00:00A former IT consultant who caused the death of a bank manager in a road rage incident six years ago

00:06had his sentence reduced from 16 years to 12 after the federal court allowed his appeal on sentence.

00:14A three-member bench chaired by Justice Nordin Hassan said

00:18the original jail term imposed on Yu Weiliang by the High Court and affirmed by the Court of Appeal was excessive.

00:25Lawyer N. Sivan Nantan told reporters that Yu 47 should be freed in 2027

00:31after taking into account a one-third remission given to prisoners for good behavior.

00:37The bench, which also includes Justices Vazir Alam Maidin Meera and Lee Sui Seng,

00:43earlier dismissed Yu's appeal to be sentenced for a lesser charge of causing death without intention.

00:49The bench also disallowed the prosecution's cross-appeal that he be convicted of murder,

00:55which would give judges the discretion to impose the death penalty or up to 40 years in jail

01:00and a minimum 12 strokes of the rotan.

01:03Yu was initially charged with murder after repeatedly running into site Daniel Said Shakir 29

01:09on the North-South Expressway near Bandar Baru Bangi on August 10, 2019, resulting in his death at the scene.
