00:00:01Good morning. Mike Trout on Broadway. Rave reviews coming up. Dero celebrating the greatness of Trout.
00:00:09And Jill Sherman trying to figure out what is going on with the Mets while the Guardians nearly end a
00:00:1445-year drought.
00:00:15Plus, Royals catcher Carter Jensen joins the show. What it's like playing for the team you rooted for and what
00:00:22it's like to have Sal Perez as a mentor.
00:00:25Lauren, what's it like having me as a mentor?
00:00:28How much time do you have?
00:00:30Roll the open.
00:00:46Part of being awful.
00:00:47We are ready for the weekend.
00:00:49As you said.
00:00:49Bite your tongue.
00:00:50Come on now.
00:00:51MLB Central is presented by TV.
00:00:53It's Friday, April 17th. Good morning.
00:00:55Let's have the best two hours of our lives.
00:00:58Yes, Sean Casey.
00:00:58Robert Flores.
00:00:59We got it.
00:01:00I'm Lauren Shahadi.
00:01:01Food, fun, Friday.
00:01:03We're introducing a new segment.
00:01:04Hopefully, yeah.
00:01:05I'm excited.
00:01:06What do you mean hopefully?
00:01:07You know.
00:01:08Hopefully, fingers crossed.
00:01:09If hopefully Casey makes it, he's landing on a plane.
00:01:12Are you excited for the weekend?
00:01:14You hired a handyman.
00:01:15He's coming Saturday.
00:01:15Well, I don't know if I've hired this handyman yet, but here's my thing.
00:01:19During the winter, the person that plows my driveway.
00:01:23Which should be you, by the way.
00:01:25Have you seen my driveway?
00:01:26You've seen my driveway.
00:01:26Yeah, we have seen that.
00:01:27That's straight downhill.
00:01:28You're not doing that.
00:01:29You're not doing that.
00:01:29Come on.
00:01:30And so he broke through a fence that lines my driveway.
00:01:35I hired and called a handyman, asked if he would be able to come fix it.
00:01:40He said, sure.
00:01:41Send me a picture and a video of the fence that's broken so I can know what I'm working with.
00:01:46Yeah.
00:01:46So I did that.
00:01:47And then he replies with, can you measure it?
00:01:50And I'm like, am I doing this job or are you, sir?
00:01:53You have to so he can bring the right tools.
00:01:56You look handsome, by the way.
00:01:57Thank you.
00:01:57How about you come measure it?
00:01:59Exactly.
00:02:00I'll give you an extra 20 and we'll call it a day.
00:02:03Sir, I'm assuming you have a measuring tape.
00:02:05I don't even know where mine is.
00:02:07You don't have?
00:02:08It's in a junk drawer.
00:02:09You don't have a toolbox?
00:02:11What am I, Bob the building?
00:02:12Wait, time out.
00:02:14You've got to have money.
00:02:15Every man should have a toolbox.
00:02:17You've got to have a toolbox, even if you don't know what you're doing with it.
00:02:19You've got to have it.
00:02:20Why do I have to have it?
00:02:21Play the game.
00:02:22I've got a hammer.
00:02:23Because you have a wife.
00:02:23I've got multiple screwdrivers.
00:02:24You need a wrench.
00:02:26I've got a couple nails.
00:02:27I've got that.
00:02:28But why do I need a toolbox?
00:02:30You need a stud finder.
00:02:31You need a stud finder.
00:02:32You've got to have one of those.
00:02:33That's just him, by the way.
00:02:35This is the stud finder at my house, right here.
00:02:38You're not a stud finder.
00:02:38Right here.
00:02:39When I'm pointing my finger at my house, I'm the stud finder.
00:02:42You're a tush, stud finder.
00:02:44Keep it moving.
00:02:45Keep it moving.
00:02:46Why do we love the game?
00:02:47I love the game.
00:02:47Okay, I don't know about you, but Orioles manager Craig Albernaz and Stephen Vogt have an
00:02:51awesome relationship.
00:02:52We know that, right?
00:02:53Of course.
00:02:54Vogt redecorated Craig's visiting office with kid-sized furniture.
00:03:02And he called it in the press conference.
00:03:05He called it a gift.
00:03:09And it was decorated with bluey-themed stuff.
00:03:12Uh-oh, really?
00:03:13Good stuff.
00:03:14Yeah.
00:03:15If you guys watch his show for a long time, Bluey is a very good show.
00:03:19Huh?
00:03:20Kid show?
00:03:20It is.
00:03:21Very educational.
00:03:22Robert, however, not so familiar.
00:03:25Let us take it back.
00:03:26I got it wrong.
00:03:26Got the name wrong.
00:03:27This adorable little toddler.
00:03:29Robert can't help but he puts in his pants.
00:03:32That was listening to, what's that character?
00:03:37Blowy.
00:03:38Blowy.
00:03:39Blowy.
00:03:39Blowy.
00:03:41Blowy.
00:03:41That's a different character.
00:03:42Blowy is someone else.
00:03:46You got to be careful.
00:03:47You can't do that with Ron Darling on set.
00:03:50I felt bad.
00:03:51He's a learned scholar.
00:03:52I felt bad.
00:03:53He should not be subjected to this sort of nonsense.
00:03:56That was tough.
00:03:57That was a toeing the line award.
00:04:00As it should be.
00:04:01As it should be.
00:04:02And we also should have been nominated for it.
00:04:03I thought you, it's not what I thought you were going to go with for why I love the game.
00:04:06Wait, what did you think?
00:04:07I thought you were going Joey Bart, Braxton Ashcraft, pink arm sleeve.
00:04:12It was good.
00:04:12The gender reveal.
00:04:13I'm not big on the gender reveal.
00:04:17Oh, that's shocking.
00:04:17Neither am I.
00:04:18Why not?
00:04:19I'm not big on it.
00:04:20It's enough.
00:04:21You don't need it.
00:04:22But that was kind of cool.
00:04:23That was kind of cool, isn't it?
00:04:24Yeah, that's cool.
00:04:24Different way to do it.
00:04:25That's a great way to do it.
00:04:27That's such a new thing to do.
00:04:29What?
00:04:29I think your wife, why I love the game is not good enough.
00:04:33I thought you, I try and think along with my partners.
00:04:37Yeah.
00:04:37I got to go.
00:04:38Try to help.
00:04:39To the Bronx we go.
00:04:40Wake it up, America.
00:04:41On a beautiful Friday, my bad.
00:04:45Who wouldn't?
00:04:47Angels and Yankees.
00:04:48Joe's right.
00:04:49This series has been absolutely everything for the fans.
00:04:51Mike Trout, Aaron Judge facing off in the last of a four-game set.
00:04:55Crazy displays of power.
00:04:57Two of the best to ever do.
00:04:59Former Yankees.
00:04:59How good must this have felt?
00:05:01What do you go, five for ten on the series?
00:05:03The Yankees and had an awesome series did Oswald Peraza.
00:05:08Bottom of the first, you guys, they can't stop, won't stop.
00:05:10Number 99 in the daytime, emphatic.
00:05:13And, Lauren, remember I was saying before we got on, the Angels, there's a case to be
00:05:18made that they were the better team through the four games of this year.
00:05:22You're absolutely right.
00:05:22We want a side angle.
00:05:23We got you.
00:05:24Angels lead two to one.
00:05:25Say it.
00:05:26Zero.
00:05:26Bottom of the third.
00:05:27Me, grab this stick of wood.
00:05:30She leads all active players.
00:05:32And sling it.
00:05:34455 home runs.
00:05:35Mike Trout is second.
00:05:36She is going third.
00:05:38He can go no jersey.
00:05:40He should.
00:05:42Top of the six.
00:05:43I would.
00:05:44Just low.
00:05:45Breaks the bat.
00:05:46Bloop.
00:05:47Single to center field.
00:05:48Two runs.
00:05:49Score.
00:05:49And the Angels lead by three.
00:05:51Watch this ball.
00:05:54What is this?
00:05:56That's his nitro zone right there.
00:05:59Good grief.
00:06:00I think he hit zero.
00:06:01He hit that full abdomen engage.
00:06:03Yeah, he hit that with his abductor.
00:06:04Judge is like, what the?
00:06:07Look.
00:06:08The magnitude of his greatness in this series on this screen.
00:06:13The first visiting player to Homer on four straight days at the Yankees.
00:06:18Angels lead at 7-4 on his seventh home run of the season.
00:06:22And fifth of the series.
00:06:24Joe Adele, by the way, both sides of the ball.
00:06:26They intentionally walked Trout right before the...
00:06:29And he says, walk this.
00:06:31Face is loaded.
00:06:32Top of the eighth.
00:06:33Grand slam.
00:06:34Angels roll Trout on his historic series.
00:06:40Aaron Judge called you the greatest of all time after the game the other night.
00:06:43I know you two have a pretty good relationship.
00:06:45But how much fun was it with the two of you going toe-to-toe these last four games?
00:06:48Yeah, no, it was really fun.
00:06:49That first game, you know, set it off.
00:06:50And, you know, it was blow for blow for both teams.
00:06:54Not just me and Judge.
00:06:55It's a fun series.
00:06:57Obviously lost a couple tough ones.
00:06:59But glad we got that bounce back from last night after, you know, tough ninth inning.
00:07:03But we took ownership of it and we turned the pace.
00:07:07Five home runs in a series.
00:07:09D-Rowe incorporated that slight step back that you've documented 11-time.
00:07:14All-Star, let us not forget.
00:07:17Let us not forget.
00:07:19I see you, Detroit Tigers, walking off the Royals.
00:07:21I see you, Parker Messick, flirting with a no-hitter.
00:07:24And when the dust settled, we're on the merge call last night, I said, can we?
00:07:29I know we just did it with Judge and Trout a couple days ago.
00:07:33But the ball he hit yesterday, I mean, he's back.
00:07:37Say what you want.
00:07:39He's back.
00:07:39He's playing center field.
00:07:40He's on pace for another MVP-type season.
00:07:44Violent bat speed through the zone.
00:07:46I just want to walk you down memory lane because we've forgotten about him, right?
00:07:50Handmaid, calf, bunch of nicks and injuries, 23 to 25.
00:07:56But when he's right, and he's been right for an eight-year peak, he's done things no one else in
00:08:02the game has ever done.
00:08:03So take a look at this.
00:08:05Highest weighted runs created plus through his age 34 season, right?
00:08:10Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Judge is third, Hornsby, Mickey Mantle, who he's compared with the most at 172.
00:08:18And there's Mike Trout at 166.
00:08:20What do I always say?
00:08:22You are some version of your high school self.
00:08:25It's just a maturation, right?
00:08:28We're going to get into some high school video here.
00:08:30Real quick, hot change me.
00:08:32Players with 400-plus homers, 200-plus stolen bases, and an 80-plus war.
00:08:39Bonds, Mays, Henry Aaron, Alex Rodriguez, Frank Robinson, and Mike Trout.
00:08:46Not only you hear people talk about this at the Hall of Fame, not only is he going to waltz
00:08:50into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot,
00:08:52he's going to sit at the small table with the guys like Griffey Jr. and Henry Aaron and those big
00:08:57boys.
00:08:57Okay, I want to take you through the progression, through the MVP years, and show tip of the hat to
00:09:05the scout.
00:09:060-9, 26th overall pick, or 25th overall pick, him and Randall Gritchick, back-to-back outfielders to the Angels.
00:09:15Out of Jersey, the Millville Meteor.
00:09:18Take a look at the back speed.
00:09:21Watch this, how tight that is.
00:09:23Run that back for me real quick.
00:09:24Now, you're going to a high school game, and you're looking for body movement, fluidity.
00:09:30What does it look like?
00:09:32How do you project it?
00:09:34This is raw, but you can't deny how he gets through the zone.
00:09:38Watch this.
00:09:41Bang!
00:09:42Everything short and tight.
00:09:44And what does that lead to?
