00:11good morning welcome to the myers report fast 15 it is friday april 17th 2026 the s&p 500 this
00:21morning hit a new record of 71 33 the 30-year fixed rate home mortgages are now down to 6
00:29.3
00:29the 10-year treasury is back down to 423 and as of this morning west texas intermediate oil prices
00:38fell 30 that's in the last 10 days the financial markets obviously are expecting success uh the
00:47u.s will have success very soon in iran we are also getting word that iran's fanatical leadership
00:53is getting desperate our sources in russia tell us that some of the leaders are moving to russia
00:59but more are going to azerbaijan however those left behind will be fearing for their lives
01:05families of tens of thousands of people that have been killed by these people will want revenge
01:12this is real desperation and this could hold up a peace process and when we do get a peace process
01:19it's going to be it's going to be difficult there will be challenges to it because these people
01:25simply don't want to die which i understand but they shouldn't have killed everybody else
01:30okay with us today we have don day our weather forecaster the only one i know who is accountable
01:39which is why he's so good and of course we have dr robert janetsky our chief economist
01:48who gives an analysis of why the economy is or isn't isaac isa our expert on logistics is
01:57in transit coming back from washington dc after spending several days with legislators i hope that
02:03wasn't too painful for him okay don last week the weather was dull and pouring so you left us
02:10does that mean that uh weather wise something is now happening yeah that does actually uh we're
02:16we're gonna have we're gonna have some severe weather here over the next couple of days in
02:21in the middle part of the country as a strong cold front comes out of the rockies uh the dodgers
02:26and
02:26the colorado rockies will be playing in snow uh oh is that in snow and yeah how much snow
02:33just enough to to make some highlight newsreels and sports center tonight um but we we we do see
02:42the ups and downs of springs coming our way uh and it does look like the end of april and
02:46early may
02:46is going to bring a wide variety of weather uh to the lower 48 there's still plenty of cold air
02:53that could come out of canada and and i do see the northeast part of the united states maybe the
02:57great
02:58lakes region having some episodes of cool wet weather we've had a lot of rain
03:02um in portions of the great lakes uh wisconsin minnesota even some flooding from not only the
03:09rain but from the the snow melt that has left the ground really soggy in some of those areas
03:15okay in mid april we're already into mid april uh the obvious question is is this the last week that
03:21i wear my winter hat or are we done with the cold weather yet no i think you need to
03:27keep your hat
03:27handy for another week or two you know may may can throw some surprises and curveballs and i
03:32expect it to um things could really change on a dime this time of year and i think may
03:38has that that option so dress in layers don't put away all the winter clothes just yet
03:44is isaac gave me that that summer hat and he's i'm hurting his feelings when i don't wear it but
03:50it's a summer hat uh is it too soon to ask about hurricanes i know it isn't and and there's
03:57going to be
03:58some talk coming out about the hurricane season because out in the pacific we're seeing a development
04:03of an el nino pattern where the the subtropical waters near the equator get warmer the el nino
04:09pattern tends to suppress hurricanes it doesn't mean there won't be any there still will be hurricane
04:15activity but an el nino pattern does not favor um a big upsurge in hurricanes in fact a lot of
04:23times it
04:23leads to a bit of a decrease so that could play a role as we get into hurricane season it
04:29may
04:29lessen the impact of hurricane formation in the atlantic um and in the gulf region however
04:37an el nino means an increase in hurricanes in the pacific uh and so that's something that will
04:45will monitor throughout the course of the season as we get closer you know we were always talking about
04:50the damage that hurricanes do but we've never asked about the other other obvious question
04:57are hurricanes good for anyone or anything yeah well they are good you know hurricanes serve a
05:03purpose they serve a role in the balance of the atmosphere the reason we get hurricanes is
05:07the atmosphere is trying to strike a balance and so when we have a lot of heat and moisture build
05:13up
05:13things get out of equilibrium so what a hurricane does is try to bring the atmosphere back to
05:19equilibrium so a hurricane has a job now the end result for some is bad but that job is to
05:26get
05:26the atmosphere back into equilibrium and it does produce a lot of rainfall that some parts of the
05:31world do count on so hurricanes can bring bad but there's nothing we can do to stop them and they
05:37do
05:37serve a purpose you know it's interesting i can't recall anybody ever explaining the the positive side
05:45of occurring hurricane at all as well as you did oh dr bob yes stocks are hitting all-time highs
05:56oil prices
05:57are back down interest rates are coming are going lower why is that happening well you know we've been
06:07very optimistic on these shows for quite a while now and the optimism continued even though we went to war
06:15and we appeared to have just a colossal disruption in the economy due to the high oil prices
06:23fortunately for us we believe that this was temporary and that we should look for the benefits that were
06:30going to come as a result of just a tremendously effective strategic plan on the part of president
06:37trump and the strategic plan is to eliminate many of the uh disruptions that were facing the u.s economy
06:45as a result of terrorism particularly the terrorism that came out of iran and all that's working out
06:51really well the uh just this morning the iranians said that the strait is now open well this follows of
06:59course the u.s sending two warships through the strait to clear out mines turns out there weren't any
07:06mines there uh they couldn't find one and they said iran had just no mines now mining the strait
07:12but also now the u.s ships are in the strait and we can uh basically clear keep it clear
07:19the one thing
