00:03we have something in common okay we both like edibles oh yeah i love that shit what is your
00:11favorite kind oh like you don't like strain or like brand or just like or just like yeah like
00:17are you more of a sativa girl i'm like a hybrid hybrid because sometimes i get scared okay you
00:25know talk to me about your fears no but sometimes i get like paranoid yes oh like if i take
00:29one
00:29it's like oh i'm scared what what time of day are you usually um always like always recreational
00:40like no work no work yeah so like you're at so my worst nightmare would be to like have an
00:45edible
00:46sit in this couch with you and like having to speak you know what i am the same exact way
00:53like
00:53if we both were on edibles right now no we would just we would just we wouldn't we would just
00:59uh and we would slap knee slap knee slap and we'd be too scared to like say anything because i'd
01:04be
01:04like what did i come off weird yeah wait was that weird and you'd be like no no am i
01:08being weird
01:08and i'm like am i sitting weird what's my posture like yes and you'd be like i don't know where
01:12i am
01:13yeah okay so you're recreational with friends um i have done it like twice on tour and it was so
01:23fun
01:23what okay so it went well it went really well but it was also like just an opening slot it
01:30was for
01:30tate and it was just 45 minutes at that point i was very comfortable in the set but having done
01:36it i'm
01:37like yeah i don't think i'm gonna do it again because i think it's something you know it's for me
01:42it's like giggle and chill with your friends or like yeah yeah no no i um i don't understand people
01:51that just like smoke crazy and then they go and do a show i'm the same i like to i
01:55think i thrive my
01:56most when i'm alone and i have a little edible yeah i'm not like walking around and going to
02:00meetings no couldn't do it um okay speaking of tate you opened for tate mcrae yes what was the most
02:07fun
02:07part of that tour wow i mean the whole experience was really so incredible for me and i knew it
02:16was
02:16going to be amazing before we went on first of all because she's incredible her fans are so fun and
02:22i
02:22feel like it was just the perfect match so i knew that this was going to be like one of
02:27the first
02:28stepping stones of what i was trying to do with midnight sun i mean it was right i think my
02:34album
02:35released on the last day of the tour so it was like a perfect setup because i really haven't
02:42toured that much in the u.s or like america in general um and the the most fun part i
02:49mean obviously
02:49to do the show every night which was still like a 45 minute so i got to give them like
02:55a good chunk
02:56of what i do and who i am and uh just the way it was received i just could never
03:04have guessed like
03:07how much it was gonna do for me because they really felt like
03:12maybe it was just my for you page because that's all it is just me me me
03:16you're like they were loving me alex okay i was thriving on that tour
03:23yeah but i but like i saw so many videos from it and like people engaging with it
03:28and um even though i don't have twitter i have my friend vandalize she sometimes she sends me like
03:35the hit tweets of the week and uh and people were like really really positive and i think also
03:43the story of it all i think the lore like people love an underdog and people love to root for
03:48someone
03:49um who who they feel like is like on the come up a little bit and i think because i've
03:56been doing
03:57it for such a long time it's like there is so much history to it and there is so much
04:01lore it's like
04:03this is not like an overnight thing and people could be like wow like she's worked so hard like
04:07she deserves this and i think that like adds to it and having two women that are so good at
04:13dancing
04:14like you're gonna have a good time that night oh for sure and singing both of you are like insane
04:18dancers and singers so you're like but it was so incredible because i've been opening for other
04:22people before like ed sheeran kygo um yeah love love love love love him i love him but i think
04:30that
04:30that match was like way better and i've never had it was like it was it was like a lot
04:38of people who
04:39came to see the opening which i didn't feel was the the vibe for the other people that i've opened
04:49for
04:49the girlies were out the girlies were out and they were like they came to see it so that was
04:53so much fun i know that you had written in an instagram post you kind of called out even though
04:58so many like you're saying the comments were so positive the vibes were so positive it was strange
05:03seeing people pit you and totally against each other which is so sad because it's like kind of
05:07expected which is like why do like why is that even the case um what was going on that you
05:13think
05:13was creating that dynamic what was going on i think um well first of all i've been doing this for
05:21longer i'm older and maybe some people felt like i deserve to be in the arena and i'm like well
05:30buy
05:30the ticket then that's not tate's fault you know what i mean i haven't toured for me this was an
