00:02Zara Larson, welcome to Call Our Daddy.
00:04Thanks.
00:04It is so nice to meet you.
00:06Nice to meet you.
00:07I have been really, really looking forward to this.
00:10Me too.
00:11Girl, you are having a moment.
00:15I know.
00:15It's so crazy.
00:16How has Zira felt for you and how are you handling all the attention?
00:20No, it feels amazing.
00:22Honestly, I've been thinking a lot about it because internally, it's so crazy because
00:26I've been doing this forever.
00:27And I think a lot of people might just discover me and find out about me.
00:33And sometimes, you know, a lot of artists, it seems like they just like pop out of nowhere.
00:36But I've really been doing this for my whole entire life.
00:41And yeah, internally, it just feels exactly the same.
00:45I feel like nothing's really changed for me like in my day to day or how I feel when I
00:52wake up and like what I do.
00:53I'm still on tour right now and I've been touring for like the past year.
00:57So everything feels really normal.
01:00I think the only difference or the biggest difference is like my interactions on like
01:04my posts look different.
01:06And like the amounts of like likes and comments and shares and even things I say in interviews
01:13or like things I say to that today.
01:15I think earlier it might have been like, wow, like I just say something.
01:19But then.
01:20Yeah, it's like a bigger microscope.
01:22Yes.
01:22Yes.
01:23That is so interesting because it's like you're talking about how your life you feel.
01:26It's like it's been the same.
01:27But then there's these big moments that, yes, you can pinpoint there.
01:30It's like, OK, more people are noticing me.
01:31Like then we have the Olympics.
01:33Alyssa Luce skated to Stateside, which was everyone's talking about it.
01:39What did that mean to you?
01:40It was so amazing.
01:42And I knew she was going to do that because she mentioned it in an interview like the day
01:46before some some interview asked her like, what are you going to do for for this performance?
01:50And when I saw it, I just kept watching it.
01:53I maybe watch it like five times with my friends and we filmed the first time and I put it
01:57on
01:57TikTok.
01:58But then the more I watched it, like the more emotional I felt because I think it's also
02:03just seeing her looking so.
02:08In it, like she's so in her body and she's so free and she looks so joyful like that is
02:16my vibe and the way she talks about her sport.
02:20And why she doesn't.
02:21And the fact that it just seems to come from this place of true passion and love and not
02:29that no one's forcing her to do it or that, you know, it just feels like on her terms.
02:35And then she did it to to Pink Panther's and my song.
02:40It just felt like, obviously, I will give her all the credit for pushing it up to number
02:44one.
02:45But being in that moment for me feels bigger than like the charts, because I feel like
02:53that's like a cultural is like her story.
02:57Truly.
02:58It's the Olympics.
02:59It's like it's representing of countries in the world.
03:03No, she just I'm so excited to like have been a part of that because that's that's iconic.
03:08Did you get to talk to her at all?
03:11Did you guys DM?
03:12I did.
03:13Yes.
03:13Because that's actually a very fun part about getting recognized and like having more followers
03:18and having this like celebrity situation.
03:21I feel like I can reach out to basically like a lot of people and I know I will probably
03:26get an answer.
03:27Have you been sliding into people's DMs, Zara?
03:30Yeah, but I do it with like with like love, like Queen, like, hey, Queen.
03:35Have you gotten any like messages back where like, I can't believe I'm even DMing with this
03:40person casually?
03:41I reach out to a lot of artists, like a lot of girls, sometimes just to say like, hey,
03:47big fan, like love what you do.
03:50Like, I'm the one that you know that they're going to read it because you go right to the
03:53top.
03:53You got that check.
03:54You're like, hi, it's me.
03:56Yeah.
03:56Have a good Wednesday.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Yeah.
03:58It's amazing.
03:59But I just said like, thank you so much.
04:00That was incredible.
04:02You're amazing.
04:03Like, please come to a show.
04:04She has to.
04:05I mean, I feel like this new album and era has been really transformative for you.
04:12It almost feels like a reintroduction in a way and not even just with your music.
