We have waited all season long and now the NBA Playoffs are finally upon us.
Transcript
00:00All right. So a few things here. One, just to make a point clear, there are two separate things. One
00:08is, does Brad Holmes have a earned tag of being in love with injured players trying to be the smartest
00:14guy in the room? I don't think any more than many other teams like guys take teams have to take
00:20chances on. You don't have to, I suppose, but you really narrow the field if you want a perfectly healthy
00:25player. And I don't think it's earned.
00:27I think many GMs do this because guys come back from injuries. That's one conversation. A totally separate conversation is,
00:39would you take Jermon McCoy? And I would not. And the reason I wouldn't is because I don't want to
00:46take that risk with a player that hasn't shown lateral movement.
00:49If Daniel Jeremiah is factually correct in this specific instance with this specific draft and where this roster is, I
00:57would not take that chance.
00:58If you had the team doctor tell you he is way ahead of schedule, that lateral movement is going to
01:04come back real soon. I mean, clearly he's running really well, straightforward with the 4-3 speed.
01:11I mean, fully expecting to have the lateral movement by July. Would that change how you feel?
01:16Yeah, and I would want the team doctor to point out, okay, here's an example of players in the past
01:21who had the same diagnosis, the same injury, where they were at this point in the timeline, and how they
01:26recovered.
01:27If you could show me all that, which I don't have the team doctor accessibility to it, so we're going
01:31with the information available.
01:33Yeah, I could be talked into it.
01:35Look, you know, I'm not a hard and fast rules guy when it comes to the draft, but I also
01:40know what I don't know, which is a big problem with a lot of people today.
01:45But in the case, and that's a wider issue, but in the case of Jermon McCoy, if I had a
01:49doctor that says, here are five examples of the exact same injury at the 11-month mark, or I guess
01:55it would be 13th, you heard it in January, so it would be like the 14-month mark coming back.
02:00Here are five examples of exactly the same timeline, and these guys all turned out fine.
02:04Then I'd be more inclined, yes, to do it.
02:08What else do we got here?
02:10More Lions feedback.
02:12You know, quarterbacks always get overdrafted.
02:13I will shoot the boot guarantee that Ty Simpson gets drafted before the Lions selection.
02:19Okay.
02:21I don't know who this is because they didn't sign their text.
02:25Next, if you sent the text that you will shoot the boot guarantee that Ty Simpson gets drafted before the
02:30Lions selection, please send it in and claim it so we know who to shame into actually shooting the boot
02:37if it doesn't happen.
02:42Next text, the only reason we're not excited about this pick is because we need an offensive tackle or an
02:47edge rusher so bad, and we know that we're not going to get one of those positions.
02:53You know that?
02:55You know that.
02:56Because it feels like, and look, I don't have access to the Lions board, but it feels like there's a
03:03lot of good tackles and edge rushers that could be on the board at 17, where BPA and need would
03:08align.
03:09And I don't think Brad Holmes passively sits there and lets the BPAs at the position of need disappear.
03:19I think he will try to move up and align those two things if necessary.
03:23So it might not happen at 17, but that's interesting.
03:29It feels like this is a draft where need and BPA will align because they have more needs than they've
03:38had in the past.
03:39They have a need to tackle.
03:41You could argue they've got a need at guard.
03:45They certainly have a need at edge rusher.
03:47They have a need at safety.
03:48They have a need at corner.
03:49There's lots of needs on this team.
03:52So I don't know what his draft board looks like if he's just ranking players from top to bottom, from
03:59one to 200.
04:00I have no idea where those players fit.
04:03Like how high is Dylan Thienemann on his list?
04:06Is he number 10 on his list?
04:07Then don't be surprised if they take the safety at 17.
04:10I don't know.
04:11I don't know where McCoy is at.
04:14But we know what lots of other pundits feel, what media members feel.
04:19But as far as Brad Holmes, nobody knows what Brad Holmes is thinking.
04:24Freeling is a project.
04:25Raskor is great and all, but he's not ready to start in the NFL.
04:29Ione is the pick.
04:30If he's there, don't care that he's a guard.
04:33Sauce and how.
04:34I wouldn't be mad if Vig Ione is the pick.
04:37My number two.
04:37At all.
04:38Mine as well.
04:41And look, after watching him, I'm sorry, the guy is a problem in the middle of the offensive line.
04:48He is going to be very tough on defensive tackles.
04:52He's going to be great in run blocking.
04:54In many ways, if I were to look at sure things in the draft, he might be one of the
05:00bigger ones that I would put near the top of the list as a sure thing.
05:03Look, they got Rattledge last year in the second round, and Rattledge looks like he's going to be a good
05:08guard.
05:08I don't know how high his ceiling is, but it looks like he's going to be good.
