00:00:01Happy Friday. Welcome to MLB Central.
00:00:03Cleveland wins again.
00:00:05Why the Guardians are a bunch of thrill-seekers.
00:00:08J.P. Barrosi has an American League team
00:00:10that could be a surprise suitor for Tarek Skubal.
00:00:13And has Kyle Tucker fixed his early-season swoon?
00:00:17Yonder Alonso says maybe.
00:00:20Plus, the Orioles cooked us up a feast.
00:00:22Give us your best Baltimore accent.
00:00:24I want to talk more about this outfit you've got on there.
00:00:28It looks like a picnic table.
00:00:30Yes, you do.
00:00:31You look like Daisy Mae or something like that.
00:00:35Looks great.
00:00:54Let's end the week together.
00:00:56Tablecloth.
00:00:56On the Christmas velvet.
00:00:57It looks like a tablecloth.
00:00:59Let's have a day.
00:01:00MLB Central presented by The Home Depot.
00:01:03It's not Daisy Mae.
00:01:04It's Ellie Mae.
00:01:05Mark DeRosa.
00:01:06I'm Lauren Shahadi.
00:01:06How are we doing?
00:01:07I'm doing fantastic.
00:01:09We are leading you into the holiday weekend.
00:01:11Because this guy felt like being a hero.
00:01:14Explain yourself.
00:01:15Tell him.
00:01:16Well, about what?
00:01:17Six weeks ago?
00:01:18We get a text from our bosses.
00:01:19They say, do you want to do a show on July 3rd?
00:01:23We lay out.
00:01:24I didn't even know.
00:01:25Well, you don't read your text all that.
00:01:27So, Robert says.
00:01:29A thumbs up.
00:01:30And I quote.
00:01:31If there's a show, I'll be there.
00:01:34So, now what can we say?
00:01:35We have to say yes.
00:01:38And then Robert says after.
00:01:39We're like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:01:40We'll be there.
00:01:41Robert says after.
00:01:42I was hoping you guys would say no.
00:01:44And I would look great.
00:01:46I didn't know that was even an option.
00:01:49That I wouldn't look great.
00:01:50That we didn't have to be a gamer today.
00:01:53I drove down the shore.
00:01:55Tell us.
00:01:55Yesterday, my brother said, get down here.
00:01:58Aw.
00:01:58So, I drove down.
00:02:00He sent me right into a bomb.
00:02:03Which I sat in two and a half hours of traffic.
00:02:05Because everybody's apparently going down the Jersey Shore.
00:02:08Got down there.
00:02:09It was absolutely gorgeous.
00:02:10It was stifling hot.
00:02:11But not on the sand.
00:02:12Because of the breeze off the water.
00:02:14The water temp, just so people know if they're going down the Jersey Shore.
00:02:18It's 58 degrees.
00:02:20No, it's a cold plunge.
00:02:22Really?
00:02:22And there was supposedly a shark looming.
00:02:26So, you went in?
00:02:27Basking shark.
00:02:28So, supposedly those don't bite.
00:02:30But I don't know who identified.
00:02:32I'm saying shark.
00:02:33That shark doesn't bite.
00:02:34Is that like from Basking and Robbins?
00:02:36Like the ice cream?
00:02:37I used to have bubblegum ice cream from there all the time.
00:02:40What is it?
00:02:4027 flavors?
00:02:41Then we went and got pizza.
00:02:42The Nino's.
00:02:43There you go.
00:02:43Brick.
00:02:44Hour, 45 minute.
00:02:45Wait.
00:02:46I said no.
00:02:46Your life is like a movie.
00:02:48Hour and 45 minutes.
00:02:49How much?
00:02:50Oh, stop.
00:02:51Whatever.
00:02:52I can't even.
00:02:52And you got in?
00:02:5330 minutes.
00:02:54Nice.
00:02:55Come on.
00:02:55Change people's lives.
00:02:56How much is it?
00:02:5731 flavors.
00:02:58$50?
00:02:58Basking and Robbins.
00:02:59Can we not talk about this?
00:03:00$200?
00:03:01Oh, this makes me so uncomfortable.
00:03:02$200.
00:03:04God, you're rich.
00:03:05No.
00:03:07I go down there once every two months.
00:03:09You're not ruining my night.
00:03:11Let's go to Los Angeles.
00:03:12I had it like that.
00:03:13I'd be cool.
00:03:13Oh, stop.
00:03:14Wake it up, America.
00:03:15Let's go.
00:03:16For an NOS rivalry that never disappoints to the city of Angels where it was San Diego first.
00:03:23So weird.
00:03:24That's a perfect description.
00:03:25Manny Machado, top of the first.
00:03:27Saki was getting beat up.
00:03:28Yeah.
00:03:28Four-seam fast.
00:03:29He knows exactly what to do with it.
00:03:3117 on the year for Manny.
00:03:33And the Padres take a 2-0 lead.
00:03:35And the Dodgers, to your guys' point, have been trying to figure out rookie Saki, right?
00:03:39The ups and downs.
00:03:41The 1-0 pitch to Jackson Merrill.
00:03:43They certainly, Doc Roberts said they're going to do a little bit of a deep dive because he
00:03:46had just pitched against them.
00:03:47Maybe they had something on him.
00:03:50He's got to work on his body language on the bump.
00:03:55Jake Cronenworth, the Cronen zone.
00:03:57Let's go.
00:03:57Padres putting together some offense.
00:03:58Blood and the water, you start leaning, you know?
00:04:01You see that as the Padres, you're like, finish him.
00:04:04My three home runs allowed by Sasaki in two innings, and the Padres lead at 6-0.
00:04:08Dodgers making a comeback.
00:04:10They're starting rolling.
00:04:11Andy Paz, they finished with 17 hits.
00:04:14They were down 6-0, finished with 17 hits.
00:04:17The lineup is just so long.
00:04:21Everyone can beat you.
00:04:23Everyone.
00:04:23RBI double to center by Mookie and the Dodgers take the lead 7-6.
00:04:27Max Muncy, 2 RBI for him on Thursday.
00:04:31RBI single to center.
00:04:33Bet scores.
00:04:33Dodgers extend their lead 8-6.
00:04:36They turned a 6-run deficit into a 5-run win.
00:04:40Dalton rushing.
00:04:41Have a day.
00:04:42Three for three.
00:04:42Make it four for four.
00:04:44Bottom of the eighth.
00:04:45He's all over the bottom of the scores.
00:04:49Literally, figuratively, he is like in it.
00:04:5312-7, not as high as the Randy Vasquez started this game.
00:04:57He got hit by a comebacker in the ankle.
00:04:58He did stay in to pitch, but as a precaution, they took him in to check him out.
00:05:02And per Craig Stammen, he was on his way to get that x-ray on his ankle and fainted.
00:05:08He's currently stable.
00:05:09He's conscious, but was taken to the emergency room as a precaution.
00:05:12Have you ever been around anybody who's fainted?
00:05:14I fainted all the time.
00:05:15It's kind of scary.
00:05:17I've had about 10 of them in my lifetime.
00:05:19Really?
00:05:20Truly, yes.
00:05:20And you know you're about to faint.
00:05:22You kind of get on the floor, and so we wish him well.
00:05:24We certainly wish him well.
00:05:26It's usually heat-related, too, for me.
00:05:29I fainted at the slum.
00:05:31What snarky comment you got going right now?
00:05:34I faint all the time.
00:05:35We're going to disturb.
00:05:37White Sox, Guardians, Travis Mazzano.
00:05:40That's doubling down the line.
00:05:42Patrick Bailey scores.
00:05:431-0 Cleveland.
00:05:45By the way, these two teams, they just will play one-run games.
00:05:49That's all they play when these two get together so far this season.
00:05:53Friend of the program, Sam Antonacci.
00:05:55Oh!
00:05:57Doubles off the wall.
00:05:58Here comes Tristan Peters.
00:06:00White Sox down 2-1.
00:06:02Two batters later, Kyle Teal.
00:06:04We talk about the Dodgers' length.
00:06:07Oh, their lineup.
00:06:08The White Sox.
00:06:09They have some pieces here.
00:06:11Have a chance to do special things this year, but you can see the future.
00:06:15Chase Mydroff.
00:06:17How did this get out?
00:06:18They got the number one pick in the draft, too.
00:06:21That's a good point, too.
00:06:21I did not think this ball was getting out, but it did.
00:06:25Seventh home run of the year.
00:06:26I think we're going to say Brock.
00:06:27Jalowski.
00:06:27In the seventh, David Fry on to pinch hit.
00:06:31Lefty killer.
00:06:32Got him.
00:06:34So that right there cuts the lead to 5-4.
00:06:40By the way, he's not in the highlight.
00:06:41But Chase DeLauter has an 11-game hitting streak.
00:06:45He's hitting .378.
00:06:46All right.
00:06:46Grant Taylor trying to close it out.
00:06:49A runner's on first.
00:06:50Brian Rocchio.
00:06:52Classic.
00:06:53In the ninth.
00:06:54Second career.
00:06:55Went in doubt.
00:06:57Brian Rocchio.
00:06:57His first walk-off was the homer that clinched the division title in the final game of last
00:07:05year's regular season.
00:07:07The Guardians, their second walk-off win of the year.
00:07:106-5 over the White Sox.
00:07:15He's one of the tough pitches that I face.
00:07:18So I got to be on foul ball every time.
00:07:22And he throwed my pitch in that situation.
00:07:25And I didn't miss.
00:07:26I thought he did a little harder.
00:07:28But now, like, I know they were flying today and this week.
00:07:32So I thought that's a foul.
00:07:34I don't know if it was a fair.
00:07:36But I know that's a home.
00:07:36Clearly, that's your foul ball right here.
00:07:38Was it the foul ball?
00:07:39I didn't say foul.
00:07:40Yeah.
00:07:41It's the rope ball.
00:07:43That's a deja vu.
00:07:45Brian Rocchio talking about it's been a tough week.
00:07:49He is from Venezuela.
00:07:50And obviously, they are still dealing with the aftermath of that devastating earthquake.
00:07:55And these AL Central standings look like this.
00:07:58Yeah, the Twins are hanging around, 42 and 46.
00:08:00But the White Sox and the Guardians, I believe that's their fourth or fifth game decided by
00:08:07one run between the two teams.
00:08:09Well, that's what the Guardians do, right?
00:08:10Right.
00:08:11They've played 29 one-run games.
00:08:14They're 15 and 14.
00:08:14That's a tough way to make a living.
00:08:16I'm driving up the parkway last night at around 10.30 at night.
00:08:19I called Devin, our producer.
00:08:23And he goes, you know, these are like thrill-seeking type games every time.
00:08:28He's like, ask Robert if he's a thrill-seeker.
00:08:31I think I kind of know the answer to that.
00:08:34What do you think?
00:08:34So no skydiving on the docket?
00:08:37I don't need to do all that.
00:08:37I'm fine.
00:08:38You've never rock climbed?
00:08:39No.
00:08:40Shark cage dived?
00:08:41Hell no.
00:08:43Yeah?
00:08:43He's a man of leisure.
00:08:45Exactly.
00:08:45I'm a scaredy cat.
00:08:47I'm not.
00:08:48I turned down a skydiving one time.
00:08:50Yeah.
00:08:50White water raft?
00:08:51Yeah, I've done that.
00:08:52I went snorkeling.
00:08:53That's enough.
00:08:53That's enough thrill-seeking.
00:09:04They are.
00:09:05So I want to dive in.
00:09:06It's when you think Cleveland.
00:09:07Yes, because when you think Cleveland, you think extreme?
00:09:10Extreme sports.
00:09:11So we're going tandem skydiving with the starting rotation.
00:09:15Hey, interesting.
00:09:17Guardians starting rotation over their last 12 games, they have a 2.82 ERA with a 5.92 opponent OPS.
00:09:24But I think the bigger story for these guys from Gavin Williams to Tanner Bybee to Joey Cantillo
00:09:30to Slade Ciccone taking a bump yesterday.
00:09:33All of them, Parker Messick's been awesome for this team.
00:09:37Nobody else has started a game.
00:09:39All five of these guys have made every start.
00:09:42And when you get the confidence on the bump who's taking it every time, your team gets in
00:09:47a flow and gets in a rhythm.
00:09:49And the offense understands how many runs they've got to put up on the board for these guys.
00:09:53Okay, so they're tandem skydiving.