04:16It's also your style and your image.
04:19Like, what inspiration did you pull to create this new world?
04:25Well, a lot of people, you know, give credit to the dolphin trend on TikTok, which
04:31girl, we got to talk about it, which honestly, you know, it's I don't think they're wrong.
04:38I think subconsciously.
04:41When you move through life, you just pick up a bunch of stuff.
04:44I can't I can't say with the hand on my heart, like the dolphin was not on the mood board,
04:51but, you know, it's like it was there.
04:53It was a big part of my 2024.
04:57Can you just quickly just for anyone who lives under a rock and maybe it's like,
05:01No, some people do.
05:02What are you guys talking about?
05:03The dolphin?
05:04What dolphin?
05:05Can you explain the dolphin where they came from and how they essentially impacted your life?
05:10Yeah.
05:11Okay.
05:12Where did they come from?
05:13I don't know.
05:14I remember one time I was doing a festival.
05:16I was in Norway and my friends just this day, particularly, I remember because they kept
05:21sending me these videos on TikTok.
05:24It was just very colorful dolphins.
05:26They're jumping out of the water.
05:28It's rainbows.
05:29It's blue skies.
05:30It's like happiness in a picture, vivid.
05:35And then that picture paired with the kind of explosive chorus of symphony with a very
05:45depressing quote of your life, you know, and I think it's that.
05:50But what's the word juxtaposition?
05:52Yes.
05:53Yeah.
05:54Yes, it is.
05:55It's like a big word.
05:55It's like something so.
05:56Yeah.
05:56It's something so depressing in text.
06:00Yeah.
06:00To symphony in the background.
06:02I just want to be part of this.
06:04And it's like so random.
06:05And it makes you laugh every single time you see one.
06:08And that blew up.
06:10Insane.
06:10Because when they when they sent me those videos, it was like maybe five to ten thousand likes
06:15per video.
06:15And I was like, whoa, like, why is this becoming a thing?
06:18And then from one day to another, it was just everywhere.
06:22But yeah, I think like my style and everything from that.
06:27The thing is, I did feel like it spoke to me, just the image, because I have always loved
06:32glitter.
06:32I love glam.
06:34I love the sparkle.
06:34I love colors.
06:36I love like, whoa, like this, you know, I love that.
06:39And I have always felt a little bit, not embarrassed, but like being from Sweden, which is very
06:46like minimalistic.
06:48It's like clean lines.
06:50It's a lot of neutrals, a lot of black, like in fashion.
06:54And I've always wanted to be like in fashion, because I think music and fashion go so hand
06:59in hand.
06:59I feel like I had to repress that side of me a little bit and like be fashion.
07:04And then it just turned into like a really weird style.
07:08And I think this album just allowed me to fully do what I love.
07:16What you said, too, with the fashion element is so true to artists, the way that they express
07:23themselves and the way that they also differentiate themselves from other artists is through fashion,
07:28not just the music.
07:29And obviously your fashion sense has really popped off.
07:34And I think people are obsessed with the way that you dress.
07:37And I can tell that so much of your creative vision is poured into your fashion.
07:42People have called you a mermaid Barbie.
07:44Does that resonate?
07:46I love that.
07:47You love it.
07:48I love it.
07:49I love it.
07:50It's perfect.
07:51Like that's my dream.
07:52Is that how you would describe your aesthetic?
07:54Yeah, maybe definitely colorful.
07:56You know, I love the long hair, especially when I'm on tour to just like throw it around,
08:02have the wind, have the sparkles.
08:04Like I love the showness of it.
08:07I love that it feels like.
08:12It's not pedestrian, you know, it's like nowhere we're putting on a show.
08:17And especially this time around, because I'm doing my US run and we have like maybe the budget is five
08:24dollars.
08:24Like, you know what I mean?
08:25It's like it's small.
08:26Like I was when we when we did these when we booked these venues, like I didn't know that this
08:31was going to happen.
08:32Like I didn't know I was going to sit here and talk to you like a year ago.
