00:00:00Now, in this time, we shall pass.
00:00:30In this time, we shall pass.
00:01:00European football expert, Julien Laurent, are with us.
00:01:03First, Bayern Munich against Real Madrid.
00:01:05Last week, these two produced a first leg to remember.
00:01:11These two clubs have won the competition 21 times between them.
00:01:16So, here we go.
00:01:19Moyer came to meet him brilliantly.
00:01:21This isn't a situation, but I don't want to see.
00:01:27Harry Kane.
00:01:30Now he's got men over.
00:01:31Diaz.
00:01:32Devastating from Bayern.
00:01:36Harry Kane doubles Bayern's advantage.
00:01:41Vinicius Junior.
00:01:43Another opportunity.
00:01:46Those begging.
00:01:47This time, Real Madrid do have a reply.
00:01:51And it is the Bundesliga champions who take the advantage.
00:01:58So, Bayern return from Spain with a slender one-goal lead.
00:02:02Could Real Madrid turn the tie around in Munich?
00:02:04Commentary from Steve Bauer.
00:02:07These two heavyweights meet again for a record 30th time.
00:02:11And Real know they have to dig deep.
00:02:14As Bayern lead after a first leg away win for the 23rd time.
00:02:19And only once have they previously been eliminated.
00:02:21And Vincent Kompany names exactly the same 11 that started that victory in the Bernabeu.
00:02:27Harry Kane has scored 15 in his last 14 Champions League games.
00:02:32Another goal tonight takes him to 50 for the season.
00:02:36Jude Bellingham's return is one of three Real changes from the first leg.
00:02:40Along with Militao and Mendy.
00:02:43Chiuameni is suspended.
00:02:45The Champions League top scorer, Kylian Mbappe, has 14 goals in just 10 games so far.
00:02:54Bayern Gunners underway.
00:02:56What an atmosphere.
00:02:58The hottest ticket in town.
00:03:0221 times they've won it between them.
00:03:05Only one can keep that dream alive tonight.
00:03:08For this particular season.
00:03:12Small advantage Bayern.
00:03:15But this is the Champions League.
00:03:18And this is Real Madrid.
00:03:28That's misplaced by Neuer.
00:03:30Goodness me.
00:03:33What a start after 36 seconds.
00:03:37Arda Gula.
00:03:38Accepts the gift.
00:03:40And Real Madrid immediately have the aggregate leveller.
00:03:47And the Turkey International celebrates an extraordinary opening to this one.
00:03:56Simple back pass.
00:03:59And Neuer just hit it straight to Gula who you have to say finished it superbly on his left foot.
00:04:07It curled in fantastically, actually.
00:04:15Kimmich.
00:04:22Come here to Luis Diaz though.
00:04:25Again up against his former Liverpool teammate then Alexander-Arnold who eventually got the block.
00:04:30First corner of the evening is Bayern Munich.
00:04:38Kimmich.
00:04:42Kimmich.
00:04:43Kimmich's corner.
00:04:44Kimmich's corner.
00:04:44It was a good one all the way in.
00:04:46Slightest touch.
00:04:48what a response from Bayern Pavlovich
00:04:54all about the delivery from Kimmich
00:04:56just right on the goal line
00:04:59Alexander Pavlovich
00:05:00with his very first Champions League goal
00:05:03and it comes in this quarterfinal
00:05:06of this magnitude
00:05:08against Real Madrid
00:05:15Alisa against Mbappe
00:05:17Kimmich time to turn
00:05:19and Loonin with the save
00:05:27strong right hand
00:05:32Benicio's junior
00:05:36Raheem Diaz
00:05:39caught by Lima
00:05:40Real Madrid free kick
00:05:44there's not much contact at all there
00:05:50you would certainly imagine this
00:05:52to be Trent Alexander-Arnold territory
00:05:56Arda Gula is the other potential contender
00:06:00it is Gula
00:06:01oh he's done it
00:06:05he's got two
00:06:06and Real Madrid have two
00:06:08and it's 3-3 on aggregate
00:06:14and Neuer
00:06:15got a cross
00:06:17got a hand to it
00:06:21couldn't keep it out
00:06:23maybe like most
00:06:24he was expecting the right foot
00:06:26of Alexander-Arnold
00:06:28it wasn't right in the corner
00:06:33and Arda Gula
00:06:36has made it 2-1 on the night
00:06:383-3 on aggregate
00:06:46for Makano
00:06:49into Kane
00:06:51Harry Kane
00:06:57half century for the season
00:07:02his 50th goal of this incredible campaign
00:07:08restores Bayern's aggregate advantage again
00:07:12and this quarter-final tie
00:07:15just keeps on giving