00:09:55And I'm in on Slade Ciccone, the No. 5 starter for this team.
00:10:00I know occasionally he'll have a clunker, but he competes his push-off.
00:10:04And he wants the moment.
00:10:05We had him on the set at Yankee Stadium.
00:10:08Cade Smith.
00:10:10I looked up what extreme sports happen in Vancouver because that's where he's from.
00:10:15Yeah.
00:10:15Rock climbing.
00:10:16Duh.
00:10:16All right.
00:10:17Who didn't know that?
00:10:18Last 30 appearances for Cade Smith.
00:10:21A 2-2-3 ERA.
00:10:2323 saves.
00:10:24He's punching out guys at almost 14 Ks per nine.
00:10:29We got Austin Hedges.
00:10:31Austin Hedges was born in San Juan Capistrano.
00:10:34You know what happens there?
00:10:36Come on.
00:10:36Big wave surfing.
00:10:37He could either take, and he takes Patrick Bailey with him to introduce him.
00:10:41He's either going big wave surfing at Salt Creek Beach down at Dana Point or maybe the lower trestles in
00:10:47San Clemente.
00:10:48I don't know.
00:10:49But I do know this.
00:10:52He's killing it this year from an offensive standpoint.
00:10:55270.
00:10:55270 with an OPS north of 100.
00:10:58Little white water rafting for Kyle Manzardo and Stephen Kwan.
00:11:02You want to know why?
00:11:03Kyle Manzardo is from Porto Wayne, Idaho.
00:11:06Some of the best white water rafting is in Idaho.
00:11:09Really?
00:11:10I didn't know that either until I Googled.
00:11:12It could be wrong.
00:11:13Stephen Kwan went to Oregon State.
00:11:15I know for a fact Oregon, Corvallis, Eugene.
00:11:18You can get on some white water rafting out there.
00:11:21And Manzardo the Gardo since the start of June.
00:11:24358 on base with five bombs and 833 OPS.
00:11:29You know where Travis Bazzon is going.
00:11:31They don't bite.
00:11:32Don't worry.
00:11:32He's from Australia.
00:11:34I snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef.
00:11:36Why is that funny?
00:11:37I told you dead.
00:11:38You didn't do it with Travis Bazzon, though.
00:11:41I didn't.
00:11:413.46 on base, percentage of 114 OPS plus in 56 games.
00:11:46He plays with the mean on.
00:11:48I'm in.
00:11:48And Chase the Lauder.
00:11:49Yeah.
00:11:50We're bringing you along.
00:11:51Travis said, hey, come over to Australia.
00:11:53Let me teach you a thing or two about great whites.
00:11:56It's a grueling white.
00:11:57It is a grueling white.
00:12:00Last 50 games for Chase the Lauder, a 3-51 on base, and just 27 strikeouts.
00:12:06All right.
00:12:07You know what we're doing right here?
00:12:08I don't.
00:12:09We're storm chasing.
00:12:11Jose Ramirez has stared down the storms multiple times before, but we know he's nicked up.
00:12:16But we had to put him in the car with Brian Rocchio.
00:12:20He's teaching him, hey, in big moments, slow the heart rate down, no panic, and hit a ball off the
00:12:27right field foul pole.
00:12:28And that's what Brian Rocchio did yesterday, career-high OPS 106 as of right now, and a 2.5 war
00:12:36player this season.
00:12:37So, some of the parts for the Guardians.
00:12:41But at the end of the day, when you look at their starting rotation, I think it's super interesting that
00:12:45all five guys has made every start.
00:12:47They all kind of feed into the rhythm and timing of what Stephen Boat's trying to accomplish.
00:12:52And even yesterday.
00:12:53This is going down to the wire.
00:12:54Going down to the wire.
00:12:55Don't even sleep on the twins.
00:12:57And I still think Detroit gets back in this, but the trade deadline is going to let us know what
00:13:03Scott Harris thinks.
00:13:05Even yesterday, it was like a plan B because they wanted length from their starter.
00:13:09They had to go to the bullpen, and the bullpen did their job.
00:13:11Yep.
00:13:11What's your extreme sport of choice?
00:13:17Probably when I'm working the remote, and I can fast forward with something that's been DVR'd, and I skip immediately
00:13:28past the commercial, and I'll land right back into programming.
00:13:32When I was in Eugene, Oregon, my first year, 96, short season A, we all lived in one apartment complex.
00:13:39And the manager of the apartment complex also had a skydiving-like school.
00:13:46Half the team went, and I chickened out.
00:13:49I'm like, I'm not going down like that.
00:13:51Yes, I do.
00:13:52Because I won't do it now.
00:13:54Something's happened as I've gotten older.
00:13:56I was told your equilibrium as you get older makes you a little bit more fearful of heights.
00:14:01I don't know.
00:14:03That could be a complete lie.
00:14:05It's okay.
00:14:06Wouldn't be the first time on this show.
00:14:08You do a lot of WebMD stuff, don't you?
00:14:11Often we go on Thursday for Rays and Royals.
00:14:15It was hot.
00:14:16Oh, we're in a simulation, Robert.
00:14:18You don't know that?
00:14:18You got a team that's hotter than hot.
00:14:20You got a lid.
00:14:20We're all going down from the window.
00:14:22To the walls.
00:14:24To the walls.
00:14:25Rays put up three in the second inning.
00:14:27A line drive double.
00:14:29The glove and the run scores and the Rays even it up at one run apiece.
00:14:34Up next.
00:14:35Say it.
00:14:36Say it.
00:14:36Not my Rays.
00:14:37Not my Rays.
00:14:38Not my Rays.
00:14:44Not my Rays.
00:14:50To right field.
00:14:51The catch almost going back.
00:14:55I missed.
00:14:56And Palacio scores.
00:14:57And the Rays go up three to one.
00:15:00See them working top of the fifth.
00:15:01Cedric Mullins.
00:15:02Runner on second with two outs.
00:15:04Everyone in this highlight you have a fun saying for it.
00:15:06He's starting to get locked in here a little bit offensively.
00:15:09A two run shot to right field.
00:15:12And Tampa Bay extends their lead five to one.
00:15:15Remember last week the Rays bid for a combined no hitter.
00:15:19Ian Seymour followed up that with this.
00:15:23Six innings.
00:15:24Three hits.
00:15:24One run.
00:15:25Eight strikeouts.
00:15:26And a walk dominant.
00:15:27Ian Seymour is going to show up on a board when we break down Bryce Miller.
00:15:31That I think is going to shock some people too.
00:15:33I can't wait for that breakdown because I feel like he is underappreciated.
00:15:36So we'll talk about him as well.
00:15:38Rays be ran right to the top of the ALE standings.
00:15:41Last eight games look like this.
00:15:43If the season ended today, the Rays would not have to play in the wild card round.
00:15:47Right to the division series.
00:15:49And they have earned it.
00:15:51Such dynamic talent.
00:15:53Junior Caminero did not go deep last night.
00:15:58How dare him.
00:15:58I know.
00:15:59Rays are in Houston, America's most beautiful city this weekend.
00:16:02That's another lie.
00:16:04That's the biggest lie you've got on it.
00:16:07Absolutely not.
00:16:07Hey, up next, JP Marossi has a surprise team that could be in the mix for Tarek Skubal at the
00:16:13deadline.
00:16:13And which AL contender would be a perfect fit for Luis Araiz.
00:16:18And later, his nickname is Merlin.
00:16:22As Merlin Valdez continues his magical start to his career.
00:16:28How he helped the Pirates get a win in Philly against the Phillies.
00:16:31And it's Friday.
00:16:33You know what that means.
00:16:35We're eating good.
00:16:36We're laughing at you.
00:16:38I mean, we're laughing with you.
00:16:39It's all coming together.
00:16:41It's time and a half Friday for the floor crew.
00:16:44And, hey, you're welcome, guys.
00:16:46Robert, look at the time.
00:16:4810-17?
00:16:5010-17?
00:16:50That is crime A block real estate.
00:16:54Kevin, you outdid yourself, sir.
00:16:55What's the most beautiful city?
00:16:57I just said it.
00:16:58Houston.
00:16:58It's not Houston.
00:17:00I don't think we said that.
00:17:00San Diego.
00:17:01It's San Diego.
00:17:06You're watching MLB Central, presented by The Home Depot.
00:17:10We're glad you're with us on this holiday Friday.
00:17:13For those of you that are off today, maybe you're sleeping in.
00:17:15Maybe you're watching the show for the first time.
00:17:17Welcome.
00:17:17We want to remind you that tomorrow is the All-Star Selection Show on Fox, 730 Eastern.
00:17:24Next week, we can start taking the calendar dates off of this promo.
00:17:28So, hopefully, we have that to look forward to.
00:17:30A reminder that, for the first time, Netflix has the Home Run Derby.
00:17:36That's the day before the All-Star Game.
00:17:38Lauren is part of the broadcast.
00:17:40We've got the Red Carpet Show Tuesday afternoon right here on the network.
00:17:44And, of course, Fox has the game itself from Philadelphia.
00:17:47MLB Central will be there.
00:17:48Cannot wait to be in Philadelphia.
00:17:51I cannot wait.
00:17:52We have All-Star on the mind, but the trade deadline right after.
00:17:55And we have things to talk about.
00:17:56JP Marossi on the inside corner.
00:17:58Good Friday morning to you.
00:18:00The Pirates front and center again because they just got to 500.
00:18:03And I was thinking about it.
00:18:04If you judge their off-season moves, JP, they know what works for their club.
00:18:09So, now what?
00:18:10Lauren, good morning.
00:18:11And you're exactly right to draw that parallel between a very busy and, I would say, productive
00:18:16off-season for the Pirates and then what they could do at the trade deadline.
00:18:21I've been checking in with sources on this.
00:18:22And, again, last night I said, what are we hearing on the Pirates?
00:18:26And I was told they are planning to buy.
00:18:28They are planning to buy.
00:18:30And, at the moment, they are focused on bullpen.
00:18:33They want a little bit more swing and miss to help secure some games late.
00:18:38We all know how long it's been for them since they've returned to the postseason.
00:18:43We'll also talk about the strength and stability of their starting rotation.
00:18:48Yeah, it wasn't a great vintage skiing start last time out, but there's a lot to build on
00:18:53there as a rotation.
00:18:54So, if you add the right bullpen pieces around it, you've seen the Reds now fall back into
00:19:00the pack a little bit.
00:19:01It is still a pretty crowded wildcard picture.
00:19:04But, intriguingly, Lauren, some of the teams that are in that middle tier, along with the
00:19:10Pirates in the wildcard race, might actually sell.
00:19:13The Nationals could sell.
00:19:16The Marlins may actually sell in a limited way if they end up moving Sandy.
00:19:20So, the teams ahead of them may actually fall back.
00:19:23And, with the Pirates and bringing in Brandon Lau and how productive he's been, this might
00:19:27be their time to buy.
00:19:29And, again, last night I was told they are already out there looking for relievers.
00:19:33Oh, wow.
00:19:34Okay.
00:19:34A little bit more swing and miss if we had a quarter, right?
00:19:36Every time we heard that it's a division we will keep a watchful eye on.
00:19:40And, if we're looking to keep a watchful eye, enter Tarek Skubal.
00:19:43Every time, JP, we mention a team, I always think, wait, is that realistic?
00:19:48Could he really go there?
00:19:49Who's in?
00:19:50Who's realistically in and out?
00:19:52So, Lauren, you're the second person this morning to ask me this question.
00:19:56Wait, who's the first?
00:19:56I'll tell you a quick story about the first.
00:19:58So, I'm driving back.
00:20:00I went to the Portugal-Croatia World Cup match last night in Toronto.
00:20:03Yes.
00:20:04So, I drove back through the night.
00:20:06At about 3 a.m., I'm crossing the Ambassador Bridge.
00:20:09And, by the way, to answer the question, the A Block, Detroit is the most beautiful
00:20:12city in the country.
00:20:13Gorgeous view of the Detroit River coming over.
00:20:15That's another lie.
00:20:15Okay.
00:20:16So, I pull into the Customs Board of Protection.
00:20:19First question.
00:20:21Purpose of your visit is at the World Cup.
00:20:23Second question.
00:20:24Mr. Marossi, are the Tigers going to trade Skubal?
00:20:27That is not a word of a lie.
