The Edinburgh 500 community is reeling.. following the shooting death of a 32-year-old woman at Balmoral Park: Shanice Morris...in her son's presence.
The incident also left her partner, Keon Alexander, and another man injured.

The couple are founding members of the Edinburgh 500 Sports and Arts Society. Rynessa Cutting has the story.

00:00There was a solemn disquiet over the Edinburgh 500 Recreation Grounds in Chaguanas today.
00:06Following Friday's vicious gun attack a few streets away,
00:10which left the Secretary of the Sports and Dance Society dead
00:14and the group's founder, Kian Alexander, nursing injuries.
00:18At the grounds today, coaches of various football groups expressed shock and disbelief over the incident.
00:25Is she about community development? Yeah. She will always try to start sports.
00:32Well, the community is a place where it's always activities.
00:37When it's not football, it's cricket, it's basketball, it's our sports day, right?
00:47We have a lot of activities and she has been all.
00:51She has been all. So she always is trying to uplift the whole community.

01:00It was shocking. It was shocking.
01:03Another member of the group told TV6 News the attack was effectively not just against Morris
01:09and the group's founder, Kian Alexander, but against the entire community.
01:15As he says, the organization plays a central role in Edinburgh 500,
01:20with dozens of children benefiting from the activities.
01:24He tells TV6 while he does not know the motive for the attack,
01:28he hopes it is not linked to the society's operations.
01:31He notes there is currently a Masters tournament in progress with three categories,
01:36the finals for which are set for June,
01:39with cash prizes up to $10,000 to be won.
01:43The future of the tournament and the community's sporting activities are now in limbo.
01:49According to a TTPS report,
01:51just after seven last night,
01:54a masked assailant exited a silver Nissan Silphi
01:57and opened fire on Morris,
01:59Alexander and another man identified as a member of the defense force.
02:05Police recovered 16 casings,
02:08one of which carried official regiment markings,
02:11as well as seven projectiles.
02:14Alexander sustained only superficial wounds
02:17and refused to be taken for medical treatment.
02:21Morris' six-year-old son, who was seated in her vehicle,
02:24was physically unharmed.
02:26Meantime, police are said to be following a lead
02:29connected to the shooting death of Alexander's brother, Jelani Williams,
02:34also a soldier,
02:35who was shot and killed in Edinburgh 500 last month.
02:40Investigations continue into both incidents.
