00:11good morning welcome to the myers report friday fast 15 it is june 11th 2026 and the year is
00:19almost gone well we have here today uh don day our weather guru and isaq isa is back
00:29with uh his report on logistics uh we are back from the myers report annual convention that we
00:37had in lincolnshire which turned out really well and uh don day our balloon weatherman in the sky
00:46you had a big week you safely got a trio of brave people across the atlantic with a good landing
00:54on
00:55sunday in europe uh can you tell us about it yeah i have to tell you i've i've been involved
01:00in a lot
01:00of projects a lot of aviation projects as you know and some are harder than others this this ranks up
01:07with one of the more difficult ones to have three people in an open air basket go across the north
01:12atlantic um and and travel over 3 200 miles um and we had several weather challenges we had icing we
01:22had snow we had rain we had some thunderstorms we had to navigate around and we were preciously low
01:31on resources as we approached the european continent so it was it was very busy very labor intensive but
01:38also wildly successful they got across the atlantic in record time uh just under three days just under
01:4672 hours we were expecting it to take five days it could have been really bad if some of the
01:53weather
01:53that hit this past week had hit them it would have been a disaster right yeah i mean the kids
02:01were
02:01taking a look at the uh tracker the first thing my oldest son goes is dad there's no steering wheels
02:08on there are there so so we actually looked into it and we were we learned something new there you
02:15go
02:16great different levels and it moves yeah different directions very interesting very right you know and
02:22so there were several times we had to adjust our altitudes there you go and one thing we had to
02:27do
02:28that we didn't really want to do we had to send them up to 24 25 000 feet which requires
02:33obviously
02:34full-time oxygen it dropped to 17 degrees below zero up there and they were at those altitudes for for
02:41geez about 18 hours but we needed to do that to get around some weather but that's part of the
02:47adventure
02:47right and you know one thing that uh uh happened at the end is they did land in luxembourg uh
02:54early
02:54sunday morning and uh beautiful what we call stand-up landing and i found out that uh the luxembourg
03:02authorities showed up and detained the pilots because they entered the country uh not the way
03:09you're supposed to you're supposed to go through a border crossing not arrive in the air but funny story
03:15yes they were detained however um it ended up okay because they ended up meeting the grand duke
03:24of luxembourg invited them to the palace
03:30so so all all's well that ends well it was it was wildly successful so technically they were illegal
03:37aliens briefly yes um and the pilots weren't mad they actually said hey a country that that values its
03:45borders that's good yes uh we had a rough week in weather this week and particularly yesterday can you
03:53tell us what happened and how else so this is one of these severe weather events that was you could
03:58really easily see coming uh we had an unusually strong low pressure system in southern canada that
04:05brought in a really strong cool front and as it marched across the nation it produced as we all know
04:12it produced a derecho which is the a strong line of very strong winds then we had all the tornadoes
04:19and
04:19severe weather across the midwest yesterday today the severe weather is going to be along the east coast
04:24and the mid-atlantic um this was a a system that you sometimes get in the month of june that
04:31can cause
04:31widespread severe weather over a lot of geography this is one reason why may and june tend to be
04:38the the times a year when you see severe weather like this isaac how did this weather impact you
04:44and your trucks oh my god we had uh yeah i woke up at 12 30 to a uh one
04:49of our truck drivers had a
04:50rollover an i-65 in walcott indiana uh he was trapped in the truck he had to be cut out
04:57the truck
04:58luckily no serious injuries but uh but yeah it's uh it's a dangerous situation i'm used to driving
05:05all around the country there are only two road highways in the country that scare me at least in
05:11winter or because of the potential for severe weather i-65 is one of them you can get hit with
05:17crosswinds and you don't know what's on the ground it can be hidden uh so don what should we expect
05:23for
05:24next week well the good news is is that we're going to have a little bit of a respite here
05:28you tend to
05:29get drier stable air coming in behind these fronts so a lot of the midwest will have several days of
05:36actually very comfortable temperatures and low humidity um eventually we'll see the moisture
05:41return but it's going to be five six days or a little longer before that happens so um calm after
05:47the storm so to speak oh so we're good we're not going to have any really rough weather for the
05:51next
05:52week for the next yeah i would say at least the next five days okay isaac on the logistics front
05:59our early warning system on the economy uh freight traffic was up last week how good was it
06:07the storms are brewing and it's not just the weather that don reported yeah it's uh it's bonkers uh volume
06:14is up capacity is down it is the perfect storm for carriers who have a survived the four-year-long
06:21freight recession and b operate a legal uh trucking operation and understand that compliance and
06:29safety is absolutely critical so uh we're having it we're having a good time uh gary um again
06:37after a four-year-long freight recession okay from what i understand uh freight on a euro over year
06:45basis was up significantly but seven right now it's up 7.8 percent but in some markets it's even up
06:52north
06:52of 10 percent houston is recording 11 percent chicago right now is right about that nine percent
