00:23And Colombia reaffirmed before the United Nations its political will to move forward with the full implementation of the 2016
00:29peace agreement.
00:34And the Iranian government stated on Tuesday that it will not negotiate under pressure in the face of U.S.
00:40threats regarding the personal call.
00:49Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Atrezo Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the
00:55news.
01:08Cuba has expanded the main signature for the Homeland Campaign, an initiative launched by President Miguel DĂaz-Canel BermĂşdez to
01:15support national sovereignty and promote peace.
01:17The movement follows a call made by the President to organizations in Cuba and internationally during the 65th anniversary of
01:24the Proclamation of Socialist Character of the Revolution.
01:27Authorities linked the campaign to reactions against the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade, as well as media attacks
01:34and what they describe as ongoing hybrid warfare.
01:37The campaign continues to gather signatures as part of efforts to consolidate domestic support and project Cuba's position internationally.
01:52And in Cuba, the Camilo Cienfuegos oil refinery is operating at full capacity to process 100,000 tons of Russian
01:59crude oil donated by the Russian nation to support the Cuban energy system amid a complex supply situation.
02:04More than 1,000 workers are working around the club to ensure the production of fuel, diesel, 95, 90 and
02:1383 octane gasoline, as well as liquefied petrol and gas, derivatives that will cover approximately one-third of national demand.
02:20This crude oil, which broke through the imperial blockade imposed by the United States, was initially unloaded in Matanzas and
02:28transported to Cienfuegos on several ships, with an estimated refining cycle of between 12 and 15 days.
02:34Part of the diesel will be allocated to distributed electricity generation, and the liquefied gas will prioritize critical infrastructure while
02:41the current marketing and distribution scheme to all provinces of the country is maintained.
03:05In Venezuela, the people of Bolivar State joined a national pilgrimage aimed at unifying voices for peace and the country's
03:11social well-being.
03:12The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, led Monday's pilgrimage for peace, reiterating that the march demands the definitive
03:19lifting of all sanctions imposed on the South American nation.
03:22In this regard, Rodriguez also stated that without these curves of measures, the country could continue to advance in building
03:28the prosperity that future generations deserve.
03:31In this context, the head of the legislature reiterated that Venezuelans have a long history of fighting for independence and
03:38freedom, a pillar that he confirmed remains strong.
03:41The parliamentarian also questioned a recent far-right event in Spain that promoted racist expressions against Venezuelans.
03:55The Venezuelan acting president, Jose Rodriguez, emphasized that the country is advancing in the national pilgrimage process with the aim
04:02of achieving a sanction-free Venezuela.
04:04During the inauguration of the Dr. Jose de Jesus Arroja Educational Unit following his comprehensive rehabilitation, the acting president celebrated
04:12people's participation in the large-scale pilgrimage against sanctions, stating that it is a time for reconciliation and national dialogue.
04:20In this regard, Rodriguez affirmed that the mobilization had transcended the political sphere to become a cultural and spiritual expression.
04:27The acting president also confirmed that recovered resources would be allocated to schools, hospitals, sports facilities, and essential infrastructure, as
04:35well as to strategic production that would generate income for the country and benefits for workers.
04:47And also in Venezuela, the people are moving forward with protests to unite their voices and promote the country's social
04:53welfare as part of the national pilgrimage.
04:56Acting president, Jose Rodriguez called on all political sectors this Tuesday to set aside their differences and demand an end
05:03to the unilateral coercive measures against the country in the states of Balcon and Trujillo.
05:08The great pilgrimage will cover the routes connecting the country's free regions, beginning this Sunday in Zulia, Tachin and Amazonas.
05:16The event marks a milestone in efforts toward reconciliation and the end of sanctions with the hope that Venezuela may
05:22be so free as the people demand.
05:31And in Spain, the reactions continue following the racist insults against Venezuela's acting president, Rodriguez.
05:37These events, which took place in Puerta del Sol in Madrid, could amount to a hate crime.
05:41Our correspondent, Álvaro Fragua, with the details.