05:37amazing opportunity um i think it's just like the nature of how people speak about girls in pop
05:45again like coming back to the fucking kia asylum like no one's being put in there except for the
05:50pop girls you know is this culture around which i sometimes think it's it's very interesting it could
05:57be fun because people are very like engaged in pop girls the girls of pop are kind of pop culture
06:06at
06:06least in my world but then i think um we are similar in the sense that you know we both
06:12dance
06:13although she's a way better dancer and i i like i do pop she does pop i think it's like
06:20and i think again it's easier to root for someone who is like an underdog you know because once you
06:28and
06:28i kind of always said this like once you start getting haters that's when you know you're like that
06:33bitch yes no it is so true it's like i remember taylor swift's line it's like they want to see
06:38you rise but they do not want to see you rain no no it's like they love to come up
06:42totally and then
06:43the minute you're there they're like what the fuck are you doing there and obviously tate is like
06:46massive she had this sold out arena tour like i'm on her tour like opening for her so she's this
06:54very
06:55successful girl and i think it's just we're both talented but i think people are like why is zara
07:01opening for tate well it's not really about talent it's about the me being put in front of a crowd
07:09where i haven't like been before so i think it's just it's it's like too easy for people to compare
07:17us even though we are we're similar but we're very different and um i don't think that was fun at
07:26all
07:26for her we haven't spoke about it much but i think as a human being you know like her being
07:33so
07:33hard working and talented and just seeing this fucking random swedish girl come on her tour and
07:41be like the fuck like you know what i mean but i did tell her that i was like i
07:45am on your tour like
07:47she is incredible and also being on that tour i personally have so much respect for
07:53the way she works and how hard she works and the fact that everyone was so lovely and i think
08:01that
08:01says a lot about the artist because i definitely do think it trickles down like if you have a good
08:07boss
08:07she's the boss she's the one employing all of these hundreds of people if you have a good um
08:14head that makes the whole experience good and it really was like down to the crew the dancers
08:21the drivers like the truck drivers were incredible and um i think it's just a classic like also a
08:29little bit of misogyny or like it can't be it can't be two girls being good you know it's so
08:35crazy have
08:36you had the ability and you don't need to name names to talk to anyone in the industry about this
08:42like
08:43problem that all of the pop girlies have of just like comparison and everyone pitting you guys
08:49against each other hmm not really because i don't really go out but um like in dms and that i
08:56think
08:57i could definitely because this is something that we're all aware of of course we exist in the universe
09:04you know we see things that everyone else is seeing on their timeline we're just people with phones at the
09:09end of the day and i think um everyone can relate to it somehow and you know who knows in
09:17the future
09:19maybe karma comes back around and i have a really great girl opening for me and everyone's like what
09:26the fuck like she's you know boo yay boo like it's just it's just crazy the way it is and
09:34i think um
09:35i just know that i i love all the girls i really do and i think i think most of
09:43the people do i think
09:45it's such it's like a cheap shot of um putting someone up by putting someone else down it's like
09:55you can actually just say wow that was incredible you don't have to put someone else down because of
10:00it something i was thinking about with your album is the girl's girl song it's funny you say that
10:07because i have something to say about that too on the remix do you want to say it now yes
10:11okay let's do
10:12it you're like and shut up i have a statement sit back relax and enjoy girls girl it's funny because
10:17i did take that song and i turned it into what happens when a girl's girl like i want to
10:23be a
10:23girl's girl but what happens when a girl's girl wants the spotlight because there's only room for one
10:28girl apparently so we all have to have this like be nice and friendly which is the reality of it
10:34all
10:34and this is at the end of the day just a song but just to like
10:39okay but i it's it's that weirdness in the industry but also like that's how i choose to
10:47to to twist it to make it a little different and fun oh i like that it's gonna be really
10:53fun because
10:53the original is it's about realizing you have feelings for your friend's boyfriend and you said
11:00that this was inspired by real events at the time what is the story it was inspired it definitely wasn't
11:06like the truth and i think um i just love the song i love i love a little story like
11:13let's get messy
11:14in the story back to the blog days yes i used to be so messy as a teenager i really
11:19i really and now
11:20mom and granny but at 16 um i just like oh girl um we were celebrating new years and yeah
11:32my one of my
