00:00And we're just talking about club selection. So it came down to five or six.
00:05And we ultimately decided that it was going to be a hard six iron, you know, when it became his
00:10turn to play.
00:11So KJ Choice putting out on the green in front of us and he misses about a five or six
00:15footer, I think, if memory serves.
00:17And there was a kind of a strange murmur from the patrons.
00:21And so I turned to the cameraman behind us and I said, you know, what gives?
00:24And he said, you know, KJ just made six. I think you guys are tied to the lead now.
00:30So that was my kind of my my opening in the door to go back at Phil just to, you
00:35know, sometimes guys are 80 percent in.
00:37Sometimes they're 100 percent in. And I just went back at him and said, hey, listen, I don't know if
00:41this changes how you're thinking.
00:42But, you know, KJ just made six here and you're tied for the lead. And I'll never forget what he
00:47said to me.
00:48He said he said, if I'm going to win this tournament today, at some point, I'm going to have to
00:52hit a great shot under a lot of pressure.
00:55I'm going to do it right now. And that caddy goodness, that caddy voice in my head said, get out
01:01of his way.
01:02And so, you know, you grab that you grab the bag, you get out of his way and he hit
01:06the six iron to the trees to four feet.
01:08And it was, you know, in my years with him, the greatest shot I ever saw him hit.
01:13And it was an amazing thing to witness.
01:17All in all, a really good birdie, right?
01:19Yeah. You know, the four footer went four feet by and he and he made that one coming back.
01:27But, yeah, it was, you know, I always thought, you know, there's so much tradition in history in Augusta National.
01:33And and if you do certain things at certain places in the golf course, they might build a little tribute
01:38to you,
01:38whether, of course, you've got the Hogan Bridges and you've got some, you know, some some monuments out there.
01:44And I always thought that if maybe it Phil had made that eagle pot, that they might have done something
01:48there up in the trees as a tribute to Phil.
01:51And he's winning his third Masters, but couldn't get the pot to go down.
01:55Yeah, I hate to ruin a good story there. I mean, that's just incredible, incredible insight.
02:01I would agree with you, too. In that situation, it's always so hard to when you're playing a shot and
02:06you can't look out in front of you and see it.
02:08If a tree isn't is blocking your view.
02:10And it always felt like to me when Phil hit that shot, that that's what he was dealing with, is
02:15that he was, you know,
02:17having to look and really just having to trust his memory of of what what the shot was in front
02:22of him and having to trust, you know,
02:24just where his club face was aiming was going to be the right place.
02:28And that's just a lot to trust there.
02:31Yeah, you're right. And, you know, we talked a little while ago about Crenshaw being a field player and certainly
02:35Phil was was in that same vein.
02:37And let's not forget, in terms of that, that funky visual he had on that second shot there,
02:42he also was standing on a lot of pine straw and I was worried about him slipping.
02:46So, you know, because he was going to have to go at that that iron shot pretty, pretty hard.
02:51So lots of thoughts to deal with on that particular shot.
02:55But of course, you know, he pulled it off in spectacular fashion.
