00:06:43imagine the emotion I can't imagine the grief and then he had to play in the game he's been looking
00:06:50forward to his whole entire life so from us at MLB Network our thoughts are with you we are we
00:06:57are lifting
00:06:57you up and I want to go to Los Angeles where all the fans were in support and loving him

00:07:06this was Eliezer Alfonso when he came up in the bottom of the third a standing ovation from

00:08:09after the game this is a tough moment because like three weeks ago she told me that she had a
00:08:18beautiful dream but she wasn't going to tell me anything until the dream came true and I'm pretty
00:08:24sure the dream was something about this and I wish she she was she was alive to watch me playing

00:08:34league's bed I know she's in God's eyes now and she's going to protect me and she's going to enjoy
00:08:44every moment that I'm going to have outside playing she had a beautiful dream for her brother to live out

00:11:09fireworks there was so much good in our game it was the all-star nominations and so much happening

00:11:38able to lock in on a huge fireworks spectacle oh heck yeah over the Hudson yep okay the best one

00:11:44saw I'll never forget 2012 in DC there's nothing better on the Potomac oh in our nation's capital I was
00:11:50there last right well up at the lake up at B-Max house they were blowing off like monster fireworks

00:13:57punch outs Seattle is seven one in his last eight starts he has a 178 ERA in that span and

00:14:13first time all-star it has been the entire first half for him yeah and over the weekend three for

00:15:17starting to and he's from your area too Lauren I remember having him on the show talking about some
00:15:22deli Mexican restaurant you got to be careful with all that glitter you can't you got to be careful

00:15:36if the Marlins are going to get there past the trade deadline together we're going to talk about