00:20:28That is not a word of a lie.
00:20:30So, I said, you've got to watch Central.
00:20:33I'll tell Lauren the answer to this question in just a few hours.
00:20:35So, the answer to that question is my surprise team on Skubal.
00:20:41And, I still think there's about a 60-40 chance, which is what I told our Customs Board
00:20:46of Protection people this morning, because I've got to be honest with them.
00:20:49I've got a 60-40 chance that Skubal has moved.
00:20:52And, the surprise team I've got for you to keep an eye on is the Tampa Bay Rays.
00:20:57You just talked about them in a previous segment.
00:20:59Yes, they've already got a really good rotation.
00:21:00But, remember back a few years ago, when there was whispers about the Rays or the Angels
00:21:08potentially moving Shohei Ohtani at the deadline.
00:21:11The Rays were the sneaky team on them.
00:21:13And, this is already a really good rotation.
00:21:16I've got it.
00:21:17But, you wonder about Griffin Jacks transitioning from the bullpen to starting.
00:21:20What will his innings look like?
00:21:22And, if you're going to make a big-time statement in the American League right now,
00:21:27you look around, there's not that many heavyweights at the moment
00:21:29in the American League.
00:21:31New ownership, new future for them in Tampa Bay.
00:21:34This might be the time for Eric Neander to be really aggressive.
00:21:37He's always very imaginative as a GM.
00:21:40I'm just telling you, do not be surprised if the Rays are one of the teams
00:21:43we're talking about in the early days of August.
00:21:46And, again, I'm already on record with the authorities as to giving that answer.
00:21:49So, I'm going to give it to you on the air as well.
00:21:51Wow.
00:21:52My takeaway from that story is you didn't get any sleep,
00:21:55and you're this joyful on the air.
00:21:56That's why you are the best teammate.
00:21:57I mean that.
00:21:58One of the many things we love about you.
00:21:59It's the names for the Giants that could go that we've tried to kind of narrow down.
00:22:04Is it Logan Webb?
00:22:04Is it Luisa Rays?
00:22:05What do we know right now at this hour?
00:22:08Well, let's go with Luisa Rays right now because in a market where there is not a lot of
00:22:13offensive talent out there, Luisa Rays, to me, stands out.
00:22:16He's had an all-star caliber offensive season for the San Francisco Giants,
00:22:22and notably he's been playing second base.
00:22:24Last year, of course, he was a first baseman in San Diego, but he's showing that he can still get
00:22:29it done defensively.
00:22:30He's actually been close to a league average defender at second base, which he faced some questions about.
00:22:35So, the fact that he's defending well has opened up even more possibilities.
00:22:40The Cubs are a possibility, depending on their needs as you get closer.
00:22:44I would highlight most of all, though, the Texas Rangers.
00:22:48The Rangers have now, with a really good surge in recent days, they've pulled even with the Mariners and even
00:22:54better at times in the American League West.
00:22:57They're looking for offense.
00:22:58They've had some injuries in their lineup.
00:22:59But the Rangers, to me, in an American League West where some teams have disappointed, the Rangers are now moving
00:23:06towards the top.
00:23:06So, I've got Luisa Reyes and the Rangers as a possible fit.
00:23:11And, yes, Lauren, I've got a handful of hours of sleep, but I could talk about the trade deadline any
00:23:15day.
00:23:15I'm energized by watching that great game last night and set for a wonderful happy Fourth of July weekend to
00:23:21you.
00:23:22Happy Fourth of July to you as well.
00:23:24We've got to go, but you watched the A-Block tape.
00:23:26Are you a thrill seeker, yes or no?
00:23:29I'm pretty boring.
00:23:30I would say no.
00:23:31It's so weird.
00:23:32Not dangerous.
00:23:33David Marossi on the inside corner.
00:23:34It's time to check out the Capital One walk-offs from this week.
00:23:38Enjoy.
00:23:44And nobody on the Red Sox somehow find a way against the Yankees.
00:23:51The Red Sox have completed a four-game sweep.
00:23:53Can you believe it?
00:23:55What a ball game.
00:23:56Suzuki hits a high-fly ball deep left.
00:23:59Going back, going at the wall.
00:24:01Leads off the wall.
00:24:03Cubs win.
00:24:04Cubs win.
00:24:05Say as Suzuki delivers.
00:24:08Ten walk-off of the year for the Cubs.
00:24:13Capital One is donating $1,000 to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for every walk-off this season.
00:24:22Approaching bottom of the hour.
00:24:23We've got a whole lot more show for you.
00:24:26Hey, Bryce Miller looking outstanding yet again.
00:24:30DeRozan breaks down his latest start against the Angels.
00:24:33What's working well?
00:24:34What's the ceiling for this talented writing?
00:24:39You're watching MLB Central.
00:24:40Happy July 4th.
00:24:53You're watching MLB Central presented by the Home Depot.
00:24:57Re-air edition of MLB Central.
00:24:59We'll be with you noon Eastern as well.
00:25:03You look like you're going on a yacht today.
00:25:05I would love to go on a yacht.
00:25:06But instead, we got the express train.
00:25:08Reds, Brewers.
00:25:09I saw this and I was shocked.
00:25:11Hey, Sal.
00:25:12Sal Stewart.
00:25:13Oppo off Jacob Mizorowski.
00:25:14How dare you.
00:25:15Yonder's coming on later on.
00:25:16Swing of the year for him.
00:25:17Sal Stewart is one home run shy of Frank Robinson's Reds rookie for homers before the All-Star.
00:25:23Sal's got to go to Jose Trevino.
00:25:25Billy, no.
00:25:26First time in a year, I think.
00:25:27Yeah.
00:25:28His first home run of the year.
00:25:29It's 5-0.
00:25:31T.J. Friedel got into the act.
00:25:34This is, I mean, Reds need to be.
00:25:35We've seen over the last couple of nights, especially this week.
00:25:38This is why you play the game.
00:25:39Schlittler got it handed to him.
00:25:42Miz gives up bombs.
00:25:43Chase Burns is 10-2, while the rest of his team is combined to go 30-44.
00:25:48Cardinals-Braves, this game was interesting.
00:25:51Jordan Walker, his first homer since June.
00:25:54He's from there.
00:25:57Good for him.
00:25:58He's 3-0.
00:26:00Nathan Church.
00:26:02Take me to church.
00:26:04Nathan Church.
00:26:05Ties the game at five.
00:26:08A few batters later.
00:26:10He's about that action, Nathan Church.
00:26:11Mason Wynn.
00:26:13Get it.
00:26:14Matt Olsen throws home.
00:26:15Somehow, Jordan Wiley evades the tag.
00:26:18This is really the first outing that the Braves bullpen just couldn't get any outs.
00:26:23And we do have some fresh news for the Braves this morning.
00:26:26Our John Heyman reporting that the Braves have signed Andrew McCutcheon to a minors deal.
00:26:32He checks a lot of boxes, right?
00:26:34Pinch hit against lefties.
00:26:35Spot starts.
00:26:37Veteran presence in the clubhouse.
00:26:40Yes.
00:26:42Pirates-Phillies.
00:26:44Andrew McCutcheon, former Philly, former Pirate.
00:26:47Bryce Harper.
00:26:47That is a RBI double.
00:26:50Philly's take a 1-0 lead.
00:26:52They were looking for the sweep here.
00:26:53Endy Rodriguez.
00:26:55His fifth gives the Pirates a 4-1 lead.
00:27:00And then in the ninth.
00:27:02It looks like it's a billion degrees.
00:27:04It was 112 on the field.
00:27:07That's what it felt like.
00:27:09112 where the players dwell.
00:27:11He's not in the highlight.
00:27:12But Esmeralda Valdez is hitting 542 during his seven-game hitting streak with seven extra base hits.
00:27:21Pirates go on to win 6-1.
00:27:24Tigers.
00:27:25Rangers.
00:27:28Cromber Valdez.
00:27:29Very familiar with the Rangers.
00:27:31Say it.
00:27:32Who wants to walk with Elias Diaz.
00:27:36That's a solo homer.
00:27:371-0.
00:27:38And then in the fifth.
00:27:39It's 5-0.
00:27:41Colt Keith.
00:27:42You believe in the Tigers.
00:27:44Cuts the lead to 5-1.
00:27:47Yeah.
00:27:47I like it.
00:27:49In the bottom of the sixth.
00:27:50Josh Smith.
00:27:51Just back up after Corey Seager went on the injured list.
00:27:56He goes deep.
00:27:57Rangers have won seven of their last eight.
00:28:00That is Josh Smith's first career pitch in them.
00:28:02You set yourself back.
00:28:03Angels.
00:28:04You helped to thread the needle.
00:28:05Julio Rodriguez was hit in the helmet in the first inning.
00:28:08He was forced to leave soon after.
00:28:11Bases loaded for Cal Raleigh.
00:28:14Working walk right there.
00:28:16There you go.
00:28:17It's a rib.
00:28:18That was a tough A-B.
00:28:20He was fouling off pitches.
00:28:21Meantime, Bryce Miller has his own no-hit bid through six innings, seven strikeouts.
00:28:28The only Angel base runner reached on an error.
00:28:32He's facing Nolan Chenuel.
00:28:34Well, rejoice, rejoice, you'll share you well.
00:28:41And runs.
00:28:41That's a base hit.
00:28:42No-hit bid over.
00:28:44Joe Adele.
00:28:45Vote Emerson.
00:28:47Gets the out.
00:28:48I think he's watching like this.
00:28:49Mariners go on to win one to nothing.
00:28:52Thanks to Bryce Miller.
00:28:53And look at the numbers.
00:28:54When I said, Dero walked in this morning, I said Bryce Miller.
00:28:57He said fastball split combination.
00:28:59But truly, Dero, I was looking at the numbers, sub two, nine games, give him the Skybox treatment
00:29:06because he deserves it.
00:29:08Yeah, he does a lot of things well.
00:29:10He was nicked up last year, bottom line.
00:29:14I fell in love with this guy in 2024.
00:29:17Let's get, he does a couple of things, three things I want to pinpoint on.
00:29:21So let's get into the front end because he burst on the scene for me.
00:29:25And they were trying to tandem stardom this year and keep everybody happy.
00:29:30But the bottom line is you can't deny what the numbers say.
00:29:33And the numbers say he's basically a two-pitch mix guy and dominant.
00:29:38Occasional sweeper.
00:29:39But when I fell in love with him, real quick, I want to go back into the tape before we
00:29:44dive
00:29:44in on this.
00:29:45The ERA leaders.
00:29:48I want to go back to 2024.
00:29:51Pause this.
00:29:53Give me a clean frame.
00:29:55Here we go.
00:29:56All right, stay with me.
00:29:58In 2024, this is a late-night game, sitting in my apartment.
00:30:03The Atlanta Braves are rolling.
00:30:04Ronald Acuna Jr. is coming off an MVP-type season, MVP season.
00:30:10And this guy shows up first at-bat of the game.
00:30:13We talk about setting the tone.
00:30:14We just did this with Paul Skeens.
00:30:16He obviously didn't love his mechanics, didn't love his heater the other night in Philly.
00:30:21Run this at-bat to Ronald.
00:30:22This is Ronald Acuna at the height of his powers.
00:30:25Go.
00:30:27We're getting into this.
00:30:28It's start of the game.
00:30:30Four-seamer right down Broadway.
00:30:33Four-seamer up and in.
00:30:35Four-seamer coming at you again.
00:30:37Now, maybe slider, split?
00:30:40Nope.
00:30:41Boom.
00:30:42When you establish heater like that, there's a presence, a confidence.
00:30:46Guys feed off it.
00:30:47And then you can start to incorporate the sweeper and the split combination.
00:30:51ERA leaders this season.
00:30:54You got the Miz.
00:30:55You got Shohei Otani.
00:30:57And then there's Bryce Miller right there.
00:30:59So, yeah, let's hot change it to the next board, please.
00:31:02In-zone swing and miss percentage leaders.
00:31:05Okay?
00:31:06Guys who can throw it in the zone and get a ton of swing and miss.
00:31:10Not easy to do.
00:31:11We got the Miz, Dylan Cease, who he kind of reminds – there's a lot of similarities
00:31:17between Bryson and Dylan Cease.
00:31:19Ian Seymour, we saw him yesterday for the Rays.
00:31:22He was dominant.
00:31:23And Uri Perez has got disgusting stuff.