05:12Ione is supposed to be outstanding.
05:15There's a reason he's got a first-round grade, and some people have him going as high as 10 or
05:2011.
05:23So if you get that kind of an upgrade over what you have at left guard, no offense to Christian
05:28Mahogany or Miles Frazier or whoever else is competing for that job,
05:33if I've got a chance to land this guy, I'm going to try.
05:372-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
05:40All right, that's it.
05:41We get to some Pistons stuff.
05:43Pistons will play Eastern Conference first round against Orlando or Charlotte come Sunday night.
05:51Question.
05:52Are you surprised this game hasn't sold out?
05:56A little bit.
05:58A little bit, but I know how it works.
06:00You know, you get into April, and you've got people that have spent money on trying to get to opening
06:08day for the Tigers.
06:10You've got people that have spent money watching Michigan make its run in the NCAA tournament in a couple of
06:18different sports.
06:18In Michigan State, same way.
06:20I mean, you start to see that there's some funds, some disposable income that has gone away.
06:24That being said, I would expect it to be sold out for Sunday.
06:29I got the dot matrix map in front of me, and so there's plenty of resale tickets.
06:35I would say there's maybe 500, 600 blue dots, which are the seats that haven't sold yet.
06:44The buying price is $91.80.
06:47That's obviously going to get your upper bowl.
06:49It looks like $2.10 is the lowest price I've been able to find for lower bowl tickets, $2.10
06:55apiece.
06:59But you think back to last year's postseason and what LCA was like.
07:04I give the Knicks a ton of credit for being able to come in here and win.
07:08The place was chaos.
07:10It was absolute chaos.
07:11And even the Knicks, when games were over, that was kind of wild.
07:16It was a war.
07:16Yep.
07:17It was a hell of a series.
07:19Yep.
07:20And it's going to be a great atmosphere on Sunday.
07:22It's going to be a great atmosphere for all the games at LCA.
07:25The crowd's going to bring it.
07:27The damn thunder sticks are going to be there.
07:28We know how loud those are.
07:30It's going to be a crazy atmosphere, and it's going to be crazy good.
07:34And this year, we get a favorable first-round matchup.
07:38Last year, they were the upstart Pistons just trying to get in there and make their move.
07:41And I thought they outplayed the Knicks.
07:43They didn't win the series, but they outplayed them.
07:45This year, it's different.
07:46Pistons are the number one seed.
07:47They just got done winning 60 games.
07:49They are, knocking on wood here, pretty damn healthy going into this postseason.
07:54I like their chances no matter who it is.
07:57If it's Orlando or if it's Charlotte, whoever wins tonight, that's the opponent on Sunday.
08:01I don't really care.
08:03Whoever they get, I'm going to go online and see if I can find somebody to pick the Pistons to
08:09lose in the first round.
08:12Because if we haven't found anybody that picks them to win the championship, I wonder if we can see the
08:17other extreme.
08:18Will anybody pick them to lose in the first round?
08:21Because nobody's picking to win the whole thing.
08:23I'm going to say this without any data to support it.
08:27But I'm going to say it with conviction so it might be true.
08:30Okay.
08:30This is the most disrespected one seed in the history of the NBA.
08:36Who says I'm wrong?
08:38Right.
08:38Who's going to do the research?
08:42Who's going to bother Googling stuff?
08:45Kang, how far off is that?
08:48They're definitely disrespected.
08:50I don't know if they're the most ever.
08:51History of the NBA.
08:53Yeah, right?
08:53History of the game being invented ever.
08:55Yeah.
08:57I did see a stat where they're right up there with the longest odds as far as a team that
09:01won 60 regular season games.
09:03You know?
09:04So that actually is the data that might support it.
09:07Yeah.
09:07Uh-huh.
09:08But not all those 60-win teams were also one seed.
09:11So, but, yeah.
09:13I mean, they're definitely, listen, they're not the favorite.
09:16They're not even, like, they're not popular pick.
09:19They're just people, if anything, it's a feel-good story for the regular season, feel-good story for the Pistons,
09:23but they think it's going to run out at some point during the playoffs.
09:26They just don't see it happening to most people.
09:27And then Vegas feels the same way.
09:29That's why the odds are where they're at.
09:30So, 248-539-9797, Piston fans.
09:33Hey, look, there are tickets available if you want to buy them.
09:37Let's go pack this place out for Sunday night.
09:40We'll get to your phone calls and feedback.
09:42When we continue, 248-539-9797.
09:46It's Carson Anderson.
09:47Just a reminder, coming up next hour, another edition of Are You Going to Eat That?
09:52Additionally, we have some more Lions stuff to get to, so sit tight.
09:57We're with you until 2 here on 97.1.