05:48The events took place during a rally in support of the far-right politician Maria Corina Machado, sponsored by the
05:54neoliberal president Isabel DĂaz Ayuso, where chants such as get out monkey were heard.
05:59Directed at Venezuela's acting president, Delsi Rodriguez, Venezuelan singer Carlos Baute amplified this chants from the stage, encouraging racist insults.
06:09Today, you received the gold medal and the international medal of the community of Madrid as a sign of our
06:14support and gratitude.
06:15Reactions were not long in coming. From the left, it has been denounced that this is not an isolated incident,
06:21but rather a racist chant that could have legal and social consequences.
06:25It is not just a spontaneous shout, but what we see is that the singer pulls the microphone up and
06:30continues chanting himself, when what we are witnessing is a purely racist, hateful attitude.
06:37In Spain, Article 510 of the Penal Code defines hate crimes, including incitement to discrimination or humiliation of racial grounds.
06:45The case law of the Supreme Court has established that the humanizing insults can be punishable when they generate a
06:52climate of hostility.
06:53Inaceptable. Inaceptable. The intolerable act of racism and classism that took place this weekend in Puerto del Sol, with Carlos
07:04Baute, that tax debtor, calling Delsi Rodriguez a monkey, and being cheered on by thousands of racists and classes in
07:14Puerto del Sol.
07:16International organizations, such as the United Nations, warn that deshumanization, animalizing the person, is a strategy that facilitates violence and
07:25normalizes degrading treatment, which can lead to discrimination or physical assaults.
07:30For his part, the opposition leader did not condemn these expressions and is said so to equate the aggressor and
07:36the victim.
07:39What is evident is that there are people who insult and then are bothered when they are insulted. I do
07:44not agree with those who insult or with those who are insulted.
07:48The far right in Spain, which has threatened to ban political parties, if it comes to power at the national
07:54level, is rallying around Maria Corina Machado and don't play in what happened.
07:58Well, of course, I understand all the chants.
08:02From the Spanish government, it is criticized that Maria Corina Machado has chosen to act as an ideological leader and
08:08meet only with the far right, and the racist chants in Puerto del Sol are condemned.
08:13I can do nothing other than condemn any racist message. The squares of our country, including emblematic ones such as
08:20Puerto del Sol, are not places to hear racist and xenophobic chants.
08:25The singer Carlos Baute offers a justification that he has presented as an apology in an attempt to downplay the
08:32implications of racist expressions that could be prosecuted under the law.
08:36Álvaro Fragua, desde Madrid para Telesur.
08:40Let's now take our first break. Stay with us.
09:02Welcome back. Colombia reaffirmed before the United Nations' political will to move forward with the full implementation of the 2016
09:09Peace Agreement.
09:10This was agreed upon at the meeting held between Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio and the Special Representative of the
09:17UN Secretary General Miroslav Genka in New York.
09:21Colombia's Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the multilateral organization's support in monitoring the peace process and welcomed the Secretary
09:28General's latest report on the situation in the country.
09:31A key point discussed at the meeting was the need to strengthen the institutional mechanisms that support the implementation of
09:38the agreement.
09:45A multidimensional poverty in rural areas of Colombia continued its downward trend, standing at 22.4% in 2025, down
09:53from 24.3% in 2024, according to data from the National Administrative Department of Statistics.
09:58The 1.9% decrease over the past year means that nearly 205,000 people have escaped poverty.
10:06The decline coincides with the implementation of rural policies promoted by the government of President Gustavo Petro,
10:11in particular agrarian reform and greater social investments in rural areas.
10:16In this sense, of the 15 indicators that make up the index, 12 showed improvements, especially in access to drinking
10:22water and educational variables,
10:25while 20 of the 32 departments reported decreases, with the greatest progress in Vichara, North Santander, Cordoba and NariĂąo.
10:51The vote count in Peru advances at a deliberate pace as the National Office of Electro-Processes persists in releasing
10:57official figures with over 94.4% of the tallies already registered.
11:02The electoral process has transitioned from simple data entry to a complex legal stage overseen by special electoral juries.