00:31:25Okay?
00:31:26When you can throw a bully fastball right down Broadway to big league hitters
00:31:32that can hit a speeding bullet, it's impressive stuff.
00:31:34I want to get into it.
00:31:36So, three things he does really well.
00:31:38I mean, he's not commanding these pitches.
00:31:41They are center cut.
00:31:4497 miles an hour with two strikes.
00:31:47Boom.
00:31:47Kerry Carpenter, a guy who we've had in studio, and he's told you,
00:31:52I am on your hottest heater.
00:31:53I am not even worried about off-speed.
00:31:55And then the elevator to Murakami right there.
00:31:59So, bully heater, soft contact.
00:32:05Soft contact.
00:32:06Little get-me-over to Josh Naylor from C.J. Abrams.
00:32:09Look at the hitters.
00:32:10This is Wilson Contreras.
00:32:11This is C.J. Abrams.
00:32:13It's Murakami.
00:32:14It's some of the best in the game.
00:32:16He can punch your ticket on a fastball.
00:32:19He gets weak contact with two strikes.
00:32:22Does everything.
00:32:24Lowest hard-hit percentage against in 2026.
00:32:27He's on top.
00:32:28Bryce Miller, Landon Rue, Pezus, Lizardo, Max Freed, and Chris Sale.
00:32:34So, hot change me, Dev.
00:32:36I love this board.
00:32:3895th percentile or higher in K percentage and hard-hit percentage among qualifiers.
00:32:44What stands out when you look at it?
00:32:46I don't know.
00:32:47Mason Miller, Devin Williams, Dylan Lee, Tanner Scott.
00:32:49All bullpen guys.
00:32:50All bullpen guys.
00:32:51Oh, one starter on there.
00:32:52Yeah.
00:32:53Right?
00:32:53Yeah.
00:32:54Pretty impressive.
00:32:56So, he took apart the Angels last night.
00:32:59And I don't even think, truth be told, he had great command of his splitter.
00:33:04He was kind of pulling it glove-side quite a bit.
00:33:07But I want to take you through the mindset of Jorge Soler.
00:33:12So, right there, he blows two heaters right by him.
00:33:14Split.
00:33:15Okay.
00:33:15I got to stay back.
00:33:17Split again.
00:33:20Elevated heater.
00:33:22So, pause this for me.
00:33:23I'm going to take you inside what Jorge Soler is thinking right there.
00:33:26He wants to see your fastball and calibrate it first pitch.
00:33:30You can have strike one.
00:33:31Then he gets it again.
00:33:33Strike two.
00:33:34Now, he's got to stay back and eliminate total pull-side.
00:33:39Otherwise, he gets a split and he punches out or a sweeper and he punches out.
00:33:43So, he stays back, sees split finger and spits on it.
00:33:48Gets it again.
00:33:49Spits on it.
00:33:49And he's still late on a four-seam heater.
00:33:52It speaks to his stuff.
00:33:55Keep going.
00:33:56Here's Wade Meckler.
00:33:58Lefty.
00:33:59Boom.
00:34:00Gets ahead.
00:34:000-1.
00:34:02Little wrinkle slider right there, but that's not his M.O.
00:34:05It's four-seam cheese.
00:34:071-2.
00:34:08No, I don't like it.
00:34:09You saw his face right there.
00:34:11I'm throwing it again.
00:34:11I didn't command that the way I wanted to command that.
00:34:14And I end up punching his ticket.
00:34:16Here's Jorge Soler again.
00:34:19Slider away.
00:34:20Just a show pitch.
00:34:220-0.
00:34:24And then he goes right back to tunneling the four-seam heater and the nasty split combination.
00:34:30He's been impressive.
00:34:32He pitches with a lot of moxie and the mean on.
00:34:34And you see right here, in 2025, like I said, he dealt with a lot.
00:34:39Four-seam fastball.
00:34:40Guys were hitting it at about almost 240, a 556 slug.
00:34:45Split 240, a 434 slug.
00:34:48You see the whip percentages on both from 23 and 28%.
00:34:51Look at what he's doing right now.
00:34:54No one's hitting his heater.
00:34:55No one's hitting his split.
00:34:56No one's hitting his split.
00:34:58When you watch the numbers on a board, on a graphic, it's even more impressive.
00:35:03It's almost like you don't realize it watching him on the mound.
00:35:05That's why you don't give up on Seattle at any point in the season.
00:35:08They can stick like four or five dudes on the mound that can shove.
00:35:12By the way, last night was the first time in Mariners history that they won a game 1-0
00:35:16where the run came via a bases-loaded walk.
00:35:20They are back at home.
00:35:21They begin a series tonight against the Blue Jays.
00:35:23The Angels go to Anaheim.
00:35:25They are hosting the Red Sox for a weekend set against Boston.
00:35:29All right, so step aside, excuse me, here on this edition of MLB Central.
00:35:34Oriole fans, hey, they know there's nothing like a dog at the game.
00:35:39Coming up, we're going to sample a new twist on a ballpark favorite from the Baltimore Orioles.
00:35:47Camden Yards executive chef in studio.
00:35:50We cannot wait to sample.
00:35:53Look at the spread that they've got.
00:35:55They've got a hot dog, and I've heard that they – is there crab cakes?
00:36:06Welcome back.
00:36:07Ballpark Cam is in Los Angeles.
00:36:08That's where the Dodgers and Padres continue their series tonight.
00:36:12Speaking of the Dodgers, there is and they do have a rather unique connection with the state of New Hampshire.
00:36:21It's time for Baseball in America, presented by Booking.com.
00:36:26We went corner to corner and state to state to find the best baseball stories.
00:36:31This is Baseball in New Hampshire.
00:36:33Before Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers, this small New England town became the first minor league city in the
00:36:39U.S. to integrate.
00:36:40Welcome to Nashua, New Hampshire.
00:36:42In 1946, when Jackie was playing for Brooklyn's top farm club in Montreal, Canada, two other soon-to-be Dodgers
00:36:48greats, future Cy Young Award winner Don Newcomb and future three-time MVP Roy Campanella, broke the color line in
00:36:55American pro baseball.
00:36:57Branch Rickey originally planned to send the pair to Danville, Illinois, but was told they would not be welcome there,
00:37:02so he turned to Nashua, a New Hampshire town that had just 33,000 residents, with the U.S. Census
00:37:08Bureau reporting that fewer than 50 of them were black.
00:37:11But for this small town, known more for its textile industry, it wasn't a problem.
00:37:15Newcomb and Campanella were quick stars, with fans packing the ballpark to catch them every night.
00:37:20Reporters even noted that more fans came out for these games than nearby cities with much larger populations.
00:37:26The two would make their debuts in the majors in 1949, two years after Jackie paved the way.
00:37:32But their impact on Nashua is still felt today.
00:37:35You can find a mural for the duo downtown, and there are also streets named for these baseball trailblazers.
00:37:42That's pretty cool.
00:37:43Here's a list of some of the notable or the highest war among players that were born in New Hampshire
00:37:50in Major League history.
00:37:51Chris Carpenter at just over 34.
00:37:54Did you play with Chris?
00:37:55Yeah, I thought so.
00:37:56I thought so.
00:37:57Also on this list, Arlie Latham and Lefty Tyler.
00:38:01Let's give you a couple of notes about Arlie Latham.
00:38:04He was considered one of the funniest personalities in the game, known for playing practical jokes.
00:38:10He once lit a firecracker under a third baseman in an effort to, quote, wake himself up.
00:38:16And don't sleep on your boy, Lefty Tyler.
00:38:19Now, Lefty, after severe shoulder pain in 1919, went to the Mayo Clinic for a thorough examination.
00:38:26They said, you're fine, except your teeth are god-awful.
00:38:30All but three teeth were extracted.
00:38:34Is he the reason they have the best dental plan now?
00:38:37Probably.
00:38:38There we go.
00:38:38Thank you.
00:38:39There you go.
00:38:40Thanks, Tyler.
00:38:40And no teeth.
00:38:41No teeth.
00:38:42Are you ready and are you hungry?
00:38:44The dog of the north is what it's called.
00:38:45Pretend you're on the Food Network.
00:38:47It's really good.
00:38:48Double Mitchell.
00:38:49It's in Seattle.
00:38:50It's like an explosion of flavor in my mouth.
00:38:53Picture, oh, dog.
00:38:54Put whipped cream on anything.
00:38:55Is there something on my face?
00:38:56Polish cannonball is fried.
00:38:58Okay.
00:38:58And a funnel cake.
00:39:00Oh, you got me.
00:39:00Did you hear me?
00:39:01I got you a funnel cake.
00:39:02The Boomstick Burrito, gentlemen.
00:39:04You guys are not going to get a shot.
00:39:06It's smoky.
00:39:06It's smoky.
00:39:07It's smoky.
00:39:08Brisket.
00:39:09Ocho's.
00:39:10Top three.
00:39:10Top three.
00:39:11Get in a fight, Jihadi.
00:39:13There we go.
00:39:14Take out memes.
00:39:15I'll do the ball game.
00:39:17Are you starving, Marvin?
00:39:19Take out me to the ball game, Orioles-style, with a very special guest.
00:39:22Dan Doyle, good morning to you.
00:39:24Good morning.
00:39:24Executive head chef at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
00:39:27What have you prepared for us today?
00:39:28Tell me.
00:39:29Well, I had to bring crab cakes, of course.
00:39:31Yes, let's go.
00:39:32I cannot bring crab cakes, but, you know, this is the time of year when people like to make
00:39:36declarations, so we are officially declaring this the Baltimore-style hot dog.
00:39:39Who else than Baltimore Orioles to declare what a Baltimore-style hot dog is?
00:39:43All right.
00:39:43So this is it.
00:39:44Wait.
00:39:44There's been controversy with this, Dan.
00:39:47A lot of controversy.
00:39:47Heard about this.
00:39:48Yes, and it's a highly debatable thing in Baltimore, and most people say, oh, crab meat
00:39:52and Old Bay, which are great things to have, but have them in a crab cake, of course.
00:39:56So our hot dog is fried bologna, split and grilled hot dog, caramelized onions, mustard,
00:40:02and sauerkraut, kind of like the delis we do in Baltimore, so heritage and culture.
00:40:06I, as a kid, I had a lot of fried bologna.
00:40:09I don't like bologna.
00:40:10I went this right.
00:40:11I went this week.
00:40:12This is good.
00:40:13The ham, a pound of bologna.
00:40:15Still.
00:40:15Still to this day.
00:40:16To this day.
00:40:17You, it down, living in Georgia, you have to really request that.
00:40:21Up here, I feel like I owe it to the lay of the land.
00:40:24That bologna cheese sandwich, and away we go.
00:40:27All right, dig in.
00:40:27What do you guys think?
00:40:28I mean, the hot dog is really good.
00:40:30Okay.
00:40:31I like it better than I thought I would, and I think I've had this before, and it is amazing.
00:40:36What is it, Dan, about the crab cakes there?
00:40:39Why are they so special?
00:40:41What makes them so good?
00:40:41Well, Maryland crab can't be beat.
00:40:43It's the best quality crab you can buy in the world.
00:40:45We have special water, the temperature of our water, the Chesapeake Bay.
00:40:48It is where the crabs hibernate to and move around the country, the East Coast.
00:40:52They come here, they fatten up.
00:40:54They have a great flavor.
00:40:55Wow.
00:40:55How would you describe the food scene at Camden Yards?
00:40:58There's a little bit of everything, I feel like.
00:41:00Really, there is.
00:41:01We are an eclectic city.
00:41:03We have a lot of great things and a lot of great partners there as well.
00:41:05So, you know, if you're spending a quick trip to Baltimore, you want to taste all of Baltimore,
00:41:09you can come to Camden Yards and try it out.
00:41:11Camden Yards, how cool.
00:41:12Where are these available at the ballpark?
00:41:13Where can we, I think it's like section 214 and section 256.
00:41:17So be sure if you're catching an Orioles game to check that.
00:41:20So my co-host here has the best, he says.
00:41:24I wouldn't say it's best.
00:41:25According to him.
00:41:25It's pretty good.
00:41:26Baltimore accent.
00:41:27First of all, you have to agree.
00:41:30There is, it is a distinct.
00:41:32Oh, yeah.
00:41:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:41:33Is it the, is it Delco or is that something different?
00:41:36Delco is a little bit different.
