00:00Hello everyone, my name is William Chambers. It is good to be here with you all today.
00:05If I had a title for today's topic, I would call it, Don't Be Quiet, Finish Loud for God.
00:15No matter who you are, young or old, you have work to be doing for God the whole way.
00:22Oh, that's what the text is talking about today. Let us get into it.
00:25The Bible says, Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not, until I have
00:32showed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to everyone that is to come.
00:39This psalmist is saying, Lord, I need you by me in my old age, when I am old and gray,
00:47so I can finish the mission that you have put before me.
00:51This prayer, this plea right here, is the cry of a believer who understands that the final seasons of his
00:58life is not a time to retreat.
01:01It's not a time to chill out. It's not a time to retire.
01:04He has a faith that refuses to retire. Oh, goodness.
01:08He recognizes that this last season, when I got this old gray hair on my head, is a responsibility this
01:16season, no matter what season you're in, all the way up to the last season of your life.
01:22If you are a believer, you should be loud for God.
01:26He's saying, I'm old, but now is the time for usefulness.
01:29Now, also, when I am old and gray-headed, he's saying, also, meaning that all throughout my life, you have
01:38been faithful to me, God.
01:40Be faithful unto me now. I want to be used now, no matter what season you're in.
01:46Aging does not cancel assignments.
01:49He is gray-headed, meaning that he's experienced.
01:53And gray hair is a mark of that experience.
01:56But the marking of your gray head should not silence you from declaring the goodness of God.
02:05This text right here does not tolerate the idea that growing old means growing irrelevant.
02:11Just because we're growing older and I'm growing older and more mature, I am not irrelevant at all.
02:17In many ways, this text is stating exactly the opposite.
02:21This text is telling us that aged believers have their greatest sermons still ahead of them.
02:30What do I mean by that?
02:31What I mean by that is your theology is the clearest.
02:34Or your understanding of God is the clearest when you have walked with God for a while.
02:39Oh, when you have gray hair and you have walked with God for a while, your faith has been tested.
02:48I can speak more clearly of God now than I ever could in my younger age.
02:53Oh, goodness.
02:54Your greatest sermon, aged believer, is still ahead of you.
03:00This psalmist's greatest fear was not death.
03:02It was divine silence.
03:03Lord, I need to hear you now.
03:06I need your presence in my life now.
03:08Oh, God, if I'm going to complete my mission, I need you.
03:12And we need to know that if we're going to do anything for God,
03:15we're going to need the presence of God in our life.
03:18Without the presence of God in our life, everything, our life becomes hollow.
03:23Our life becomes shallow.
03:25Oh, goodness.
03:26Help me, God.
03:27Lord, I need your presence because without you, my life becomes less meaningful.
03:32I want my life to be more purposeful.
03:34And it's only that way when your presence is in my life, I do not want to draw back from
03:39you.
03:39Lord, don't draw back from me.
03:41This psalmist says, forsake me not until I have shown thy strength unto this generation
03:48and thy power to everyone that is to come.
03:51He said, I have work to do for you.
03:54God, don't forsake me because I need you.
03:57I want to display your strength to this generation.
04:01Oh, if you got old and gray hair, you should still be displaying the strength of God,
04:06what he has done in your life, how he has moved in your life.
04:08You should still be displaying the power of God, what he has brought you through by his power.
04:15My.
04:16He said, I want to show thy strength unto this generation, to the generation currently,
04:21the one that's behind me.
04:23I want to show the strength to this generation.
04:25But I also want to show your strength to those who are yet to come,
04:29meaning those who have not even been born yet.
04:33He said, I want to preach to those that are not even here.
04:37I want them to know about who you are.
04:39I want to testify of your goodness to those that are not even here,
04:42meaning he had a faith that looked forward beyond his life to those who wasn't even here yet.
04:48How do you preach to those who ain't here yet?
04:51Oh, you preach to your children.
04:53And then it goes to their children.
04:55And you preach to your, you preach to younger people.
04:58And they preach that same gospel that you preach to other people.
05:02He said, don't forsake me until I have shown thy strength unto this generation and the power to everyone that
05:08is to come.
05:09I want to put you on display, God.
05:13And I need you to do that.
05:15So this psalmist is, this psalmist is concerned about what is echoing behind him.
05:22It ought to be the gospel.
05:24It ought to be what God has done.
05:26Should be echoing behind us.
05:28You ought to be concerned believer.
05:31This psalmist said, no, I'm not done yet.
05:34And I'm going to need you because I'm not done yet.
05:37I believe that I owe the next generation.
05:39I owe them the declaration of who you are.
05:43I owe them, they need to hear it from me, what you have done through the decades of my life.
05:48Oh, goodness, goodness.
05:50The gospel itself is a strength and the power of God that is to be declared from generation to generation.
05:59This psalmist desired to preach to people the gospel who was not even here yet.
06:07This psalmist had gray hair, but he refused to let his gray hair mute the gospel.
06:13There is no retirement here.
06:16You should have a faith that refuses to retire.
06:19Don't.
06:20He said, I'm not going to be quiet.
06:21I'm not going to let my gray hair make me quiet.
06:24I'm going to finish loud for God.
06:29Your gray hair shouldn't mute the gospel.
06:30It should amplify the gospel.
06:32But because now your theology and your understanding of God is more powerful, more clearer than it has ever been
06:38in your life.
06:39Lord, help us, oh God, to not be quiet, but to finish loud for you.
06:46God bless you all.
06:53I want to thank you all for your prayers and support.
06:58It means more to me than you guys know.
07:03Great is our God.
07:04Let us continue to grow his word and the riches of his grace.
07:10In Jesus name.
07:11Amen.
07:19Amen.
07:20Amen.
07:21Amen.
07:25Amen.
07:28Amen.
07:29Amen.
07:29Amen.
07:33Amen.