08:35I didn't know like what would be happening to me.
08:38So we have these like amazing, amazing women that I share the stage with and my band and my dancers
08:43and me.
08:44And that's the show.
08:45I mean, we are the show.
08:47So like the show has to be like the outfits, you know, the light and the hair.
08:52But that makes sense where it's like people forget that tours are booked so far in advance.
08:57And so like we try to upgrade and it's just it's booked out like so far in advance.
09:01But I will be back, though.
09:03You will be back.
09:03And you know what?
09:04Maybe it's fun that it's like this is going to be the most intimate it will ever get because it's
09:10like your career is on the rise.
09:11OK, you mentioned you're chronically online.
09:14Yeah, which I remember seeing an interview.
09:16You said that your screen time was like 16 hours a day.
09:18And I'm like, perfect.
09:19She doesn't sleep.
09:20No, I don't.
09:21What app are you using the most?
09:23TikTok.
09:24I figured.
09:25What is like taking over your for you page?
09:28Like what is it?
09:28If I was if I was on your phone, what am I?
09:31No, it's me.
09:33You're your own biggest fan.
09:34I'm obsessed.
09:35For real.
09:35Like I try to engage also so much in like what people post and like what they say.
09:40And I like always like and comment and like engage.
09:42So I feel like my algorithm is like, oh, you must like be a really big fan of Zara Larson.
09:48So it's just like I'm like, yes, like, like, like, like, like, repost, repost.
09:54And then what else is it?
09:56But that's the that's the that's the crazy part of it all.
09:58You can spend like six hours on that app.
10:00And then you lay down your phone.
10:02You're like, what have I just watched for six hours?
10:05And then you pick it up because you're like, I need more.
10:07And you're like, what did I even watch the way you scroll?
10:09It's like next video will be amazing.
10:11Next video will be amazing.
10:12It's that.
10:13I love how you're saying that.
10:14And your videos are you because I know the next one's good.
10:17No, I feel like some people's are like would be like whenever people would see themselves
10:22on an app.
10:23They'd be like, oh, my God, quickly scroll whether they're like, I'm going to be cringe
10:26or whatever you have.
10:27You're like, I fucking love myself.
10:30Yes.
10:31But also, I think it's like that's funny.
10:32How can you say that, actually, because I used to really be like that?
10:36I used to like not watch anything.
10:38I didn't want to watch any performances.
10:40I was like, oh, like, get it away from me, you know.
10:44And now I think it's just so in in my face a lot of the times.
10:48And it truly did come from me wanting to like engage with the people who are posting it.
10:55But but I think also the older I get, I've never actually been a very shameful person.
11:01Like everything that I do, I think that's one of my best qualities is that I I don't
11:07carry like a lot of shame.
11:10And I think that just allows me to have more fun and like not be so hard on myself and
11:16judgmental because I really used to be like every time I would step off stage, it wasn't
11:21good enough.
11:22I it wasn't fun, like I could have done better.
11:24That was embarrassing.
11:26Oh, I messed this up.
11:27I did.
11:28I was just like everything was like, boo.
11:30What do you think was that turning point for you, though?
11:32Was it age?
11:34Perhaps age.
11:36I think it was also me really feeling like I because I've been doing this for like so
11:41long.
11:43It wasn't until quite recently.
11:45I felt like I.
11:48I am finally like a part of creating what I do, because when I started out, I didn't
11:53write my music.
11:54I didn't like really creatively.
11:59Make like my shows, my video, I feel like it was just kind of happening around me and
12:05it was happening with I was always like a part of the decision, the overall like decision
12:09making.
12:09And I got I got to like, no, I want to do this song like I don't want to do
12:13this song.
12:13But overall, I think a sense of control that I have now where it's like it's coming from
12:19me.
12:20That's when I feel like it represents me.
12:23And I feel like it's I have to plant the seed.
12:27I can't just like tend to the garden that somebody else planted.
12:30I have to like this how I feel.
12:32I have to make like write my music, be a part of the show, be a part of designing like
12:38what
12:38I wear, be a part.
