00:00We'll tell you about it at 245.
00:02Right now, 800-636-1067.
00:06The foosball gentlemen play a preseason game.
00:10A Larry Michaels Super Bowl against the Detroit Lions tomorrow.
00:15Thanks for laughing at that, Tom.
00:17It's the dress rehearsal.
00:18Looks like a lot of starters, maybe all of them, as many are healthy,
00:22are going to play.
00:22What do you want to see?
00:24You guys gave your list.
00:25I want you guys on the phones as well at 800-636-1067.
00:29You touched on this one, Daris.
00:31I haven't been to practice.
00:33Most people haven't.
00:34I want to see Daniels.
00:35I want to see the mastery.
00:37I want to see this second nature, instinctive comfort at this point
00:42in an NFL game.
00:43One of the things that is so fun and awesome to watch
00:48is how cool a customer he is.
00:51You guys have seen the quarterback, even guys with some experience,
00:54with those uncertain happy feet, with the I'm going to get destroyed,
01:00I don't look right, whether it's Patrick Ramsey or Carson Wentz
01:03and everyone in between.
01:05Yeah, there's some guys that were a little too comfortable,
01:08be there Rex Grossman or Taylor Heineke or whatever,
01:10but there's just a grace and an ease that Daniels knows what he's doing,
01:15he knows what you're doing, he's going to laugh about it after the play,
01:18and he's going to be a killer during the play, and he's got it.
01:21You have an answer, he's got an even better answer.
01:24I want to see that, even if we're not running all the advanced stuff,
01:27even if we're not countering the counter to the counter to the counter,
01:31even if it's just firing off some basic things, he's under center.
01:34Most of us haven't gotten a look at it, right?
01:36The select few of folks that have been able to go to practice,
01:39folks in the media that have been out there have seen it.
01:41The regular rank and file, the peons like myself,
01:44I've not seen him under center,
01:46other than a handful of plays here and there throughout the last couple of years.
01:51I'm interested in that.
01:52I'd like to see what it looks like.
01:53I want to see him just doing Daniels things just so I can bathe in the waters of Lake Minnetonka,
01:59just sort of feel comfortable about that.
02:00That's number one.
02:01Number two, this is probably my biggest one.
02:05The reports about this offensive line,
02:10the narrative about the offensive line,
02:12everybody that's got a ranking has a big number next to that name.
02:15Not a high ranking, but a big number, a 29, a 30, a 32, a 31, a 27.
02:22It ain't good right now.
02:23The vibe isn't good.
02:24Week one against the lowly Miami Dolphins,
02:28you didn't see a lot that inspired confidence.
02:30Mariotta gets injured.
02:32You don't really have a great push up front.
02:35I want to see the first group, whoever's there, against Detroit's ones,
02:40ever trying to put food on the table, I want to see a push.
02:43I want to see a push in the run game most specifically.
02:48That's what I'm looking for because the interior running,
02:50even in that joint practice against Miami, it was, yeah, they couldn't do that,
02:53but everything else was fun.
02:54You're going to have to do that at some point.
02:56To set up some of the things they want to set up,
02:58I want to see an interior run push.
03:00I want to know, is Chris Paul winning?
03:02Is Julian Goodgrief winning?
03:04Is Sam Cosby winning?
03:06I like Sam Cosby.
03:07I think he will.
03:07But you know what I mean?
03:08How's Connerly doing?
03:09I want to see the push up front.
03:12Those are the first three things.
03:13First two things, rather.
03:15Thing number three is, again, this isn't going to be the full Durante Jones.
03:19He's not going full Durante.
03:21And he should.
03:22I don't want anybody to know.
03:23I want week to week people to be like,
03:25what the hell are they going to do?
03:26That's what I want.
03:27But what you do get in the preseason, to some degree,
03:31is your guy versus my guy.
03:33Because everybody's kind of curious and wants to see that,
03:35to a degree, right?
03:36You're not going to expose Jared Goff to a million hits,
03:38or the same thing you wouldn't think with Jaden Daniels.
03:39But there's going to be a chance for this revamped and new pass rush,
03:44which was anemic at times last year.
03:48You're going to get, presumably,
03:51Caleb on Chason, or Ndafe Owe, or Charles Amenahu,
03:54or a Blitz, maybe not Blitz and Stiles and Chennault.
03:58But you know what I mean?
03:58You're going to see some of these guys
04:00that are going to rush the passer for you
04:03get a chance to be one-on-one.
04:05And I don't expect you to show the entire toolkit,
04:07but I want to see some of that explosion.
04:10I want to see some of that get off.
04:11I want to see some of that.
04:13You could see during a game how this early,
04:16you know, Ryan Kerrigan,
04:17think of that stiff arm into the throat of a right tackle
04:20is going to lead to either a power move and a rip,
04:22or a counter, or that Dwight Frinney spin, or something.
04:25I'll be spotlighting that when they're on defense.
04:27Yeah, so just off a couple of those.
04:30So I'm really interested in the run game.
04:32You mentioned that one with the interior O-line.
04:34I'm actually pretty confident in Brandon Coleman.
04:36He's not Laramie Tunsil.