06:58long beach california is in the neighborhood of that seven eight percent but every major market
07:03across north america right now is experiencing not only growth but again the biggest key here is now
07:09we've got the growth that finally came into place for the last six months the industry's been itching up
07:14because the capacity exodus that's taking place and both of these now here in the last couple of weeks
07:20have come to a head in the most perfect way possible how's the intermodal activity as uh people are
07:29shipping more product by rail that long distance than truck because of fuel costs yeah it's it's it's
07:37everything i just stated right so demand is up across the board capacity is down and on the intermodal
07:43side to exactly what you just said gary we're getting more and more market share from truckload because
07:49of the rising fuel cost um yeah volume is up volume is up and we expect this uh we expect
07:56this to be a
07:57prolonged up cycle uh we're already surpassing covid rates and we're only i'd say 30 to 45 days into this
08:05um what i think so so our industry like many but you know we go through these different waves and
08:11and what we see a lot when we go through these downturns capacity leaves the market but when things start
08:18to itch up and even a little bit we just get so much capacity that floods the industry i think
08:23there's a significant difference in this up cycle um the last four years burned a lot of people hurt a
08:30lot of people uh we don't see trucking companies and truck drivers jumping back into the truck driving
08:37seat as quick uh as quick as they once were i think uh i think they're gonna be very reluctant
08:42this
08:42time and i think we are we are now i think we're bracing for a prolonged super cycle here
08:48okay how is we're hearing stories about cargo theft uh how has that happened how is that going with the
08:55trucking industry worse worse and worse uh gary from the years 2020 to 2024 you know covid and post covid
09:04the uh safety standards the uh safety standards the fraud the uh nonsense the riffraff all of it went
09:13haywire we had a really really rough four years in trucking again from the freight recession to just
09:18everything that came along with it that i just described um it's up freight fraud right now cargo
09:25theft is up about 400 percent and that's that yes it's a real number four over one period of time
09:32um 400 percent over one uh pre-covid from a pre from pre-covid up 400 percent okay and it's
09:42a mix
09:42between just stealing it's a mix between just stealing trailers right good old highway robbery
09:47but what's really going on what's what's what we're seeing more of is identity theft you know with with
09:54ai and technology doing what it's doing it's getting that much easier for uh for for chameleon
10:01carriers false carriers to steal the identity of a different carrier go into a nike warehouse pick up
10:07that trailer fill up nike shoes that's worth five hundred thousand dollars and just stroll right out of
10:12there okay uh bob janetsky is absent today we hope he feels better um moving on with the
10:24markets we are seeing the markets seem to be they were off a little bit this week but they're still
10:29at near uh record high levels the thing the things that we see are holding them back are high inflation
10:36numbers but uh i i believe that that is short term that we will see a drop in inflation we've
10:44already
10:44seen a drop in fuel prices both on uh well the wholesale side the price of the price of oil
10:51is now down to
10:53about 80 88 to 90 dollars a barrel which is still very high but that's a significant improvement
10:59and we've seen that the price of diesel and gasoline in the past uh 10 to 21 days has dropped
11:07between
11:0840 and 60 cents a gallon isaac is the have you seen the drop of and fuel prices and how
11:15has it impacted
11:15you yeah no we've we've definitely yeah yes we've seen the the fuel prices decrease um it's neutral we
11:24get a fuel surcharge gary the only thing that i would say you know it's it's uh the noise from
11:28the
11:28truck drivers is lessened but yeah we uh we get a fuel surcharge and it covers uh the the the
11:34ups and
11:34downs of fuel so yeah we're we're uh the industry is really optimistic right now gary that's good
11:42the stock market models that we have seen are showing a slightly they're not as optimistic as
11:50they were a week ago because of the uh the uh slide back this week which again is still not
11:57that far off
11:58of uh uh record highs and if there is a peace settlement this week and week this weekend in iran
12:07and let's pray that there is uh oil prices will drop inflation will be reported as having drop
12:14that'll be two months down the road but i think we could look forward to seeing lower fuel prices
12:20within a matter of days or a few weeks and in the meantime interest rates are holding steady or dropping
12:28a little bit with that uh terms of our question on optimism don are you optimistic or pessimistic
12:37going forward for the country and for maybe even a peace settlement yeah i'm optimistic although it
12:43seems like uh every time it looks like we're close to a peace settlement that we don't have one so
12:49i'm optimistic but i'm skeptical isaac yeah you can't do much now to uh wipe the smile off
12:58of the industry's face and especially my face right now we're very optimistic gary it's going
13:03to be a fun right uh i am also optimistic and the biggest problem we're going to have in getting
13:10a
13:10settlement with with iran is that there's chaos over there and there is no firm leadership so if
13:17you're dealing with somebody today are they the right guy and remember even if you have a peace
13:22agreement it only takes one or two rogue people to make that peace agreement look like it's not
13:27working when in fact it is with that i want to say thank you to everybody be well stay safe
13:33have a good weekend and god bless america
13:37you
13:57you
13:58you
13:59you