00:07:22Kane scores
00:07:24in his fifth Champions League game in a row
00:07:29what a quarter-final
00:07:31it's one you never want to end
00:07:33and it's now
00:07:35Bayern 4
00:07:37Real Madrid 3
00:07:46Brahim Diaz
00:07:48that's useful
00:07:49up on Makano
00:07:50is going to get there
00:07:51Vinicius Junior
00:07:52off the crossbar
00:07:58no he was beaten
00:08:00just
00:08:01off the woodwork
00:08:08Stanisic
00:08:11Gnabry
00:08:12touch on
00:08:14Militao
00:08:14the opportunity to clear
00:08:22Vinicius Junior
00:08:23this time up against
00:08:24Jonathan Tarr
00:08:25he's all alone
00:08:26but he's found Mbappe
00:08:30oh this is wonderful
00:08:38Stanisic
00:08:38still down at the other end
00:08:413-2
00:08:42Real Madrid on the night
00:08:434-4
00:08:44on aggregate
00:08:48what a remarkable
00:08:49first half
00:08:51this is what Bayern
00:08:52are upset about
00:08:53there was a foul there
00:08:54by Rudiger
00:08:55the referee had a very good view
00:08:58and on went Real Madrid
00:09:01and just watch the burst
00:09:02here from Mbappe
00:09:03no one went with him
00:09:06and he was as clinical
00:09:08as ever
00:09:09with his 15th goal
00:09:11of this Champions League season
00:09:14two of them now
00:09:15two of them now against Bayern
00:09:19and they are
00:09:20level overall
00:09:22yet again
00:09:26well
00:09:26Vincent Kompany has been shown
00:09:28the yellow card
00:09:29and should Bayern progress
00:09:30he won't be in the dugout
00:09:33for the first leg
00:09:34of the semi-final
00:09:42Davies on the overlap
00:09:43straight away
00:09:45fullback looking for Kane
00:09:46it's come to Luis Diaz
00:09:49couldn't force it through
00:09:51a host of bodies
00:10:03Alexander-Arnold
00:10:05fits the cross
00:10:07Neuer keeps it out
00:10:09and this is a top-class delivery
00:10:12from Trent Alexander-Arnold
00:10:15Mbappe denied
00:10:22Davies thought about the cross
00:10:24back to Musiala
00:10:27Nelise
00:10:30oh good try
00:10:34you sense that was always
00:10:36his objective
00:10:38Lunin
00:10:39needed to make absolutely
00:10:41sure
00:10:47Lima
00:10:50Ludicus foul
00:10:51Bayern's free kick
00:11:01it's a wicked one
00:11:02and the headers wide
00:11:04from Upper Meccano
00:11:06if he stares that goal
00:11:08it's every chance
00:11:09of restoring Bayern's
00:11:12overall lead
00:11:18he's got it back
00:11:19from Kane's ball
00:11:23what's the room
00:11:24for the shot
00:11:25Alise
00:11:27wasn't quite
00:11:28dipping enough
00:11:30approaching the stage
00:11:31where something special
00:11:32from one of so many
00:11:34of these highly talented
00:11:36elite players
00:11:37could settle it
00:11:41Musiala driving forward
00:11:43Kamavinga knows
00:11:44what's coming next
00:11:46pick one for the
00:11:47proverbial team
00:11:48that
00:11:51inside the last
00:11:52five minutes
00:11:53of the 90
00:11:56foul by Kamavinga
00:11:57who's also
00:11:59as the
00:11:59crowder
00:12:00reminding the
00:12:00referee
00:12:01on a yellow
00:12:05and he's reaching
00:12:06and the substitute
00:12:09has a second
00:12:10yellow
00:12:10and he's sent off
00:12:13and Real Madrid
00:12:14are down to
00:12:15ten men
00:12:23Pavlovich
00:12:26Diaz
00:12:27gets it back
00:12:30from Musiala
00:12:31oh he's done it
00:12:34Luis Diaz
00:12:36with just over
00:12:3890 seconds
00:12:39of the 90
00:12:40minutes remaining
00:12:42might just
00:12:43have sent
00:12:45Bayern
00:12:46into the
00:12:46semi-finals
00:12:47and the way
00:12:49these two ties
00:12:50have been
00:12:51played out
00:12:52late drama
00:12:54had to be
00:12:55in the script
00:12:58it's really
00:12:59clever play
00:13:00Kane
00:13:04will they go to
00:13:05the corner
00:13:05this time
00:13:06no
00:13:06Alise
00:13:08wants to
00:13:08seal it
00:13:09oh
00:13:10and what
00:13:12a way
00:13:12to do
00:13:13so
00:13:16Michael
00:13:17Alise
00:13:17with the
00:13:18final act
00:13:19of a
00:13:21script
00:13:21that has
00:13:22been
00:13:22truly
00:13:23classical
00:13:27Bayern
00:13:27Munich
00:13:28heading to
00:13:29their first
00:13:30semi-final
00:13:31in six
00:13:32years
00:13:32and the
00:13:33last time
00:13:34they went
00:13:34there
00:13:34they lifted
00:13:36the trophy
00:13:41temperatures