07:20that we had feared was a possibility of iran attacking those ships that has not occurred and i think the
07:27only reason it hasn't occurred is because iran is now ready either for peace or basically to escape the
07:34country if they're the leaders and the head of the revolutionary guard because they uh it's not going
07:42to be a very pleasant thing for them when the rest of the iranians and the uh military all look
07:49around
07:49and see what this leadership has done to them and to their country so i think all of our optimism
07:55has
07:55been justified um we're still going to have bumps in the road the economy is um you know right now
08:02there are no clear signals on the economy gary right now uh if you look at some of the reports
08:08it looks like hey march was really good and uh this is of course what we had anticipated other reports
08:15say no the economy has slowed and you're going to see it continued slowing in april and may perhaps
08:22as if these oil prices jump back up again but on balance everything is moving in the uh in the
08:30right
08:30direction the mixed up economic data some good some bad are characteristic of major changes in the
08:37economy and we continue to believe that those changes are all in the right direction
08:43well this do you see the stock market uh continuing to rise well i do uh and i think uh
08:50the momentum now
08:52has built up so strong but the odds are very high that in the near term we're going to continue
08:57to see
08:58this market rise we have our short-term momentum model and this model interestingly uh of course
09:07responds to major events and the major event um prior to april 8th was that we were concerned about
09:17the war and all the pressure was in a downward direction on april 8th in one day we went from
09:25a negative one which is mildly bearish reading on momentum to a plus five which is as bullish as
09:34you get in one day and that was a signal that there had been a only a one day change
09:40momentum but
09:41interestingly enough it was a one day change in the right direction and our momentum model has stayed
09:47at that maximum plus five maximum bullish condition uh ever since so we're now in the eighth day in a
09:56row
09:56uh the momentum has built tremendously and usually when momentum builds uh you don't get a downturn in
10:04the stock market so at the current time things are certainly looking good do you see any uh additional
10:09positive impact coming when people start are starting to get their tax refunds um i think we've had a mild
10:18positive income uh indication the uh the problem is uh the high oil prices have really uh hurt people
10:28and we even had some indication that living standards were going down in february and march and that was
10:37before the war and they continue to go down in march and probably will continue to go down in april
10:43as
10:44well that's a negative the offset to that is we've got some earnings reports coming on it's just the
10:50start of the earnings season and i'm expecting and we're expecting very strong earnings reports not
10:57only good profits but also projections that profits are going to be strong as we go forward through the
11:04rest of the year and into next year so that would be a very positive factor that offsets i i
11:11don't think
11:12the returns the income tax returns are are that significant in the scheme of things but i think
11:18the earnings are the housing market how's it looking is it still as bad as it's been yeah and the
11:25the
11:25market the new homework new homes from the standpoint of builders building new homes and this is important
11:32because that's usually a very reliable early indicator that's been in a depression for quite
11:38a while and the latest numbers we got from early april say that the depression got even worse in
11:44the new home market there are gobs of inventories out there um so we're not seeing the strength in new
11:51homes that you usually see at the beginning of an upturn and that's that's a little disturbing we'd like to
11:57see
11:57that however if interest rates and oil prices continue to decline as they have been then we
12:04should start to see some signs of a pickup in housing and i do expect that that's going to come
12:09on but it's
12:10going to take a while okay our question of the day don day does the save america act for voting
12:19reform
12:19get passed what do you think um i'm not i'm not optimistic i i think it's it's not going to
12:27you know this is an outgrowth of the 2005 carter baker commission which called for all the reforms that
12:34are in the save act uh bob are you optimistic no i'm not i'm not optimistic on that passing either
12:42i know we've we've had some people have testified that they are very optimistic i hope you're right
12:48uh i just can't see um that passing given the opposition in congress to it well i'm going to
12:58disagree with you i'm going to remain optimistic i think it will get passed and i hope you're right
13:03i hope so too because i think that the public the public really wants it and uh i mean to
13:11the tune of
13:12about 80 percent or more okay with that don going forward in general are you optimistic or pessimistic
13:20for the coming year well i'm i'm optimistic especially here what's recently happened and
13:25you know i just want to bring up one point about the this iran middle east situation one thing i
13:29don't
13:29think is getting enough attention is this leban lebanon israel peace talks and sounds like lebanon might
13:36want to be done with hezbollah and i think this is part of the plan and if that happens
13:41that i think that's good news for everybody so i'm optimistic right don bob i agree i think we are
13:49on the verge of a massive move in the direction of peace throughout the middle east the lebanon
13:55situation is just the first sign of it the fact that the hoodies are backing down and not disrupting
14:01activity and now that iran is just that much weaker i i see peace not only spreading through the
14:09middle east but i also believe that we're seeing an awful lot of indications that the war in the ukraine
14:15is going to be coming to an end pretty soon uh peace is breaking out all over and that's going
14:21to be
14:21very good for the u.s i agree i am very optimistic in general i believe in our country with
14:30that i want
14:30to say thank you be well stay safe have a good weekend and god bless america
