00:21:53sometimes it's a little space in between okay we were on the back of a boat and they had the

00:21:57biodegradable golf balls okay and they had a like club so i literally just started hitting them off the

00:22:05back of the boat and i was like man this is not bad and when we got back my friends

00:22:12mexico and they were like oh we're going on a golf trip you want to roll i was like yeah

00:22:15and when i went on the golf trip and everybody else was kind of okay and i was so bad

00:22:21a competitive person i did not like the feeling of being that bad so i made a bet with them

00:47:37of a lifetime through a competition for a comedian to walk away with an hour special on netflix and we

00:47:43want to allow you know the world to interact we want to allow you to vote to be a part

00:47:49of it um

00:47:50and help us crown who can be and should be the next face in comedy and i think you know

00:47:58for me

00:47:58at this stage in my career it's about me helping helping others it's about me really trying to do my

00:48:06part in getting this next generation to the next stage um such a good idea yeah so that's what it

00:48:13is man i got amazing comedians that helped me in doing so but it's special it's really good a lot

00:48:18of

00:48:18real real funny people on this what do you tend to look for like quality wise in up and coming

00:48:24comics

00:48:25what i tend to look for um personality of course stage presence right you want to see a star quality

00:48:32but

00:48:33at the end of the day you want to see people that aren't afraid to be themselves on stage

00:48:36and i think that's the hardest code to crack in comedy right figuring out how to be yourself

00:48:41how to be uniquely you um and understand that that's what audiences resonate with yeah i think

00:48:46once you crack that code becomes easier for you to churn it becomes easier how much grace do you give

00:48:54them for bombing a set a lot this isn't a a series where i'm looking to highlight the bad right

00:49:01i'm

00:49:01i'm also going to protect those that may not have had the best set um uh everything doesn't need to

00:49:08be showcased in full i'm not looking to ruin careers i'm looking to make them so i think when you

00:49:13have

00:49:14that attitude and and that outlook you can do no wrong there is no meter of bad to sway to

00:49:22excited because i just feel like we obviously have so many competition shows but this obviously we

00:49:27don't have and we have so many singing things which i love like who doesn't love watching the voice who

00:49:32doesn't watch like american idol and it's so fun but i think kind of similar to social media so many

00:49:38people are getting um discovered in ways that you have access to and i think this will be cool to

00:49:43see

00:49:43like a saturated amount of really talented people and with your guidance i'm excited well i think you know

00:49:50we've never had we've never had a raw a raw comedy series with competition right everybody's had to

00:50:00scale back everybody's had to you know uh corporate it up or clean it up so i think you know

00:50:06and allowing

00:50:06people to be 1000 authentic to who they are and true to who they are um it just gives a

00:50:13nice little

00:50:13level of freshness to it what do you hope your legacy in comedy is what do i hope my legacy

00:50:20in comedy is

00:50:21it's a great question um i don't think it's for me to to to define right like i think um

00:50:31um it's my job to do the work and have a crazy resume and a crazy book with amazing chapters

00:50:48of success ups downs failures wins um

00:50:56um and then when it's all said and done you can throw all of this on the table

00:51:04and you can cipher through it and go oh my god i forgot he did holy that's right he did

00:51:12oh my god like this is crazy from a catalog like i thought about it the other day

00:51:18i have a i have a comedy catalog a stand-up comedy catalog that's nine hours right nine hours of

00:51:30stand-up

00:51:30comedy that really show my progression in life good and bad it's all there on stage um

00:51:41i've been able to to tap into every lane within entertainment movies tv action action comedy adventure

00:51:53animation drama dramedy right like there's unscripted tv to unscripted uh documentary move like there's

00:52:09an author

00:52:12then you go to business like there's so much

00:52:15that i've been fortunate and blessed enough to do i just hope that when it's all said and done

00:52:20there's a conversation of realization and uh it's celebrated and i hope that enough of it is visible

00:52:28and surpass whatever the fuck this is that i've done like that's what's supposed to happen

00:52:33it's supposed to be a baton that's passed and somebody somebody grabs it and does the unthinkable

00:52:40somebody sees the example of so many and goes oh i can do that and i'm gonna make a left

00:52:46and then

00:52:46i'm gonna go up the hill yeah i'm gonna do more it is cool to like when you obviously you

00:52:52people look

00:52:52at you now and you're kevin hart but i think a lot of times what we don't think about is

00:52:57the beginning

00:52:57days of like how things were hard and you had to grind to make it and you know that story

00:53:03you remember that part of yourself and i think to know that trajectory for yourself you obviously had

00:53:09people that you looked up to that you're like i can do this because i've watched x amount of people

00:53:14be able to do a certain form of whatever and i think you're right it's like having people now

00:53:18younger that are like i want to do what kevin hart has done i think that's such a testament to

00:53:23like

00:53:23the amount you've been able to do and not just get pigeonholed into just comedy like