12:39And then it just makes me feel like in control and it makes it so much more fun.
12:44Right.
12:44It's almost like I was thinking about it when you're saying that you saying you don't scroll
12:49past yourself.
12:50It's because you're fully aware of what you're about to see, because all of the creative
12:54you chose, all of your outfits, what you're singing, you chose.
12:57So you're like, oh, I remember.
12:59Oh, and I hit that dance move.
13:00And I like that moment where before you're probably like, oh, God, why did I do that?
13:04Why did I do that?
13:05I was already feeling icky about it before I went on stage because I actually didn't even really
13:08know if I wanted to sing that song.
13:09Yeah.
13:10Call Her Daddy is brought to you by Starbucks.
13:12Last week, I had one of those days where everything was stacked back to back and early
13:17morning interview, then a photo shoot and then meetings all afternoon.
13:20And by the time it was 3 p.m., I was crashing so hard.
13:23But thankfully, there was a Starbucks right down the street from the office.
13:27Getting in a little coffee walk to Starbucks has really it just helps me reset my afternoons.
13:33Maybe if you need to recharge, you know, great.
13:35Maybe you need a minute just to like stop scrolling your inbox.
13:39Whatever it is, your favorite handmade Starbucks drink is right there giving you an excuse to
13:43escape just for a second, whether it's work, school or literally whatever you're getting
13:48bugged out with.
13:49I think we deserve to all make a little afternoon Starbucks break part of the daily routine.
13:54Personally, I have been loving going to get their iced brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso.
14:01Hello, it's a little espresso, some sweet brown sugar and cinnamon and then creamy oat milk
14:06to top it off.
14:07It has truly become the thing I look forward to every single afternoon.
14:12My office knows now that my Starbucks walk is it's a bit of me time.
14:18OK, I have my routine now.
14:20Hit my slump, work, zoom out of the office, walk to Starbucks, call my mom, text my group
14:26chat and I'm ready to go for the back half of the day.
14:28Daddy gang, we all deserve a little pause.
14:30Turn your afternoon into a reset moment with Starbucks.
14:34Call Her Daddy is brought to you by Tinder.
14:36Daddy gang, if you're looking for a sign to put yourself out there, Tinder's new astrology
14:40mode is it.
14:41Whether you're someone who blames everything on Mercury being in retrograde or you're the
14:46type of person who has literally no idea what that means, Tinder's got you.
14:49Gone are the days of stalking your crush's mom's social media to find out their exact time
14:54of birth, because now with Tinder's astrology mode, you can fill out your birth chart info
14:59on your profile and be shown a glimpse of your astrological compatibility with potential
15:03matches from communication styles to emotional compatibility.
15:07Tinder is telling you everything you need to know because maybe you're an earth sign who
15:11needs a little air to balance you out.
15:13Or maybe you're a fire sign who needs a little water.
15:16As a Leo myself, I knew I needed to avoid a cancer sign, but Matt being an Aries, it actually
15:22ended up weirdly working perfectly.
15:24So it's designed to be easy and fun, whether you're a full-blown Zodiac girl or you're just
15:28like still completely skeptical of astrology.
15:31Astrology mode is just a great way to break the ice.
15:34Time to see if the stars align.
15:37Try Tinder astrology mode.
15:38Explore all of the possibilities for yourself.
15:40Tinder, it starts with a swipe.
15:42Download Tinder today.
15:44You sparked a lot of conversation when you said that you finally broke out of the Kia
15:50Asylum.
15:51First of all, for anyone who does not know what that means, can you explain what the
15:56Kia Asylum is?
15:57I feel like it's a place that, okay, here we go.
16:04It's a place, I don't know how it was started.
16:07And it's this institution where I think it's mostly girls in there, honestly, like the pop
16:14girls that have big hits.
16:17So they've been charting, like they maybe have billions of streams on their songs.
16:21Like I have really popular songs, but they have little to no like cultural relevance,
16:28I would say, or maybe like an identity.
