00:12i just remember y'all looking for the phil's golf ball for a while what happened over there left
00:17the four so it was the it was the whole location just over that false front we see there uh

00:25in the front left part of the green and certainly to that to that pin the the middle bunker if

00:33will the right bunker of the two is no good it's very difficult not impossible but it's very
00:39difficult to hit a bunker shot close to that hole from that bunker so phil was thinking at the time
00:45that if anything he wanted to hit it in the left bunker which was you know certainly a very very
00:50you know solid way to go about thinking what he was doing there so he kind of hedged his bets

00:56little bit towards that bunker and he blocked it you know not too far but about 30 40 feet with

01:02i don't know a three or a four iron it's a very long par three and then uh you know
01:07the uh
01:09then all hell broke loose because the ball hit the railing on the uh there in the where the
01:16spectators were sitting there oh wow hit the railing right in front of the spectators it was
01:22not a terrible shot by any means the the uh the bleachers there went right up very close to that
01:27bunker and it went i don't know what that is 50 or 60 yards left into the bamboo there left
01:35of the
01:35hole that no one's ever been in in the history of that hole and you know there we are uh
01:42you know
01:42trying to extricate ourselves from an unbelievable mess trying you know like crazy to make four and
01:48i think we end up making five and and it certainly derailed his uh his chances there of making or
01:54wanting to get another masters there on that sunday but that's how we got over there the ball hit the
01:59railing of the bleachers and went crazy i guarantee you augusta national moved those bleachers uh the
02:06following year huh well it's it's that's that's when we get to 18 t i'll tell you a funny story
02:12about how uh the the masters tends to do things based on stuff that they see out there but yeah
02:18i it was uh the bleachers were probably a little closer than they needed to be and uh it certainly
02:24had a huge hugely negative impact on phil's uh quest there that that year okay bones how often do you

02:31see a par three like this have two tee boxes that have close to 70 yards of difference between a
02:38front number at one and a front number at the back tee i mean it's it's just wild the difference

02:44these two uh tee boxes can play it is smiley uh to your point that upper tee box they tend
02:50to only use
02:51to a back right hole location uh it's a you know seven or an eight iron something like that maybe
02:57even
02:57less for some of the longer hitters but you know that it's highly likely that three of those four
03:02rounds you're going to be on that back tee and this hole is a bear uh you're gonna you're gonna

03:08back there you know even to a pin just over the right green side bunker just three or four over
03:14that
03:14bunker you're you're likely to be back there on that back tee and it's it's it's huge it can be

03:21hybrid it can be a fairway wood it can be the longest iron you've got in your bag it's a

03:27unbelievably difficult hole i believe if i'm not mistaken only one person has made a hole in one
03:32on this on this hole in the masters and i believe it was jeff slewman uh someone back in the

03:3790s maybe even late 80s but uh it's a whole smiley where we're just trying to make three and get

03:44here yes a hundred percent and uh the fourth the fifth and the sixth hole uh i have this in
03:51my notes
03:51and i want to check it with you are the three holes that don't have a raised creek pull is

03:57you also agree with that it all kind of goes in between those three holes in that wooded area
04:03that's a really good question uh you kind of stumped me on that um i all i know is that
04:08for years and
04:10years up in the especially dating back to the old caddy house that they had there they had diagrams of
04:16all
04:16the greens they're up there on the wall and they had dots on it like you did you know you
04:21know which
04:21is closest to to to raise creek so i i think that the locals think there's a pull on virtually
04:27every
04:28green but you are on a very low point of the golf course here so it would make sense that
04:32uh um
04:33that maybe it's not quite as uh as significant as there's other places