00:13:42rising right
00:13:43at the end
00:13:43as well
00:13:44and Ardo
00:13:45Gula
00:13:46has been
00:13:46shown the
00:13:47red card
00:13:47by the
00:13:47referee
00:13:48there
00:13:48after the
00:13:49final whistle
00:13:49as well
00:13:51but it
00:13:52is
00:13:52the
00:13:52Bundesliga
00:13:53champions
00:13:54and six
00:13:55times
00:13:56European
00:13:56champions
00:13:58who
00:13:59progressed
00:13:59to the
00:13:59final
00:14:00four
00:14:01the way
00:14:02we started
00:14:02the game
00:14:02was the
00:14:03perfect start
00:14:04for Real
00:14:04Madrid
00:14:04it was the
00:14:05worst
00:14:05possible start
00:14:06for us
00:14:06but it
00:14:07didn't feel
00:14:08like
00:14:10it changed
00:14:11too much
00:14:12we continued
00:14:12and then
00:14:13they scored
00:14:13again
00:14:13and we
00:14:14continued
00:14:14and they
00:14:14scored
00:14:15again
00:14:15and we
00:14:15continued
00:14:16and in
00:14:17the end
00:14:17I think
00:14:18the team
00:14:19has proven
00:14:19many times
00:14:20this season
00:14:22that they
00:14:23have the
00:14:23character
00:14:23and the
00:14:23mentality
00:14:24whenever
00:14:24you beat
00:14:25a team
00:14:25like Real
00:14:26Madrid
00:14:27especially
00:14:27in the
00:14:28late stages
00:14:28of the
00:14:29Champions League
00:14:29of course
00:14:29it will
00:14:30give you
00:14:30confidence
00:14:31but we
00:14:32spoke about
00:14:32it all
00:14:33year
00:14:33about getting
00:14:33to this
00:14:34stage
00:14:34being in
00:14:34all the
00:14:34competitions
00:14:35and this
00:14:36is the
00:14:36time to
00:14:36really push
00:14:37on
00:14:37we feel
00:14:37like we
00:14:38can beat
00:14:38anyone
00:14:38when we're
00:14:39at our
00:14:39highest
00:14:39level
00:14:41and again
00:14:41we're going
00:14:42to need
00:14:42that in
00:14:42the next
00:14:43round
00:14:43because PSG
00:14:44are one
00:14:44of the
00:14:44best teams
00:14:44in Europe
00:14:45for sure
00:14:45so it's
00:14:46time to
00:14:47enjoy this
00:14:47we have
00:14:48a chance
00:14:48to win
00:14:48the league
00:14:49on the
00:14:49weekend
00:14:49hopefully
00:14:50we can
00:14:50manage
00:14:50that
00:14:51and then
00:14:52we have
00:14:52a big
00:14:52semi-final
00:14:52in the
00:14:53cup
00:14:53so plenty
00:14:54of games
00:14:54plenty of
00:14:55big games
00:14:55big moments
00:14:56left in the
00:14:56season
00:14:56and we need
00:14:57to be ready
00:14:57for that
00:14:59brilliant
00:14:59brilliant
00:15:00game of
00:15:00football
00:15:01that's why
00:15:01we watch
00:15:01football
00:15:02isn't it
00:15:02yeah
00:15:03absolutely
00:15:03two great
00:15:04teams
00:15:04very different
00:15:05styles as
00:15:05well in the
00:15:06way that
00:15:06Bayern can
00:15:07play
00:15:07build their
00:15:08attack
00:15:08that firepower
00:15:09offensively
00:15:10that they
00:15:10have
00:15:10and Real
00:15:11Madrid a bit
00:15:11more in
00:15:11transition
00:15:12trying to be
00:15:13a bit more
00:15:13well disciplined
00:15:14compared to
00:15:15the first leg
00:15:15but still
00:15:16super open
00:15:17game
00:15:17super enjoying
00:15:18to watch
00:15:19I mean
00:15:19maybe two
00:15:20different styles
00:15:21but they went
00:15:22toe-to-toe
00:15:23for two legs
00:15:24basically
00:15:24yeah they did
00:15:25I think a lot
00:15:26of people thought
00:15:27the game would be
00:15:28over coming to
00:15:29the Allianz
00:15:30and thinking that
00:15:31they'll run over
00:15:32the top of
00:15:32Real Madrid
00:15:33but Real Madrid
00:15:34the intent from
00:15:34the first whistle
00:15:35was to go after
00:15:36Bayern Munich
00:15:36and I think it
00:15:37surprised them a
00:15:38little bit
00:15:38I know Vincent
00:15:39Kompany talks about
00:15:39the resilience of
00:15:40the team
00:15:41and they needed
00:15:42that immensely
00:15:42tonight
00:15:43but it was
00:15:43what an advert
00:15:44for football
00:15:45that is
00:15:45yeah
00:15:46you actually
00:15:47you have to
00:15:48appreciate that
00:15:49neither of them
00:15:49wanted to
00:15:50shut up shop
00:15:51don't you
00:15:52well it's not
00:15:53saying they
00:15:53didn't want to
00:15:56couldn't
00:15:57I think in some
00:15:57ways that's fair
00:15:58when you're a