11:09Exsequently, more than 6% of the records exhibit material errors, such as cross-outs or challenges, and must now
11:17undergo formal validation.
11:18In this context, the digital accounting system is temporarily unable to register these tallies while they remain under judicial review.
11:24Accordingly, this bureaucratic shift has led to a stagnation in the official percentages during the recent hours sparking attention as
11:33the nation awaits the final determination of the People's Will.
11:42And Peruvian President JosĂŠ MarĂa Balcazar stated that he remains firm in his decision not to purchase F-16 fighter
11:49jets from Washington,
11:50those denying reports that the purchase had already been finalized.
11:53The President emphasized that the circumstances have not changed and that these investments will be postponed until the new government
12:00takes office.
12:01Therefore, no purchase has been made yet.
12:03Furthermore, he reiterated that there is no pressure from his government noting that ministers must support presidential decisions.
12:16And this Monday, environmental movements launched a decisive legal offensive against the Trump Administration to hold British Petroleum's predatory deep
12:23-water drilling ambitions in the Gulf of Mexico.
12:26Furthermore, social organizations assert that the risk of a catastrophic wall control failure is six to seven times higher than
12:33permitted safety levels.
12:34Consequently, the litigation targets the recently sanctioned Caskita project slated for extreme death 400 kilometers off Louisiana's shoreline.
12:43In addition to these technical concerns, activists warned of imminent ecological danger by invoking the grim memory of the 2010
12:51Deepwater Horizon tragedy.
12:53Meanwhile, they denounced the total absence of proof regarding BP's ability to operate safely under such harsh conditions, prioritizing corporate
13:01profit over planetary life.
13:08And this Monday, an explosion and an oil wells for emergency response teams into action in Nacog, Dutchess County, Texas
13:15in Southeast United States.
13:17According to initial reports, the incident led to a large-scale deployment of emergency responders who continue to work in
13:25the area to assess the situation and contain the fire.
13:29Authorities reported that all workers have been located safely evacuated with no reports of missing persons so far.
13:36As a precautionary measure, the evacuation of residents near the affected area was also ordered while response efforts continue.
13:50And the United States administration under Donald Trump faces yet another departure of a cabinet official as Labor Secretary Lori
13:56Chavez de Remer is ousted from her post.
13:59Allegations of serious abuse of power and sexual misconduct with members of her security team appear to be the main
14:05reasons for this removal.
14:06Furthermore, her record details illicit relationships with bodyguards and the use of state resources to disguise recreational activities as official
14:14business.
14:15Furthermore, Chavez de Remer is accused of using public officials for personal errands, including the purchase of alcohol.
14:21The former official also laid a ruthless derelation agenda that stripped home care workers of the minimum wage and abolished
14:28construction safety standards.
14:30On top of that, her husband was barred from entering the apartment following allegations of sexual assault, bringing an end
14:37to a term marked by moral decline and anti-worker policies.
14:46On Monday, in Washington, D.C., dozens of U.S. military veterans were arrested after launching a bold protest inside
14:52a congressional building to denounce imperialist policies in the Middle East.
14:57The demonstrators expressed their rejection of a conflict with Iran while simultaneously condemning the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
15:04During this mobilization, comprised largely of ex-service members, participants chanted slogans demanding the recognition of consensuous objection as a
15:14fundamental right for all soldiers.
15:16Additionally, organizers emphasized the need to protect those who refuse deployment from political retaliation.
15:22Capitol Police intervened detaining multiple activists in a crackdown that reignites the global debate over Washington's interventionist role in international
15:31conflicts.
15:38In a new display of his radical rhetoric, the president of Argentina, Javier Millay, made harsh statements during his tour
15:44of Israel,
15:45asserting that there are certain cultures with which one cannot coexist.
15:49The statements, considered valid by various sectors, were used by the president to justify the war against Iran
15:56and deepen his unconditional alignment with the interests of Washington and Tel Aviv.
16:01After receiving an honorary doctorate from Bar-Land University, Millay adopted a messianic tone stating that his administration defends life
16:09while his cultural adversaries only seek to kill.
