to the WESAC full moon,
04:53people from surrounding regions make their way to a little valley in Tibet,
04:59on the further side of the Himalayas.
05:02They travel as pilgrims of light.
05:05These pilgrims are said to be joined by a group of those great beings
05:10who are the custodians on earth of God's plan for our planet and for humanity.
05:17The Christ, the avatars of all the ages, the saints and rishis, acknowledged by all faiths.
05:26These lords of compassion range themselves in the north-eastern end of the valley.
05:32As the time of the full moon approaches, a stillness settles down upon the crowd.
05:40The group masters and their disciples take up symbolic positions on the floor of the valley,
05:47and undertake ceremonial movements done to the sound of chanted words and esoteric mentrums.
05:56The moments prior to the full moon are pervaded by a great silence,
06:02brimming with vitality and significance.
06:07The expectancy in the crowd becomes great and the tension is real.
06:13A potent vibration is felt by the entire body of people.
06:19It has the effect of awakening the souls of those present,
06:23fusing and blending the group into one united whole,
06:28and lifting all into a great act of spiritual demand and readiness.
06:33The world's aspiration for light is focused on this group of people gathered in the valley in Tibet.
06:51Looking over and beyond towards the north-east, and through the long narrow portion of the valley,
06:58far in the distance a point of brilliant light is seen.
07:03Gradually the point of light becomes a blazing sun, approaching ever nearer,
07:09and the figure of the Buddha is seen seated cross-legged at its centre.
07:14At the exact moment of the full moon, the sun hovers over a large rock,
07:20which serves as an altar, and the tremendous spiritual radiance of the Lord Buddha is seen,
07:26his hand extended in blessing.
07:32The Buddha and the world teacher, the Christ, come together as the closest of brothers
07:37to release the blessing into the world.
07:41The world teacher turns to face all present,
07:44as he intones a great invocative mantra used only once a year.
07:52This invocation sets up a vibration of such potency,
07:57that it reaches up from the group to God himself.
08:03It marks the supreme moment of spiritual effort throughout the entire year,
08:09and the spiritual vitalisation of humanity lasts throughout the succeeding months.
08:40Wessec provides a vital opportunity for all who seek to be of service at this time.
08:45Wessec provides a vital opportunity for all who seek to be of service at this time.
08:45The most important way to make use of this opportunity is to prepare our consciousness.
08:52Following whatever practices that are central to our spiritual life,
08:57we can make a special effort at this time to be clear in our thinking
09:01and sensitive to the higher possibilities for humanity.
09:06We should do whatever we can during the period of the full moon
09:10to stand as the detached observer, free from desire.
09:15The goal is to hold a focus of sustained inner silence,
09:20keeping in mind the needs of our fellow human beings.
09:26If possible, meet together for group meditation sometime during the 18 hours preceding the full moon,
09:33and, if possible, at the exact time of the full moon itself.
09:39Many people use the Great Invocation on this day.
09:43This is an ancient prayer of tremendous potency
09:46that aids in aligning and focusing human will to illumine consciousness.
09:53When the Great Invocation is used,
09:56it can be followed by the sounding of the sacred word, the Om.
10:18During the two days prior to the full moon,
10:21on the day of the full moon itself,
10:23and on the two succeeding days at sunrise,
10:2712 noon, 5 pm, at sunset, as well as at the exact time of the full moon.
10:36When the Invocation is used simultaneously by hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world,
10:42saying the words aloud when possible,
10:45a volume and quality of sound of real potency is created.
10:51The opportunity before us now is to channel the powerful forces available at this time
10:56in the service of the whole.
10:59As we work together with others,
11:02we can call forth the response from the Buddha
11:04and all the great lives who brood over our planet,
11:08releasing a flood of spiritual power
11:11that will lead to definite changes in human consciousness
11:15and in conditions in our needy world.
11:20The Tibetan, whose teachings are available in books by Alice Bailey,
11:25has said that no cost is too great to receive the spiritual enlightenment
11:29that is possible at the time of Wessak.
11:32Through our participation,
11:35we can help shift the balance of forces in our planet towards the light.
11:42Please join with other like-minded people around the world in this planetary service.
11:55The Great Invocation
11:57From the point of light within the mind of God,
12:03let light stream forth into human minds.
12:08Let light descend on earth.
12:17From the point of love within the heart of God,