00:15:58Bayern Munich side
00:15:59they've been
00:15:59dominant as they
00:16:00have been
00:16:00but then you've
00:16:01got Vinicius
00:16:01Juniors
00:16:02Mbappes
00:16:02and others
00:16:02coming at you
00:16:03it's very hard
00:16:04to be defensively
00:16:05good and really
00:16:06good in attack
00:16:06as well
00:16:06but as you said
00:16:07at the very start
00:16:08it's a brilliant
00:16:08advert for football
00:16:09that's one of the
00:16:10prime games in
00:16:11European football
00:16:12Bayern's front
00:16:12three
00:16:13fantastic
00:16:14I know you're
00:16:15going to focus
00:16:15on the two
00:16:16wider players
00:16:17in particular
00:16:18but the way
00:16:19that all three
00:16:19of them dovetail
00:16:20but Diaz and
00:16:21Elisa in particular
00:16:22yeah well Harry
00:16:23Kane's brilliant
00:16:23at dropping into
00:16:24that false nine
00:16:25position
00:16:25coming into
00:16:26ten
00:16:26sometimes even
00:16:27deeper into
00:16:28midfield
00:16:28and you're
00:16:29asking your
00:16:29two wide
00:16:30players then
00:16:30to influence
00:16:31the games
00:16:32and that is
00:16:33exactly what
00:16:33they do
00:16:34this was the
00:16:35second half
00:16:36more than
00:16:36anything
00:16:37Alphonso
00:16:37Davis
00:16:38who come on
00:16:38as a sub
00:16:39he helps
00:16:39Diaz
00:16:40because it
00:16:40causes a
00:16:41problem down
00:16:41this right
00:16:42hand side
00:16:42and as the
00:16:43ball comes
00:16:43into him
00:16:43here
00:16:44he probably
00:16:44just takes
00:16:45a little bit
00:16:45too long
00:16:46he could have
00:16:46scored a couple
00:16:47more goals
00:16:48tonight
00:16:48Luis Diaz
00:16:50but Elisa
00:16:51I was just
00:16:52waxing lyrical
00:16:53about his
00:16:53performance
00:16:53he's so
00:16:54you know what
00:16:56he's going to
00:16:56do
00:16:56he wants to
00:16:57come inside
00:16:58on his left
00:16:58foot
00:16:59he wants to
00:16:59get that
00:17:00bending ball
00:17:01into the top
00:17:01corner
00:17:02and you think
00:17:03I know what
00:17:03you're trying
00:17:04to do
00:17:04try and stop
00:17:05it
00:17:05he's got that
00:17:06drop of the
00:17:07shoulder
00:17:07that ability
00:17:08just to get
00:17:08it round
00:17:09then a couple
00:17:10of efforts
00:17:10there which
00:17:11are just
00:17:11phenomenal
00:17:11and then you
00:17:12get that
00:17:13moment of
00:17:13brilliant
00:17:13from Luis
00:17:14Diaz
00:17:15you see
00:17:15the ball
00:17:16out here
00:17:16Moussiala
00:17:17who's just
00:17:17come on as
00:17:17a substitute
00:17:18he links
00:17:19up with
00:17:19a lovely
00:17:20little
00:17:20backheel
00:17:21interplay
00:17:21and they
00:17:22just step
00:17:22off him
00:17:22for half
00:17:23a yard
00:17:23it takes
00:17:23the slightest
00:17:24of deflections
00:17:25from Militao
00:17:26and then this
00:17:27one just
00:17:28ends the
00:17:28game
00:17:28Bellingham
00:17:29just rides
00:17:29that tackle
00:17:30Diaz
00:17:30little
00:17:31nonchalant
00:17:31flick inside
00:17:32to Harry
00:17:32Kane
00:17:33and we
00:17:33talked about
00:17:33that 10
00:17:34position
00:17:34and then
00:17:35Elisa
00:17:35I'm thinking
00:17:36just see the
00:17:36game out
00:17:37no chance
00:17:38he wants to
00:17:38get in a
00:17:391v1 situation
00:17:40half a yard
00:17:41and that finish
00:17:42is just
00:17:43phenomenal
00:17:44them two
00:17:45wide players
00:17:45very very
00:17:46difficult to
00:17:47defend against
00:17:48and you
00:17:48could see
00:17:49the way
00:17:49that Kane
00:17:50laid that
00:17:51off to
00:17:52Elisa
00:17:53and that
00:17:53is how
00:17:54they are
00:17:54all
00:17:55dovetailing
00:17:56this season
00:17:5792 goals
00:17:58between the
00:17:58three of them
00:17:5946 assists
00:18:00absolutely
00:18:01outrageous
00:18:01and I think
00:18:02to piggyback
00:18:03on what
00:18:03Stegan was
00:18:04saying as
00:18:04well
00:18:04we're talking
00:18:05about
00:18:05Michael
00:18:05Lee
00:18:05as if
00:18:05he's
00:18:06played
00:18:06in the
00:18:06Champions
00:18:06League
00:18:06every
00:18:07season
00:18:07of his
00:18:07career
00:18:08this is his
00:18:09first season
00:18:09at Bayern Munich
00:18:10one of the
00:18:11biggest clubs
00:18:11in all of