16:32So they have like the songs and people know, can sing along with them, but they might not
16:38necessarily know who is singing the song.
16:41And I've always kind of struggled with this.
16:43I'm like, oh, I've been so aware of it.
16:45And I didn't know about like the Kia Asylum or the Kia Asylum before, you know, like five,
16:51six, seven years ago, but I've always felt like, what is it that, because I feel like
16:57I have so much inside of me that people can connect with.
17:01Why, why can't I bridge that gap?
17:03Because I've had these amazing songs, but like, what the fuck is happening that makes
17:09me not, you know, isn't clicking.
17:12Yeah.
17:12In your opinion, now looking back, what do you think was keeping you there?
17:16I think, I think it was being free in like sharing myself because I, you know, I've tried
17:26the whole like, I'm going to be mysterious.
17:28There's something very like, like sexy about that, you know, but I'm not a mysterious person.
17:33And that's just genuinely not who I am.
17:36So with this Midnight Sun, because it felt so much like me, I also felt like just sharing
17:44who I am with people and my followers.
17:46I think my, my like, you know, hardcore fans have always kind of known me and like checked
17:52out all my interviews and like all of that.
17:54But I think I've also just shared more of myself with my followers and like online.
18:01And I think it's, again, I think it's all these small things coming together, like the
18:05music, the fashion, the personality, just me being freer, but also more, um, yeah, like
18:17myself.
18:18It's like you thought being in the music industry, you're like, maybe I'll just try to be mysterious
18:23and look at when you just leaned into yourself.
18:26Everyone's like, bitch, but it's also hard.
18:28I think like Instagram is like hard because it is so like aesthetic, you know, it's so hard.
18:33And I think that's why it's just so much easier to like, like connect because I don't have
18:37to think about and, and, and even sometimes I do want to wear like a black leather jacket.
18:43And now I'm like, wait, can I do that?
18:45But it's like the duality of a woman.
18:48Like I still have it in me.
18:49I still have a leather jacket in me.
18:51I love it.
18:51I love it.
18:52But it's hard.
18:53It's hard to like, I think that's also what it is.
18:57Actually, now when I think back at it, it's like staying a little bit disciplined because
19:00it is me and it is what I love, but it's also like, if you want to create some sort
19:06of brand, you have to have the consistency and the discipline.
19:09You're so right.
19:11You said in an interview that people used to call you a flop like 50 times a day.
19:16I was like, no, listen, girl, that's why I had to delete Twitter.
19:19I'm like, take care.
19:21You're like, goodbye.
19:23But how did those type of comments affect you when you were reading them and consuming
19:27them?
19:28It's weird because it's this like game with my brain.
19:33I think reading it's it's so strange how I don't think we're meant to read a thousand
19:39opinions about ourselves a day, even like over five.
19:44Like that's a lot.
19:45And I think what matters is like what the people around you are saying.
19:49Right.
19:50So having having like some sort of social media or platform where people would just kind
19:56of say everything.
19:57And I have to be honest, like, yeah, I searched for my name.
19:59I did that.
20:00I don't want to see the mention.
20:02Oh, you want to talk about Wikipedia?
20:04Oh, we know.
20:06How do we can we quickly talk about that?
20:08Really pivot?
20:09Sorry.
20:09Yeah.
20:10This Wikipedia beef that you have.
20:12Have we settled it?
20:14Have we squashed it?
20:14They lock the page.
20:16They did.
20:16No one can no one can come in and edit it anymore.
20:20And explain the photo to people who haven't seen it.
20:22It was just an ugly photo of me.
20:24And I was like, I don't want that to be the photo.
20:26I want it to be a hot photo.
20:27And then we try to change it.
20:29And then they kept changing back.
20:30And we emailed them like, can can like we just keep this picture?
20:33And they were like, well, it has to be by a photographer who have to give up like the
20:38copyright.
20:38And I'm like, yeah, but like I took the photo or like my friend took the photo.
20:42And they were like, what camera?
20:44And then we send this camera and they were like, send us a full resolution.
20:46And we're like, it's just like a small bad digital.