00:09:45It morphs into one of the greatest ballplayers of all time.
00:09:48Run this back for me real quick, because it's a progression.
00:09:51Here's high school, 0-9, 2014, he starts winning his first MVP.
00:09:572014, 36 bombs, 111 RBIs, 16 stolen bases.
00:10:03And what you see as the years progress from high school all the way up to present day,
00:10:09is it's just cleanup mechanics that you had in high school.
00:10:13Start understanding how guys are attacking you.
00:10:16But the tightness and the back speed, that never left him.
00:10:20Run this.
00:10:21So that's the progression to 2014 MVP season.
00:10:28This is one of his furthest home runs he's ever hit, back in Kansas City in 14.
00:10:33And the beauty of Mike back in the day is, he's back playing center field, but he was stealing bags.
00:10:39He was impacting the game.
00:10:40And if you want to get real technical about it, myself and Naze back in edit, by the way, Jacob
00:10:46Bader back in the building.
00:10:48There you go, Bader.
00:10:48There you go, Bader.
00:10:49Ortega's been doing a hell of a job, but Bader's back in the building in a big way, putting this
00:10:55together.
00:10:56Now we transition.
00:10:57Hold on, leave this for a second.
00:11:00He won the MVP in 14, 16, and 19.
00:11:04Technically, hopefully Josh Donaldson's playing golf right now and he's not listening.
00:11:09You could make the argument he had Donaldson in 15.
00:11:14Miggie in 2012 and 2013, you could have made the argument for Mike.
00:11:19Mookie in 18 went bonkers.
00:11:22There's a chance he could have north of four or five MVPs.
00:11:25But a couple guys didn't go off the radar.
00:11:28Here's the transition side angle from 14 to 16.
00:11:33Pretty much the same.
00:11:34Run it.
00:11:36But I'm blown away with the bat speed.
00:11:39I know we're going to talk about Junior Caminero a little bit later with Sean Casey, and he does lead
00:11:442026 in bat speed.
00:11:46But if you're talking about short, tight, slump-proof, it kind of looks like Mike Trout.
00:11:53Short arms.
00:11:54And we were talking last night.
00:11:56He almost looks like Wolverine.
00:11:57Like it's an extension.
00:11:59The bat's an extension of his arms.
00:12:01And he's just getting through it.
00:12:02Run it.
00:12:04Everything.
00:12:05Just tight and on the baseball.
00:12:08Run that back for me real quick.
00:12:09You start to see subtle changes.
00:12:11He starts to get a little wider in 2019.
00:12:14A little bit more closed off.
00:12:16Run this.
00:12:19But that violent swing from A to B has never left him.
00:12:24And then here he is in 2019.
00:12:26I don't know.
00:12:272019.
00:12:2845 bombs.
00:12:31104 RBIs.
00:12:32The peak is crazy.
00:12:34Highest war among players through age 27 season.
00:12:37He's won.
00:12:39Mantle, Cobb, Hornsby, A-Rod, Jimmy Foxx, Mel Ott.
00:12:43All leading you to present day.
00:12:45To walk into Yankee Stadium.
00:12:47Five homers in four days.
00:12:49I just want to go through them real quick.
00:12:51Culminating with last night's homer.
00:12:53That was absolutely killed.
00:12:55There's Jake Bird.
00:12:56Slider.
00:12:57Top of the zone.
00:12:58I'm going to take you through this.
00:13:00Camillo Duval at bat.
00:13:02And what you see here with Mike is he realizes
00:13:06throughout the process of this A-B
00:13:08that Camillo Duval does not feel comfortable
00:13:10landing his fastball in the zone.
00:13:13Right?
00:13:13He's going to go to slider.
00:13:16Because if he lands that heater top of the zone.
00:13:19So right here.
00:13:19Pause.
00:13:20You see him shaking his head.
00:13:21He's almost pot committed.
00:13:23I don't think you can land the fastball.
00:13:25Let me sit on the slider.
00:13:26And he gets it right like Robert said in his nitros.
00:13:29Oh.
00:13:30And it's see you later.
00:13:35Listen, the respect.
00:13:37You heard Stanton talk about it.
00:13:39I know we lost the game yesterday.
00:13:41But you're witnessing greatness.
00:13:43And the greatness is healthy.
00:13:45Ryan Weathers, two heaters away.
00:13:47Slider down and in heater again.
00:13:49Luis Hill, back-to-back heaters.
00:13:52And then yesterday.
00:13:53To watch him eliminate pitches.
00:13:57Because my man right here, Angel.
00:13:59How do you say it, Nays?
00:14:00Shevihi.
00:14:02He has nasty stuff.
00:14:04This is 99 top of the zone.
00:14:06With a change-up and a slider.
00:14:09Watch this next slider right here.
00:14:10This is a good pitch.
00:14:12Filthy.
00:14:12Goes back to the change-up.
00:14:14Mike's all over it.
00:14:16And destroys it.
00:14:18So, let us not forget.
00:14:20Let us enjoy it.
00:14:21Let us enjoy it.
00:14:22He might be back in a big way.
00:14:24His parents, his mom and dad, his sister were there.
00:14:27Certainly enjoying it.
00:14:29Keep going.
00:14:31And we talked about that.
00:14:33The little step back.
00:14:34And you'll see him tinker with that throughout the season.
00:14:36I don't think that's going to be a thing that he stays with the rest of his career.
00:14:42Kind of putting a band-aid on something he's trying to work on in the cage.
00:14:46But you take a look at the numbers.
00:14:4712 to 22.
00:14:50OPS plus a 178.
00:14:52OPS rank he was first.
00:14:54Then, like I said, he went through his little bumps and bruises.
00:14:57His nicks.
00:14:57His ham eight bone.
00:15:00Yeah, take a look at that.
00:15:02Nays wanted me to make that point.
00:15:04In 2023 through 2025, even though he was nicked up, he was still a top 30 hitter in the game.
00:15:10His numbers were better than Corbin Carroll's.
00:15:13Jay Rod.
00:15:15But they weren't out there playing center field.
00:15:17Mike wasn't out there playing center field stealing bags.
00:15:20But you see it in 2026.
00:15:22He's back.
00:15:23I hope it continues.
00:15:24I don't know if it gets the Angels to the postseason.
00:15:27But it's, man, fun to watch him walk in and fun to watch the Yankees.
00:15:30Big boys respect.
00:15:31Well, the Angels are back at home tonight.
00:15:33They've got their studs Soriano on the mound against the red-hot San Diego Padres.
00:15:37Matt Waldron expected to make his season debut for the Pods.
00:15:41We've got Padre highlights in just a bit.
00:15:42But let's go to Detroit for the Tigers and the Royals.
00:15:46That's great stuff, Gero.
00:15:47Let's go to – by the way, I was watching this game.
00:15:49There was, like, five different weather patterns within the same game.
00:15:53It was cloudy.
00:15:54It was sunny.
00:15:54It was cloudy.
00:15:55There might have been snow there.
00:15:56I don't know.
00:15:57Jack Caglione cuts the lead to 6-3 in the seventh.
00:16:01Mikel Garcia bloops one in.
00:16:03That brings in another run.
00:16:05Royals trying to avoid the sweep.
00:16:07Next batter, Bobby Witt Jr.
00:16:09Oops.
00:16:11Oh, man.
00:16:13With his speed, you know that's a knock.
00:16:14I need one of those.
00:16:15The Royals are within one, and then two batters later, Salvador Perez.
00:16:21On one knee.
00:16:22On one knee.
00:16:24And the Royals have come all the way back, and they lead 8-6 in the ninth.
00:16:31It's now 8-7.
00:16:33You see how it was sunny and then cloudy?
00:16:36Pasquatch.
00:16:37Vinny Pasquantino makes it a 9-7 lead.
00:16:43So, they got a 9-7, two-run advantage going into the ninth.
00:16:47Riley Green.
00:16:49Two outs.
00:16:50Two on.
00:16:51That is down the line.
00:16:55Here comes one run.
00:16:56Here comes another run.
00:16:57And we are tied at nine.
00:16:59Next batter, Colt Keith.
00:17:02Do it.
00:17:03Congratulations, Colt Keith.
00:17:05That is a walk-off winner.
00:17:09You're nailing this highlight, by the way.
00:17:11That was three days in a row.
00:17:13Yesterday was a walk-off.
00:17:14The first two were in the eighth.
00:17:15Tigers have won six in a row, beating the Royals 10-9.
00:17:20Who wants to go to America's Finest City?
00:17:22Look at the stands.
00:17:23Listen to the crowd on a Thursday in April.
00:17:26Luis Camposano in the bottom of the second.
00:17:28He's had a few big hits this weekend.
00:17:30San Diego did most of their damage in the bottom of the second inning.
00:17:34Base hit to left field.
00:17:35One run will score.
00:17:36Padres looking for their eighth straight.
00:17:3812 of 14.
00:17:40And Fernando Tatis sparks the offense.
00:17:43Reach base three times, hitting 4-29.
00:17:46In the game, a variety of ways.
00:17:47And he still doesn't hit a level on the homer.
00:17:49But, my gosh.
00:17:51Cal Raleigh.
00:17:52Contributing.
00:17:52Top of the sixth.
00:17:53Put the Mariners on the board.
00:17:54The 0-2 pitch.
00:17:55Takes it to right field.
00:17:57One run will score.
00:17:58And that would do it for...
00:17:59You were through great.
00:18:00Walker Bueller.
00:18:01Not too pleased.
00:18:02He's just a red tush.
00:18:04He wanted to finish that sixth with a flurry.
00:18:07He threw the ball good.
00:18:08But if he can pitch like that, that's huge for them.
00:18:10Hey, guys.
00:18:11I'm just going to get a jump start on the traffic.
00:18:13Mason Miller's in the game.
00:18:14Good night.
00:18:15Top of the ninth.
00:18:16What?
00:18:18What?
00:18:18J.P. Crawford.
00:18:19Hider.
00:18:20Mitch Garver.
00:18:21Not fair.
00:18:23103.
00:18:24And can land a breaking ball for a strike.
00:18:26It's really not fair.
00:18:28Last hope for Seattle, if you want to call it that.
00:18:30Get the project machine on him.
00:18:32Padres win it 4-2.
00:18:34You know about his stats.
00:18:35It's fun to look at them on paper.
00:18:37Struck out 80 of the last 135 batters he's faced.
00:18:41He hasn't allowed an extra base hit since August 5th.
00:18:46That's it.
00:18:47That's it.
00:18:48That's all I got.
00:18:49That's all I got.
00:18:50People were ornery with one another in Cincinnati.
00:18:54Giants and Reds.
00:18:55This is Spencer Steer at the plate in the second inning.
00:18:58Let's go back to Wednesday.
00:18:59J.T. Brubaker on the mound the night before.
00:19:03Steer calls time before the pitch is thrown.
00:19:07And Brubaker's like, what the?
00:19:08Look, so next pitch, and I can get behind this type of behavior.
00:19:14You know I'm petty.
00:19:18Brubaker, yeah, this is the, so that's Steer getting time.
00:19:22You're trying to be looking at him?
00:19:23So now Brubaker is like, yeah, I'm just going to hold it.
00:19:28And Steer, while he's in the box, has some choice words like throw the bleeping ball.
00:19:34But, to his credit, he wins the battle, gets a knock.
00:19:38So let's go back to yesterday.
00:19:42Steer gets one in the ribs.
00:19:46In the seven, Jung-Hoo Lee with the Giants up one to nothing.
00:19:53Little bloop shot.
00:19:54That'll work.
00:19:55Runner scores.
00:19:56Two nothing, San Francisco.
00:19:57By the way, Landon Roop took a no-hitter into the sixth.
00:20:00He pitched very well.
00:20:01Eighth inning.
00:20:01Willie Adamas, I got you.
00:20:04Connor Phillips hits him.
00:20:06He's escorted to first.