00:41:37Ours is a unique.
00:41:37But it's a lot of whom.
00:41:39Yeah.
00:41:39Hello, whom.
00:41:40Long O's, long A's.
00:41:42Yes, long O's and long A's.
00:41:43R and N kind of get blended together a lot of times, too.
00:41:46Right.
00:41:46I used to go before playing the Orioles in a visiting clubhouse pregame crab cake sandwich.
00:41:51Do you find fans gravitate towards like something, like a specialty item like this or the, the normal, the nachos,
00:41:57the hot dogs, that kind of stuff?
00:41:58I mean, hot dogs are always going to be king.
00:42:00Of course, right?
00:42:01You know, hot dogs are the king of, uh, one out of four people in the stadium will buy a
00:42:03hot dog guaranteed.
00:42:05Really?
00:42:05Every game regardless, but, uh.
00:42:07So that's how you know how much to buy.
00:42:08That's interesting.
00:42:09I've always wondered how many, so a lot of math, but a lot of visiting fans and we welcome all
00:42:15the fans, of course, from all teams, but the visiting fans want to try a crab kick when they come
00:42:18to the ballpark.
00:42:18And, of course, these are handmade every day by us, so.
00:42:21I mean, this is excellent.
00:42:21Have you been in a splash zone?
00:42:23I have.
00:42:24That a boy.
00:42:26I mean.
00:42:27Go late.
00:42:27Don't go early.
00:42:28You don't do what the rest of the game.
00:42:29The good product in Baltimore, Camden Yards, the fans are going to be there.
00:42:31I also want to tell you about this special giveaway.
00:42:33So hot dog race caps, Orioles giving away these special caps, one for ketchup, one for mustard, one for relish.
00:42:40Of course, they'll be giving away 20,000 fans Saturday, July 11th against Kansas City, distributed at random.
00:42:46And also that evening, the ballpark's first ever postgame drone show.
00:42:50How cool.
00:42:51And will be set to Americana themed music with USA images.
00:42:54So be sure to be there.
00:42:56Collect your caps.
00:42:57And, Chef, thank you so much for being with us.
00:42:59I do.
00:42:59This was excellent.
00:42:59It's a treat.
00:43:00As always.
00:43:00We appreciate it.
00:43:01But, Orioles fans, enjoy at Camden Yards.
00:43:04Thanks so much.
00:43:04Appreciate it.
00:43:05Boy, this is good.
00:43:05And the hot dog is really good, too.
00:43:07All right.
00:43:08Here's what's coming up.
00:43:09I'm fine.
00:43:10I'm fine.
00:43:10He always says this right before he's about to talk.
00:43:13He takes a bite.
00:43:14Go ahead.
00:43:14With June in the rearview mirror, let's take a look back and honor the best.
00:43:18Coming up, we are going to tell you Players of the Month, Pitchers of the Month, and more.
00:43:23I'm going to go to MLB Central.
00:43:27I am.
00:43:28Good.
00:43:39And that one's shanked on the right side.
00:43:42And up into the seats.
00:43:43And an Aussie guy.
00:43:47This is awesome.
00:43:55Welcome back to a brand new hour of MLB Central.
00:43:58That was last night in Arlington at the Rangers game.
00:44:03Some Australian soccer fans who are there for the World Cup catching a foul ball, and they go berserk.
00:44:11I mean, the World Cup fans have added such a nice flavor to Major League Parks throughout this summer.
00:44:17By the way, there is no Tigers-Rangers game today because basically across the street in Arlington, Egypt will take
00:44:24on Australia today.
00:44:25My daughter's down there.
00:44:26She said they've been telling them stay home.
00:44:28There's parades.
00:44:29Yeah.
00:44:30Have you seen Team USA and their start time and where they play compared to everybody else?
00:44:36Why?
00:44:36Tell me.
00:44:37The weather.
00:44:38The weather.
00:44:39It's a lot cooler where they're playing at compared to, like, Miami, compared to New York, compared to Texas.
00:44:45United States is playing in Belgium.
00:44:47They're doing a little home cooking there.
00:44:48They're playing Belgium on Monday in Seattle.
00:44:51Are they in Antwerp?
00:44:53I don't know what that is.
00:44:54What is it?
00:44:55It's in Belgium.
00:44:56Oh, okay.
00:44:58But yes.
00:45:00This show runs the gamut, isn't it?
00:45:01Are they in Brussels?
00:45:02No.
00:45:03They're going to be in Seattle.
00:45:04So, Advantage USA.
00:45:07And everything in between.
00:45:08Thanks to a bogus red card, they're best players.
00:45:10Did they appeal that?
00:45:12Did they appeal that?
00:45:13I don't know.
00:45:13They can't appeal that.
00:45:14That was a bad red card.
00:45:15They basically cannot appeal.
00:45:17So, you're into it.
00:45:18Oh, yeah.
00:45:19Yeah.
00:45:19It's everything that's good about.
00:45:20I know.
00:45:21I haven't gotten, I gotta be honest.
00:45:23I haven't caught the bug yet.
00:45:24Team USA in Portugal, baby.
00:45:24Portugal.
00:45:25Okay, soon.
00:45:26As they kind of narrow down the teams, you're going to be in.
00:45:28Especially when they're here and you can't get to the studio because they're in the Meadowlands.
00:45:31At the beginning of July, let's give out some awards, shall we?
00:45:34Time for the American League Player of the Month.
00:45:36Enjoy.
00:45:38Another home run for Junior Camonero.
00:45:40Junior Camonero.
00:45:42Home run.
00:45:42Junior Camonero.
00:45:44He is absolutely hammering that baseball.
00:45:46The three-homer game.
00:45:48What a day to remember at Tropicana Field.
00:45:50It's his first career three-homer game.
00:45:53Home run.
00:45:54Camonero.
00:45:55He's on a home run day.
00:45:56What a blistering pace.
00:45:58Eight home runs in his last seven games.
00:46:01Those are video games.
00:46:02No doubter off the bat of Camonero, who is some kind of hot these days.
00:46:07It's the bat speed yonder.
00:46:09It's the ease at the plate.
00:46:10And he's 22 years old.
00:46:11I remember in the WBC going to hang out with the guys in the clubhouse for the Dominican team.
00:46:16And I would ask four or five guys about who's the player they were most interested to watch.
00:46:22In that clubhouse.
00:46:23In that clubhouse.
00:46:25And they were all saying Junior Camonero.
00:46:27I asked Albert, Albert, who's the guy that you're most intrigued with?
00:46:31And the guy that surprised you the most?
00:46:33He says the best player on this team is Junior Camonero.
00:46:35That's 22 years old.
00:46:37I can't wait to watch.
00:46:38He's hit him with all the famers there.
00:46:39In the derby in a few days' time.
00:46:42It's time for the National League Player of the Month for the month of June.
00:46:45Can you believe it?
00:46:47Pete Pro Armstrong delivers the PCA show here in Wrigley.
00:46:52Pete Pro Armstrong is turning into a star ball player.
00:46:56He's did it!
00:46:58Home run, triple, double, single.
00:47:01The 13th of ever.
00:47:03The hit for a cycle in a major league game.
00:47:05His world, and we're living in it.
00:47:08Pete Pro Armstrong!
00:47:10That's home run number 11 in June.
00:47:12What a bump for Pete Pro Armstrong.
00:47:16My PCA, the first Cubs player to win player of the month since Cody Bellinger in July of 2023.
00:47:21He hit .381 with 11 homers.
00:47:24Eight stolen what?
00:47:26Whatever he runs third and does that.
00:47:29Hey, now.
00:47:29Whatever it is, he has it.
00:47:33And I love these two selections because it's not just talent.
00:47:36It's two guys you can't take your eye off on the baseball field.
00:47:38But let's go through some other awards for the month of June.
00:47:42Your pitchers of the month in the American and National League.
00:47:46Drew Rasmussen is the American League pitcher of the month.
00:47:49He was 3-2.
00:47:50His ERA was .82 for the month.
00:47:53Struck out 39 in 33 innings.
00:47:55Logan Webb was 3-1.
00:47:58His ERA was even lower at .71.
00:48:01Webb becoming the first giant pitcher since Madison Bumgarner to have at least five consecutive starts of at least seven
00:48:07innings
00:48:07and allowed two or fewer runs in each of them.
00:48:11That was way back in 2013.
00:48:13AL and NL rookies of the month.
00:48:15In the National League and the Colorado Rockies, it's TJ Rumfield.
00:48:19He hit .316.
00:48:20Gives me such joy to see.
00:48:21Yeah, five homers.
00:48:22You played with his dad?
00:48:23Played with his dad in AAA, Toby.
00:48:25And Kaz Akimoto, .286, seven homers, 20 RBIs.
00:48:30He slugged .560 in the month.
00:48:32Seven home runs were the most by any rookie in the majors.
00:48:35Don't sleep on Kobe.
00:48:36He raked at Richmond.
00:48:38AJAL and NL relievers of the month.
00:48:41Jacob Latz of the Texas Rangers.
00:48:436-7.
00:48:44Yeah, 1.13 ERA in 16 innings.
00:48:48Johan Duran, 1.64 ERA in 12 games to go along with nine saves.
00:48:55Congratulations to all the players recognized in the month of June.
00:48:58Let's take a quick timeout.
00:49:00Yonder's going to stick around, and it has been a slow start for Kyle Tucker in Dodger Blue.
00:49:05But coming up, after a four-hit night yesterday,
00:49:09Yonder's going to show you the changes that King Tuck has made
00:49:13that may finally be paying off.
00:49:15Let's go back to Los Angeles.
00:49:22This was the site of our showcase game right here on the network last night.
00:49:26Dodgers-Padres opening up the series.
00:49:28Padres jumped out to a 6-0 lead, and then the Dodgers said,
00:49:32all right, time to go to work.
00:49:34They scored 12 unanswered runs.
00:49:37And go on to win 12-7.
00:49:39Four hits for Kyle Tucker at Starwatch, presented by MLB Pro Spirit.
00:49:43Yonder, whenever you talk about great hitters, you say they can find it so fast, right?
00:49:48Some hitters take a month to get there, but guys like Kyle Tucker can find it in one swing.
00:49:54Yeah, Lauren, I just think for me, great hitters have a knack, right?
00:49:58It could be a foul ball.
00:49:59It could be a take and a bat.
00:50:01It could be a good series.
00:50:02Light bulb goes off.
00:50:03And that's it.
00:50:03That was it.
00:50:04You feel it, you find it, and then you go through it, and you essentially go have two or three
00:50:09really good runs.
00:50:10I'm surprised it's taken him this long to get rolling.
00:50:13I'm surprised.
00:50:14But, D, well, you've been in a new team with expectations.
00:50:18You know, big city.
00:50:19He seems unfazed.
00:50:21I had him in 23, Team USA.
00:50:23He's unfazed.
00:50:24He's exactly what you think.
00:50:25Sneaky, funny.
00:50:26Behind the scenes, sneaky, funny guy.
00:50:28He's got zingers like Robert.
00:50:30Oh, I like that.
00:50:31But can we show what he's done his last six games?
00:50:33Because I think there's something to be said about who this guy is.
00:50:37And I think that this is who he is, right?
00:50:39He's been on an absolute tear.
00:50:41We know he's going to walk.
00:50:43His on-base percentage, his last six games, are ridiculous.
00:50:46I mean, 600 on-base percentage, man.
00:50:49And now he's starting to find the barrel.
00:50:52And we can roll through this right now on this tape.
00:50:54And it reminds me of the days in Houston, the good years he had in Houston.
00:50:59And look, this is a guy that's going to put the bat to the ball.
00:51:03His hand-eye coordination is elite.
00:51:05He's going to hit to all fields.
00:51:06But the biggest thing for me that I see is his pitch selection.
00:51:10All right?
00:51:10This is what he was doing early on this year.
00:51:13Just missing fastballs and hitters counts.
00:51:16Good hitters, they'll tell you.
00:51:17Hitters counts, I have to make them pay.
00:51:20Now, all of a sudden, his last six, his last ten days, he's taking those pitches.
00:51:26Now we're seeing a slower load.
00:51:27Now we're seeing a guy that's behind the baseball.
00:51:30Now we're going to work.
00:51:32You see all these hitters counts that he's on?
00:51:33Yeah.
00:51:34But then when he gets the pitch that he's looking for early in counts, he's making people pay.