20:49Going back and forth with Wikipedia.
20:51No, like back and forth.
20:52I think they didn't believe that I like owned the picture.
20:55And I was like, no, like I have to send them a video.
20:57Like, hey, this is our Larson.
20:59Like I took this photo, like my friend took this photo and they were like, yeah, so the
21:04cut, no, girl, it was the whole thing.
21:06The length that you went to be like, there will be no ugly photo of me.
21:10Get this shit out.
21:12Zara.
21:14I'm like, that's the one I want.
21:16You're like, I want to serve face.
21:17Also, I love how of all the photos, you're like, no one even looks at fucking Wikipedia
21:21these days.
21:22But you're like, my Wikipedia will slay to the gods.
21:24And don't you ever forget it.
21:26Honestly, I have a lot of respect for that.
21:28How many times did you go in and try to change it?
21:30Oh, like 20.
21:32Yes.
21:33It was over a period of time.
21:35And then when I posted the video, I posted a video on TikTok.
21:38I was like, whoever is changing this, like, stop it.
21:41Like, because I will not give up.
21:43I will change it 21 times.
21:45I'm obsessed.
21:46Like every morning you're having your coffee, you're like, here we go.
21:50Refresh.
21:50Yes.
21:51Yes.
21:52Like I will text my friend Vandala.
21:54Just be like, you have to change it again.
21:55Like it's changed back.
21:56Okay, so you're searching yourself online constantly.
22:00You're as deep in as Wikipedia.
22:04And I think it's like, again, a sense of false control of like, what are people saying about
22:08me?
22:08What are they thinking about me?
22:09Because at the end of the day, I'm like an artist, right?
22:12Like I have this ego that I have to soothe and I want people to love me and I want
22:17people
22:17to like what I do.
22:19And when I have a bad day, I almost go in and I search for like the good comments gives
22:25me a boost and like, yay, you know, it's like, woo.
22:28But then I just kind of look for the bad comments to almost confirm what I feel about myself that
22:37day.
22:37And it's like, I knew it.
22:40I knew it.
22:41What are some of the negative things that you feel about yourself?
22:44Because I feel like people online would look and be like, oh, you want to know what I look
22:48up when I want to like get confidence?
22:50It's a Zara Larson dancing video of you shaking your ass, looking like the hottest goddess in
22:56the world and then like, so I'm assuming people are like, wait, what do you mean?
22:59Like, no, I think it is.
23:00I think if I have a bad day, I mean, what the only the only thing that affects me is,
23:06which
23:06I guess it's true for everyone.
23:08The things that affects you is the things that you believe even a little bit, you know?
23:15So because I always like, I always felt this disconnect with people or like, fuck, I'm in
23:22the key asylum, like I'm really stuck in here, you know?
23:25Or like, maybe I am a flop or like, what is it that doesn't connect?
23:28Like, what am I missing?
23:30And like all those things, I think that affects me more because I've been like beefing with
23:36people online since I was like 14 and I had my blog and I would just, you know, but I
23:42used to write a lot about feminism.
23:43I used to write a lot about like, I was out here hating men before it became a thing.
23:48Yes, no, truly.
23:51And when it comes to me personally, I think, yeah, like when I have a bad day, it just
23:59reinforces what I feel like I already felt.
24:02Right.
24:03Do you look back at the time when there was negativity and when it would get to you before
24:07you got yourself out of this asylum?
24:10Did it impact the way that you felt about releasing music?
24:14Yes.
24:15Talk to me about that.
24:16Well, I think I just cared a lot about what people would think and what people would say.
24:23And earlier on, I also, again, I didn't like write my stuff.
24:28So I felt like since it wasn't really like coming from me, like my words.
24:37I could kind of only lean on other people's like, I could know that it's good.
24:43I think it's good.
24:44But also, like, it was very important for other people to also feel like it was good for
24:48me because I started like I got signed at 14.
24:51And at that point, you're so young and you're around all these grownups.
24:54And they just, you know, have been in the industry for a really long time and they're
25:00very talented.