00:20:09See, none of this should happen.
00:20:11Okay.
00:20:12Willie Adamas should know he's getting drilled, whether he likes it or not.
00:20:16Phillips got ejected.
00:20:17And you just run, you go to first.
00:20:18So now, Sal Stewart facing Eric Miller with a runner on second.
00:20:23Sal Stewart hit three homers in this series.
00:20:25He goes down to end it.
00:20:28Eric Miller appears to say something.
00:20:30Okay, he's definitely gesturing towards the Reds' dugout.
00:20:35And Sal Stewart's like, what did I do?
00:20:37He goes, you get out of here.
00:20:38He apologized.
00:20:39Giants win three nothing.
00:20:42Snapping the six-game losing streak.
00:20:45Yeah, I mean, I was just fired up.
00:20:47Probably let the emotions get the best of me.
00:20:50I mean, I'm not trying to, like, direct anything specifically, like, to him.
00:20:53Like, I have no problem with him.
00:20:55Said a sentence that most hitters probably don't like to hear.
00:20:58So I can understand why he's upset.
00:21:00But, no, it was just more, like, I was just really fired up.
00:21:03And it wasn't anything personal.
00:21:04I don't have anything against Stewart.
00:21:06It was just he happened to be the guy at the plate.
00:21:08Came down the mound and looking at me and pointing at me and just yelling.
00:21:12So I, tempers flared, things happened, and it's all good.
00:21:15I'm not going to make light into that.
00:21:16We won the series, and things happened.
00:21:19Tough game today, but we won the series.
00:21:21And we're going to go to Minnesota and play.
00:21:23So I'm not going to talk more about that.
00:21:26We leave things on the field, and whatever happens, happens.
00:21:29Reds in Minnesota tonight to take on the Twins.
00:21:32Top of the order, much-needed day off for the Mets on Thursday.
00:21:35Coming up, Joel Sherman discussing their warning signs thus far,
00:21:39including the curious start to the season for Francisco Lindor.
00:21:43And in a few segments from now, we're on the express train,
00:21:47including Parker Messick, almost doing something that hasn't been done
00:21:52for the Guardians in almost 50 years.
00:21:55And it's Friday.
00:21:57So you know what that means.
00:21:58We're bringing the laughs.
00:22:00Sean Casey is in studio.
00:22:02And we're counting down the top ham and eggers from the week that was.
00:22:07Yes, you play that air guitar, sir.
00:22:09We've got a little bit of feedback.
00:22:11Come on.
00:22:12No feedback?
00:22:13No feedback.
00:22:14Oh, I thought he said we do have...
00:22:15Oh, it's behind us.
00:22:16Oh, look at Joel Sherman!
00:22:20Is Joel Sherman serving looks?
00:22:22He's an influencer.
00:22:24Guys, just everybody do whatever you want.
00:22:27That's what we're doing now.
00:22:28Today's world.
00:22:30Do whatever you want.
00:22:3122-minute A block.
00:22:32And then you apologize later.
00:22:3322-minute A block.
00:22:34We're good.
00:22:34You're supposed to be good.
00:22:36Sorry I ruined your life.
00:22:38So I apologize.
00:22:38We're good?
00:22:39No, we're not good.
00:22:43We missed the playoffs last year.
00:22:45It has been a tough start to 2026.
00:22:48Joel Sherman, lifelong New Yorker.
00:22:51The perspective is perfect.
00:22:52Mannington, inside corner.
00:22:53Good morning to you.
00:22:54Sweat by the Dodgers.
00:22:55Not getting any easier.
00:22:56Have the Cubs starting today.
00:22:58In terms of, Joel, spending the money and bringing talent to Queens that has been there,
00:23:04why do you feel like it hasn't come together yet?
00:23:07Yeah, look.
00:23:08We could play the it's early game, and it's early.
00:23:13It is really early, and I could come up with a very plausible, lots of new players.
00:23:18Juan Soto hurt.
00:23:20The handmaid bone injury for Lindor that he's probably still, to some degree, healing from
00:23:25and hurting at least his offense to explain it.
00:23:27But I've got to say, when you dig into 7-12, that, you know, oftentimes, if you begin 7-12
00:23:37or worse, it doesn't go great for you.
00:23:40And 59 teams over the last 10, 162-game seasons have started 7-12 or worse.
00:23:48Only three have gotten to the playoffs, and only one other got above 85 wins.
00:23:52Let's say that's what you need to get into a 6-team playoff in the National League.
00:23:57So, there's that.
00:23:58And then, I do want to point out about how long the season is.
00:24:03And just what a roller coaster, if I was making a second point.
00:24:07The Mets have been over the last three years.
00:24:09Just look at this.
00:24:10They begin the 2024 season with the sixth-worst record in baseball through June 2nd.
00:24:16Then, for more than a calendar year, they have the best record in baseball.
00:24:20And look where they've been since June 13th.
00:24:23So, like, just to the side of what a long season it is, the 24 and 35, they were 11
00:24:27under
00:24:28500.
00:24:28They make the playoffs.
00:24:30So, that's a lot worse, obviously, than 7-12.
00:24:33But if you are talking about a team that needed a strong start this year, with new faces and
00:24:39with the bad vibes off of last year.
00:24:42To flush it right away.
00:24:43This was a team that did it.
00:24:45And one of the things I would point out is, the history of this organization has been that
00:24:50when there has been expectations, generally, things haven't gone well.
00:24:54Again, let's use some recent years here.
00:24:572022, no expectations.
00:24:59They win 101 games, go to the playoffs.
00:25:01They build up the payroll.
00:25:032023, they're sellers by midseason.
00:25:05Buck Showalter gets fired.
00:25:07David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza come in.
00:25:09Big picture.
00:25:09Not much expectations.
00:25:11They go to game six of the NLCS.
00:25:12Last year, they built it up again.
00:25:14They're the most disappointing team in baseball.
00:25:15They've built it up again this year.
00:25:17A lot of what David Stearns has done the last two years hasn't, to this point, worked out.
00:25:22This is not an organization where you want to lose faith because the history has been
00:25:25so bad when you have lost faith.
00:25:27It's such a good point.
00:25:28I remember when Steve Cohen bought the team and he cited the Dodgers as,
00:25:32that's kind of the standard.
00:25:33He said, I like what they're doing here.
00:25:35And then the very next year, Francisco Lindor came over there.
00:25:38All the talent in the world.
00:25:40Can you pinpoint what you see on a daily with him?
00:25:43You know, Lauren, if we would have played a game three weeks ago before a game was played,
00:25:48who's the highest IQ player on the Mets?
00:25:51Baseball IQ.
00:25:53That would have been easy for me.
00:25:54It would have been Francisco Lindor.
00:25:55So what would be concerning to me is what's going on with Francisco Lindor?
00:25:59Because it's not only that he's not hitting.
00:26:01He got his first homer in RBI the other day in the season.
00:26:05It's that.
00:26:05This was April 1st.
00:26:06I thought it was an April Fool's joke.
00:26:08He forgot how many outs there were.
00:26:10He got picked off because he was fiddling with the ball.
00:26:12He went behind the bag here instead of going to the bag.
00:26:16The other day, he doesn't charge it to Oscar Hernandez ground ball, which opens up a beginning.
00:26:21Where's his head at?
00:26:23Like, what is this about?
00:26:24Because I'll say this.
00:26:25He's way too important to the team.
00:26:28The Mets cannot win if Francisco Lindor is not sharp and excellent.
00:26:33You always talk about how accountable he is standing in front of his locker answering all the questions.
00:26:38It's almost like he's been in a haze this year.
00:26:41Even in those situations, I feel like something is happening.
00:26:44You know, it's so interesting because I remember when he first got there, he himself said,
00:26:48I want to be so much to so many.
00:26:50And Buck Showalter at the time said, just be the Mets shortstop.
00:26:52And I wonder, with players who get over there, who come to Queens, who come to New York City,
00:26:56maybe even the Bronx, does that almost hang over them?
00:27:00Because Bobichette's handling the fans beautifully, and maybe that's kind of a theme.
00:27:06Look, if you talk about players coming to New York and having problems,
00:27:10we almost always use Ed Whitson as the standard and the Yankees as the team.
00:27:14And the reality is, it's kind of, when it comes to position players, been far worse with the Mets.
00:27:20Look at this group of players that came to the Mets' stars.
00:27:23Forst of Warren, Alomar, Beltran, Bay, and Lindor.
00:27:27Now, Beltran and Lindor, ultimately, it worked out with the Mets,
00:27:30but their first seasons were way off of who they usually are.
00:27:33Bobby Bonilla, it was terrible his first year.
00:27:37Mike Piazza was getting booed the first few months with the Mets.
00:27:41Like, it's actually there, there's problems, and Bobichette has gotten off poorly.
00:27:47And, you know, I'm surprised at the strikeout numbers.
00:27:49Is he striking out one out of every four plate appearances, Lauren?
00:27:53It just doesn't feel like him.
00:27:55And, again, at a time, you know, value is when you're needed.
00:27:59Like, Soto is out, and the fact that Lindor, Bichette, Polanco have not hit,
00:28:04and that leads to this bigger problem that I would point out as a way to close this up, Lauren,
00:28:09is for the Mets to go on the kind of surge, win 14 out of 18.
00:28:14That they need to.
00:28:15That they need to kind of settle things down, get back to the right place.
00:28:19You've got to do things well on the field.
00:28:21And right now, if you look at them, the ranks are not great.
00:28:25They're averaging three and a half runs a game.
00:28:27It's in the bottom five of the sport.
00:28:30Their defensive efficiency is better than last year, but it's middle of the pack.
00:28:35It's not great.
00:28:36And I would just point this out.
00:28:37They thought they were going to have a really long rotation to the point where
00:28:41Sean Minaya is in the bullpen and Christian Scott's in the minor leagues.
00:28:45Well, Mark DeRose's two Team USA guys have honored that.
00:28:49Look at those numbers for McLean and Holmes.
00:28:52That's a 2-1-2 ERA.
00:28:53The rest of the rotation, that's Singa, Peralta, Peterson, 560 and 11 starts.
00:29:00That isn't going to play.
00:29:01They can't just be good and 40% of the game started.
00:29:05So they thought this was going to be a strength.
00:29:07And I still think over the long term, both their offense and their starting pitching
00:29:11probably will be.
00:29:13But, you know, you don't want 7-12 to become 9-18.
00:29:17And, you know, where you're just playing from behind all year.
00:29:20And right now, I don't see a strength to the team, at least until Soto comes back next
00:29:25week.
00:29:25You said you think they'll be good.
00:29:26Is that a little optimism from you?
00:29:28Well, I don't want to change.
00:29:29New Yorker, you?
00:29:30Can I say what I'm saying?
00:29:31Did I hear it?
00:29:31So I always start with this.
00:29:32I always play the game in my head.
00:29:34What's the likelihood of things?
00:29:35I thought the likelihood of things this year was the Mets were going to be a good team.
00:29:39I picked them to win the division in part because I thought between Steve Cohen's
00:29:42money and a deep farm system, they were better equipped to fix the team as it
00:29:46went along than Philadelphia or Atlanta.
00:29:48I haven't, but I would have said the implosion chance on this team was 10-15% when the season
00:29:53began.
00:29:54After three weeks, I think it's 30-35%.
00:29:56We're seeing a lot of bad signs here.
00:29:59That still means I think there's a better chance that they figure it out because I think there's
00:30:03a lot of talent there, but it is concerning what's happened these first three weeks.
00:30:07We have seen teams get hot and go on crazy stretches, so here's hoping for them and their
00:30:11fan base.
00:30:11Joel Sherman, thank you.
00:30:12Awesome.
00:30:13Robert, take it away.
00:30:13Hey, coming up, former big leaguer and World Series champion John Garland and his daughter,
00:30:21Gabriella, who has decided to take up the family business.
00:30:26We'll chat with them when we come back.