00:18:12world football
00:18:12and it looks
00:18:13like it's the
00:18:14easiest thing
00:18:14in the world
00:18:15to him
00:18:15he's playing
00:18:15against
00:18:16Real Madrid
00:18:16for the
00:18:17second time
00:18:17first time
00:18:18was last
00:18:18week
00:18:18it's the
00:18:19quarter finals
00:18:20it's the
00:18:20knockouts
00:18:20and he
00:18:22for me
00:18:22has been a
00:18:23difference
00:18:23between the
00:18:23two sides
00:18:24his development
00:18:25as a footballer
00:18:27as well
00:18:27is also
00:18:28slightly different
00:18:29at international
00:18:30level
00:18:30where he's used
00:18:31in a different
00:18:31role
00:18:31yeah
00:18:32Deschamps uses
00:18:32him as a
00:18:3310
00:18:33very much
00:18:34central
00:18:34compared to
00:18:35on the
00:18:35right hand
00:18:35side
00:18:36and I've
00:18:36got a bit
00:18:36of an issue
00:18:37with adjusting
00:18:37when you're
00:18:38the best
00:18:38in the world
00:18:38in your
00:18:39position
00:18:39at club
00:18:39level
00:18:40what would
00:18:41you change
00:18:41for international
00:18:42level
00:18:42I'm not
00:18:42really sure
00:18:43I get it
00:18:44but Deschamps
00:18:44likes the
00:18:45connection
00:18:45between
00:18:46when you've
00:18:47got as much
00:18:47talent as
00:18:48us in France
00:18:48which you
00:18:49in England
00:18:49can't really
00:18:50understand
00:18:52it's okay
00:18:52one day
00:18:53maybe
00:18:53I would
00:18:54leave him
00:18:55there
00:18:55that's
00:18:55all I
00:18:56meant
00:18:56I would
00:18:56leave him
00:18:56on that
00:18:57right hand
00:18:57side
00:18:57for France
00:18:58as well
00:18:58at the
00:18:58World Cup
00:18:58for example
00:18:59it was a
00:19:00very simple
00:19:00answer
00:19:01you didn't
00:19:01have to do
00:19:02all the
00:19:02gloating
00:19:02I tried to
00:19:03explain to
00:19:03you guys
00:19:04how much
00:19:04talent we
00:19:05have in
00:19:05France
00:19:05we know
00:19:06we know
00:19:07Camavinga
00:19:07can't argue
00:19:08with his
00:19:08red card
00:19:09can he
00:19:09well some
00:19:10would say
00:19:11that he
00:19:11can but
00:19:12with the
00:19:12first one
00:19:13I think
00:19:13he's made
00:19:13a rash
00:19:14decision
00:19:14I want to
00:19:15see him
00:19:15work harder
00:19:16to defend
00:19:16the game
00:19:17is stretched
00:19:17but he came
00:19:17on as a
00:19:18substitute
00:19:18so he
00:19:18should
00:19:18have more
00:19:19energy
00:19:19and in
00:19:19this moment
00:19:20you really
00:19:21need to drag
00:19:21him down
00:19:22I think
00:19:22Madrid have
00:19:22got enough
00:19:23players in
00:19:23and around
00:19:24those areas
00:19:25to be able
00:19:25to force
00:19:26someone to
00:19:26defend
00:19:26properly
00:19:26force the
00:19:27ball out
00:19:27wide
00:19:27to that
00:19:28left hand
00:19:28side
00:19:28I know
00:19:29Diaz was
00:19:29good in
00:19:29the game
00:19:30but it doesn't
00:19:30mean he's
00:19:30going to
00:19:30score from
00:19:3134
00:19:31Do you think it's
00:19:32because it's
00:19:32Musiala though
00:19:33but it's still
00:19:34Musiala going
00:19:34on to his
00:19:35weaker left
00:19:35foot
00:19:37I would have
00:19:37just tried to
00:19:38force him out
00:19:38wide and then
00:19:39this one here
00:19:39this is decision
00:19:40making again
00:19:40the free kick's
00:19:41been given
00:19:42and even though
00:19:42some people
00:19:43will say
00:19:43especially of a
00:19:44Madrid persuasion
00:19:45that this is
00:19:45nothing in
00:19:46particular in
00:19:46terms of him
00:19:47having the
00:19:47ball at his
00:19:48feet
00:19:48why did he
00:19:49need to do
00:19:49it
00:19:49one two
00:19:50three touches
00:19:51picks the
00:19:51ball that
00:19:52throws it
00:19:52to somebody
00:19:52else
00:19:53I think
00:19:53Kimmich has
00:19:54done a very
00:19:54good job
00:19:55for Bayern
00:19:55then
00:19:55sort of
00:19:55highlighting
00:19:56the issue
00:19:56to the
00:19:56referee
00:19:57and as a
00:19:58consequence
00:19:58like my
00:19:58issue with
00:19:59this is
00:19:59he's forced
00:20:00the referee
00:20:00to have to
00:20:00make a
00:20:01decision
00:20:01and if
00:20:02you just
00:20:03step away
00:20:04from the
00:20:04ball
00:20:04the foul