11:33best friend's boyfriend he just like he was flirting with me all night and i was really interested in his
11:40friend so we were at this party and uh by the end of the night you know i don't know
11:48what it's like
11:48for you guys but in europe at 16 that's like you've been drinking for about four years at this
11:54point okay so not so well it depends in the u.s where you grow up but yeah yeah okay
12:00so i was like
12:02i was picking on my jacket everyone was already downstairs we were going somewhere else and yeah
12:08he just kind of like started kissing me and i just kissed him back because i was messy like that
12:14and i was 16 and really drunk and like i um the fucked up thing about this though was that
12:23the girl
12:24who's who who we had had the party at she filmed this and i didn't know so before i got
12:32the chance to
12:33tell my friend what happened the next day she had already got the video sent to her
12:39yeah so that that was like really messy but then but the truth is i wasn't really like
12:46in love with him or interested in him it was this weird um unforgivable mistake that happened
12:53but obviously seeing it it just she just cut me off and all my friends just cut me off and
13:00i was just
13:01like a floating piece of trash in the universe no yes a video yeah what was her reaction i don't
13:11know
13:11because she didn't speak to me for like four years like she cut me off she meant that shit and
13:17i had
13:18like clothes you know she had clothes at my place and my mom was like i can come and pick
13:23it up and
13:23she was like her mom was like no we can mail it like how far did you guys live from
13:28each other like
13:2910 minutes like mail it yeah no yeah when did you guys ever finally talk yes yes yes and now
13:36it's
13:36okay and everyone's like on good terms and uh yeah it was one of it was one of my worst
13:42mistakes in
13:43life like it truly was at 16 i just um if i could take it back i i would so
13:50so so bad but i also have
13:52to like forgive myself for it because again this is more than 10 years ago now and uh i was
14:00just
14:00really stupid and messy and also i found out that i can't drink like i just can't because i always
14:08do
14:08really like my morals and my my just sense of self like it just goes out the window and now
14:14i just stick
14:15to the edibles i was gonna say and then enter edibles that's when you were like we're gonna stick
14:18to this yes truly how has your idea of girls girl evolved over the years as you've become a woman
14:27hmm i think girls girl is um what i'm trying now when i'm like a boss i feel like i
14:35can employ women
14:36you know i can put like money in their pockets and um i can make sure to uplift and amplify
14:44like
14:44their voices or again in the studio like i want to write with other women i want to produce with
14:49other women i want to create with other women and um i i you know just take women very seriously
15:00because i think we're so amazing and capable call her daddy is brought to you by haagen-dazs daddy gang
15:07i think we all deserve a little more me time whether it's work school or whatever is bringing you down
15:14it's so important to take a second to slow down and treat yourself and lately my favorite way to do
15:19this is with some rich smooth creamy ice cream and none better than haagen-dazs you guys you have to
15:27try their cherry dark chocolate bar let me just tell you something okay picture rich cherry ice cream
15:33with some tart cherry ribbons all covered in a thick layer of dark chocolate yes it's the kind of thing
15:40you don't want to just eat but you like literally experience okay usually i'm the type to just like
15:44crush a dessert in two seconds but this oh girls i'm taking my time i'm like savor every bite haagen
15:51-dazs
15:51is just one of those things that's meant to be savored i've literally been eating haagen-dazs since i
15:56came out of the womb my entire family has always had it stocked in our fridge it'd be like movie
16:01night
16:01boom sit down get our haagen-dazs and now the cherry dark chocolate bar it's always in my hand okay
16:07it is just the perfect sweet treat that i just can't get enough of it's my go-to treat at
16:11the
16:11end of a long work day so take your sweet time that's da's available at retailers nationwide
16:18there was an interesting article about you recently that i wanted to get your opinion on this quote
16:22they said there's nothing about zara larson's public persona that shows any interest in capturing
16:27the validation or attention of straight men i love that is this an accurate statement i think the older
16:34i get which i do think comes with age a little bit i think i because i used to be
16:40heavy male centered
16:41even if i didn't want to like admit to it i think even in like having relationships or making sure
16:47that i felt like validated and loved by like a man and um it didn't have to be like people
16:54outside of my
16:55relationship but even so that was still important to really feel desired by men i think now maybe it's
17:02like you turn 25 and like your brain develop but like hitting status return like grow just growing
17:07up just literally your brain develops i think i i focus so so so little on that right now