00:30:28You're watching MLB Central.
00:30:43Remember, all dressed up in my uniform, click, click, clicking out to the diamond, and I
00:30:48saw the great grass, and I said, oh my God, Babel, you really are going to be able to play
00:30:54professional baseball.
00:30:56Always follow your dream and give 110% of all time.
00:31:01You want to become a ball player of play.
00:31:04Good job.
00:31:07Well, they're very, very lucky to be able to throw like a girl, to my opinion.
00:31:13Take in everything and then apply.
00:31:18For God's sakes, go out there and play.
00:31:21If you don't want to play, stay home.
00:31:24All right, let's keep going.
00:31:27If it's easy, everybody will be doing it.
00:31:33Let's go!
00:31:36That's what you represent.
00:31:37It's the future of women's baseball.
00:31:42The Trailblazer Series is Major League Baseball's annual development event for girls.
00:31:48It's back for year nine.
00:31:49It's kicking off today.
00:31:50Two-day experience for girls ages 12 to 14 to grow their skills, compete, and learn for
00:31:57some of the best, all while honoring the legacy of Jackie Robinson.
00:32:01More than 90 players from the U.S., Canada, and Panama taking part in Vero Beach, Florida
00:32:06at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, and joining us now, one of those players, Gabriela
00:32:12Garland, along with her dad, 2005 World Series champion with the White Sox, John Garland.
00:32:18Good morning to you guys.
00:32:19How are you?
00:32:22Good.
00:32:23How's it going?
00:32:24We're doing well.
00:32:25Thank you, John.
00:32:25Let me start with you.
00:32:26What does this experience mean to you as a dad, watching Gabriela be a part of something
00:32:31like this?
00:32:35It's exciting.
00:32:36I'm just happy for her, glad for her this opportunity is there, because baseball is
00:32:42something she's wanted to play since she was younger.
00:32:44I mean, she's only 12 now, but so just the opportunity for her to have these experiences
00:32:49is what I'm happy for.
00:32:51Gabriela, why was it baseball for you?
00:32:52I came up and I played softball.
00:32:54We were kind of, as girls, ushered into that side to playing softball.
00:32:58Why was it baseball for you, and what was that choice like?
00:33:04I was going to start on softball.
00:33:06But my mom told me to play baseball, because they develop a little bit faster, I feel like.
00:33:14And I feel like it goes a lot more faster and the game's quicker.
00:33:20How great is that?
00:33:22John, I think I got a pretty good idea.
00:33:25But I'm in the midst of this.
00:33:26My son's 16 years old.
00:33:28I'm behind the fence.
00:33:29I don't know if you're coaching or just playing parent, but take me through your style of parenting
00:33:35and then give me a little scouting report on Gabriela.
00:33:37Gabriela, I'm definitely not coaching.
00:33:43I don't want that many kids not listening to me during the day.
00:33:49I'm the parent.
00:33:50I'm the parent actually sitting on the outfield.
00:33:52Yeah.
00:33:53Nice and quiet.
00:33:54I might be yelling to her when she's in the outfield, but give me an adult beverage.
00:33:58I'm sitting in the outfield just watching a baseball game.
00:34:01Give me a scouting report on her.
00:34:03Scouting report?
00:34:03Yeah.
00:34:06Good reads in the outfield.
00:34:07Here we go.
00:34:08We need to get those feet moving a little bit more as the pitch is crossing the plate.
00:34:12But we're working on that.
00:34:14And good speed.
00:34:15Good speed on the base paths.
00:34:16Can steal some bases.
00:34:17So as a catcher, you better be ready to throw.
00:34:20John, you mentioned, obviously, you enjoy watching Gabriela and her growth.
00:34:24You have played in the best league in the world against the best players in the world.
00:34:31What is the balance like?
00:34:32And what advice would you give parents that don't have your background
00:34:36about coaching their kids, about supporting them as they begin this journey of playing baseball
00:34:44or whatever sport they might choose?
00:34:49I think it's just supporting them, like you said.
00:34:52Just being there and just giving them the support and letting them know they can do whatever they want to
00:34:57do.
00:34:57It's up to them.
00:34:58The opportunity is there.
00:34:59Go out and grab it.
00:35:01Gabriela, who's more competitive, you or your dad?
00:35:14Gabriela, you heard what your dad said about you.
00:35:18Give me your own scouting report on yourself.
00:35:20What are you working on while you're there?
00:35:22What do you think you need to get better at?
00:35:24And what do you do well?
00:35:32Gabriela, I'm starting to hit more consistent at the plate.
00:35:37And I'm starting to get to both faster in the outfield behind me, in front of me.
00:35:45Well, that's great.
00:35:47Well, John and Gabriela.
00:35:48You got to let her know.
00:35:49Keep those hands back and break your ball.
00:35:52Hey, eliminate pull side, Gabriela, when you got two strikes on you.
00:35:57Like your dad used to just pound in and you had to eliminate it.
00:36:04Hey, guys, we appreciate you joining us.
00:36:07Congratulations on all your success.
00:36:09John, have a great time in Vero Beach, Florida at the Jackie Robinson Complex.
00:36:14And Gabriela, thank you for the time and good luck to you.
00:36:16Good luck.
00:36:19Appreciate it, guys.
00:36:20Thanks for having us.
00:36:20Thank you.
00:36:21Got it.
00:36:22That's John Garland and his daughter, Gabriela Garland.
00:36:25They're doing a great job.
00:36:25That's part of the Jackie Robinson, the Dream Series.
00:36:28I got a bunch of boys that play with me that leave throughout the summer and go do the Dream
00:36:32Series.
00:36:32The development of youth.
00:36:34The girls' options.
00:36:36The girls' options.
00:36:36Is just done at the highest level.
00:36:37And the impact that playing sports, especially for young girls, has beyond sports, off the
00:36:43field.
00:36:44It's definitely a real thing.
00:36:45So, great job.
00:36:46Hey, here's what's coming up on MLB Central.
00:36:49First pitch to Carter Jensen.
00:36:51And he clocks it.
00:36:52High in the air.
00:36:53Deep to right field.
00:36:55Headed for the seats.
00:36:56And gone.
00:36:57Up next, Carter Jensen of the Royals joins the show.
00:37:01What it's like playing for the team he grew up rooting for.
00:37:05And what's it like learning from the great Salvador Perez.
00:37:13Jensen has seven hits.
00:37:15Three of them home runs.
00:37:16Here's the pitch.
00:37:17And he clocks it.
00:37:18High in the air.
00:37:19Deep to right field.
00:37:21Headed for the seats.
00:37:22And gone.
00:37:23A ferocious, fuchsia swing.
00:37:26Carter Jensen's first home run at home this season.
00:37:30The Royals double their lead.
00:37:32It's 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
00:37:35And another rocket from Carter Jensen.
00:37:39Oh, I like those uniforms.
00:37:41Nice swing.
00:37:41Nice uniforms.
00:37:43Four home runs this season for Carter Jensen.
00:37:45Putting on a show on both sides of the ball.
00:37:47And he joins us this Friday morning on MLB Central.
00:37:50Carter, good morning to you.
00:37:51All I kept reading in the winter is that you were kind of primed for a breakout.
00:37:55Did you feel that?
00:37:56Did you feel like spring was kind of leading into this?
00:37:59Good morning.
00:38:01Yeah, yeah.
00:38:02First of all, thanks for having me on.
00:38:03But I think, yeah, you know, going into this offseason, now making my debut, you know,
00:38:09it's one of those things where I knew I had some stuff to work on.
00:38:12And I knew that we had a big year coming up.
00:38:15So it's a great offseason.
00:38:17Great, great start to the season.
00:38:18And, you know, just trying to, you know, stack days and stack some wins.
00:38:23Yeah, I think, Carter, for me, obviously the offensive profile, you're going to rake.
00:38:27I mean, you got pop, all of it.
00:38:29But I think the pitching staff needs you to be a catcher first.
00:38:33And what better way than to learn from Sal Perez?
00:38:36Can you take me through any of the tricks of the trade or what he helps you with the most
00:38:41or how you attack that relationship?
00:38:44Yeah, 100%.
00:38:45You know, Sal's amazing.
00:38:46He's been amazing to me.
00:38:49He's the best teammate I've probably ever had.
00:38:51So, you know, to be able to learn from him and, you know, really have him take me under his
00:38:56wing
00:38:56and show me the ways, it's been amazing.
00:38:59I think most importantly, it's just relationships with pitchers, you know, especially the work ethic.
00:39:05You know, you can't play as long as he has without the work ethic and, you know, the drive,
00:39:10the want to win, the want to play the game.
00:39:13You know, he's amazing.
00:39:14Learn from him every single day.
00:39:15You're kind of going off that with the pitching staff.
00:39:19I mean, you've got some good guys to catch.
00:39:20The Walkers of the World, the Reagans on down the line.
00:39:23Who's the most interesting guy to pre-game plan with going into the game?
00:39:32Probably Seth Lugo.
00:39:34Really?
00:39:34He has so many different pitches, and I think that's why it's interesting.
00:39:39You know, I've never caught somebody who has as many pitches as he does.
00:39:43And, you know, he's just such a great baseball mind.
00:39:45You know, as a catcher, it's awesome to be able to kind of just sit back and know that
00:39:49he's going to be coming to those meetings, you know, prepared every single day.
00:39:53Yeah.
00:39:54And, you know, I've learned a ton from him, a ton about, you know, learning how to pitch
00:40:00different guys and how to game plan.
00:40:02So, you know, he's been incredible.
00:40:04He's really fun to work with.
00:40:06Carter, you grew up a Kansas City Royals fan, grew up in the area, went to a World Series game.
00:40:11First of all, I always say it's a miracle to make the big leagues, and I think people really
00:40:15need to understand how rare it is and how amazing that feat is.
00:40:20So to make it to the big leagues and then play for the team you grew up rooting for, what
00:40:24is
00:40:24that like?
00:40:26Oh, it's a dream come true.
00:40:28I mean, it's so hard to describe the feeling.
00:40:31You know, I've been to, you know, a World Series game that the Royals were in.
00:40:37And, you know, growing up, it's all I've wanted to do my whole life.
00:40:40So to be able to be in this position, you know, it's, you know, it's a credit to not
00:40:46just myself and the hard work I put in, but everybody along the way that's helped me.
00:40:49You know, my parents and little brothers getting dragged to games and, you know, it's just been
00:40:55so fun.
00:40:56A dream come true, for sure.
00:40:58You said you wanted to do this your whole life.
00:41:00How old were you when you first picked up a bat?
00:41:02What was your childhood like in the game?
00:41:04Oh, gosh, I, this is, I guess, I've been in love with baseball since I can't even remember.
00:41:12I was probably two, three years old.
00:41:14But, you know, my dad played professional hockey.
00:41:16So, you know, I grew up kind of playing hockey as well.
00:41:19And, you know, the hockey shot turned into a baseball swing and, you know, kind of steps
00:41:24led after that.
00:41:24And I was just always the best at, the best at baseball.
00:41:27So I stuck with it.
00:41:28Carter, hockey, I am, it seems like one of the most physically demanding sports that
00:41:34you can take up.
00:41:35How did that prepare you for another physically demanding position?
00:41:41And, of course, that's being behind the plate at the major league level.
00:41:44Yeah, I think the number one takeaway is just the toughness.
00:41:48You know, my dad raised me and all my brothers to, you know, be hockey tough.
00:41:52And, you know, I think being a catcher, you have to be tough.
00:41:55You know, you're taking, you're taking a lot of tax to your body and, you know, foul tips
00:41:59off your legs, off the head.
00:42:02You know, I think it's one of those things where, you know, you just have to be tough.
00:42:06And it's, it's, it's a demanding position.
00:42:09Hockey's a demanding sport, too.
00:42:10So I think it kind of just, you know, growing up kind of primed me for baseball and primed me
00:42:15to be a catcher.