00:20:05is the
00:20:05foul
00:20:05and there's
00:20:05nothing more
00:20:06but instead
00:20:06they go down
00:20:07to 10
00:20:07and all those
00:20:08key moments
00:20:08came afterwards
00:20:09and the
00:20:09referee made
00:20:09the point
00:20:10you've run
00:20:11away with
00:20:11that ball
00:20:11twice
00:20:12that's why
00:20:12you're
00:20:12giving the
00:20:13yellow card
00:20:14in these
00:20:14instances
00:20:14I don't
00:20:15know if
00:20:15you're the
00:20:15same here
00:20:15but did
00:20:16you need
00:20:16to do it
00:20:17I don't
00:20:18think you
00:20:18needed to
00:20:18I think
00:20:19there's also
00:20:19an element
00:20:19where the
00:20:20referee
00:20:20makes the
00:20:21yellow card
00:20:22says you've
00:20:22done it
00:20:22twice
00:20:23but then
00:20:24doesn't
00:20:24realise
00:20:24earlier on
00:20:25he'd just
00:20:26give him
00:20:26a yellow
00:20:26card
00:20:27I wonder
00:20:27whether he
00:20:28might have
00:20:28been a little
00:20:28bit more
00:20:29lenient
00:20:29but however
00:20:30like you say
00:20:30you've made
00:20:32him make a
00:20:32decision
00:20:33Do you think
00:20:33Bayern will be
00:20:34vulnerable
00:20:35in the
00:20:36semi-final
00:20:37yes
00:20:38why
00:20:38defensively
00:20:39they struggle
00:20:40because they're
00:20:41so open
00:20:42and expansive
00:20:42the way that
00:20:43they play
00:20:44they throw
00:20:45players forward
00:20:46at will
00:20:46now the
00:20:47game plan
00:20:48might change
00:20:48in the
00:20:49semi-final
00:20:49against Paris
00:20:50Saint-Germain
00:20:50they might
00:20:51just go
00:20:51do you know
00:20:52what
00:20:52we'll be
00:20:52a little
00:20:52bit more
00:20:53conservative
00:20:53we'll have
00:20:54to be
00:20:54more
00:20:54conservative
00:20:55because we
00:20:55see the
00:20:56power that
00:20:56Paris Saint-Germain
00:20:57have
00:20:58but I like
00:20:59what Vinton
00:21:00company does
00:21:00I think he's
00:21:01clever
00:21:01he's smart
00:21:02in the way
00:21:02that he
00:21:02sets his
00:21:03teams up
00:21:03and I think
00:21:04there will
00:21:04be an
00:21:05element of
00:21:06we'll show
00:21:06more respect
00:21:07to Paris
00:21:07Saint-Germain
00:21:08I think it's
00:21:10going to be
00:21:11tough time
00:21:12whichever way
00:21:12you want to
00:21:13look at it
00:21:13but what I
00:21:13like about
00:21:14Bayern Munich
00:21:14and say
00:21:14some of the
00:21:15other sides
00:21:15left in the
00:21:15competition now
00:21:16is they just
00:21:17want to
00:21:17score goals
00:21:17you know
00:21:18the defensive
00:21:18side of
00:21:19things
00:21:19if a team
00:21:19can concede
00:21:20three and
00:21:20score four
00:21:22you're in
00:21:22for a good
00:21:22chance
00:21:22because you
00:21:23know the
00:21:23game's never
00:21:23going to be
00:21:23over
00:21:24we'll come
00:21:25on to
00:21:25Paris
00:21:25Saint-Germain
00:21:25in a bit
00:21:26hold your
00:21:26horses
00:21:28right next
00:21:28Arsenal have
00:21:29that massive
00:21:30game with
00:21:30Manchester City
00:21:31on Sunday
00:21:32but first
00:21:33they had to
00:21:33finish off
00:21:34sporting
00:21:34after Kai
00:21:35Habert's
00:21:36late goal
00:21:36gave them
00:21:37a 1-0
00:21:37win in
00:21:37Lisbon
00:21:38last week
00:21:38at the
00:21:39Emirates
00:21:39Steve Wilson
00:21:45history suggests
00:21:46that Arsenal

00:22:41here
00:22:41this is
00:22:42Francisco
00:22:42Trincao
00:22:43and he's
00:22:43got the
00:22:44shot away
00:22:44and that
00:22:45has flashed
00:22:46across the
00:22:47face of
00:22:47David
00:22:47Raya
00:22:48off target
00:22:49but just
00:22:50a little
00:22:51warning shot
00:22:52here
00:22:54Trincao
00:22:55does have
00:22:55four Champions
00:22:56League goals
00:22:56this season
00:23:27two minds he wasn't sure whether to go for goal or to try to find Francisco Trincao and in the
00:23:32end
00:23:32it ended up being much ado about nothing but it could have been a very very bad moment for David
00:23:39Raya that's a really good ball Luis Suarez is in behind here Suarez he has Pedro Gonçalves in
00:23:47support he leaves it for Trincao this is Maxi Araujo Arsenal have recovered some semblance of
