01:55as the knicks are having their championship parade today well listen man you already know what my
02:01heart was the entire time with that i'm a wimby guy and um and the young spurs i was very
02:07impressed
02:08with what they were able to accomplish and i thought they they really overachieved in a lot
02:12of people's eyes not mine because i actually had them going deep uh from the very beginning but that
02:18being said um you got to take your hat off to what the new york knicks were able to do
02:23and jaylen
02:24brunson and og and all these guys because what they did was reaffirm what i've always said is that
02:31team basketball is always going to win out and they play team basketball um probably
02:38better than anybody in the league because they don't have the most talented roster in the league
02:42but they to me particularly when mike brown made those adjustments at the end of the season that
02:48basically took the ball out of jaylen brunson's hands um and and put it back in his hands toward
02:54the end of games when they really needed him to close that whole mindset and allowing other guys to
02:59get involved man it really changed their team and uh defensively they did what they needed to do
03:05uh without having an elite shot blocker and and they they played great team basketball and jaylen
03:11brunson proved why he's the clutch player of the year have you ever seen a run like that though i
03:17mean
03:17they lost one time in what five weeks or so i've never seen a run like that be mentioned and
03:25then
03:26couple it with this not only did they have the run like you just mentioned but it was a run
03:31from
03:31a team that everybody had rolled off during the regular season yeah like they'd be because they
03:37just did not look good it was like oh man the knicks it's there it's over it's a wrap for
03:42them
03:42that mean they they nobody was talking about the knicks and so when you consider they came from that
03:48to going on that type of run man that was incredible well dude i mean people thought the
03:52sixers were going to give them a series in the second round there and that sure didn't happen
03:56um all right we're talking even close not even close talking with our friend tony massenberg catch
04:00all of his work on monumental sports network doing wizards games mass we're getting so close to the
04:06draft here i'm curious i'm guessing you've watched tape on all these prospects what do you kind of
04:12think of the guys at the top to bonsa um certainly peterson boozer what do you make of the of
04:18the level
04:19of talent available well first of all i don't think you can go wrong um i don't think you can
04:24really
04:25have a hard swing and a miss at anybody in the top three i think when you look at it
04:30um i i'm very
04:33intrigued by what the uh peterson uh the bonsu um you know caleb these guys to me are are they're
04:42elite
04:43level athletes first of all and so and b mitch can appreciate this as an nfl guy you know when
04:51a guy
04:51comes in b mitch even before he steps on the field when there are certain measurables when there are
04:57certain things that you see that are that are you know exceptional even at the pro level we're talking
05:02about athleticism that guy you know has a chance now it's a matter of what's his skill level can he
05:09actually play will he get better how much passion does he have for the game uh to push himself to
05:16be
05:16the best that he can be with his god-given ability so when i look at those top three guys
05:22that i just
05:22mentioned i see that i like boozer from a skill standpoint um i look at his game it's a little
05:29bit old school he's a big body but he's highly skilled can shoot the basketball can handle the
05:34basketball can pass um i'm i sometimes i look at him and i question how much success he can have
05:40playing down low because guys are so athletic and so tall now him at six nine about 250 with not
05:47a lot
05:48of length um meaning not super long arms and and doesn't play above the rim so but his skill level
05:54i think will allow him to have success the other three guys do play above the rim and and have
06:00exceptional skill levels and clearly the potential to get better is what excites all the gms and coaches
06:06across the league you look at all the bounces what 6 11 6 10 whatever and then you come down
06:12to
06:12peterson the shorter guy but explosive as hell you know when you like i i heard someone say uh it
06:19comes
06:20down to what the situation is like both of the guys could be a number one the wizards do they
06:26need
06:26more of a point are they uh guard or they need more of a a long guy here's here's what
06:32i'm gonna say
06:32about that and again when it comes to the wizards and who they select i'm going to put my confidence
06:39in their decision making based off the history of what i've seen them do over the last couple of
06:45drafts and when i look at the draft picks that they've had the guys that are there clearly we've
06:50all seen the success from sar to to keishon george as a 24th pick um a guy like bub carrington
06:57you know
06:5814 playing leading his rookie class in minutes a guy like alex sar who's the second pick in the draft
07:04who looks more like the first pick in the draft when you consider um what those guys did production
07:10wise in his draft class so i'm going to lean on the wizards to make the the right pick i'm
07:17just happy
07:18that they have this pool of guys to pull from with the number one pick this year because
07:24based off of what they have done so far and the development of these guys and the fit for these
07:30guys you have to think with a deep pool uh now with their disposal and the number one pick option
07:36they're going to make the right pick and so for me um i'm just excited to be a part of
07:41it and just
07:42wait to see which way the wizards lean because either way they go i don't think they can miss
07:47i think i think you're right what do you tony what do you think about their ability to compete
07:54this coming season you know reports are saying they redid a deal with trey so he's back presumably
07:59we we don't know with anthony davis but you know he's under contract he's an employee of the team
08:05and then you add a number one pick with all the young talent they had do you think next year
08:12looks
08:12way different than the last few i think next year looks way different from this standpoint um
08:19first of all the aforementioned players are just named the guys that they just drafted over the last
08:26couple years have developed not just on time most of them are ahead of schedule you look at a guy
08:31like
08:32will riley he's ahead of schedule a queshawn george is ahead of schedule for where he was projected to
08:37be when he was drafted uh the same can be said to for above carrington almost to a certain degree
08:43when you look at his ability to now play the backup point guard position and and be a uh a
08:49consistent
08:50backup point as well as play the two guard position a guy like trey young said a lot of you
08:56know open a
08:56lot of people's eyes with his ability to shoot the basketball and finish uh you know around the rim
09:02and not just be a one-dimensional shooter so when you think about the development of these guys now
09:09with a healthy trey young in the mix who again is you know 25 and 10 um and the ability
09:16to shoot
09:16from long range as good as anybody outside of steph curry in the league you have a hopefully a healthy
09:22anthony davis regardless of the situation he's going to have value he if he comes in healthy you pair him
09:29alongside alex sar and this is before you bring in the number one pick so i think when you look
09:36at
09:36this team it's hard not to say just on paper how can it not look different when you consider the
09:43development of the younger players who are now seem to be blooming at the right time and if you got
09:48these two vets in davis and trey young along with the number one pick whoever that is when you consider
09:56the depth that the wizards could have um you know with guys like champagne coming off the bench you
10:02know along with some of the others who were contributing last year yeah i think this team
10:07looks drastically different next year and my expectations are much higher man i just it'd be
10:14fun to have playoff level hoops again you know what i mean and it seems i can't wait it seems