04:38That's a good player.
04:39But going from a top-five player to a league average player,
04:42it's a massive dip.
04:43But I think you can make the argument
04:45going across their offensive line
04:47that you could get below league average play
04:49at potentially three of the positions.
04:52And so if that's the case,
04:53and I'm getting league average at left tackle,
04:55I'm not as worried about there.
04:56It does change things,
04:57but we can get into that another time.
04:59For left guard, obviously Chris Paul stepping in there.
05:03It sounded like Brandon Coleman might have won that job,
05:05which I still don't fully understand
05:07their approach last season,
05:08where they just moved off of Brandon Coleman so quick.
05:11I understand the injuries.
05:12I understand there were some growing pains
05:13and all that stuff.
05:14But I think Brandon Coleman can play.
05:16I think you'll see that again at left tackle.
05:17But that leaves Chris Paul at left guard again.
05:19You've got center problems.
05:21Even if Nick Allegretti is the starter there,
05:23I still don't feel great about that position.
05:25I think you can just read all of the rankings
05:28across national publications.
05:30Even if they assume Nick Allegretti,
05:32they're not even talking about Julian Gajones.
05:34They don't care that Nick Allegretti is the starting center.
05:36They still don't like it.
05:37Cosby, I think, is going to be good.
05:38But then Connerly is a question.
05:40But they have not been that impressive running the football.
05:43And I think that is a major part of their offense.
05:45So if you're going to struggle running the football,
05:48we're right back to where we were last year,
05:50where it's like, oh, Jaden has to play Superman again.
05:52Now it's going to be a different look of Superman.
05:54But if they can't run the football,
05:56that changes the play-action game.
05:58That changes everything they're trying to accomplish
06:00by being under center.
06:01So that is going to be a major part of the offense.
06:04And if they can't get push in a preseason game
06:06where you're not playing 70 plays,
06:08you're playing 12, maybe less,
06:11then that's concerning.
06:13And so I'd like to see some holes opened up,
06:15regardless of who's running behind them,
06:17if it's Bill, if it's somebody else,
06:18if he's a little dinged up from practice yesterday, whatever.
06:21I don't really care who the running back is.
06:23Just when I watch it, although there's a hole there,
06:25at least whoever's going to run the football,
06:27I can trust is going to be able to have some space to run.
06:30So no, that's a really good point
06:31and something to watch against the Lions tomorrow.
06:34800-636-1067.
06:36Let's start.
06:37Carlos, Serena Park,
06:38what do you want to see tomorrow in the game?
06:40I just want to see a team that has a sense of urgency
06:44compared to what we saw last season.
06:46If you remember last season,
06:48they were resting starters.
06:50They were having a good training camp,
06:52but it didn't show on the field.
06:53I want to see that they've been raving it.
06:55They've been raving about it at this training camp.
06:57The players have been on fire.
06:59The players have been showing the sense of urgency.
07:01Because guess what?
07:03They're going up against two divisional opponents,
07:05week one and week two.
07:06I dared them to start 0-2 these first two weeks
07:10because last season was not good enough for training camp.
07:13Go ahead, play these preseason games.
07:16Give it all you got.
07:17That's what I want to see.
07:17Thanks for taking my call, guys.
07:18Appreciate you, buddy.
07:19That's my word.
07:21The U word.
07:22Urgency.
07:23Yeah.
07:23I just want it.
07:24I haven't felt it.
07:25Now, again, you could speak better to it,
07:28you and Grant and a million of the other guys
07:29that have been out there every day,
07:32and I'm kind of going off of secondhand type things.
07:35Some people have graded it,
07:36oh, yeah, it's light and day from last year.
07:39Others have said, yeah, it's more,
07:40but it's still not a lot, if that makes any sense.
07:43That urgency, I need to feel it.
07:45I want to feel it.
07:46It's hard to explain, but you know it when you see it.
07:48Well, and I think that's why this is a perfect opponent.
07:50You never have to question urgency under Dan Campbell.
07:53They want to hit you coming off the bus.
07:56They're ready to roll.
07:57So if you don't bring that same sort of urgency,
07:59then that's going to be a problem,
08:00and you might have more dudes on the injured list, right?
08:02Like, you have to play football at full speed,
08:04and the Detroit Lions are always going to do that,
08:07so that forces you to play at full speed, too.
08:08Indeed, I do.
08:09I'm with you.
08:09I think it's why this is such a good dress rehearsal opponent.
08:12But it's not just, it's like last year,
08:14I don't know how to explain it,
08:15but you guys all remember this, right?
08:16There was this, now we felt this way as fans.
08:18I mean, I was kind of raising my hand going,
08:20I'm a little bit nervous about this.
08:21I didn't see four and 12 in meaningful games,
08:24winning a fifth with Josh Johnson
08:25when the Eagles rested everybody.
08:27I didn't think it was going to be that bad,
08:28but I didn't see a same repeat just because, right?
08:32But I think a lot of people did,
08:33and there wasn't much urgency.
08:35There was a,
08:38Daniels is so good,
08:39we don't have to throw a pass in August.
08:41He's so good, nothing else matters.