00:51:39And I think, for me, when you're hitting it to all fields, you're never going to go into big slumps.
00:51:45You're always going to manage.
00:51:46You're always going to be competitive.
00:51:48And pause that.
00:51:49Show me the next board here on the counts.
00:51:53Look at the count leverage that he's had so far.
00:51:56Right?
00:51:572024, 2025, 302.
00:52:00First 76 games, eh, okay.
00:52:036-7.
00:52:04Not so great.
00:52:06But his last six games, though, he's back.
00:52:09He's back where he needs to be.
00:52:10And I think, for me, it was more of a mechanical thing and a mental.
00:52:15So both of those things, for me, were the difference with Tucker's swing.
00:52:20I think, mechanically, he was a little sped up.
00:52:23He was a little long.
00:52:24He wasn't starting on time.
00:52:25And you know this D-Row.
00:52:26You've got to start on time.
00:52:27That's it.
00:52:28When you start on time, you can see the pitch.
00:52:30You can see baseball.
00:52:31And he's always had an interesting move.
00:52:32If you go back and watch him type in, like, his high school swing, it's like a golf-y kind
00:52:39of swing.
00:52:39Let's see the split.
00:52:41I want to see the split.
00:52:42And this is going to be timed exactly the same.
00:52:46All right?
00:52:46Exactly the same.
00:52:47Give me just slow ticks so we can go through it.
00:52:50And watch his hands.
00:52:51Watch his hands when he gets to the moment of contact.
00:52:54When he's about to fire, look how late he is on the left.
00:52:57And look how long time he is on the right.
00:53:00His barrel says it all.
00:53:01His barrel says it all.
00:53:03Same time, you stop it.
00:53:05Go back a couple clicks.
00:53:07Go back right there.
00:53:08I mean, he's late on the left.
00:53:10Yeah.
00:53:11He's late on the left.
00:53:13He's on time on the right.
00:53:14He's behind the baseball.
00:53:16He's throwing his hips.
00:53:17He's a little wider here.
00:53:18A little wider there.
00:53:19His base here.
00:53:19I always say this to hitters.
00:53:22Where do they stand on the box is crucial.
00:53:24He's been moving all over the place.
00:53:26He's been in.
00:53:26He's been on top of the dish.
00:53:27He's been off the plate.
00:53:28He's moved back.
00:53:29But one thing I've always noticed is your best position to hit in is how you squat and how you
00:53:35do clean.
00:53:36Right?
00:53:36We're not going to squat like this.
00:53:38Yeah, exactly.
00:53:38And we're not going to squat like this.
00:53:41If you want to be in an NBA, we're going to defend.
00:53:44Right?
00:53:44We're going to get right into it.
00:53:46Defensive position.
00:53:47Once you get into it, then the lower half starts to work on time.
00:53:50And you can roll this through right now.
00:53:52But this is now on the right a smooth swing, man.
00:53:55This is where he's been his whole career.
00:53:58And he's going to find barrels in that.
00:54:00I'll take you pitch by pitch on last night's game because I was locked in on this.
00:54:05Early in count, 1-0.
00:54:06He gets a fastball.
00:54:08He just crushes that.
00:54:10All right.
00:54:11We're going to go back up.
00:54:12Up the ladder.
00:54:12That's where a lot of guys have gotten him.
00:54:14Up the ladder, down, and away.
00:54:17Just misses a double there.
00:54:18Gets another fastball.
00:54:20Stays through it.
00:54:21That's a good hitter.
00:54:22A good hitter stays through that pitch right there.
00:54:24Now he's facing Juanita Peralta.
00:54:26Good changeup.
00:54:27Good fastball.
00:54:28But gets him early on that fastball and just crushes.
00:54:30This is Marquez.
00:54:31I thought he looked great.
00:54:33He had a great changeup.
00:54:34Hit a great fastball.
00:54:35Fooled on that changeup.
00:54:37What does he do?
00:54:38He gets that knuckle curve and he hits it the other way.
00:54:40He makes adjustments.
00:54:41He's just mentally smart.
00:54:43He's just elite smartness.
00:54:44But this is the reality.
00:54:46This is why they got him.
00:54:48If you don't think he's not hit the three-run homer in the World Series this year, you're crazy.
00:54:53You're crazy.
00:54:53He's got to do something.
00:54:55At some point, this is what he's going to do.
00:54:57And, you know, we've seen in the postseason, people that get on base, that get their walks,
00:55:03and people that have big moments and big swings, this is who he is.
00:55:07He's going to get his walks.
00:55:08He's going to pass the baton to that nasty lineup they got in L.A.
00:55:12And then he's going to make you pay if he gets a mistake.
00:55:15Swing decision, Tom.
00:55:17Swing decision, man.
00:55:18It's all about swing decision, looking for the fastball, and starting on time.
00:55:21Everybody's thinking about exit below.
00:55:23Everybody's thinking about path and swing path and is it longer, is it short.
00:55:28You know, all this metrics and all this analytical stuff.
00:55:31At the end of the day, you have to look at yourself and say, am I on time?
00:55:35And am I hitting the fastball?
00:55:36And am I swinging of strikes?
00:55:38That's it.
00:55:39After that, the game will determine itself, right?
00:55:42Basically gone back to who he was in the last six games.
00:55:45That's who he is.
00:55:46And this is impressive.
00:55:47I like where he's at now.
00:55:48And, by the way, he's hitting six.
00:55:50I can't believe he's on the Dodgers.
00:55:52He's not hitting third.
00:55:53He's not hitting fourth.
00:55:54He's hitting six.
00:55:55I see him in that uniform.
00:55:56I'm like, he's on the Dodgers.
00:55:57He's on the Dodgers.
00:56:00By the way, I'm stuck on the fact that he's funny.
00:56:02I didn't know he spoke much.
00:56:04Hey, he ran the group chat, Lauren.
00:56:07He was a big GIF guy.
00:56:09Oh, I like GIFs or GIFs?
00:56:11GIF, whatever.
00:56:12I think I go with GIFs.
00:56:14GIF or GIF?
00:56:15It's GIF.
00:56:15That's a peanut butter.
00:56:16It's good to see him snap out of it.
00:56:19It's nice to finally see something work out for the Los Angeles.
00:56:22Oh, man.
00:56:23You're right.
00:56:24You know, just kind of.
00:56:25They've had a rough go.
00:56:27I'll tell you what.
00:56:27This is a big series for the Padres.
00:56:29Those lovable underdogs.
00:56:31The Dodgers.
00:56:31The Dodgers team with Otani tomorrow?
00:56:32Tonight?
00:56:33Otani tonight?
00:56:34Otani, yeah.
00:56:34Oh, that's right.
00:56:35Otani and Michael King.
00:56:37Good luck.
00:56:38The pitching matchup at Dodger Stadium.
00:56:40Hey, the All-Star Game starters are going to be announced tomorrow.
00:56:43And coming up, we're going to give you some players that aren't in the top two finalists,
00:56:48but they should be in Philadelphia.
00:56:51Like this guy, Dylan Dingler.
00:56:53You got the touch.
00:56:55But who else?
00:56:56Find out next.
00:57:04All right.
00:57:04All-Star Week in Philadelphia.
00:57:06MLB Central will be there.
00:57:08Tomorrow, you got the All-Star Selection Show on Fox.
00:57:12HBCU Swingman Classic a week from tonight right here on the network.
00:57:17NBC has the draft for the first ten picks.
00:57:20And then Peacock is also in the mix.
00:57:22It's also wall-to-wall coverage here on the network.
00:57:25Home Run Derby on Netflix for the first time ever.
00:57:27Lauren is part of the broadcast.
00:57:29It's the Red Carpet Show Tuesday afternoon.
00:57:32And then Fox has the game itself.
00:57:33And MLB Central will be there all week in Philly.
00:57:36Let's send some guys to Philadelphia.
00:57:39Why don't we?
00:57:39It is party season, which means inevitably there's going to be a name dropper or two.
00:57:43You know the kind.
00:57:44You know what I mean?
00:57:45But for the purpose of this exercise, we're name dropping guys who should be in Philadelphia.
00:57:51Should-be All-Star finalist.
00:57:53Yonder, who comes to mind?
00:57:54Top of mind.
00:57:54I like Adrian Morejon.
00:57:57I like him too.
00:57:58Oh man, he is.
00:57:59He's supposed to feel.
00:58:00Feel.
00:58:01But you know, it's not just the feel that he's throwing too.
00:58:05He's got one of the most elite change-ups in the game.
00:58:08And he's using it a ton.
00:58:10He is on command.
00:58:12By the way, they're putting him in situations where there's no way they're getting out of it.
00:58:17And he's getting out of them every inning.
00:58:19I mean, his holds right now, tied for fourth, 14 holds.
00:58:23It's not going to Adams.
00:58:24They're not going to Miller.
00:58:25They're not going to the dogs in the eighth or ninth inning.
00:58:28They're going to Adrian Morejon.
00:58:30Lefties, righties, it doesn't matter.
00:58:32It's 100 at the top of the zone.
00:58:33He's got a really good two-seamer.
00:58:35He throws his split change.
00:58:37Very weird.
00:58:38He just kind of holds it like this and just throws it as hard as he can.
00:58:41And it actually cuts.
00:58:42It doesn't really fade on him.
00:58:44He's telling you, he's sneaking.
00:58:46I had a buddy throw that pitch in the minor leagues.
00:58:48They call it the Vulcan because of Star Trek, I guess.
00:58:52Boom.
00:58:52How do you throw that?
00:58:54I can't even do, like.
00:58:55Zero quick nuggets.
00:58:56I can't even get my fingers to go that route.
00:58:58The reason he wore long sleeves.
00:58:59I used to face him in spring training.
00:59:02And I used to tell, when I faced him, I used to tell what pitch he was going to throw
00:59:06before he even threw it.
00:59:07Forearm muscles?
00:59:08Forearm muscles.
00:59:08He would grip it as a fastball.
00:59:10And when he would go to the breaking ball stuff, you can just see his forearms.
00:59:14And I go, my man, I don't care if it's 100 degrees.
00:59:16From here on out, you're wearing long sleeves.
00:59:18For the rest of his career, he's been wearing long sleeves.
00:59:20That's cool.
00:59:21Interesting.
00:59:21A big weekend series with the Dodgers.
00:59:24Padres chasing a wild card in the National League.
00:59:26Who comes to mind?
00:59:27He's got someone.
00:59:28Mine's a no-brainer.
00:59:29He's been the most consistent hitter the entire season.
00:59:32That's Otto Lopez down in Miami.
00:59:34Oh, yeah.
00:59:35Shortstop.
00:59:36We saw him last year.
00:59:37Super athletic.
00:59:38And then again in the WBC.
00:59:40He was hitting right in the middle of the order for Canada.
00:59:42And he has picked up right where he left off.
00:59:45I just want to know.
00:59:45He's hitting .336 with 7 and 37 ribbies.
00:59:49He's got 16 stolen bases.
00:59:50But hear me out.
00:59:52April, he hit .330.
00:59:53May, he hit .339.
00:59:55June, he hit .340.
00:59:56Wow.
00:59:57Yeah.
00:59:58Come on, now.
00:59:59Send him to Philly.
01:00:00Consistent, man.
01:00:01Otto's got to be there.
01:00:02When you showed the best middle infield numbers, how it stacks up against the rest of the league,
01:00:07it was eye-popping to see him on paper.
01:00:09Yeah, he's up there.
01:00:09I'm going to take his double play partner, Xavier Edwards, at second base.
01:00:12Seventh among National League players with an average of .301.
01:00:16And you mentioned Otto Lopez.
01:00:18Edwards is one of three players with at least an average of .300 and at least 10 stolen bases.
01:00:25Otto Lopez is one of those three.
01:00:27So, the Marlins have two.
01:00:30He's batting .417, six RBIs over his last 10 games.
01:00:34He should be in Philadelphia as well.
01:00:36All three good choices.
01:00:37I'm going to name drop Dylan Dingler.
01:00:39Tied for second.
01:00:40He should be a final.
01:00:41I thought the same thing.
01:00:42He should be starting.
01:00:44Am I missing some of the best catcher in the game right now?
01:00:46Among AM position players, the numbers say yes, Yonder and War.
01:00:4919 home runs, 59 RBI.
01:00:51Leads all catchers with an .861 OPS.
