00:00Hello everyone, it is good to be here with you guys. My name is William Chambers.
00:04It's great to be with people who love to study the Word of God. Today we're going to look in
00:08the Word of God and we're going to look at what we should recognize when God takes everything.
00:15Has God ever took something from you? Have you ever lost something? You can't go through this
00:21life without losing some stuff, stuff that you thought you should have had. Today we're going
00:26to look at a text out of the life of Job when God had took so much from Job. Let's
00:33look at the text
00:34and said, naked came I out of my mother's womb and naked shall I return thither. The Lord came and
00:40the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Now what you believe about God does not
00:47show
00:47up when everything's going good in your life. What you believe about God shows up in your attitudes
00:52and in what you say when your life is collapsing. And we're looking at Job's life as it is collapsing.
01:01God, Job had just lost his children, all of his children in the same day. Oh God, I can't even
01:08imagine that. And at the same time, he lost all of his monetary gain. All of his livelihood was gone
01:15all in the same day. Job knew what it was to experience loss in his life.
01:23But before God ever said something to Job, we get to see what Job thought. We get to see what
01:29Job said.
01:30The Bible says that Job recognized the truth. He recognized the truth and he recognized that he needed
01:37to praise God. I hope that in my worst moments, because life has a way of squeezing us when it
01:43takes
01:44stuff from us, when calamity hits us. But I hope in my worst moments, I recognize the truth of God
01:50and recognize my need to praise him. Job had recognized some truth. He had recognized the
01:56reality of his human frailty. He said, naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked shall I return
02:01thither. He basically recognized he did an honest assessment and he said, when I came into this world,
02:09there was nothing that I had earned. There was nothing that I was deserving. There was nothing that
02:13was guaranteed unto me. I was entitled to nothing when I came into this world. And he said, and I'm
02:18exit that same way. He recognized that God was the giver and God was the governor. He said, he said,
02:26God give it and God take it away. It is God that placed it in your hand in the first
02:30place. He
02:31recognized that the same God that had given him blessings is the same sovereign hand that'll take
02:37things away. And he charged loss with God. And he didn't charge evil to God. God caused this loss in
02:45my life. And God is not evil. Blessed be the name of the Lord. This helps us because it is
02:53not chaos
02:53that hits your life and all things are going wrong. It is not chance or happenstance that just hits your
03:00life and everything's going wrong. It's not just an act of cruelty that hits your life. No,
03:04God is the giver. And God was the one that took it away, whatever it is. And we need to
03:09know that
03:09to persevere, that my hands, that God's hands extends into my suffering. And God has something
03:17to do with it. If God has something to do with it, I'll trust his character. This kind of stuff
03:21holds us steady. God give it. God take it away. Naked I came. Naked I will return. Recognizing truth
03:29about our own human frailty. Now recognizing truth about the sovereignty of God. It'll help you
03:35persevere in loss and in suffering. Help us today, O God. Help us to have the right attitude. And the
03:41last thing I want to talk about that Job had was he had the right response to God. Job, he
03:46worshiped
03:47God despite his circumstances. He said, the Lord give it. The Lord take it away. Blessed be the name of
03:53the
03:54Lord. He gave God some worship despite his circumstances. And this was faith at his highest
04:00altitude. Oh goodness. To praise God in the midst of your ashes. When everything burns down and
04:06collapses. Oh God. When your world comes to a, when your world seems to be coming to an end, to
04:11still
04:12be able to give God praise. He worshiped God because he trusted God's character. I trust you,
04:19O God. He worshiped God and he didn't wait for God to restore everything. He said, I'm going to
04:23worship you now. You are still good to me now. No matter what happened, God is still good in my
04:28life. It don't matter. That should be our attitude. He gave God worship. I don't know if you've lost
04:35something. I don't know if tragedy has hit your life, but Job knew how to have the right response
04:40before God in the midst of tragedy. This kind of worship was costly because he's worshiping God in the
04:47midst of grief. Oh, I'm grieving God. I'm hurting, but blessed be unto God. The old people used to say,
04:55give God a thank you anyhow praise. Job gave God a thank you anyhow praise. I don't have all the
05:04answers. I'm in grief, God, but I'm going to praise you. I don't know what's going on in my life,
05:09God, but I'm going to praise you. I don't know if you're going to restore me or not, God, but
05:13I'm going
05:13to praise you. Oh God, I'm vulnerable before you. I'm out of control right now of my circumstances,
05:19but God, I'm going to praise you. That's what Job did. Help us to have that attitude. Lord,
05:25help me in the midst of despair to be able to praise you. This kind of worship became a resistance
05:32to things like despair. I'm going to worship God because I don't want to despair in my life.
05:37I'm going to worship God to resist bitterness. Oh, I'm going to worship God because I don't want
05:44to look at God like something he's not. I don't want to distort the theology of God. I'm going to
05:48worship you, God. You're still good. I'm going to worship God so that I don't be consumed by pain.
05:54This worship protected Job from being poisoned by his circumstances. Job had the right views about God,
06:04which helped him persevere in pain. He had the right views about human frailty.
06:09Naked I came in. Naked shall I return. I am totally dependent all of my life on God.
06:15And he had the right views about God and his sovereignty. He said that God is still sovereign.
06:22He gives and he governs. This is not a happenstance that happened in my life. God gives and he governs.
06:27And he had the right soul response. He gave worship to God. May we understand these truths about God
06:35and respond to loss and tragedy in our life like Job did. In Jesus name I pray and say. Amen.
06:46We have just heard the word of God. I pray that the Lord will continue to guide you. That he
06:53will grow
06:53you in the faith and that he will make us all stable in the faith. Please help us Jesus to
06:59grow
07:00together. Until we meet again, God bless you all.