08:43And again, yeah, I know he was hurt.
08:44I know everybody, a bunch of people were hurt,
08:46but a bunch of guys weren't.
08:47Frankie Louville wasn't hurt,
08:48and he disappeared last year.
08:50Yeah.
08:50There's a lot of guys that were here
08:52that are still being counted upon
08:54who did diddly or squat.
08:56Javon Kinlaw played a million snaps,
08:58didn't have a sack.
08:58I understand that's not his role,
08:59is to have 10,
09:00he didn't have one.
09:01Yet he had as many tackles for loss
09:03as like a backup linebacker, right?
09:06Where was Deron Payne last year?
09:07There's a million guys that were here
09:09that are being counted upon then
09:10or being counted upon now
09:12that had nothing to do with injury.
09:13It's just, where was my performance?
09:16So it felt like we're so good,
09:18it's just going to happen for us.
09:19And I think last year was that punch in the mouth
09:21where they had to do that thing
09:23where they got doubled over
09:24and they're bleeding
09:24and they touched their mouth.
09:25Now they go,
09:26and the other,
09:27now what are you going to do about it?
09:28You got punched.
09:29What's the response?
09:30And again,
09:31it doesn't mean you go full
09:33Spurrier Osaka Japan
09:34on the Detroit Lions tomorrow,
09:35but I just want to feel like they get
09:39how unacceptable last year was
09:41instead of just going,
09:42ah, you know,
09:43just a fluke thing, man.
09:44A couple injuries
09:45and Jaden was hurt.
09:46Otherwise, we'll be fine.
09:47I just, I want to feel that
09:48I haven't yet.
09:49I'd love to see that tomorrow.
09:50I love that one.
09:51Dez and Waldorf,
09:52what do you want to see tomorrow?
09:53What's up, man?
09:54What I want to see is,
09:55I want to see Brandon Coleman
09:57shut everybody up
09:58because everybody acting like
09:59Ningo to the NFC Championship game
10:00when playing his left tackle.
10:01We got Lurman Tussle
10:02because he was available,
10:03not because Brandon Coleman
10:04was a problem.
10:05But my biggest thing is with y'all
10:07and all the race kids media
10:08that's been going on
10:09because basically,
10:11why has everybody been complaining
10:12about cornerback,
10:13but they, at the same breath,
10:15remind themselves that the D-line
10:17was terrible last year.
10:18Our best player was Vaughn Miller
10:19and our best safety was Jeremy Reeves.
10:21If that's the situation,
10:22it don't matter.
10:22We got Devin Whittlespoon.
10:24Your corner's going to be bad.
10:25They can't do with everything.
10:27Like, if you got the worst D-line
10:28and the worst safety group,
10:30what are we going to do?
10:31You know what I'm saying?
10:32Yeah, be bad everywhere, Dez,
10:33I think is the answer.
10:34But I don't know how that's my fault,
10:36but I appreciate the phone call.
10:37Thanks for listening.
10:37The thing is,
10:39they're going to play different coverages,
10:41different styles of defense this year,
10:43but I still am interested.
10:44Can Mikey Sammer still play inside?
10:47Can he play outside?
10:48I like Amik Robertson,
10:50but he's undersized, right?
10:52He's been someone that has had good moments
10:54throughout his career,
10:55but if you look at the numbers for last year,
10:57it was not great.
10:58Rasul Douglas has stood out,
10:59but he was a free agent,
11:00someone that you just picked up off the street
11:02not that long ago.
11:03So, I like a lot of what they're working with back there.
11:07Doesn't really matter for me if I like him.
11:09I need them to be able to cover.
11:10So, there are questions.
11:11I don't know how you can look at that secondary
11:13and say there aren't.
11:14I like the Nick Cross addition.
11:15I think he's going to have a massive impact,
11:17but it looks like Jeremy Reeves could be your starting
11:20second safety.
11:22Do you feel great about that?
11:23Like, I like Revo.
11:24I love what he can do in special teams.
11:26I like him filling in stints.
11:28There's also a reason he hasn't been a starter
11:30throughout his career on the defensive side of the football.
11:32Even though at short moments he might look fine,
11:35does it look fine for all 65-70 plays on defense?
11:38So, there are questions all throughout the secondary.
11:40They can shut us all up by playing well,
11:42and in that case we'll say,
11:44great, we'll tip the cap.
11:45But looking at it right now, objectively,
11:47you're like, I don't feel great about it.
11:49Yeah, especially because Amos is constantly banged up,
11:52and he's through a very short career,
11:54hasn't played a ton just yet.
11:56That's a legit concern.
11:57But, I mean, his point in general,
11:59again, I'm not sure what part of that was our fault.
12:02I missed that.
12:02But if the point is, yes, I understand it's going to be tougher
12:05to cover, for sure.
12:06But at the same time, the plan was Marshawn Lattimore,
12:11Mikey Sandler still, not a great plan.
12:14So, yeah, those guys weren't good either.
12:15I think all of it can be true.
12:17But it's a good convo.
12:18Another milestone was set against DC Sports.
12:21That's next.
12:21Ben Standing joins us at 3.
12:23We have a lot of stuff.
