01:10and on tuesday morning the 21st plenary meeting of the 80th session of the united nations general
01:14assembly is currently debating the resolution necessity of ending the economic commercial
01:19and financial blockade imposed by united states against cuba several representatives of the
01:23international community reiterated rejection of the blockade which has been characterized as a
01:27violation of international law and the principles of the chart of the united nations since 1992 the
01:33u.n has consecutively approved resolutions calling for an end to the blockade this is the 34th time cuba
01:39has presented such a resolution to the international organization however the united states rejected
01:44these claims intensifying the economic oppression on the island the resolution will be put to a boot
01:48by u.n member states on wednesday october 29th
01:57in this scenario and on behalf of the association of southeast asian nations the representative of
02:01singapore burhan gafur urged the united states to lift the blockade against cuba and to remove the island
02:06from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism i joined the members of this assembly in reiterating our call
02:15for the united states to lift its unilateral economic commercial and financial embargo against cuba
02:26as soon as possible and to delist cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism
02:35and for his part the permanent representative of barbados the u.n on behalf of the caribbean community
02:40caricom francois jackman also offer statements regarding cuba situation in the face of the u.s
02:45brigade the unilateral economic commercial and financial embargo imposed by the united states of
02:52america against the republic of cuba remains a clear violation of the u.n charter and international law
03:00for more than three decades the general assembly guided by the charter has spoken with clarity
03:07and consistency this embargo must end caricom therefore deeply regrets that despite the near universal
03:17calls of the international community the embargo continues
03:25the chinese government urged the united states to stop its attempts to order mine peace and stability in
03:29the caribbean region chinese foreign ministry spokesperson while yakun said he was aware of the statement

07:41commercial embargo imposed by the united states of america against cuba to vote for cuba is to vote for
07:50the culture of life and against the industry of death to vote for cuba is to vote for the right of all nations to
07:58to build their own destiny cuba is not alone because the solidarity of peoples is stronger than any

10:15increasingly scarce tensions are high and diplomacy is fracturing we must commit to being constructive
10:24we are at a critical juncture where multilateralism is no longer being deferred to as our first port of call
10:34and the legal frameworks that underpin our global order are under strain yet st vincent's and the grenadines
10:42remains hopeful that good sense and principled engagement will prevail it is in this hopeful spirit that we renew
10:50our call for the unconditional lifting of the embargo against cuba as a first step to creating the conditions
10:58conducive for engagement between our two friends we urge both parties to engage constructively to prevent
11:07a further deterioration of the situation as a good friend of both the united states of america and cuba

13:15and hurricane melissa burst down on the caribbean region without making any landfall yet leaving nine people
13:20dead so far in the region and 13 injured in jamaica three people were reported dead while haiti has registered
13:26five deaths and one casualty was accounted for in the dominican republic the category five storm is
13:32currently fewer than 64 kilometers from landfall in kingston and is expected to make contact on
13:37tuesday afternoon and across southeastern cuba on wednesday morning with maximum sustained winds near
13:42280 kilometers per hour according to the u.s national hurricane center by moving very slowly or remaining
13:48almost stationary it can bring continuous torrential rains increasing the danger of flash floods
13:54and landslides melissa will be the most powerful hurricane to hit the region since hurricane
13:58gilbert in 1988 and threatens to cause extensive damage to infrastructure
14:10and melissa has prompted the evacuation of over 650 000 citizens in the eastern part of cuba as it