00:23:54defence but Jenny Catamo hits the post and Maxi Araujo can't keep the ball in play so close to
00:24:03levelling this tie up no one picked him up he's arrived at the back post it's not an easy volley
00:24:10that he's hit across it a little bit and it's just bruised the face of the post
00:24:22so Arsenal with this slender aggregate lead intact but they've failed to extend it and
00:24:31not often look like they were going to extend it in truth
00:24:36Schulman Pedro Gonçalves this is Maxi Araujo oh that is not far away
00:24:44it's another glimmer of the Arsenal goal for Sporting and they've had a few let-offs now Arsenal
00:24:51well that had David Raya stretching it's actually a fair way wide of goal in the end
00:25:00Kai Havertz who got the goal very very late on in Lisbon in the first leg that
00:25:05at the moment is the difference and it would be enough
00:25:12Madweke
00:25:15nice run by Madweke
00:25:19where's this dropping Ezra trying to get underneath it and oh he really caught that well
00:25:25Martinelli on his right foot rising all the time got plenty of power behind it but not the direction
00:25:41Gonzalo Inacio looking for Trincao
00:25:44Jenny Catamo deflecting oh now is there a push
00:25:49is there a push the referee is given a corner kick
00:25:54Maxi Araujo is convinced he was pushed
00:25:59Moschera came back
00:26:01that's not enough you wouldn't have thought
00:26:04the referee doesn't think so
00:26:05I can't see that being overturned
00:26:09right decision
00:26:12well this is Sporting's sixth away game in the Champions League this season
00:26:16they've only won one of them that was Athletic Club on match day eight
00:26:22what's the decision the decision is corner
00:26:32and that is the right decision
00:26:35despite what João Soros would have you believe
00:26:39Max Downman to take this corner kick for Arsenal
00:26:44looping and Truss on it hits the post
00:26:49that would have sealed it
00:26:51big let off here
00:26:52Downman's corner he was completely unmarked Truss up
00:26:56that's how close they were to
00:26:57sealing for sure
00:26:59a semi-final spot
00:27:05Giovanni Quenda to take this throw in
00:27:08they have to score now
00:27:09in it goes
00:27:11it drops the edge of the penalty area
00:27:13Alcimbo is
00:27:14side netting
00:27:16side netting
00:27:19it's a goal kick to Arsenal
00:27:21and that might see them over the line
00:27:25it does
00:27:29Arsenal
00:27:30are into the semi-finals
00:27:32of the Champions League
00:27:34on the night
00:27:36Arsenal nil
00:27:37Sporting nil
00:27:37on aggregate
00:27:40Sporting nil
00:27:41Arsenal won
00:27:44This is a massive boost
00:27:46to be in a semi-final of the Champions League
00:27:49it's extremely tough
00:27:51and we know what we've done
00:27:53we deserve it
00:27:54fully deserve it as well
00:27:55and we're going to enjoy it
00:27:57It was a really tough test over two games
00:27:59but to go back to back semi-finals
00:28:01is an amazing achievement for this group
00:28:03and we want to now go one step further than last year
00:28:06and then get to the final
00:28:07who cares what people think
00:28:08all that matters is what this group thinks
00:28:10what the manager thinks
00:28:10and we're in another semi-final
00:28:12I'm delighted
00:28:13I wish that we were doing the Arsenal documentary this season
00:28:15and you can film the last 48 hours
00:28:18and everything that has been said
00:28:20but we are watching the series in July
00:28:22and then we have to ask ourselves the question
00:28:25we are watching the movies and said
00:28:27okay, what is Arsenal place?
00:28:28I think all of us would say
00:28:30they are in the bottom three
00:28:32What are we talking about guys?
00:28:34Please
00:28:35enjoy where we are as a club
00:28:37if someone doesn't want to do it
00:28:38so be it
00:28:39we are doing
00:28:40enjoying a lot
00:28:41and I feel huge gratitude
00:28:43for what the players are doing
00:28:44and our supporters
00:28:45so thank you
00:28:47Does he have a point?
00:28:48Top of the Premier League
00:28:50successive semi-finals of the Champions League
00:28:52and he feels that some of the coverage
00:28:54is akin to them being in the bottom three?
00:28:57Does he have a point?
00:28:59Erm...