00:42:16Carter, that sounds familiar because I, too, grew up hockey tough.
00:42:21Yeah, it comes in handy, Carter.
00:42:23I agree with you.
00:42:25Robert, he has your baby blues.
00:42:27Yeah, we were noticing during the break, you have lovely eyes, Carter.
00:42:30You're, you're blessed with light colored eyes.
00:42:32However, he is not a middle-aged man.
00:42:34He is, of course, a young guy at the big league level.
00:42:36So he is, he's a puppy.
00:42:38Exactly.
00:42:39He's, he's doing things.
00:42:40Carter, how do we feel about the City Connects?
00:42:44I like them.
00:42:44I like them, too.
00:42:45No, I think they're, they're simple with just enough, just enough pop of color.
00:42:50I think they're really cool.
00:42:51And wearing them for the first time was really cool, too.
00:42:54So, you know, being able to, you know, get a couple wins.
00:42:58And, you know, I had a, had a nice Homer in those uniforms, too.
00:43:02So I'm liking them.
00:43:03What are we having for breakfast this morning?
00:43:08Well, our dietician might get mad at me, but I have not eaten yet today.
00:43:12I'm going to, I'm going to eat something later on.
00:43:15Are you a breakfast guy?
00:43:17Uh, kind of.
00:43:19I like breakfast food a lot.
00:43:21I'm into coffee a ton.
00:43:22So I got, I got a good latte this morning in New York City for the first time.
00:43:27So I've never been here.
00:43:28So I got, I got to try and try some cool stuff here.
00:43:31Hey, watch yourself.
00:43:32Be careful.
00:43:33Be careful.
00:43:34You're going to love it.
00:43:35Uh, Royals in town to take on.
00:43:37You're here to get Knox.
00:43:38This is a business trip.
00:43:39That's it.
00:43:39He's, he's all about business.
00:43:41So, uh, Carter, thank you very much for the time.
00:43:44Congratulations on the hot start.
00:43:46Good luck to you and the Royals this weekend against the Yankees.
00:43:49Thank you so much.
00:43:50Appreciate it, guys.
00:43:50Thank you.
00:43:51You know, he brought up coffee and it has taken me 54 years to realize the joy of coffee.
00:43:59I've got my little Nespresso machine.
00:44:01Wait, so you, I'm drinking coffee now and it's amazing.
00:44:05It tastes good.
00:44:06I've been missing out this whole time.
00:44:08I had one sip my whole life.
00:44:09I do not.
00:44:10There's nothing better than letting the dogs out in the backyard robed up on a Sunday morning.
00:44:15The Masters, the Masters was getting ready to come on with a nice cup of joe.
00:44:20With, I got a little Nespresso pod in there.
00:44:22Put a little creamer.
00:44:24Watch it.
00:44:24And away you go.
00:44:25I mean, that is dangerous, Robert.
00:44:26I don't think anything better.
00:44:28Hey, speaking of...
00:44:29With a suede jacket on?
00:44:30Who do you think you are?
00:44:31Exactly.
00:44:31A new man.
00:44:33Hey, Harrison Bader.
00:44:35When we come back, you know, Red Sox fans...
00:44:38Harrison Bader's a Brado.
00:44:40They know how to party at Fenway.
00:44:42Not Brado.
00:44:43In fact, you could say they might party like a rock star or in this case, a lobster.
00:44:47When we come back, we're going to be sampling their twist on a New England staple.
00:44:54Hey!
00:44:55Hey!
00:44:55You think you're sneaking a beard by us?
00:44:58Don't make me get to keep a beard, but I don't.
00:45:01Son of a...
00:45:02Yes!
00:45:02They're holding us back, Roe Flo.
00:45:04They're holding us back.
00:45:05They don't want me to be great.
00:45:17Welcome back to MLB Central.
00:45:19A reminder, Capital One is donating $1,000 to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for every
00:45:24walk-off this season.
00:45:25Let's take a look back at some of the best walk-offs from this past week presented by Capital
00:45:30One.
00:45:37Right center, Cruz back, no chance, base hit, Kingery scores, Cubs win!
00:45:44That ball's hit in the right field, fairly deep.
00:45:47So Jason tagging at third, and he's going to try to score.
00:45:50The throw, off-line, he is safe!
00:45:53As the runners go, breaking ball.
00:45:54So we're going to light, light, base hit, left field.
00:45:56Here comes Jazz, he'll score.
00:45:58Wells coming to third.
00:45:59They're going to wave him on.
00:46:00Here comes the throw to the plate.
00:46:01He's safe.
00:46:02Dankies win!
00:46:04Line to left, and it's a fair ball!
00:46:07Down the left field, line to the corner!
00:46:09Around from second base, Camposano!
00:46:11L'Oriano's coming around!
00:46:13Padres are walking off!
00:46:15Merrill Madness!
00:46:18Are you ready and are you hungry?
00:46:20The dog of the north is what it's called.
00:46:22Pretend you're on the Food Network.
00:46:23It's really good.
00:46:24Double Mitchwish.
00:46:25It's in Seattle.
00:46:26It's like an explosion of flavor in my mouth.
00:46:29It's your old dog.
00:46:30Put whipped cream on anything.
00:46:31It's really good.
00:46:33Polish cannonball is fried.
00:46:35And a funnel cake.
00:46:36Oh, you got me.
00:46:37Didn't you hear me?
00:46:37I got you a funnel cake.
00:46:38The Boomstick Burrito, gentlemen.
00:46:41You guys are not going to get a job.
00:46:42It's just a smokey.
00:46:43It's a food network.
00:46:44It's a food network.
00:46:44It's a food network.
00:46:44Brisket.
00:46:45Ochos.
00:46:46Top three.
00:46:47Get in a fight, Jahadi.
00:46:49There we go.
00:46:50Take out me.
00:46:51To the ballgame.
00:46:54Tigers are in Boston tonight.
00:46:56Why don't you take out me to the ballgame, Sean Casey?
00:46:58Let's go.
00:46:59Team 8.
00:46:59Let's go, baby.
00:47:01Let's go, baby.
00:47:01Let's go, baby.
00:47:02Let's go, baby.
00:47:02Let's go, baby.
00:47:02Let's go, baby.
00:47:02Now's the time.
00:47:03The Red Sox sent us lobster poutine.
00:47:05Lobster.
00:47:06Oh, yeah.
00:47:07Lobster.
00:47:07Say it.
00:47:08You ready?
00:47:10Deconstructed chowder with crispy fries and smoked bacon.
00:47:14Get in there.
00:47:15That's my favorite kind of chowder.
00:47:17I have a 115 float.
00:47:19Oh, my God.
00:47:19Why is that relevant?
00:47:21I'm washing down scrambled eggs with lobster.
00:47:23Yes, you are.
00:47:24Actually, really good.
00:47:25Is it?
00:47:25It is.
00:47:26You know, it's always big on the temperature.
00:47:27He always says, is it Luke?
00:47:29So there's two temperatures here.
00:47:31All right.
00:47:31It's cold.
00:47:32That's pretty good.
00:47:33It's lobster.
00:47:34It's lukewarm.
00:47:34And it's good.
00:47:36Okay.
00:47:36It's right on time.
00:47:36It's crispy, piping hot fries, rich and creamy chowder, chilled poached Maine lobster, smoky
00:47:43crisp bacon.
00:47:44I was going to say, I see bacon bits.
00:47:46Yeah.
00:47:46And scallions.
00:47:48You're 100% getting it.
00:47:49Can you throw bacon bits on technically anything?
00:47:52You really can't.
00:47:53That is not going wrong with that.
00:47:54Even on donuts, now an ice cream.
00:47:56I'm not doing it.
00:47:56Are you a lobster fan?
00:47:58Is that your...
00:47:58Yeah, I'm not.
00:47:58I am.
00:47:59I'm not a huge lobster fan, but I am.
00:48:01I'm a decent fan.
00:48:01They call the lobster the cockroach of the sea.
00:48:05But I'm not kidding.
00:48:07But I've ever told you how cockroaches find their mates?
00:48:12I'm dead serious.
00:48:13But they taste amazing.
00:48:14Who knew?
00:48:16I don't know so bad.
00:48:17I was loving it.
00:48:18Where can I get this poutine?
00:48:21Oh, I'm so sorry.
00:48:22I'm so glad to see that out.
00:48:24Home plate first level, Stan C7, the big concourse, Stan LC2, and second and fourth levels.
00:48:31What's your go-to at a ballpark?
00:48:33And don't just tell me, I'm usually on the field, Lauren.
00:48:36What would you usually get?
00:48:38You want to know what I get?
00:48:39A dog or nachos, right?
00:48:41I'm a nachos bel grande, okay, in Pittsburgh.
00:48:45You come up to the Pittsburgh, you're like, all right, give me the nachos bel grande.
00:48:47You got the bootleg round nachos with salsa.
00:48:51Those are bootleg.
00:48:53Cuébueno cheese, and then you go into, like, the jalapenos that are out there for, like,
00:48:57everybody you grab with your hands.
00:48:59You're like, this could be dicey, but I'm doing it.
00:49:01Next thing you know, you go, salsa to the cheese to the jalapeno, and you're like, let's get it.
00:49:06Let's get it.
00:49:06The way we go.
00:49:07That bathroom stall just shuddered.
00:49:10Hey, but, Lauren, do they all come in this fun little boat?
00:49:16We're not here for nonsense.
00:49:18Oh, my God, Richie.
00:49:20You're going to need a bigger boat.
00:49:21Yeah.
00:49:21I think this is a great time.
00:49:22Shout out to Jaws.
00:49:23This is awesome.
00:49:24These are the new baseball helmets, these things.
00:49:26This is good.
00:49:26Robert Shaw, R.I.P.
00:49:29Are you a lobster?
00:49:30Are you a lobster fan?
00:49:31No.
00:49:31No?
00:49:32No?
00:49:32No.
00:49:33You surf and turf?
00:49:34You like burgers, don't you?
00:49:36Yeah.
00:49:36Kase, you surf and turf?
00:49:37I like surf and turf.
00:49:38A little tail on the end?
00:49:39Yeah.
00:49:40I got to have the steak, too.
00:49:42Not usually, but I like it.
00:49:44It's good.
00:49:45Can't go wrong with a little tail on the end.
00:49:47That's good.
00:49:48Shaw's like, give me the smash burger.
00:49:50That's good.
00:49:50Good stuff.
00:49:51Some extra sauce.
00:49:52We have crossed the top of the hour.
00:49:54A brand new hour of MLB Central is straight ahead.
00:49:58That poutini is good.
00:50:00When we come back, Sean Casey, Dero, we've got a lot more highlights to bring you, including
00:50:06Junior Caminero leading a comeback win for the Rays.
00:50:09Dero and Casey telling you why this guy, this young slugger, giving you some throwback vibes
00:50:16to sluggers from years ago.
00:50:19They'll explain why.
00:50:20Yeah, now we're talking.
00:50:24Just sacrifice, but clueless at the time.
00:50:31Joe, running late, sounding great.
00:50:33The rare express train in the second hour.
00:50:36We're getting weird.
00:50:37Let's just embrace it.
00:50:38Orioles, Guardians, Jose Ramirez, two-run homer, fourth of the season.
00:50:42Makes it two-nothing Cleveland.
00:50:44But the story, guys, was Parker Messick.
00:50:46The last time the Guardians had a no-hitter, it was your boy Len Barker's perfect game way
00:50:52back in 1981.
00:50:54They've had several near misses since.
00:50:57But Parker Messick, the latest to make a bid.
00:51:01He brought a no-hitter into the ninth.
00:51:06But in the ninth, Laoti Tavares, first pitch swinging, a little bleeder that gets through.
00:51:14First hit allowed on 107 pitches for Messick.
00:51:19He stayed in the game.
00:51:20Blaze Alexander gets another knock.
00:51:22That was it for Messick, but he was outstanding.