16:12The event, which at times bordered on a media spectacle set to rock and roll music, served as a platform
16:19for the Argentine president to attack journalism,
16:22labeled Karl Marx as a satanic figure, and used religious texts like the Torah to attack leftist ideas.
16:35We now have our second break. Don't go away.
17:03Welcome back.
17:04The Iranian government stated on Tuesday that it will not negotiate under pressure in the face of U.S. threats
17:10regarding the Persian Gulf.
17:11The announcement of an imminent trip by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Pakistan has not been met
17:18with a reciprocal response in Tehran.
17:20On the contrary, President Masoud Pashishkan said clearly that Iranians do not submit to the logic of force.
17:26The Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagar Ghalibaf, who is also the leader of the Iranian negotiating delegation, was even more
17:33direct in accusing President Donald Trump of imposing a siege and violating the ceasefire.
17:45And Iran described the U.S. attack on a commercial vessel as a criminal act of maritime policy that violates
17:50international law.
17:51In response to U.S. actions, Tehran reaffirmed its commitment to peace but threatened to retaliate against any attack and
17:58urged the Trump administration to avoid miscalculations regarding Iran's position.
18:02The Persian nation reaffirmed its stance of not negotiating under pressure as talks are preparing Pakistan to achieve a ceasefire
18:09between the parties to the conflict.
18:11Furthermore, it emphasized that it will not initiate new aggression provided that Washington respects Iran's sovereignty.
18:24And Pakistan is leading diplomatic efforts to get the United States to lift the naval blockade against Iran.
18:30According to regional media, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will travel to the capital of Pakistan on Tuesday
18:35to begin new talks.
18:36According to experts, the U.S. visit could mean that Washington would agree to the lifting of the blockade against
18:42Iran,
18:43which allows the free movement of Iranian ships and oil tankers without being intercepted.
18:47For its part, Tehran is demanding a public announcement of the end of maritime restrictions as a condition for moving
18:53forward with diplomatic efforts.
19:19On Monday, the student movement between the dream and the journey summoned international media in occupied Palestine to document a
19:27grassroots initiative launched within the Gaza Strip.
19:29This protest has been organized to highlight the difficult situation faced by young people who are currently stranded and unable
19:36to continue their studies abroad due to the prolonged closure of the Rafa border crossing,
19:42and aims to highlight the catastrophic humanitarian and educational impact of the border blockade.
19:48The movement also urges the authorities to allow free passages and to radically improve living and academic conditions.
19:56Furthermore, student representatives demand that each case be treated as an urgent humanitarian priority in accordance with international conventions that
20:04defend the universal right to education as a tool for liberation.
20:15During the early hours of Monday in the Philippines, a devastating blaze in Urdaneta city within the Pangasinan province claimed
20:23the life of six people.
20:24The victims consisted of three men and three women, hardly including two 11-year-old girls who were unable to
20:32flee the fire.
20:33This tragedy erupted at 2 a.m. local time in a residential kitchen and escalated rapidly, reducing two homes to
20:40ashes.
20:41According to fire protection officials, the sheer velocity of the flames trapped residents before any evacuation could begin.
20:47Although emergency units finally quelled the fire by 4.40 a.m. local time,
20:52the authorities continued a rigorous probe to uncover the exact origins of this catastrophe.
20:57Meanwhile, it remains unconfirmed whether a faulty electrical system or domestic oversight triggered the fatal outbreak in the kitchen area.
21:12And the Boko Haram terrorist group is threatening the Nigerian government to kill more than 400 people it is holding
21:19hostage if the ransom of over 2 million pounds is not paid within two days.
21:24Authorities in the northern state of Borno confirmed the ultimatum after receiving a video from the extremists.
21:30The Borno South Youth Alliance, which is acting as a mediator in the negotiations, confirmed that the total number of
21:36kidnapped people is 416, all of them women and children.
21:41In the video, the terrorists challenged security forces to attempt a forceful rescue while showing the faces of all the
21:47captives, recommending that they look closely because this might be the last time.