01:00:53It's the framing.
01:00:54It's the throws he makes to get guys out.
01:00:56How he uses pitch comp.
01:00:58You've loved him for a long, long time.
01:01:00Look at this.
01:01:01This.
01:01:02He's been such an interesting guy to watch because he's kind of matured on the scene right in front of
01:01:06us.
01:01:07Coming out of Ohio State, he was defense first.
01:01:09You didn't know if the bat was going to totally get there.
01:01:13And then Jake Rogers goes down a little bit.
01:01:16And here comes Dylan Dingler.
01:01:17And then you start, your eyeballs keep going to this guy.
01:01:20He's got light power power.
01:01:22He's got the mean on.
01:01:23He's got the swing that he can play in anything.
01:01:25Yeah, he's just good.
01:01:26You can tell.
01:01:26He's just really good player.
01:01:28He'll be there in Philly.
01:01:28Ohio State Buckeye.
01:01:30Might find himself in.
01:01:32So who is it?
01:01:32It should be Bangaliers and Dingler.
01:01:35That makes sense to me.
01:01:36Makes sense to me.
01:01:37We'll find out Saturday, tomorrow, on Fox 730 Eastern.
01:01:43Here's what's coming up.
01:01:45It's just a cool moment, just because we remember being in the backyard, playing wiffle ball with Eddie.
01:01:50We would always see my dad just looking through the window, you know, watching us play wiffle ball and stuff.
01:01:55So just being able to do that on a bigger stage and then FaceTiming them after the game and seeing
01:02:00how happy they are.
01:02:01It's just cool.
01:02:02Coming up, J.P. Morosi sitting down with Chris Hacopian from Texas A&M, an expected first-round pick whose
01:02:10love of baseball is a strong family tie.
01:02:23Welcome back.
01:02:24You're watching MLB Central, presented by The Home Depot.
01:02:28As you know, the Major League Baseball draft is now just over a week away.
01:02:33And one player to keep an eye on is Chris Hacopian, a prolific hitter with a relentless work ethic.
01:02:40He's one of the top prospects in the country.
01:02:43Here's J.P. Morosi with more on the Texas A&M second baseman whose baseball bloodlines run deep.
01:02:58He's a big-time prospect.
01:03:00He's passionate about being a complete player.
01:03:03Chris is an absolute worker.
01:03:06Wants to be great.
01:03:08There we go.
01:03:10He really knows how to turn it on when it's game time.
01:03:12Hacopian turns and burns.
01:03:14Goodbye!
01:03:15Another no-doubter.
01:03:17This dude has a competitive edge that I haven't really seen in a lot of players.
01:03:22There's a ton to like about him being projected to go in the top ten picks in the draft.
01:03:31The Hacopians are the first family of baseball in Potomac, Maryland.
01:03:35First-round draft prospect Chris Hacopian has followed the same path as his father, Derek,
01:03:40who starred at Churchill High School and the University of Maryland.
01:03:43Derek spent five years in pro baseball, falling just shy of the major leagues.
01:03:49Chris' primary motivation to attend Maryland was the opportunity to share the infield for two seasons with his older brother,
01:03:56Eddie.
01:03:56In one game at Penn State last May, the brothers hit back-to-back home runs in the top of
01:04:02the first inning.
01:04:04When he ended up getting the opportunity to go to Maryland, I was a senior in high school.
01:04:09And I was rehabbing a hamstring injury, and I remember going to a game with my dad, and we were
01:04:14sitting in the crowd,
01:04:15and we were like, how cool would it be to just play 30 minutes down the road of our house
01:04:20and get two years to play with my brother?
01:04:22And that's what kind of started that conversation.
01:04:27When you think about that and the ability to truly make a dream a reality,
01:04:33and I'm sure your parents watching that, for two of their sons to be playing on the same team,
01:04:38at the Division I level, your dad's alma mater,
01:04:41remember the conversation where maybe you saw in your parents' eyes what it meant to them?
01:04:45It's just a cool moment, just because we remember being in the backyard, playing wiffle ball with Eddie.
01:04:51We would always see my dad just looking through the window, you know, watching us play wiffle ball and stuff.
01:04:56So just being able to do that on a bigger stage and then FaceTiming them after the game
01:05:00and seeing how happy they are, it's just cool.
01:05:06There's your dad.
01:05:07There I am.
01:05:08Sorry, I'm going to embarrass Chris on this call.
01:05:12Well, this is perfect.
01:05:13So what can you tell me about this great young man who's sitting beside me?
01:05:16You don't have to butter me up too, Gabe.
01:05:18Chris is a great kid.
01:05:19The only issue I have with Chris is he doesn't answer his phone.
01:05:23But I think the biggest thing with both my boys that I just love through their baseball journey
01:05:28is not only that they're good players, but they're just awesome teammates.
01:05:32They're the ones playing the game.
01:05:34How far they go in the game is up to them.
01:05:36All I can do as a parent is support them.
01:05:40After Eddie turned pro in 2025, Chris had a decision to make.
01:05:45Stay in Maryland or test himself in the SEC.
01:05:47In the end, Chris chose the packed crowds and Texas-sized expectations of playing for the Aggies.
01:05:55This is Chris Hacopi and one of the top draft prospects.
01:05:59A couple of great years at Maryland.
01:06:01He's over to the SEC.
01:06:03What were the reasons that you decided to come to A&M when you really think back to the decisions
01:06:10that you made last year?
01:06:10Yeah.
01:06:12Transferring from Maryland, first of all, was an extremely hard decision.
01:06:16I loved Maryland, but I just wanted to become the best baseball player possible.
01:06:21And then I got here on my visit and was like, I really don't need to go anywhere else.
01:06:26Like, I love this place.
01:06:28Wonderful.
01:06:29He showed up and he got right to work.
01:06:30Like, I could just tell that kid loved baseball.
01:06:34Yep.
01:06:35Yep.
01:06:35The intensity behind the way he talked.
01:06:37But I could tell he was also a little bit of a jokester.
01:06:39So, Chris is a fun guy to be around, man.
01:06:41He's a good time and he's been a good addition to this team.
01:06:44Chris is a guy that gets after it, wants to be great.
01:06:50Just the level that he's continued to raise and pull the guys around him up to.
01:06:56Get up.
01:06:57Nice nut.
01:06:58Attaboy.
01:06:59He has taken it up a notch.
01:07:00And if you asked any one of them, I guarantee you they would agree.
01:07:04If you guys want any more strings.
01:07:06Optional.
01:07:07Not optional.
01:07:08And now you look up and it's like they're all right there with him and trying to keep up.
01:07:13Attaboy.
01:07:16He's just really easy to believe in.
01:07:18Obviously, you're here, so he's a big time prospect.
01:07:21He's got all the attributes you want, right?
01:07:23He's got all the hitter metrics that they're looking at.
01:07:25Low chase with high contact and high exit velocities.
01:07:28That's what Major League Baseball is looking for in the draft.
01:07:30The part for me that is a separator, which you don't really know when you recruit a kid because it's
01:07:36so quick, right?
01:07:38Especially nowadays is what kind of teammate is he?
01:07:40What kind of kid is he?
01:07:41And this guy has far exceeded any expectations I could have had on that point.
01:07:49Cool thing is, if you ever get to watch him take ground ball pregame, it's like he messes one up
01:07:54or he catches one decent but not quite right.
01:07:57Like he wants to go again.
01:07:58Like that's not good enough.
01:08:00The guys that are great, like that's the mentality they have.
01:08:03Like they mess something up and it's like, I want to redo it.
01:08:05I want to fix it right now.
01:08:07And I just think he's one of those guys that wherever you put him at the Major League level, he's
01:08:14a winning player.
01:08:15He's going to help your team win.
01:08:17You don't get worse by having Chris Hacopian in the lineup.
01:08:20I think he's going to help any club that gets him.
01:08:22They'll be really lucky to have him.
01:08:2821 years ago, then Aggies infielder Cliff Pennington was a first-round pick in one of the greatest drafts in
01:08:34MLB history.
01:08:35Now, it is Chris Hacopian's turn to hear his name called and enter the family business.
01:08:42There's a ton to like about him being projected to go in the top ten picks in the draft.
01:08:46If you told me 12 years old that I was going to be in the spot that I'm at now,
01:08:50I'd be ecstatic.
01:08:52So, man, I'm just super excited to see wherever my name does get called in July and go rock it
01:08:58down.
01:09:02Well, you can find out where he and several others land in the upcoming draft.
01:09:09So, NBC and Peacock, on July 11th, which is a week from tomorrow, they will have picks 1 through 10
01:09:16at 1 o'clock.
01:09:17And then it's just Peacock and us starting at 2.30 for 11 through 40.
01:09:24MLB.com also jumps into the fray, including the next day.
01:09:28Exclusively on MLB.com.
01:09:34Okay, you know what that means.
01:09:36You know what that music means.
01:09:39Yeah, people are getting hit in the groin.
01:09:41They're doing weird things in the stands.
01:09:44Who knows what's going to happen?
01:09:46But find out, because we're counting them down.
01:09:48The ham and eggers from the week that was.
01:09:54All fund management fees will be converted to beer money.
01:09:58We're ready to make some noise tonight.
01:10:00Welcome to the big leagues.
01:10:01First big league strikeout.
01:10:03Welcome home, Jordan.
01:10:04Bobby Banana.
01:10:05Three straight games for Vicky.
01:10:07He caught it with his hands.
01:10:09It's an incredible souvenir.
01:10:11Nice career 10 strikeout performance.
01:10:13He has been virtually untouchable.
01:10:16Good night for that.
01:10:17Can't beat a good King Cone.
01:10:18It is gone.
01:10:19So, he decided to start drinking his water from a gasoline cam.
01:10:24It didn't work.
01:10:24Goodbye.
01:10:26Good night.
01:10:27Unbelievable.
01:10:29Oh, what a Thursday around the league.
01:10:32The Cardinals won big on Thursday.
01:10:33And the Cubs took a day after being on the right side of streaky again on Wednesday.
01:10:39And now, just in time for Fourth of July weekend, they get together in their NL Central rivalry.
01:10:44And a fun weekend on the north side of Chicago.
01:10:47The Cubs flying high right now.
01:10:48They've won 11 of 13 and their offense scoring 8.6 runs for game over that span.
01:10:55David Peterson, you would love that kind of run support in Chicago.
01:10:58To the American League Central where the White Sox and the Guardians even atop the standings.
01:11:03Cleveland with a win made up ground.
01:11:05And now, they're together at the top.
01:11:07They play three in Cleveland starting tonight.
01:11:09And Gavin Williams looking for his 10th win of the season to the National League West
01:11:14where the Padres and the Dodgers get together in San Diego chasing down a wild card.
01:11:18Just one problem.
01:11:20Shohei, he's chasing down hardware.
01:11:22He's on the mound again tonight.
01:11:23Lately, he's won his last six decisions.
01:11:26Let's watch him on Friday night against his division foe.
01:11:2910 p.m. Eastern tonight.
01:11:30Can't wait.
01:11:32Right?
01:11:32So, what does Friday bring?
01:11:33Ham and Eggers.
01:11:34Ham and Eggers, right.
01:11:34Describe a Ham and Eggers.
01:11:36The unwashed masses.
01:11:37People in the stands.
01:11:38People out and about.
01:11:39Yard sale.
01:11:41No!
01:11:42No!
01:11:45What you gonna do, brother?
01:11:47That was me, Robert.
01:11:48Barry and Hot Dogs in their pocket.
01:11:50You know, fans with hot dogs in their pocket.
01:11:52You know.
01:11:53What do you got in your pocket?
01:11:54Yeah.
01:11:55Is that a hot dog or are you not going to see me?
01:11:58No, we're stopping it.
01:12:02Right?
01:12:03Fans are loving their time at ballgames, so let's honor them on a Friday, shall we?
01:12:07At first, every time I see fans in this water, I hear your voice saying, sharks in there, sharks in
01:12:13there.
01:12:13Sharks in there.
01:12:15Hydrofoil.
01:12:16That looks like a great time until you wipe, and then all of a sudden a dorsal fin shows up.
01:12:23And now, I don't know if you guys have looked in the news, we're dealing with saltwater crocodiles killing people
01:12:30now.
01:12:31Really?
01:12:31Yes, if you fall, head on a swivel, head on a swivel.