00:51:25Congratulations to him.
00:51:26As the Guardians win by the final of 4-2, the Orioles have lost three in a row after a
00:51:326-1 stretch.
00:51:33Look at the near misses here in Guardians history.
00:51:38John Farrell, back in 1989, flirting with destiny.
00:51:42He went eight innings.
00:51:44Carlos Carrasco, Cookie, went eight and two-thirds way back in July 1st of 2015.
00:51:50All right, our top story in Houston, Rockies, Astros.
00:51:53Hunter Goodman, he was silent through the first couple of games until then.
00:51:59Fifth home run of the season, and that ties the game at two.
00:52:07That's a funny home run skit.
00:52:09Tyler Freeman, that dog will hunt.
00:52:113-2, Colorado.
00:52:14Chase Dolander, five and a third, nine strikeouts.
00:52:18He did not start this game.
00:52:19They went with an opener.
00:52:21But this kid was just firing BBs.
00:52:25Astros struck out 13 times as a team.
00:52:29Rockies snapped the Astros' seven-game home winning streak, winning 3-2.
00:52:33Nats, Pirates, Marcelo Zuna.
00:52:36The Big Bear with his first home run as a Pirate.
00:52:40I love his – I'm not sure what this is, but I love it.
00:52:45I'm not sure what it is, but I love it.
00:52:46Brandon Lau comes through late in the game.
00:52:50Remember, earlier in the week he was pinch hit for.
00:52:53A lot of discussion for that.
00:52:55That ties the game in the ninth at seven.
00:52:58But James Wood, always up to no good.
00:53:01Brian Reynolds comes up throwing, throwing out in time.
00:53:05Nats go on to win by the final of eight to seven.
00:53:08It's the first time the Nats scored four earned runs in a game since May of 2024.
00:53:14Blue Jays Brewers' Trevor McGill gets a new ball.
00:53:18You see him rubbing the baseball on his pants, and he hears some conversation from the Blue Jays dugout.
00:53:25Well, that got him fired up.
00:53:28As you see, he strikes out the batter to end the inning, and him and Blatt Jr. start exchanging words.
00:53:35Ninth inning.
00:53:36Still a 2-1 game.
00:53:38Kaz Akamoto grounds out to end it.
00:53:40Brewers win back-to-back 2-1 games against the Blue Jays.
00:53:44It's the seventh time in their last 13 games that the Jays have scored two runs or less.
00:53:52Rays, White Sox, ninth inning.
00:53:55Junior, Camonero, got him.
00:53:58That ties the game at three.
00:54:01He lost his helmet on the home run track.
00:54:05So we got a brand-new ballgame.
00:54:07Same inning.
00:54:08Lucas Sims had trouble finding the zone.
00:54:12Ends up walking two runners here.
00:54:15And the Rays go on to win 5-3.
00:54:19The Rays have scored 36 runs during their six-game win streak.
00:54:23I started feeling.
00:54:24I started feeling.
00:54:25I started feeling.
00:54:27I feel very comfortable.
00:54:29You know, another great series here with the guys.
00:54:33And let's keep it doing.
00:54:35Another big series in Pittsburgh.
00:54:37At that moment, I tried not to hit it.
00:54:39Tried too much.
00:54:40Just put it in play.
00:54:42I tried to get him based in that position.
00:54:45You know, I'm very, very excited in that moment because my mom is birthday today.
00:54:50And I'm telling him before the game, I hit a helmet for you, mom.
00:54:53And, yeah, I did it, mom.
00:54:54I love you so much.
00:54:55And God bless you.
00:54:57Aw.
00:54:57Aw.
00:54:58Casey, Dero loves this guy.
00:54:59Every single time we see a Junior Caminero highlight.
00:55:03He talks about the way his body moves, the bat speed.
00:55:05How has he been able to put it all together at such a young age?
00:55:08Casey, in that lineup for the Dominican, where was he hitting?
00:55:11Yeah, right in the middle.
00:55:12At 21 years old.
00:55:13Right in the middle.
00:55:14Okay?
00:55:14They know it.
00:55:15Surrounded by absolute stars.
00:55:17This guy's special.
00:55:18Last year at 21 years old, 45 and a buck 10 in 154 games.
00:55:26And he got off to a little bit of a slow start as far as the power cord this year.
00:55:30But he was still having good ABs, according to Kevin Cash.
00:55:34Hit a big homer for him yesterday.
00:55:36I love having you out here.
00:55:37No one's better in the business than breaking down hitting than you.
00:55:40And I always like to go, like, throwback because he does some things.
00:55:44Like, listen, we live in a world where you can go on Instagram, you can go on YouTube,
00:55:50you can watch our show, you can do anything,
00:55:52and you can get some type of hitting tutorial, evaluation, whatever you want.
00:55:58And what I noticed from the guys, and you were the hitting coach for Team USA,
00:56:01is a lot of them want to be ready to launch at release.
00:56:04Yeah.
00:56:05Okay?
00:56:05I think Bregman said it best when we were talking one day.
00:56:08You know, him and Judgey were talking.
00:56:09You know, some of those conversations at WBC were blowing my mind.
00:56:12But just talking about the 1-2.
00:56:14Things are happening.
00:56:15The guys are so good out there.
00:56:16The movement's so good.
00:56:17The velocity.
00:56:18It's got to be a 1-2.
00:56:20Ready to launch.
00:56:211-2.
00:56:22And then not like a 1-2-3, you know, which Camonero does the things that are a little different.
00:56:27Camonero's thinking 1-2, 1-2-3.
00:56:29No, no, he's thinking, how far can I hit this ball?
00:56:31This is a wild horse.
00:56:33Who at some point, eventually, I think he's going to have to back it up to kind of save his
00:56:38body.
00:56:39But he is moving towards the baseball.
00:56:42It's a collision with the lower half.
00:56:44But Case, you can talk to this.
00:56:46He's got the craziest bat speed in the game right now in 2026.
00:56:50We'll get into some boards.
00:56:52It's him and Stan.
00:56:53Love his passion.
00:56:55Love his passion for it, right?
00:56:56MLB ranked since the start of last year.
00:56:59Top 10 hitter.
00:57:01Homer's 49.
00:57:02Ribby sees 8th.
00:57:03Total bases.
00:57:04Slug.
00:57:05Barrels.
00:57:05Hits the ball aggressively hard.
00:57:08But talking about it, when you talk hitting, everyone wants to stay, like, in that door frame and stay behind
00:57:14the baseball.
00:57:15Yeah.
00:57:16He is crashing toward it, but his upper half stays behind the baseball.
00:57:21Well, I think the biggest thing with Camonero is, like, listen, you can make a forward move like some of
00:57:25these guys are going to talk about if you do, and you can create that leverage if you can keep
00:57:29the bat back and in the zone, right?
00:57:31If you make that move and it's aggressive, you have to really be good at this barrel.
00:57:35Where's the barrel?
00:57:36Where's he wearing?
00:57:36Because you don't want to come forward, have your hands kind of coming with you.
00:57:39I think he does a great job of coming forward, keeping his hands back, and just unloading.
00:57:43Let's look at it.
00:57:44Side angle.
00:57:44Let's get into his homers here, Broyd, from the year.
00:57:47And the big thing is, is you think you can beat him up if he's jumpy off his backside?
00:57:54Not the case.
00:57:55I remember when Ronald Acuna, watch that pitch.
00:57:57Run that back.
00:57:58What?
00:57:59I know it's 90.
00:58:01Run that back for me.
00:58:02That ball's two inches out of the zone.
00:58:05And I remember Ronald Acuna when he first broke into the big leagues.
00:58:09He's kind of got that flat set, and you think you can beat him up?
00:58:13You can't.
00:58:14You can't.
00:58:14Yeah.
00:58:15Run this.
00:58:17Let him get on top of that baseball.
00:58:20You also have to think he's thinking top down.
00:58:22If he's hitting that pitch, he's thinking about getting on top of the baseball.
00:58:25Oh!
00:58:27See, that's why he's so good.
00:58:28He has that barrel adjustability.
00:58:30You saw 78.
00:58:30You saw the splitter down.
00:58:32Then you've got a heater, a sinker, 98.
00:58:34Freedom in his swing.
00:58:35Dude, it's just so good.
00:58:36His path is so good.
00:58:37But that whip, that last whip of the barrel to the ball is, you know, he's got elite eye-hand
00:58:42coordination.
00:58:44Watch this side angle.
00:58:45I want you, we're going to run this back a couple times.
00:58:48Watch him crash.
00:58:50It's not judge, coil into the back hip, and kind of rotate off the back hip and stay there.
00:58:56This is Cody Bellinger does it from the left side.
00:59:00It's, we're going this way.
00:59:02And then they're good enough to be able to keep their upper half behind the baseball.
00:59:10Oh, man.
00:59:11Rack that back.
00:59:12Run that back.
00:59:13Man, that's so good.
00:59:13I think the greatest thing is watch the, he gets.
00:59:16He's preset.
00:59:17His back leg is preset.
00:59:18And he loads this hip.
00:59:19I mean, as he's going forward, he's still holding that power in the back side.
00:59:23So watch.
00:59:24He loads that right there.
00:59:25Stop it right here.
00:59:26And then what he's doing right here, because he loaded that back side, now he's just taking
00:59:30that force from the back.
00:59:32But look at the hands.
00:59:33Oh, my gosh.
00:59:35You want to talk about up and back.
00:59:37And he's creating such a stretch right here.
00:59:39The force from Camonero.
00:59:41That's why he hits it so far.
00:59:42Keep it going until toe tap.
00:59:43Stop right there.
00:59:44And then you're seeing right there from the back side to the front side.
00:59:48I mean, look at that right there.
00:59:49All that power is going into that front side.
00:59:51And we've talked about this before.
00:59:53That acts like your brake.
00:59:54Right?
00:59:55Think about when a car stops and you hit the brakes.
00:59:57If you had stuff in the back seat, everything's flying forward.
01:00:00Well, that's what he's doing right there.
01:00:01With that movement forward, he is generating so much force into that front side and run
01:00:07forward.
01:00:07And that's why that front heel ends up coming off the ground, because there's so much force
01:00:11going up.
01:00:11And this ain't a taut swing.
01:00:13I mean, he's been swinging like this since he was a young blood.
01:00:16Highest fast swing percentage since 2024.
01:00:19Stanton's at the top minimum of 1,000 swings.
01:00:2298.
01:00:23Junior Camonero, 79.6.
01:00:25But hot change to this year, Broid.
01:00:28Highest average bat speed this season.
01:00:31Wow.
01:00:32Camonero's gone by a little bit.
01:00:34Minimum 50 swings.
01:00:36So, I think it'd be interesting, and I will keep my eyeballs on it, as his career progresses
01:00:42five years in, ten years in, the adjustments he has to make where that athleticism kind of
01:00:50slows down just a smidge.
01:00:51We'll see.
01:00:52See if he stays back a little bit more.
01:00:54But he reminds me, go back to the 80s, when we were watching the game and breaking through.
01:00:59I mean, come on now.
01:01:00Oh.
01:01:00You know what?
01:01:01Dude, I play with Sheff in the 07.
01:01:02I play with Sheff.
01:01:04Yeah.
01:01:04But he's not gaining a ton of ground like Camonero.
01:01:07Run that back for me real quick with Sheffield.
01:01:09The violence of the bat speed is why I wanted to compare.
01:01:14It's room.
01:01:14I'm going.
01:01:16You see him gain so much ground.
01:01:18And Sheff told me one time, he said, Case, I'm trying to hit all three balls out of the
01:01:21ballpark.
01:01:22Look at Long Island.
01:01:23Yeah.
01:01:24Back in the day.
01:01:24Talk about a guy who went and got it.
01:01:27Yeah, I like that.
01:01:29I like that.
01:01:29Camonero has a little even more.
01:01:31How about Reuben from the right side?