10:23whether it's next year or down the road and they're just acquiring all these assets like
10:28it seems like that's the track we're on mass i'm i'm so encouraged by the wiz right now
10:34and i cannot wait for tuesday night where are you going to be what's your setup for tuesday
10:39well i'll be part of uh what's going down tuesday night we'll be obviously um doing some things and
10:46and uh you know from monumental we will be streaming uh some shows we'll have some draft shows and and
10:52talk about these things and and wait to see how it all kind of plays out um i do know
10:58for a fact
10:59that on the uh the 23rd we'll be doing a live stream uh from about 7 p.m and and
11:05you know we'll
11:05you know we'll know a little bit more then but thursday we'll also uh have a press conference from
11:11the war um that'll also i think be broadcast and then july 1st uh we're going to have our recap

11:19um basically talking about who we drafted and and and what our expectations are based off of that so
11:25we got some things coming up on monumental sports um you know i like i said i'm this is a
11:30great time
11:31i think for the organization for the fans for the dc area and and as you said it right there

11:38you know playoff basketball in my opinion uh should be back in dc next year and and and you know
11:46not
11:47just a first round thing you know my expectations are high if these guys are healthy if the team
11:52stays you know as presently constructed yes you know playoffs i you know that's you know for me
11:59that's the floor for for this team so um i think with the vets in the mix of young players
12:04particularly
12:04in the east you know everybody healthy you know as you as you need it to be for any team
12:09uh the
12:10wizards will be in the playoff next year all right hell yeah tony and tony i i believe a certain
12:19midday radio program that's on from 10 to 2 is trying to broadcast from that event you'll be at
12:24next thursday from 10 to 2 so there you go i i that sources can't confirm anything on that
