00:0033 people were each sentenced to 10 months jailed by the High Court today
00:05for rioting with weapons at an entertainment outlet in Chiras earlier this month.
00:12Justice Aslam Zainuddin, who conducted a revision proceeding under Section 323 of the Criminal Procedure Code,
00:19said the custodial sentences were imposed after hearing submissions from both defense lawyers and the prosecution.
00:26He said the sentence is in addition to the punishment meted out by the magistrate.
00:32Defense lawyer Damien Chan applied for a stay-of-sentence pending an appeal to the Court of Appeal,
00:37with the judge noting they must first obtain leave to appeal.
00:41Aslam also issued a warrant of arrest against A. Gunnison for failing to attend the proceedings.
00:48Earlier, the magistrate's court had fined most of the accused after they pleaded guilty,
00:53but the High Court later called for a revision to review the sentencing.