17:14how have you like really managed to de-center men from your life can you give the girls listening
17:19like a little go-to guide oh no i only want to impress like the mean 13 year old girls
17:25you know
17:27what i mean like that's who i want to impress so real yeah they're looking at your outfit
17:32yeah exactly it's cute you're like i'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight no i think it's um i
17:39i used
17:40to crave that so much i don't know if it's like a classic you know my like my dad
17:48but like my dad like neck and i love my dad and my dad loves me but he was away
17:53a lot like
17:54you know what i mean like you're like we got to go back to the origin story it's always the
17:58dad right
17:59what's the relationship with the dad i wanted my dad's attention yes but i wanted other friends
18:03exactly but i think um now also maybe i hate to say it but like in my relationship now i
18:11think he
18:12has made me realize that um i don't need like outside validation um because it has to come from
18:22within and how do you find that within you just ew i'm saying corny things on corny things like i
18:28was
18:28gonna say you have to love yourself but it's the 13 year olds are like yeah they're like
18:35yeah yeah no and like how do you love yourself i think um you have to like have a lot
18:42of grace for
18:43yourself you have to surround yourself with people who um are like uplifting and non-judgmental no it's
18:55such a good point it's like the amount of times and everyone's timeline is going to be different but
19:00the amount of time you have to take at some point in your life to realize like you're going to
19:04keep
19:05getting a zero to nothing result when you're looking for other people's approval and you're looking
19:11for people to validate you and the minute that you are able to source that all within yourself
19:17it will always be there of course but it can't be like the source ever present no okay back to
19:23your album i love it because you write about like kind of taboo no totally topics yes how have fans
19:30reacted to some of these topics i think they're pretty chill you know i think um
19:39you know at the end of the day it's songs but it is a very relatable thing i think and
19:46um
19:47having a little crush on someone when you're in a relationship is like uh uh uh uh bad bad bad
19:55but i've had that and i think it comes down to again like just it's not even really about that
20:02other
20:02person that i was interested in and just it's just about me wanting to feel desired and wanting to
20:08feel like oh you know wow i'm so hot it wasn't even really about them because i've been reading
20:15through our text messages afterwards and i'm like you're not even funny like i'm the funny one
20:20like if we look at it with sober eyes now i'm like why am i just like you know what
20:27i mean
20:28right do you find that in your in the past because i know you're in a relationship yeah over five
20:33years
20:33which we're gonna get to but in the past have you found that within yourself where you're like
20:38still lightly looking for to feel desired the minute you're in a relationship does it
20:43does the spark go no i think i've always just um it could come from anywhere it's not really about
20:51the relationship again because like right now and has been from the star my boyfriend is
20:58fantastic like i love him and um i can't i i i can't not be honest to him because he
21:06also
21:07like he will just see right through me and uh he's so patient and he's so understanding and um
21:14i think having some sort of crush like we obviously spoke about it and uh he could tell
21:22like immediately he's like so what's going on you know what i mean like what's up with you
21:27how did you handle that you just have to talk about it it's actually not that it doesn't have
21:32to be dramatic and then you just say how you feel and he know he knows me better almost than
21:39i know
21:39myself because he also knows that we call actually saying i'm a woman but this person that craves
21:45this validation we call her the girl and sometimes the girl pops out and she wants to like roam around
21:53town but the girl is kind of gone now girl is gone because you're a woman now zara yes yes
22:01we and so
22:02your boyfriend was like he was okay like he was like i wouldn't say okay yeah i wouldn't say okay
22:09but you got through it yeah like it wasn't it wasn't like very dramatic it was just like
22:15what i'm saying that he wasn't okay he wasn't like it's fine by me baby but he was just like
22:20let's
22:21have an honest conversation because that's all you can have have you ever been cheated on
22:25yes in previous relationships um like my first relationship was just
22:31that was so weird how did you we were together for from like 14 to 18 19 and uh we
22:40were together
22:40for three months and then he told me like i'm sorry i slept with someone at a party and then
22:47our
22:47relationship was kind of just like that for the whole of my teenage teenage years very traumatic like
22:54we were both just really bad for each other but we didn't have any sort of reference point
22:59to like what love is supposed to be and that like teenage fiery like hormones everywhere