00:20:43injury
00:20:44aaron judge still dealing with his rib injury so there's a chance that buxton judge who knows what
00:20:50what trout is going to do maybe the outfield looks vastly different than what this graphic is showing
00:20:54d-roll he's right this american league outfield could look so different than it looks right now
00:21:00and that's why we won't know until and the other thing is vladimir guerrero jr dealing with a back
00:21:05issue he is not going to take part in the game nick kurtz will replace him as a start as
00:21:11for your
00:21:12national league it looks like this by the way shout out to brandon marsh what a season season and a
00:21:17half two seasons he's put together and to be starting in his home ballpark that has to feel
00:21:22very good juan soto andy pajes uh shohei otani is your dh freddie freeman at first base ozzy
00:21:29i'll be cj abrams max muncie and drake baldwin 26 first timers are part of the all-star squad
00:21:37in philadelphia as for um yeah d-roll what what do you make of kind of the all-star
00:21:45teams as a whole there yeah a couple things you you want to give love to some of the guys
00:21:50who had
00:21:51monster first halves in the american league shea langoliers has really stepped up and become one of
00:21:56the premier catchers in the game sitting on 20 homers going into the break he's been fantastic
00:22:02nick kurtz probably should have been the starter over vlad to begin with so i think it kind of works
00:22:08itself out that way i'd love i'd love to see mike trout run out on that field in philly he
00:22:14grew up not
00:22:14too far away from that yard and i think the fans would go bonkers to see him ernie clement being
00:22:20the
00:22:21leading vote getter american league yeah blue jay fans and i know byron buxton is probably like you
00:22:28said dealing with the hip but we can't deny this guy's got 25 jacks and ops north of 900 he
00:22:35is
00:22:35fantastic for that and a few notes zero that are worthy of talking about robert said at 26 first
00:22:41time all-star four rookies braves dodgers and phillies each sending five players that's tied for
00:22:47the most of any club but the 26 first time all-stars dear i mean you did it all in
00:22:51this game and you've
00:22:52talked about so much about how much an all-star nomination would have meant to you 26 first time
00:22:58this is a big deal huge deal let's give let's focus on a few guys right let's focus on the
00:23:04fact that
00:23:05kevin mcgonigal was in the futures game leading into the all-star game and now he's an all-star and
00:23:11he's
00:23:11got more walks than strikeouts that's on look at them rice riley green i think the world's starting to
00:23:19figure out he's fantastic so those two tigers going on the flip side in the national league with the
00:23:26reserves butter goodman's got 27 homers he's done most of his damage away from coors field so i love
00:23:35the i love the fact that he's getting his recognition and if we're facing the game on war
00:23:42p crow armstrong's been the most like complete baseball player the entire first half and also
00:23:51just kind of a little to get bryce harper into that game which he should have been there from jump
00:23:57is rob manfred steps up and makes him the legends pick on the national league side so he'll get a
00:24:02rousing ovation when he gets up auto lopez two years ago was waived now he's in the all-star game
00:24:08and i love what you said deservedly deservedly so i love what you said about pco pca because we always
00:24:14talk about that it factor whatever it is he has it but he's also he's so electric but he's learning
00:24:19this
00:24:20in front of our eyes i feel like he's growing up as a ball player on the biggest stage doing
00:24:25the
00:24:25biggest things in the biggest moments in front of our eyes so it's very cool to see that kind of
00:24:29come
00:24:30to fruition cool all-star yeah let's take a look at the pitching staff for both the american league
00:24:35and the national league and which pitchers will be going a lot of first-timers here as you take a
00:24:41look
00:24:41at the american league dylan c spryan baker among those first-timers along with jacob last and parker
00:24:48messick hey d-ro jacob latz might be a name that even our viewers aren't aware of but he's been
00:24:56excellent for that rangers bullpen he's been fantastic he's been a lockdown closer for them
00:25:01he has i mean you can go up and down this list brian baker in tampa i was shocked to
00:25:07learn dylan
00:25:08cease hadn't been to an all-star game and that this will be his first he's been one of the
00:25:12better
00:25:12pitchers you know strikeout wise in the entire game for a while cam schlittler minus the one clunker's
00:25:19been fantastic for the new york yankees and then flip it to the national league chase burns is going to
00:25:25fight for a cy young with miserowski and otani so the guy who kind of jumps out at me here
00:25:32is eduardo rodriguez this being his first all-star game and facing him in the finals for the wbc for
00:25:39venezuela nothing he has taken that and gone right into the season and had an amazing first half so
00:25:47pretty cool up and down the lineup for them to get all-star nods i think what's interesting when
00:25:53you look at that national league graphic it was first second third and chris sails like tenth he's
00:25:58the only he's the only one now as we mentioned when we showed you the american league starting
00:26:04lineup vladimir guerrero jr was listed however he is not going to play he has respectfully declined
00:26:10as a result of an injury he's been dealing with let's hear from what vlad had to say about this
00:26:15over
00:26:15the weekend very grateful for everyone that vote for me but at this time i'm very respectfully i'm
00:26:28declining to go decide to rest and to prepare myself for the for the second half of the season maybe
00:26:36like a week ago before i always take a decision i did i talked to my family some of the
00:26:42veteran guys
00:26:42years as you guys know uh i'm being having a little bit issues with my lower back so i i
00:26:51think that
00:26:51comes first uh for me to to prepare myself uh for me and for my team and to have a
00:26:58strong half uh second
00:26:59half and that was uh the main thing of uh my decision dira what'd you make of this decision and

00:27:06of it do you think is health and how much of it is it do you think he's saying i'm

00:27:50had monster first halves i look at vlad if toronto's going to make a run at this thing he has
00:27:56got to be
00:27:56firing on all cylinders we saw this last year with julio rodriguez he declined he like politely declined and
00:28:04then he went bonkers in the second half for seattle so maybe there's a little bit of that he realizes
00:28:10he
00:28:11has to be the guy 266 with four and 14 doubles and 35 rbis i mean it's not enough and
00:28:19he knows it and
00:28:20if it's something with his low back that he can get right he appreciates the fan support but he
00:28:25understands the the bigger prize at stake in the second half for the blue jays that makes sense uh blue
00:28:30jays in san francisco tonight to take on the giants beginning a series there we're gonna have to
00:28:35leave it there but when we come back six outs away from history and the marlins take yuri perez