25:01So it's like we're giving you this song and we're giving you this song.
25:03And it wasn't really like an option for me to what I didn't know, like I when you don't
25:09know what it is, you don't know.
25:10You just don't even know where to start.
25:12And I've always kind of I've loved writing.
25:14Like I said, I had my blog.
25:15I love to like I love to like express myself.
25:19But I think also I try to be in some sessions and and I think there's just this sense of
25:25like, like when you're 14, 15, it's hard to truly emotionally connect with someone who
25:31is like 40.
25:34And those are the type of people you're sitting in that room with.
25:36Yeah, you feel really small and they're so amazing and incredible.
25:41So I just kind of felt like, oh, what do I have to say?
25:44Like, you guys know better than I do when really it's not about that.
25:47It's just about like it's not about who who is better.
25:51It's like who can now I realize like who can get who can get me the most comfortable so
25:58I can be the most myself.
26:00But even Zara, I'm thinking to you referenced, you know, you're a young girl at the time when
26:06you started your career.
26:07When you would walk into rooms with label executives and producers, you would be the
26:15youngest person there.
26:16Definitely.
26:16What did that make you feel like?
26:21It's just always been like that for me.
26:25And now when that's no longer the reality, I'm like, wow, I think I really, really would
26:31have benefited from being around people more like my age.
26:38But it's really hard to find like the next big but the number one writer, 15 year old
26:44like, you know what I mean?
26:45You're not stacking your studio with 15 year olds.
26:47Yeah, yeah.
26:49Just like come hang after school.
26:53Who's paying for the studio?
26:55None of us have jobs.
26:57No, I get it.
26:58No, so it's just always been like that.
27:00And the thing is, I used to have my mom with me everywhere.
27:03OK, my mom was with me everywhere, like in every session and every studio, like she would
27:08sit right there.
27:10Like she was just with me.
27:12And I think that is such a blessing for me.
27:16And like thinking back at it, I'm very thankful that she was just there, you know, and I've
27:22always felt like the people I started working with were also because I got signed to an
27:28independent label in Sweden called 10.
27:31And starting out, it was kind of this 360 deal where they were like managing and record
27:37label, which kind of worked in the beginning because it was so small and it was just kind
27:40of in Sweden.
27:41But they were also with me and I felt like I could really trust them.
27:48They always wanted like what was best for me.
27:50I've been lucky to have been around good people.
27:53You go on tour with all these women.
27:55Yes.
27:56Since surrounding yourself with women, what difference has that made for you in your career?
28:01I feel so confident.
28:02Yeah.
28:02I feel so free in expressing myself.
28:06I also feel like for a lot of women, like in whatever kind of work they're doing, even
28:13like on tour, because we're all women on stage, but there's so much happening.
28:20Also, a lot of women holding the mics, you know, performing, being pop stars, but the producers
28:24and the people working backstage, like nothing of this would work without people surrounding
28:31me or like the industry.
28:33So I think they always just have to, the classic, you know, work twice as hard to take or to
28:44get half the recognition that men get.
28:47And it feels really, um, it feels really like they're just so accomplished and I feel like
28:56everyone is being taken seriously and it does.
28:58You don't have to like prove all the time that you know what you're talking about or that
29:03you know what you want.
29:05It's so refreshing.
29:06And I'm curious, like since having this success, I, in your song Stateside, you say, I'm that
29:12girl, I've been it.
29:13Yes.
29:14What does it feel like now that you really have people finally recognizing that?
29:18Like, is it a little annoying?
29:20Like are people coming out of the woodwork?
29:22I love it.
29:23I love it.
29:24And they just prove like, oh, I'm the shit.
29:26Like I'm hot right now.
29:27Like that's fun.
29:28It just, it says more about like what I'm doing then.
29:31Um, and I think, I think, I think actually maybe the opposite for me.
29:37I think a lot of my friends, because I'm so bad at staying in contact with my friends
29:43when I travel just in general, like this really been an issue for me and a lot of my friendships
29:48throughout the years, because I'm away a lot.