01:01:35These are some good comps.
01:01:36Yeah.
01:01:36I like that.
01:01:37Got a lot of good stuff.
01:01:38But the thing I noticed this year, and Nays brought it to my attention, is his four homers
01:01:43have all been pulled.
01:01:44And last year, when he hit 45, and maybe it's Steinbrenner Field, maybe he realized he doesn't
01:01:50have to cheat to any spot, but he was working the ball, dead center, the other way, running
01:01:57into a bunch of homers.
01:02:00It's definitely, it's a small sample size, but there's a lot more pull in his game right
01:02:04now.
01:02:05So pause this for me, bring up that last board, and then we'll get into WBC.
01:02:09WBC, highest slug to the opposite field since the start of 2025.
01:02:14Nick Kurtz is blowing the doors off everybody.
01:02:18And there's Junior Camonero.
01:02:19So another thing to watch, right, as the season progresses, does he start to work to the big
01:02:25part of the field?
01:02:26So he has that monster season.
01:02:29Right, right, right.
01:02:29Instead of...
01:02:30The guys that can go the other way, like these guys, just some of the best players in the
01:02:33game with the best juice.
01:02:34Yeah, look at his spray chart from last year.
01:02:37Right.
01:02:37That looks like my spray chart.
01:02:38Yeah, it looks like Shahadi, some junior year in high school.
01:02:40Shahadi's spray chart is literally concentrated right here, right in that region.
01:02:46But it worked for you.
01:02:47You're all district.
01:02:48I have to say it again.
01:02:49Okay.
01:02:51Get back to the tape.
01:02:55The unteachable.
01:02:56You can't teach certain guys to get to certain pitches.
01:02:59It doesn't make sense to me that Paul Skeens is on the mound just powering splinkers and
01:03:05two seamers in, and then he rolls a sweeper at the top of the zone.
01:03:10That's a ball.
01:03:11Yeah.
01:03:12To think he would even entertain swinging at that, and then to be able to take a pitch,
01:03:16close the screen door on the outer half.
01:03:18That was an incredible, incredible at-bat.
01:03:21Yeah, and the thing is, this is the best celebration of all time.
01:03:25Watch this.
01:03:26Let this breathe.
01:03:31It's the best.
01:03:33It's unbelievable.
01:03:35It's the best.
01:03:36Oh, my God.
01:03:37We had guys getting chippy yesterday for no reason.
01:03:40Imagine if someone did that.
01:03:43The freedom in the swing.
01:03:44It describes it perfectly.
01:03:46In your camera.
01:03:47The athleticism.
01:03:47Yep.
01:03:48Great job, guys.
01:03:49Great job.
01:03:50Ballpark Cam takes us to Philadelphia.
01:03:53Pretty interesting series for, you know, mid-April here.
01:03:58I guess a Creed concert is happening.
01:03:59How dare you?
01:04:01No, this is in Philadelphia.
01:04:02We're a little bit later today.
01:04:03It's the Braves and the Phillies.
01:04:05The Phillies have already lost three series at home.
01:04:08Tyjuan Walker, Martín Pérez.
01:04:10That is the pitching matchup.
01:04:12And a little bit later, apparently a concert.
01:04:16How do you feel about that?
01:04:18I love it.
01:04:19Do you?
01:04:19Probably ticket prices are not what you want.
01:04:22More Central after this.
01:04:30Boy, if you were to write a book, welcome inside.
01:04:33You've got stories for days.
01:04:34So as we sit around the campfire, our first game called Never Have I Ever in this bowl.
01:04:42I played this in eighth grade.
01:04:43It wasn't like this.
01:04:44How did it go?
01:04:46And I guarantee you.
01:04:46Someone's basement, and it was awesome.
01:04:48This is not like that.
01:04:49I don't think this will.
01:04:51Yeah, I don't think this will.
01:04:52In the bowl scenarios, Robert, you're up first, and you tell us which this pertains to, who it does.
01:04:59Never have I ever been chopped by a former WWE champion.
01:05:03I'm judging by the laugh.
01:05:05It's not me.
01:05:07Let's go.
01:05:07All right, guys.
01:05:08You've got to get up and tell the story.
01:05:09Here we go.
01:05:10You've got a whole court.
01:05:11Here we go.
01:05:11So I'm with the Red Sox in 08, and we're playing Tampa really quick.
01:05:17And up on the screen, John Cena had thrown out the first pitch, and he's from West Newberry, Mass.
01:05:21So he's a big Sox fan.
01:05:23Threw out the first pitch earlier in the year.
01:05:25I mean, he airmailed that, too, but no big deal.
01:05:27He's a 17-time champ.
01:05:28Anyway, in Tampa, we're watching a game one day, and I'm in the dugout, and here comes John Cena.
01:05:33And I think he's like, let's go.
01:05:34All right, guys.
01:05:35Everybody, let's go.
01:05:36Let's go Rays.
01:05:36And I'm like, dude, that guy.
01:05:37So I call my buddy at WWE, Marty Miller.
01:05:40I'm like, hey, you text me.
01:05:41See his number.
01:05:42So I get to see his number, call him.
01:05:43Next thing I know, I'm like, hey, dude, you're a Red Sox fan.
01:05:46You're not a Tampa fan.
01:05:47He's like, well, I live in Tampa now.
01:05:48I was like, all right, let's get together.
01:05:49So we were trying to get together.
01:05:50So bam, here we go.
01:05:51Later in the season, I call him.
01:05:52Hey, I go, hey, can you get together?
01:05:55He's like, yeah.
01:05:56I was like, all right, we're having a team dinner.
01:05:57Meet us after the team dinner at the hotel bar.
01:05:59He's like, cool.
01:06:00So he's like, I'm getting a quick workout in.
01:06:02True story, Rovelo.
01:06:02It's like 1030.
01:06:03I'm like, you're getting a workout at 1030?
01:06:04You sound like Shahadi.
01:06:05Anyway, he comes walking in at like 1130 with his brother-in-law.
01:06:10And I was like, hey, what's up?
01:06:12Monster.
01:06:12You don't realize how big these guys are.
01:06:14Rovelo does.
01:06:15Huge guy.
01:06:15I give him a handshake.
01:06:16I'm like, oh, that's a pretty big guy.
01:06:17You know, hey, what's up?
01:06:18You know, we've dropped.
01:06:19So next thing you know, we're having a good time.
01:06:20You know, a couple adult beverages.
01:06:23Next thing I know, for whatever reason, I think it's a good idea.
01:06:27I'm like, hey, man, any chance I could hit you with one of those Ric Flair chops?
01:06:30You know, because you know, you watch the rest of it.
01:06:32They just come.
01:06:32He goes, all right.
01:06:33He goes, why don't you do that for me?
01:06:34He goes, backhand, knife-edge.
01:06:35He goes, no, he goes like this.
01:06:36He goes, hit me as hard as you can right here.
01:06:38Yeah.
01:06:39He goes, and I go, oh, man, this is incredible.
01:06:40Thank you so much.
01:06:41You know?
01:06:42So he's like, okay.
01:06:43He goes, here's the deal.
01:06:45You hit me, I get to hit you back.
01:06:46Oh, no.
01:06:47Done.
01:06:47No, but at that moment, I was like, that sounds awesome.
01:06:50I'm like, I back up, I just crow-hopped the scene.
01:06:54I'm like, here we go, man.
01:06:55Boom.
01:06:56I hit him as hard as I can.
01:06:57I'm like, actually, I felt like I hit a brick wall.
01:07:00I was like, ooh, that's a good one.
01:07:01Was he bare-chested?
01:07:02No, he wasn't bare-chested.
01:07:03I mean, I hit him.
01:07:04It was like hitting a brick wall.
01:07:05So now I'm like, I got a real problem, because he's going to hit me.
01:07:08Yeah.
01:07:08He's like, all right, are you ready?
01:07:09I'm like, yeah.
01:07:10And I'm like, all right, hear me.
01:07:12He doesn't crow-hop or anything, just real nice and easy.
01:07:16Boom.
01:07:17He hits me.
01:07:18I go, oh.
01:07:21I'm going down in the hotel restaurant.
01:07:25I'm serious, dude.
01:07:25I think I'm having a- I'm like, this isn't good.
01:07:27So, and all of a sudden, I hear Tim Wakefield go, hey, I want one of those.
01:07:30And I can't talk, because I've been hit so hard.
01:07:32I was like, I'd rather be hit with Randy Johnson in the ribs at 100.
01:07:36That bad, huh?
01:07:37And I go to Tim Wakefield, no, you don't.
01:07:39No, you don't.
01:07:40You don't want that.
01:07:40And next thing you know, boom!
01:07:42He hits Wake.
01:07:43Wake drops.
01:07:44He just starts dropping, guys.
01:07:45And I'm like, we've got to get out of here, boys.
01:07:47We've got to get out of here.
01:07:48John Cena's on the loop.
01:07:49John Cena's chopping everybody.
01:07:52Yeah, you don't want that kind of heel.
01:07:54What do we learn from that?
01:07:56You don't want to get chopped.
01:07:57You don't want to get chopped by a WWE champion.
01:08:02These guys are bigger and tougher than you think.
01:08:05Way bigger and tough.
01:08:05Deep breath.
01:08:06Never have I ever made four errors in a game.
01:08:08I know who this is.
01:08:10Who did that?
01:08:11Are you, sir?
01:08:12That's me?
01:08:12Or Thomas.
01:08:14Yes, I did.
01:08:15I mean, listen.
01:08:16The Colorado scorer, whoever you are, could have been a little sweeter to me.
01:08:22But early in my career, I played third base in Colorado.
01:08:26I was with the Atlanta Braves.
01:08:29God, I don't even remember at this point.
01:08:31But it was like two in one play case.
01:08:33You know, you're out at third and it's boom, boom, off the chest.
01:08:37Pick it up.
01:08:38Throw it away.
01:08:38Air mail.
01:08:40Diver, air mail.
01:08:42By the sixth inning, people are chanting.
01:08:46Rocky's place is packed on a Sunday.
01:08:48They're chanting, hit the ball to third.
01:08:51I am standing fully naked.
01:08:54How was that a chant?
01:08:55It was a chant.
01:08:56Hit the ball to third.
01:08:57Hit the ball to third.
01:08:58I am standing full nude out at third base.
01:09:02Like, here we are.
01:09:04Just drink this in.
01:09:05You're the worst player in the game right now.
01:09:07I can't even imagine that.
01:09:08I make four.
01:09:10I come walking into the dugout.
01:09:12Bobby Cox goes, hey, you just tied the record for most errors by an Atlanta Brave.
01:09:16I don't want to see you break it.
01:09:18That's nice.
01:09:18Took me out of the game.
01:09:19That was nice.
01:09:21Said, go get a beer.
01:09:22That's nice.
01:09:23And B.J. Serhoff walked up to me and goes, you're now officially a big leaguer.
01:09:27I said, I am.
01:09:28He goes, you literally just stood naked in front of 40,000 people.
01:09:32That's great perspective.
01:09:33And they wore you out.
01:09:34Oh, my gosh.
01:09:34You're going to drive to highs and lows.
01:09:36All right.
01:09:37My dad, mind you, my parents were at a destination wedding to go to that night.
01:09:43My dad didn't leave the room.
01:09:46He didn't go to the wedding.
01:09:47My mom went to the wedding.
01:09:48He didn't want to show his face.
01:09:50He didn't want to show his face.
01:09:51He was embarrassed for the last name.
01:09:54That's excessive.
01:09:54That's excessive.
01:09:56All right.
01:09:56You imagine?
01:09:57Never have I ever tipped poorly.
01:10:00Oh, man.
01:10:00I'm sorry, guys.
01:10:01This is me.
01:10:02I have a great tipper now.
01:10:03This is a big lesson back in the day.
01:10:04So, I'm going out.
01:10:06I'm going out.
01:10:07I'm going out after my first big league game.