23:06crazy like you think it's like passion and really it's just trash like so bad it's so crazy at 16
23:13you're
23:13like i'm in love yeah this is the love of my life yes yes i'm gonna i'll ruin everything for
23:19this
23:19person no literally babe you're not okay in the head like i went through
23:24that same thing where you're like what was i thinking what was i thinking um we and how
23:28what initially attracted you to your boyfriend so we were friends for a really long time before
23:35it was like a friends to lovers situation it was very cute it was very cute because i've never
23:39really had that i'm a very like yeah we're fucking on the first date like let's just get
23:43it over with you know what i mean and uh i couldn't really do that with him because
23:51it it just gradually i mean i've he he's always kind of been in my friend group like my bigger
23:57friend group um and i've always been in a relationship so when i broke up with my ex
24:02um we were just like out and about with this big friend group and then we started having like
24:08parties at my place and um yeah just like the later it got the more people dropped off and like
24:16every day every week it would just be like smaller smaller circle and we would just hang out and then
24:21all of a sudden it was just like us there and we were like and he's like oh no i
24:25missed the last
24:26train i'm like you can take an uber but you know what i mean who made the first move it
24:32was so
24:34um in sync like he obviously was very interested and he made sure you know you just know yeah you
24:42just know but i've never looked at him in that way until i did like i've never i was never
24:48in the
24:48relationship looking at him thinking like he's always been beautiful but he's very friendly and
24:55he's very like respectful so i think when i got uh out of my relationship and we started hanging out
25:00it was just like one day like wait yeah like wait a minute and then he stayed over and he
25:08stayed over
25:09for like a week and we just got like closer and closer every night and it's such a cute story
25:15because
25:15really and we probably would have like gone down to business earlier so you were really waiting you're
25:21like we need to talk i'm like let's wait but really i just needed those like i need a couple
25:28seconds
25:28yeah i need a second oh my god so um it was really cute it just like made it really
25:36beautiful and then
25:38when it happened um it's just been us since that day and uh and he's my person like he's my
25:45best friend
25:46and we just have such a fun time and he's so smart and he gets along really really well with
25:53my friends
25:54my sister loves him my family like that's so important to me that my my especially my sister
26:01and like my friends get along with my man because i didn't really have that before where it felt like
26:09you fit into my world and the opposite but i think it's so so so important and now i just
26:16know like
26:17now i feel since the girl is kind of gone um i really do feel like it's just like that's
26:25my
26:25person for life like we're locked in i feel so secure and even now when i'm traveling we don't
26:31have to speak every day all the time like that shit's lame like why would you have to like i
26:38know
26:38you're there and i feel so secure and he knows i'm here and feel so secure and i think it's
26:44because
26:44we've had just always really open and honest conversations and i think before him i didn't
26:53really have that even with myself like i will tell him like no it's not that i actually feel like
26:57this
26:58and it's like but is it really like that like what is it really about and it's like let's take
27:04it from
27:05the start so and then and then we'll talk and then eventually eventually it's like well actually
27:11it's not like that that's and they like it's like you know so i think he taught me to be
27:16honest
27:16with myself which is actually the hardest part it's so hard because you have to find that person that
27:23balances you just right yeah and i feel like also you guys have gone through a lot i know you
27:28posted
27:28on tiktok calling out some of the racist comments that people were making towards your boyfriend
27:33so he's like elevated he's like he doesn't even live like in his mindset he's so grounded but also
27:42at the same time it's like he don't care about anything like that how do you handle that hate
27:49though towards someone you love online yeah i think that's worse because in a way when it's about me
27:53like i can kind of handle it but he um of course it's never fun but i think he just
28:01the way he moves
28:03through life like he's so he's a very like interesting character and he just makes me realize
28:10too that even the even how many hours a day i spend online like at the end of the day
28:17this is real
28:18and like he grounds me a lot and i think um i have these really big dreams and aspirations and
28:27goals
28:29and not that he don't have that but his dream is to like have a family he's like my purpose
28:37is to be
28:37like a dad and be the best dad i can be and to be like the best friend i can
28:43be the best partner i can
28:44be and everything else is just like cherry on top and like but his purpose is not to go look
28:51for