29:50And like the only thing that exists for me, I'm very present.
29:53It's this, like whatever's in front of my nose that exists.
29:57But I think almost the opposite that people might be scared of now, like clothes, clothes
30:02friends that I had are a bit like scared of calling me because maybe they don't want
30:10to think that I, like that they're calling me because that it's going well for me.
30:15I see.
30:15So it's almost like the opposite.
30:17Where you're like, girl, call me.
30:18Yes.
30:19Let's go.
30:20Yes.
30:20Let's go get dinner.
30:21Yes.
30:22But also like, yeah, I've been, I feel like I am just, um, doing what I do, you know,
30:28and that's what makes it so fun and easy.
30:29I think this whole era is just, I don't really have to think about like, oh, fuck,
30:34what's going to be the next thing?
30:35Like, oh, because I just do what I like.
30:38And like, I just do what feels right.
30:41And that's just who I am at the moment.
30:44And then I don't have to overthink what's next so much or what it is.
30:49Like, it's just is.
30:50And I've, I'm just, I'm just this.
30:52Like, I'm very open.
30:53What you see is what you get.
30:54Okay.
30:54Let's talk about tour.
30:56Yeah.
30:56First of all, the one note in your song, Midnight Sun.
31:00Yeah.
31:00It's like kind of long.
31:01It's kind of long.
31:02Do you have to like prep for it?
31:05Like when you do it live, are you like, like, could you bust it out right now?
31:09Or do you have to like fully prep for that?
31:13I could bust it out right now.
31:14It's just loud.
31:16Would you do it for me?
31:17Wait.
31:18Wait.
31:20Not me fangirling.
31:21Okay.
31:21Me pushing my mic way too.
31:24Okay.
31:25I think that's the right key.
31:27So I do take a breath.
31:29That's what I do.
31:29Take a breath.
31:52I think that was the right key.
31:54Maybe it was, I think it was lower.
31:55If that wasn't the right key.
31:57Maybe it's up there.
31:58Yeah.
31:59I just got tears in my eyes.
32:01Oh, stop it.
32:01Wait.
32:03No, no, no.
32:04I'm not even gassing you up.
32:05Every single woman in this room right now.
32:07Your voice.
32:09Oh, thanks.
32:11Getting a little live performance right now.
32:13I'm like, I have full chill.
32:15But you know, I used to do that.
32:17I think that was like when I used to go to these like record labels to be signed.
32:21I would be like, and now I'm going to sing acapella for you.
32:25Like old school shit.
32:27And then they would just literally with their mouth open be like, oh, shit.
32:30She doesn't need any auto tune.
32:32I used to sing.
32:33I would rather go blind.
32:34Stop.
32:36You like get up on the chair.
32:37You're like, are you all ready to be graced with greatness?
32:41Sit down.
32:42Yes.
32:42Zara.
32:43Yeah.
32:43You have an insane voice.
32:45Thanks.
32:45Oh my God.
32:46You didn't even do a, do you do vocal warmups?
32:48You just hit it.
32:49I literally don't.
32:51I feel like the first song of the show, Midnight Sun, that is like my warm up.
32:56That'll do it.
32:57And then I, yeah.
32:58And then I just get like warm, warmed up throughout the show.
33:02I'm never going to get over that.
33:03First of all, I've also never had someone sing that loud in the Call of Duty studio.
33:07And I am, whoa.
33:10Okay.
33:12You've been touring for like 10 years.
33:14Yeah.
33:14I'm assuming you have some wild stories, like things that have happened.
33:18But okay.
33:18You're like, no.
33:19No, no.
33:19I'm doing that face because the craziest thing we do is like throw some candy wraps on the
33:24floor in the bus.
33:25Stop.
33:26Okay.
33:27What's the craziest thing that's happened on stage?
33:29Ooh.
33:31Malfunctions, disasters, people.
33:33Oh, all the time.
33:34All the time.
33:35Yeah.
33:35But that's just like that showbiz, baby.
33:38You just got to suck it up and move on.