01:10:09I'm walking.
01:10:09I got my bag in hand.
01:10:11And I'm walking to the bus.
01:10:12I'm sweating.
01:10:13And I go.
01:10:14And remember this guy named Jeff Mantle.
01:10:15Mick Mantle.
01:10:16Right?
01:10:17Great guy.
01:10:17Who doesn't know Jeff Mantle?
01:10:18He goes to me.
01:10:19He goes, hey, where are you going?
01:10:20I go, I'm going on the bus.
01:10:21Nine o'clock bus.
01:10:22Like 8.55.
01:10:23He goes, you don't touch your bags in the show.
01:10:26He's like, get back up to your room and call the bellman.
01:10:28So, I got two.
01:10:29I got.
01:10:29I'm like, are you serious?
01:10:30I'm serious.
01:10:31He was serious.
01:10:31I'm like, oh, my God.
01:10:32So, I go.
01:10:33I'm about to get on the elevator.
01:10:34I go, Jeff, how much do I tip him?
01:10:35He goes, two bucks a bag.
01:10:37So, I got a backpack.
01:10:38I think.
01:10:38I called the bellman.
01:10:39Sean Casey, this guy comes up.
01:10:41Bellman's there.
01:10:41Bam.
01:10:42I give the guy four bucks.
01:10:44Right?
01:10:44This is 1997, guys.
01:10:45Anyway.
01:10:46Boom.
01:10:47Next CNO.
01:10:48Next CNO.
01:10:49I just.
01:10:49They didn't go.
01:10:50I just.
01:10:53Just make the bus.
01:10:54Boom.
01:10:55Seven years later.
01:10:57Adam Dunn, Ryan Dempster, Austin Currens come up.
01:10:59We're getting ready to go to dinner.
01:11:00I got boys coming in my room.
01:11:01We'll go.
01:11:01And then we'll get ready to go downstairs.
01:11:03Boom.
01:11:03Here comes the bellman.
01:11:04Two bags.
01:11:05I'm making 8.5 million at the time.
01:11:08Guy comes out.
01:11:09I'm like, hey, Mr. Casey.
01:11:10I'm like, hey, man.
01:11:11Thanks so much.
01:11:12You're the best, man.
01:11:12You guys are great here in Chicago.
01:11:14Here's two bucks.
01:11:15Here's one, two, three, four bucks.
01:11:17Don't spend it all in one place.
01:11:19So, the guy starts to walk away.
01:11:20And Dunner goes, you just give that guy.
01:11:23Four bucks?
01:11:25And I go, yeah, bro.
01:11:26It's two bucks a bag.
01:11:27He goes, not when you're making 8.5 million dollars.
01:11:31It's not.
01:11:31I go, are you serious?
01:11:32I go, Jeff Mantle told me eight years ago it's two bucks a bag.
01:11:35I've been paying everybody two bucks a bag for seven years in the big leagues.
01:11:38I've got to clean.
01:11:39I've got to clean.
01:11:39I've got to clean.
01:11:39So, next year.
01:11:40I've got to clean.
01:11:41Now, you're handing out 50.
01:11:42Oh, dude.
01:11:42I started handing out 100.
01:11:43Like, from now, I made up for the next five years.
01:11:46I was given a hundies.
01:11:47There it goes, 200.
01:11:49Time for the bag.
01:11:50You were Lloyd Christmas.
01:11:51There you go.
01:11:52You learned.
01:11:53That's an IOU.
01:11:54You might want to hold on to that one.
01:11:55Four bucks a bag, guys.
01:11:56Four bucks a bag.
01:11:57Let's get it.
01:11:57You guys don't have any stories?
01:11:59This is the only way I want to go camping.
01:12:01With you guys.
01:12:02With you guys.
01:12:03I don't want.
01:12:03I don't want to go camping.
01:12:04That's it.
01:12:05At all.
01:12:05That's it.
01:12:06There's no stories from you.
01:12:07No, we're perfect.
01:12:09We're perfect.
01:12:10We're perfect.
01:12:10We're gonna make a wrap.
01:12:12We're gonna keep this going, but eventually I'm gonna have to hear Robert's skeletons.
01:12:17Oh, yeah.
01:12:18I've got some.
01:12:19Robert's skeletons.
01:12:20Hey, Ken Murphy Jr.

01:18:01¡Hoy a prove that they say city is the new smoking!
01:18:09¡Everbody who still smokes which is random!

01:18:15¡What are you doing?
01:18:17¡What is this?
01:18:20¡Oh jeez!
01:18:21I mean, is this what we're doing, guys?
01:18:26That makes you guys laugh because you're always on the field.
01:18:28He wanted it.
01:18:30You're going to separate a shoulder on the berm?
01:18:32He wanted it.
01:18:35I actually think if I was with my daughter or something, I'm doing it.
01:18:38I'm going, I'm that guy right there.
01:18:40I don't want someone's foot in my back.
01:18:47This hot dog brought his own mustard to the game, apparently.
01:18:51No.
01:18:53Yeah, this one and the Hulk Hogan costumes, I'm done with.
01:18:57You know what, two guys, Eric Burns told me if you drink that muster right there,
01:19:00it gets rid of cramps.
01:19:02So if that guy gets a cramp, he's in business, let's chug that muster, he's in business.
01:19:06Eric Burns knows a lot about cars, about car warranty repairs, and cramps.
01:19:13If you want all-star hot dog content, you have to have this guy.
01:19:18Yeah, this is, um, I don't think this should be in the, this guy should be in the, uh, in
01:19:23the Hall of Fame.
01:19:24Think about this.
01:19:25Think about what?
01:19:26This is...
01:19:26He's straw-dogging.
01:19:28This is, this is a viral setup.
01:19:30That's set so, that's diabolical right there.
01:19:33No one in their right mind would do that.
01:19:36That is a diabolical image to be putting out in public.
01:19:40He's putting it on his, like, I saw the juice on his pants.
01:19:44Did you see his pants?
01:19:45He had, like, hot dog water on it.
01:19:47Oh, my God.
01:19:47I don't understand this one.
01:19:49He had what?
01:19:50Hot dog water?
01:19:50Yeah.
01:19:51I understand that.
01:19:53In your pocket, you know, just not.
01:19:55I understand that.
01:19:56You understand a hot dog in a bargain?
01:19:58I gotta have two.
01:20:00No one's ever done that in the history of the world.
01:20:02And he pulls it out of his pocket and puts it in his mouth like it's no big deal.
01:20:07It's a very big deal.
01:20:09Don't you wash your clothes, dude?
01:20:11Yeah, but it's just the, it's just the image.
01:20:14It's just not.
01:20:16I don't know.
01:20:17No, you wouldn't do that real quick?
01:20:18You definitely wouldn't do that real quick.
01:20:19No, absolutely.
01:20:20The hot dog straw is stupid.
01:20:22It makes it taste.
01:20:24Oh, my God.
01:20:25I can't even imagine, like, what the...
01:20:26Can you imagine wrapping your lips around that, doing that?
01:20:30All right, let's go to break.
01:20:34Is this re-air free?
01:20:35I don't know.

01:21:11Let's run through them.
01:21:12Edward Cabrera over under five and a half strikeouts.
01:21:17What do you think, Dero?
01:21:18Taking on the Mets.
01:21:20Mets have the 11th lowest case percentage on the C.
01:21:23Yeah, give me Edward Cabrera.
01:21:24Okay.
01:21:25He's been awesome.
01:21:25He has not struck out more than five batters in any of his three starts this year.
01:21:30But maybe today.
01:21:30His pitch counts have been high.
01:21:32Yeah.
01:21:32That's a commodity game.
01:21:33Like fifth inning.
01:21:34He's at 90 pitches already.
01:21:36Yeah.
01:21:36Gunnar Henderson to record at least two total bases.
01:21:40Taking on Tanner Bybee and the Guardians.
01:21:42You got to take this one.
01:21:43There's history here.
01:21:44Four for nine.
01:21:45Two doubles.
01:21:46A bomb.
01:21:48Slugging 500 with six homers in 19 games this year.
01:21:50By the way, our friend of the program, Jeremiah Jackson, went deep again.
01:21:55Saw that.
01:21:56A couple of days ago.
01:21:57Good for him.
01:21:58Mike Trout, speaking of going deep.
01:22:00He won with the homer yesterday.
01:22:02He did.
01:22:02And when you said it, I was like, no way.
01:22:05Not again.
01:22:05And you did it.
01:22:06I sent him a text and I said, my text was, my God.
01:22:10And he sent me back the eyeball emojis.
01:22:14That's it?
01:22:15That's all he gave you?
01:22:16Yeah.
01:22:16What's your favorite emoji?
01:22:18I like the monkey that closes his eyes like that.
01:22:22I like the flexing bicep.

01:22:45Pleasant lady sits down next to me and that actually offers me food.
01:22:50It was like a little banana muffin.
01:22:53Sorry.
01:22:53Next thing you know, you wake up, you're in Istanbul with no clothes on.
01:22:58Is that an elephant?
01:22:59Nope.
01:22:59That's Shea Bangalier.
01:23:01You know who's highly aggressive when threatened?
01:23:03Me.
01:23:03Tyler Soderstrom.
01:23:05I'm too stuffed now, D.
01:23:05You got me too stuffed.
01:23:07Were you thinking when you stepped out of the box in that moment, like if I don't hit it
01:23:10two homers tonight, there's a good chance I get released?
01:23:12Yeah, I didn't know what was going to happen.
01:23:14There was a lot of emotions.
01:23:16I mean, he's a dog.
01:23:16He ate it.
01:23:17With everybody saying L. Lee Delacruz.
01:23:21Yeah.
01:23:21He stung himself with bees as an anti-inflammatory.
01:23:24And he was hot.
01:23:25He's hot on TV.
01:23:27He was.
01:23:28He's built a hair doll in your likeness.
01:23:31Judge is able to never move his head.
01:23:33This comes up, boom, down, and the head stays on everything.
01:23:38The ball never bounces.
01:23:40We've moved the strike zone back eight and a half inches to a two-dimensional plane.
01:23:44Yeah.
01:23:44So that front, you know, those off-speed pitches might have been strikes at the front of the
01:23:48plate last year are now balls.
01:23:51I'm a Gemini.
01:23:51Crazy.
01:23:53Robert, I'm a cancer.
01:23:55Yes, you are.
01:23:56Was your hot dog machine also malfunctioning?
01:23:58No.
01:23:58We go, John.
01:23:59You go, we go.
01:24:00I'll never do that again, John.
01:24:02I woke up.
01:24:03You woke up.
01:24:03Wanting to be great.
01:24:04Great today.
01:24:05The people in the control room chose another way to go about their business.
01:24:09That is so ridiculous.
01:24:09I'm kidding.
01:24:10I'm kidding.
01:24:11That is so ridiculous.
01:24:14What a week.
01:24:19Oh, jeez.
01:24:20All right.
01:24:21We've been together too long.
01:24:23I'm not kidding.
01:24:24We literally say the same things.
01:24:28Oh, my gosh.
01:24:29Robert, you had a week.
01:24:30Yeah, it was a lot.
01:24:31I hope you're back on Monday.
01:24:32Well, I mean, if I'm not.
01:24:34Wait, what does that mean?
01:24:35I mean, we were getting.
01:24:35We were getting.
01:24:36One hour show on Monday.
01:24:37You're back.
01:24:38We're definitely back.
01:24:39I mean, he wins towing the line the entire year.
01:24:43He does.
01:24:43He has the craziest.
01:24:44No one's got more quick towing the line than row flow.
01:24:47That's right.
01:24:48It's always a high wire act.
01:24:49You never know.
01:24:50I keep thinking of the Mets with the Sage at Citi Field.
01:24:53That's a good idea.
01:24:54No, I'm doing it.
01:24:55Hey, have a great weekend, everyone.
01:24:57We will be back on Monday.