28:53what i'm looking for so we're very different and i think we balance each other a bit like
28:57he grounds me and like i inspire him with like goals and dreams because i'm like what the fuck do
29:03you
29:03mean like you have to like what do you mean you don't want to take over the world and he's
29:07like
29:07like no i mean this this this is it like this is life for me like he will like live
29:13on a farm
29:14you know like grow his plans he's gonna keep you super grounded yeah and you're gonna be like let's
29:19go yeah wait helicopter try charging up like yeah um who's the funny one in the relationship
29:28um it's me i was gonna say yeah i was like i will never forget when you posted your foot
29:35in a condom
29:36well your leg actually in a condom my whole leg yeah what can what happened there i don't know i
29:43feel
29:43like it wasn't that big of a deal i feel like i've seen like so many people do the same
29:47thing but
29:48they because it was like the tumblr days right and they could only fit like kind of the foot
29:53and then that day we had gone to the youth clinic with like my school as you do i don't
30:00know if you
30:00guys do that here no but i love it i feel like everyone should more sexual education with the kids
30:06and then we got a bag like i'm talking like a bag of condoms and i was like i'm not
30:11gonna use all of
30:12this because i do it unprotected no i'm kidding no but uh kidding so i i had to
30:23try it on and it reached all the way up to my knee and i was like that's incredible like
30:28that's
30:28fantastic so i had to post a picture saying like if you feel if you say it doesn't fit i
30:34don't know
30:34how big it is but it's not as big as my leg like let's just be honest dude it was
30:38up to your and it
30:39just it really was and i find that quite impressive um but yeah and it just blew up it just
30:45blew up it
30:46just was so funny too because i was like oh my god has she ever had a guy be like
30:49i can't do that
30:50because like i'm too big and you're just like yes you have actually no that's a lie okay but
30:55like a lot of my girlfriends have had that yes because i've always been like in a relationship
30:59and condom or not my mom as soon as i got in a relationship she was like i am putting
31:05you on
31:06birth control hello if you're in a relationship at 15 whatever like you do what you want to do i'm
31:12dead
31:12so that was okay so you're the funny one you're the funny one i would say so i love that
31:16i don't
31:17if yeah he would agree okay um i know the song blue moon is about him yes how did you
31:22first show
31:22that song to him we were actually in jamaica together writing it and um or i was with my
31:29writing crew and he was there so uh he was just kind of in the studio cute as we were
31:35writing it
31:35have you written other songs about him yes yeah i have it's um it's so fun honestly because i don't
31:45really write a lot about i don't know if i i don't make like a conscious decision about not
31:52writing specifically only about like romantic love but i think a lot of my songs are about
31:57other things as well you know like crush or girl's girl which is about love but like in a different
32:03perspective even midnight sun that's like a song about my my country house and i was just like i need
32:10to write a song about what it feels like on a summer's day in the countryside but the love songs
32:16um yeah he's gotten a few of those and he'll get some more i feel like obviously your album was
32:24such a
32:25success it's been such a success and now we have the deluxe album coming out what can you tell us
32:31about it i'm so excited about this i'm so excited we are too it's gonna be a fantastic fantastic i

33:20and like reworked a lot of them are really like amazing new songs it's like a new
33:28way of listening to the album and um it's really fun i was super inspired by charlie xcx how she
33:36did
33:36her album and i'm like wait that's so fun because i always think that there's so many ways even like
33:42when producing the original song that gets to be put out to the world usually there's just so many
33:51versions of it before that never really gets to see the light of day or there's so many
33:56there's so many ways you can take a production where um
34:04like i don't know like it's just so fun to give it another life um and i'm so i'm just
34:10so excited
34:10like some of these people on it i just can't believe it that's really where i felt like wow like
34:16i'm a star like i'm like wow you want it to be on my song it's really incredible i'm so

34:47i've
34:47gotten to know you from yes that young girl that was hungry and wanted it but then really i feel
34:52like this was about the evolution of you as a woman and coming into your own and yes you've popped
34:58off
34:58and so many people are talking about you now but like you've been working at this and it's so well
35:03deserved and you've put the work in you've put the time in and it seems in a beautiful way like
35:08you're still being so true to yourself yes and that to me is what is going to like make you
35:14continue to stand out to people because it feels really authentic it's the only way that could work
35:20in a way like it's just what it's just what has to be it it has to be it and
35:26it is and that's what