00:53:28you're you've kind of done everything and that doesn't dilute anything you've done which i think

00:53:33is really cool as a performer because i think sometimes we think like i want to be known for

00:53:39this one thing and so sometimes people get really in their fucking head like well i can't do that

00:53:43because then it's going to take away from this and i feel like you're kind of a great exception to

00:53:47that rule where you've really dipped your toe into every lane and succeeded there and you've been

00:53:54kind of rewarded for it and people love you for it well i think you know a lot of stuff

00:53:59that i did was

00:53:59going against the the traditional conversation right like there's a traditional model there's an

00:54:06expectation within that model of what you're supposed to do and what's enough and what's too much

00:54:13and i disregarded all of that and i chose the concept of as much as i can because why not

00:54:21right like

00:54:23why not and who says and you know i remember there was a time where i was doing like three

00:54:28movies a year

00:54:30and i was touring at the same time and doing a tv show like there was like there was a

00:54:35there was a

00:54:36run where i was a i was a fucking monster in my in my prime i was a monster like

00:54:45in

00:54:47the let me explain wave we were doing arenas and i was

00:54:54selling out three four shows at arenas doing two shows a night and arenas like i mean

00:55:02the volume of work that i was doing i'm never going to duplicate that again never never can i

00:55:12never will i right now i think i'm more seasoned than i've ever been i think i am

00:55:20so well crafted within the craft surgical almost

00:55:26but i know that the moment of whoa is gone and now i'm chasing different variations of a high and

00:55:39it comes just within completion right like what am i trying to complete you know at the end of the

00:55:46day

00:55:46i have nine hours okay 10 is a great number is 10 it within movies what am i looking to

00:55:52do what

00:55:53what opportunities am i looking to create or give where am i looking to challenge myself am i looking

00:55:58to have fun am i looking to enjoy the thing that i do at 50 years old where do i

00:56:04want to be

00:56:06where do i want to be comfortable bowing down bowing out like all these things are my new focus of

00:56:15of thought right like if you if you don't think about what's happening up there at the curve when you

00:56:23get

00:56:23there it may be a fucking cliff you may fall off the cliff so so i'm i'm very adamant about

00:56:30my approach

00:56:31to my do now and just thinking about the years before and just thinking about the earlier time

00:56:41um it's a little mind-blowing it's it's a little mind-blowing which is which is why i'm so energized

00:56:49just to bring it full circle within helping this next wave like i i want so many

00:56:57to see and do or get their version of that because it's the dopest shit ever so i want to

00:57:04see other

00:57:05people i want to see other people win that i mean that's really commendable because like you could just

00:57:11sail off and have fun with your cars and your watches and your family and that is um it's cool

00:57:18to see people in your position like actually be interested in lifting other people up because

00:57:24there can be ego like i don't want people to do 10 hours and i only had not or whatever

00:57:28it is

00:57:29and it's like i do think that's kind of the beauty of every time i've ever gotten to speak to

00:57:33someone

00:57:33who is like i this was the craziest like i don't even like saying prime like this was like the

00:57:39craziest

00:57:39like height of my career a lot of the people like as fun as that was i'm so much happier

00:57:44now

00:57:45because i can like see it all i can like see myself i can see my life and my career

00:57:49in the same

00:57:50time and a lot of times when you're in your prime you have to just black the out and just

00:57:54go go go

00:57:55which isn't bad it's just you have perspective on the other side so the fact that you're able to give

00:58:00that to these young comedians that's invaluable so well i think i think it goes within you know

00:58:07anybody in any aspect of career entertainment business corporate whatever it doesn't matter

00:58:13when you're in your i call it jello when you're in the jello like that prime phase of oh my

00:58:18god

00:58:19you don't see it you don't realize it's going so fast that you're in it it's like if you're having

00:58:26a

00:58:26good run and you're not you're not clocking it you're not you're not tracking the miles but you feel

00:58:34so good on a run and your best run you'll look up and you'll stop you'll turn around and you

00:58:40go

00:58:40fuck i didn't know i went that far wow i didn't know i did this far and then you'll go

00:58:47back and

00:58:47you'll finish the run and you'll say what was that like how how far do you think i ran and

00:58:51when you

00:58:51finally get to tally it's 12 miles 10 miles you go oh my god i didn't feel that now granted

00:58:57somebody tells you to go run 12 miles and you know the number you're gonna be hey man it's not

00:59:02gonna be the same run it's gonna be a little struggle for you in the beginning stages when things

00:59:06started going and they took off it's not until you got comfortable set that you look back it was

00:59:10like oh my god holy shit we it was doing and my listeners were and now you're comfortable and you're

00:59:19set and it's a different thing and it's a different approach but you you can't see it when it's happening

00:59:25you can't you can't and it's also a little hard to appreciate one thousand percent because you're just

00:59:30like also kind of in a mode that you can't yeah you can't take it in yeah and it's hard