00:41:03last week with the tigers to a great game against the yankees and he knows the score he knows what's
00:41:08up he knows that there's a good chance that he'll be traded even if they are back in the race

00:41:14not a bad team but i i think that they feel that they can get a lot for him and
00:41:19uh doesn't mean they're
00:41:20giving up if they do trade him but i i think that either way whether they're in the race or
00:41:25not there's
00:41:25a good chance that they do trade him because he is obviously a free agent to be there isn't a

00:41:31chance that they will be able to keep him and uh you know so i think he understands it's fairly
00:41:37likely
00:41:38at this point that he does get traded i'm gonna throw in the phillies there we've heard them their
00:41:42name a little bit but uh obviously they've been looking for a number of different things but we know
00:41:48they have talked about starting pitching more on the back end of the thing but uh i i wouldn't be
00:41:54shocked to beat the dodgers you gotta have left handers obviously they got sanchez and luzardo
00:41:59you add scoobal to that that's a pretty good trio of left handers so i'm gonna throw the phillies in
00:42:05there and you mentioned the yankees yeah it goes up and down back and forth now with the rodon injury
00:42:10he's gonna be out four to six weeks presumably i mean this is a team that came in with a
00:42:15ton of ton of
00:42:16starting pitching and you wouldn't have thought that scoobal would be a possibility for them i still
00:42:21think that they're probably a long shot for scoobal but they are gonna look at starting pitching so
00:42:26you do never know it's interesting to see what team has the most attractive assemblance of players
00:42:32back we will see come the deadline we said it earlier in the show 26 first-time all-stars four
00:42:38rookies john hayman i thought wow but it's the veteran all-stars who could find themselves in a
00:42:43different uniform where do you want to start who do you think yeah there's about seven guys who could
00:42:49be traded uh who are all-stars at this point now we will have guys added so we'll see who
00:42:54else could
00:42:55sure it could look different join in that mix but we got a pretty good list here certainly arise who's
00:43:00a free agent to be buxton's got the full no trade he's having a fantastic season so and he he
00:43:06has a
00:43:06little bit of a hip situation now so probably not that likely with him chapman we don't know with
00:43:11the red sox i mean they're playing better now we don't know it's been going back and forth whether
00:43:15they're a buyer or seller goodman i think that's a big long shot and ryan as well the twins they're
00:43:22they're not out of it right they've played pretty well not just against the yankees but overall
00:43:26waka who's having a terrific season leads in innings pitch in the american league uh potentially there but
00:43:32they do have an option on him for the following year logan webb that's a long shot too because i

00:43:37they've said they want to hold on to him he's got a team friendly deal had a 0.71 era
00:43:42last month
00:43:43that's pretty good era so uh it's a collection of guys about seven guys there uh i think the
00:43:48likelihood is we'll see two three or four of them traded most likely number one on that list it's
00:43:53got to be a rise and the rise is having a great year he's in 326 really improved defensively the
00:43:59players voted him in he definitely deserves it i mean it's one of the bright spots with the giants
00:44:04along with lee and schmidt and eldridge so they do have a few bright spots but he's a free agent
00:44:09after the year he had trouble in free agency shouldn't have trouble now i mean they're going
00:44:13to be teams that are interested depends on you know injuries need different things like that i mean
00:44:18tampa potentially could use a second baseman so uh that to me is a fit but uh he should be
00:44:25traded
00:44:25because they're not in the race do you feel the same about michael waka would you put him in that
00:44:29category as well no because they have an option on him for the following year but yeah i
00:44:34i think there's a decent chance that he could get traded they're not in contention i think they
00:44:39have underperformed i do think that team is better than it's played but realistically right now they
00:44:44are one of the few teams in the american league that does not seem to be in contention i feel

00:44:52positive because we want to give these players their due there are inevitably snubs right that's what i'm