21:52This criminal organization carried out its first kidnapping in 2014 when abducted 300 girls from some of whom were murdered,
22:00abused and used as suicide bombers.
22:03More than 10 years later, the country continues to be plagued by this form of terror.
22:08Do not we're killed in 2014.
22:35do not technically
22:39Pope Leo XIV arrived earlier in Ecuador, Guinea, where he has held numerous activity, and he is currently visiting a
22:46psychiatric hospital.
22:47Let's go. We have live images coming direct from Ecuador, Guinea, where the Pope is addressing the people gathered. Let's
22:53listen.
22:54And the joy, the hope of knowing that we are caring for those who are in frail health.
23:09A few words that we just heard really moved me.
23:14The director said, a truly great society is not one that hides its weaknesses, but one that surrounds them with
23:22love.
23:23That is true. This is a principle of a civilization with Christian roots.
23:33For in the course of human history, Christ came to redeem and restore to full dignity those who suffer from
23:41the stigma of disability.
23:47However, the Savior does not wish to, nor can he, save us without our cooperation, both on a personal and
23:54social level.
23:56Therefore, he asks us to love our brothers and sisters, not just in words, but also in deeds.
24:07A facility such as this, with God's help and everyone's commitment, can become a sign of the civilization of love.
24:17Mr. Pedro Celestino, who chose to conclude with a touching remark.
24:26Thank you for loving us just as we are.
24:30And I say to him, thank you for your witness.
24:36Thank you to all of you for being here, for giving your testimony.
24:41A sign of being here in this place, a place of authentic love.
24:50Yes, God loves us just as we are.
24:54In reality, only God truly loves us just as we are.
24:58But he does not intend for us to stay that way.
25:03God does not want us to remain sick forever.
25:06He wants to heal us.
25:08He wants to give us the grace to help us, to heal the wounds that we carry.
25:17This is seen in the gospel time and time again.
25:20Jesus came to love us just as we are.
25:23Yet he does not want us to stay that way, but rather to care for us.
25:32A hospital, especially one with a Christian mission, is a place where a person is welcomed
25:36just as they are, and respected in their frailty,
25:43so that they can be helped to get better according to a holistic vision.
25:52For this, the spiritual dimension is essential, and I was very pleased that the director emphasized
25:57this point.
26:01Thank you to Mr. Tarsicio for his poem.
26:06I would like to say that in an environment such as this, many hidden poems are composed every
26:13day, not with words, but with small gestures, with thoughtfulness and kindness, and your relationships
26:23We were listening to some statements of Pope Leo XIV here visiting the Jean-Pierre Oli Psychiatric
26:31Hospital, having a moment of change with the patients and with the staff that works here,
26:35and he was thanking them for all the hard work and also calling on them, spreading the message
26:38of love, peace, and coexistence that has been spreading over his apostolic journey.
26:45As we were saying before, Pope Leo XIV arrived in Equatorial Guinea on the fourth and final
26:51stop on his apostolic journey to Africa, and there he has called for the legacy of Pope Francis
26:58to be carried a year after his predecessor's death.
27:01The Supreme Pontiff declared that Pope Francis gave so much to the Church through his life,
27:06his words, and his deeds that he fostered a genuine respect for all men and women.
27:11Leo XIV urged people to pray for him, noting that we should thank God for the life and legacy
27:19of his predecessor.
27:20Also, this Tuesday, a Mass was held before at the Basilica of Santa Maria Magna in Italy,
27:27in memory of his death.
27:29Pope Leo landed in Equatorial Guinea as the final stop on his trip to Africa, where he will
27:34travel throughout the country to meet with the faithful, concluding his day with a meeting
27:39between bishops and priests.
27:47One of the main reasons for the proliferation of armed conflict is the exploitation of oil
27:53and mineral resources without regard for international law or the right of people to self-determination.
28:04These same new technologies seem to be designed and used primarily for military purposes and
28:11in contexts that do not allow for the growing opportunities of all to be recognized.
28:17Un aumento de oportunidades para todos.