01:12:36That's a great question.
01:12:37How do you get back on?
01:12:38I don't know.
01:12:39So get the dogs out.
01:12:41Get the dogs out.
01:12:47That's not even fun for the dog.
01:12:51They're not enjoying that.
01:12:53And he looks elderly.
01:12:56Which one?
01:12:56The kid?
01:12:57Kid looks like a teenager.
01:12:59That dog looks like a teenager.
01:13:00I'm dealing with that right now.
01:13:02My dog camo is blind as a bat.
01:13:05A little one.
01:13:06He looks into it, though.
01:13:08He's ready.
01:13:10Yeah, this is...
01:13:12I get where his heart's at, but...
01:13:14Yeah, the dog's...
01:13:15Now you're feeding him saltwater, he's going to start hallucinating.
01:13:18It's all bad.
01:13:20It's all bad combination.
01:13:22If you're lost at sea, do not drink the saltwater.
01:13:25I know that.
01:13:26I watch Naked and Afraid on Discover.
01:13:28I know that.
01:13:29He signed a baby.
01:13:31Did you ever sign a baby?
01:13:33I don't know, but you can't get in Colt Emerson's way when he's in autograph mode.
01:13:39I don't think I'd sign babies.
01:13:41You don't remember Ricky Bobby Talladega Nights, where he signs a baby's forehead?
01:13:46Yeah.
01:13:47Yeah.
01:13:49All right.
01:13:50Some people are signing babies.
01:13:51Some people are reading at ballgames.
01:13:53Pass the time any way you wish.
01:13:56Wow.
01:13:56Anytime.
01:13:57I never understand this.
01:13:59Well, maybe she...
01:14:00You know what I thought about?
01:14:00Maybe she's with someone that's obsessed with baseball, and she's...
01:14:03The one day...
01:14:04You know what I mean?
01:14:05I like that.
01:14:06The one day you were my husband.
01:14:07That's the name of the book.
01:14:10Brewer's fans.
01:14:11Remember when we had to read...
01:14:13Maybe she's got a research paper due.
01:14:14Well, remember when you had to read books in grammar school in the summer?
01:14:17Did anyone do that?
01:14:20Yes.
01:14:20When you remember when you had to read books?
01:14:23Is that what you said?
01:14:24What?
01:14:24No, I'm saying like summer reading.
01:14:27Don't take my summer away from me.
01:14:29You get the Pizza Hut coupon.
01:14:31I love Pizza Hut.
01:14:32They're bringing back the buffet.
01:14:33The Pizza Hut buffet.
01:14:35As they should.
01:14:35As they should.
01:14:37Sky.
01:14:38What is this?
01:14:38Happened here.
01:14:40Spinning the pillow.
01:14:41He brought that from home.
01:14:42Is this like the next level of hacky sack?
01:14:45What is around his neck?
01:14:48Something he made?
01:14:49Maybe a...
01:14:49Something crack...
01:14:50Like a dinosaur cracking out of an egg?
01:14:53Oh.
01:14:53No, no, no, no.
01:14:55It looks like a candy necklace at the top.
01:14:57What's the dude doing?
01:15:00Hey, what do you think that pillow smells like?
01:15:02All we do is judge.
01:15:05Let's put ourselves up there.
01:15:08I bet you I know what that pillow smells like.
01:15:10Gross.
01:15:11That's gross.
01:15:11We're World Cup fans, and so is this guy.
01:15:16Yeah, that's great.
01:15:18Mexico scored, and he wants everybody to know.
01:15:21All right.
01:15:22All right?
01:15:23Yeah, that's great.
01:15:24How about in San Diego, this Padres fan in a bucket hat,
01:15:28trying to grab a home run.
01:15:30Yeah.
01:15:31He didn't even get leather on this.
01:15:34Aye.
01:15:35Oh.
01:15:36You're going to bring a glove and give me that effort?
01:15:38That's not what you want.
01:15:40We tried.
01:15:40It was just out of his reach.
01:15:43Wasn't it?
01:15:44Bucket hat.
01:15:45He...
01:15:45It was out of his reach.
01:15:46He's a base player for ZZ Top.
01:15:48On the bright side...
01:15:49Apparently, he didn't play catch as a kid.
01:15:51On the bright side, he is challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE title.
01:15:55I'm going to be honest with you.
01:15:56At no point, at no point should a bucket hat be.
01:16:01Really?
01:16:02Yeah.
01:16:02There's no situation where a bucket hat's okay.
01:16:04I mean, it's good protection.
01:16:06It's good protection.
01:16:07You're going to wear a bucket hat in the rain.
01:16:09I don't know.
01:16:10You know, like, you know, on an excursion.
01:16:13All right, what else?
01:16:14I think we got one more.
01:16:15There's a new promotion at Kaufman.
01:16:17Fans have 35 seconds to put an inflatable hot dog together.
01:16:23So they got to put the dog in the bun?
01:16:28Let's go.
01:16:29My dad is...
01:16:30Who comes up with these?
01:16:31If they get there, everyone gets the hot dog.
01:16:34See, everyone's excited because they get a hot dog, a free hot dog.
01:16:39Robert, what creep can you know what you want to do with that?
01:16:43What creep with Kansas City in the come back room?
01:16:45The same ones that did the hot dog seesaw in Toronto.
01:16:50That's still, that is the best thing of all time.
01:16:52Yeah.
01:16:53Hey, guys.
01:16:53Schneideman.
01:16:54Hey, guys.
01:16:54Hear me out.
01:16:56We make a seesaw, put it in the shape of a hot dog, and who knows?
01:17:02And we carve out holes.
01:17:04And who knows?
01:17:04And put cameras in them.
01:17:06Yeah.
01:17:06And then we all...
01:17:08And then they're like, HR, remove Jeremy.
01:17:13I leave you with this last one.
01:17:16And the minor leaks.

01:17:20No!
01:17:21Oh!
01:17:23Oh!
01:17:25Geez!
01:17:27Let's see.
01:17:27That's the first home run.
01:17:28That's also a two-ball count.
01:17:32Oh, mommy.
01:17:34Oh, my God.
01:17:37Robert.
01:17:38Robert.
01:17:39You told me not to laugh, and you're laughing.
01:17:41Why is he going for the basket catch?
01:17:43I don't know.
01:17:44You got it.
01:17:44You want to catch it up?
01:17:45I mean, come on.
01:17:46Exactly.
01:17:46He caught it right in the basket.
01:17:49But don't worry.
01:17:50His basket's empty.
01:17:52You know what?
01:17:54Hey, guys.
01:17:55Hey, not a bow!
01:17:57Nothing beats arm side run.
01:18:00Nothing.
01:18:01This guy's...
01:18:03You have said arm side run, but we showed this clip for 10 years.
01:18:08He's a gamer in high school.
01:18:09He's a gamer in high school.
01:18:09Look at that.
01:18:10He's a guy.
01:18:11Oh, my...
01:18:14This guy is just taking a pinch.
01:18:17Goal!
01:18:18Hey, our researcher Max, no lie, played college baseball with that pitcher, with a guy that
01:18:23threw the pitch.
01:18:23Let me guess his strike-out-to-walk ratio.
01:18:26Oh, great.
01:18:27Oh, my Lord.
01:18:29Okay.
01:18:29I've said arm side run for a decade.
01:18:31I laughed every time.
01:18:32Golly.
01:18:33That's always going to be funny.
01:18:35That is always going to be good stuff.
01:18:37Okay, let's take a quick timeout.
01:18:39I think it's...
01:18:41My man Andrews almost blew an ACL going for it.
01:18:45Watch this.
01:18:46Hey!
01:18:46Oh!
01:18:48Oh!
01:18:48Golly!

01:18:51That was a direct hit.
01:18:53He got it.
01:18:54He got everything.
01:18:56He had the camera on him.
01:18:58It's unbelievable.
01:18:59Sometimes, you know, you may be grazing, but no, sir.
01:19:03No, sir.
01:19:04Even the graze will take you down.

01:19:16More central.
01:19:16We've got prop bets on the other side, and then we're going home.

01:19:32That's a great list, though.
01:19:34Wow.
01:19:34That's amazing.
01:19:35That's like Plant High School down in Tampa with all the baseball players.
01:19:38Fan duel, odds and trends, Garrett Cole, baby.
01:19:42Over, under five and a half strikeouts.

01:20:01All have been decided by one run.
01:20:03Yeah, give me Gavin Williams.
01:20:05I'll always go with the upside shutdown arm, especially coming off the emotions of last night.
01:20:11White Sox are ten games below .500 on the ROAD.
01:20:14The Guardians are 23-20 at home.
01:20:18Lastly, friend of the program, Shea Bangaliers.
01:20:23Shea Langaliers to record at least two total bases taken on the Marlins.
01:20:26Tyler Phillips is the starter for Miami.
01:20:30Yeah, I'm going to take it.
01:20:31This is why we need to reimagine.
01:20:32Because we're saying yes to everything because we're nice people and we want good for everybody.
01:20:39You know what I'm saying?
01:20:40Well, listen, you know what?
01:20:41I'll send an email, run it up the food chain, see what happens.
01:20:45Guys, FanDuel is inviting you to call your shot with Daily Dinger.
01:20:51Make your free pick on who's hitting a home run in their game.

01:21:17The head doesn't move.
01:21:19This is a kickstand.
01:21:20Whether you leg kick, toe tap, doesn't matter.
01:21:22If you guys had to have one tattoo, what would it be?
01:21:26I'd have a teardrop.
01:21:27Uh-oh.
01:21:28I got the impression the ballplayers don't really hit the streets.
01:21:32Down there.
01:21:32I don't know where you got that from, but, uh...
01:21:35You love Mrs. Met.
01:21:36Why?
01:21:37I don't.
01:21:37Jack K.
01:21:38You guys can do what you want.
01:21:39I'm getting an Uber, and he's dropping me off at the Bronx.

01:21:44Actually, horrible.
01:21:45You get it, BK, right?
01:21:47It's not bad.
01:21:47I'm supposed to get knocks off Gage Wood with two spicy chickens in him.
01:21:52Just boom, boom, boom.
01:21:54Penny throw a smash route.
01:21:55That's the question.
01:21:57Robert used to pitch, too.
01:21:58What do they call you in high school, Robert?
01:22:00The dragon.
01:22:00Uh, Robert.
01:22:02Do you ever think about taking a lollipop out there?
01:22:05No, no, no, no.
01:22:06There he is, boys.
01:22:07He's our savior.
01:22:08Where are we going to dinner?
01:22:09He started like, yo, I'm coming to get you.
01:22:11Once I start to get here and turned, now I've got to come out of it.

01:22:22pretty happy up there.
01:22:23Why don't you take a picture of your feet and put it on the air?
01:22:25Oh, God.
01:22:26Are you a fucker soon?
01:22:28What?
01:22:32What a fun week.
01:22:33It's Ben.
01:22:33Thanks for spending it with us.
01:22:34It's time to go.
01:22:35Time to walk it off.
01:22:36D.R. said earlier in the show, under no circumstance, unless you're in a rainforest, should you wear a bucket
01:22:41hat?
01:22:42Big Steve has thoughts, I am told, on that.
01:22:45Okay, Big Steve.
01:22:46Some reaction.
01:22:47He always has thoughts.
01:22:47He always has thoughts.
01:22:48Do we have that tweet?
01:22:49Go to X right now.
01:22:51All right, it's on the way.
01:22:52Big Steve has thoughts on a lot of things.
01:22:53He does.
01:22:54You muted him, but I like him.
01:22:55I know.
01:22:56He means well.
01:22:57He means well.
01:22:58He means well.
01:22:59What does he say?
01:23:00Is it stuck in EVS somewhere?

01:23:09He must rock a bucket hat.
01:23:12Oh, bucket hat set men back generations is what Big Steve says.
01:23:17Okay.
01:23:18Okay.
01:23:18All right.
01:23:18Yeah, I just would never.
01:23:20It's like the golfer with the visor.
01:23:23I've never gone down that route.
01:23:25It's not your route.
01:23:26But I'm not a big hat wearer away from the field because I always felt like I was going to
01:23:31go bald.
01:23:32Don't hats make you bald?
01:23:33That was always the urban.
01:23:35I don't know.
01:23:36You know what is also a very tricky look to pull off for men?
01:23:39T-shirts tucked into shorts.