00:28:59I'm going to start by saying
00:29:00it's quite harsh for anyone else to say
00:29:01they don't care what we think
00:29:02that's just what we get paid for
00:29:04I'm going to be completely honest
00:29:06oh sorry
00:29:07excuse me
00:29:08the big reveal
00:29:08but I think in some ways
00:29:10like there is a lot of noise around Arsenal
00:29:12and for Arteta and some of the players
00:29:13they are hearing it
00:29:14they are seeing stuff online
00:29:15they are having to do with interviews
00:29:16and the questions are going to be
00:29:17probably a bit more negative
00:29:19than say they heard maybe a month ago
00:29:20but that's because of the fact
00:29:22that they previously had lost
00:29:22three of the last four games as such
00:29:24obviously in different competitions
00:29:26but it was the
00:29:27not necessarily the
00:29:28Carabao Cup final result
00:29:30there's maybe the FA Cup result
00:29:31which was a bit of a concern
00:29:32and that losing at home as well
00:29:34to Bournemouth
00:29:34that is a concern for a side
00:29:36that felt like they had
00:29:37really good momentum
00:29:37not too long ago
00:29:38so in some ways
00:29:39I think
00:29:41it's right for them
00:29:42to sort of close up
00:29:43and say
00:29:44we are who we are
00:29:45it's us against the world
00:29:45and so on
00:29:47but also
00:29:48it wasn't a great game today
00:29:49I feel like he's trying to
00:29:50convince everyone though
00:29:51who's everyone now?
00:29:52who's everyone
00:29:52yeah who's everyone
00:29:53he obviously feels like the media
00:29:55and everyone around
00:29:56and even the fans
00:29:57because
00:29:58you feel it tonight
00:29:59when they go through
00:30:01the anxiety in the crowd
00:30:03during the game
00:30:04it's almost like the Arsenal fans
00:30:05and they aren't happy at the moment
00:30:07at times
00:30:07I think they've booed them off
00:30:09against Bournemouth
00:30:09and you're thinking
00:30:11he's trying to convince them
00:30:12that everything's good
00:30:14and everything's fine
00:30:15well you don't have to convince everyone
00:30:16if you're happy with what you're seeing
00:30:18you don't have to tell everyone
00:30:20you can keep that to yourself
00:30:21do you not think as well
00:30:23he's trying to go
00:30:24actually Arsenal fans
00:30:26all of that lot on the telly
00:30:27are talking nonsense
00:30:28all of that lot
00:30:29who are writing in the press
00:30:30we're all talking nonsense
00:30:32the press are talking nonsense
00:30:33we're in this together
00:30:35don't forget where we are
00:30:36and don't forget
00:30:37what we've achieved
00:30:37isn't that what he's trying to do?
00:30:40yeah and Nathan often say
00:30:41there's style and substance
00:30:41in football
00:30:42and you can have one
00:30:43or the other
00:30:44or you can have both sometimes
00:30:45and I think Arsenal decision
00:30:46have had the result
00:30:47and the style
00:30:48they've played well
00:30:48they've won big games
00:30:49Bayern Munich
00:30:50Atlético Madrid
00:30:51maybe more in the Champions League
00:30:52than in the league
00:30:53but sometimes you have one
00:30:55and not the other
00:30:55and right now
00:30:56I think they should enjoy the fact
00:30:57that they are in the semi-final
00:30:58for the second year in a row
00:30:59they're still top of the league
00:31:00with a six point gap
00:31:01with City
00:31:02Sunday is massive
00:31:03sure
00:31:04but I think
00:31:05I understand why he feels
00:31:06there's too much negativity
00:31:07around the result even
00:31:09the style right now
00:31:10they're not playing well for sure
00:31:11but you're saying enjoy it
00:31:12they don't look like they're enjoying it
00:31:14as a fan group
00:31:15and as players
00:31:16I mean that looked like relief
00:31:18after the game
00:31:19when Declan Rice is interviewed
00:31:20he doesn't necessarily look like
00:31:22he's elated at getting that result
00:31:25it was like
00:31:26thank god that's over
00:31:27we're through
00:31:29because they know they're not
00:31:30playing well at the moment
00:31:31so it's trying to enjoy it
00:31:33but at this point of the season
00:31:35I don't think you do enjoy football
00:31:36I think you get over the line
00:31:39and you just think
00:31:39because he talked about it there
00:31:41the pressure's huge
00:31:42to get over the line
00:31:44for Arsenal to win a Champions League
00:31:45and a Premier League
00:31:46is absolutely massive
00:31:47that pressure is going to be there
00:31:49but they're one step closer
00:31:50to getting over the line though
00:31:51that's the point
00:31:52100% yeah
00:31:53I think the fact that they are
00:31:54top of the Premier League
00:31:55the fact that they're in the semi-finals
00:31:56of the Champions League
00:31:57they deserve to be in those positions
00:31:58based on the work that's brought them
00:31:59to this point
00:32:00Jules is talking about the games
00:32:01they had early in the Champions League
00:32:02and they were really significant
00:32:03they were top of the whole table
00:32:05they're very much deserving of it
00:32:06but the critiques that some people
00:32:07are having now
00:32:08is about the nature of the performances
00:32:10and at some point
00:32:11maybe they're trending to an area
00:32:13where a result like the one
00:32:14against Bournemouth on the weekend
00:32:15raises its head again
00:32:17and at this stage of the season
00:32:18if it happens then you do
00:32:19Right, next
00:32:21Liverpool against Paris Saint-Germain
00:32:23and the reigning champions
00:32:24showed their class
00:32:25in the first leg last week
00:32:30Springtime in Paris
00:32:32perhaps just the change of scene
00:32:34Liverpool need
00:32:34to get themselves singing again
00:32:36Douai
00:32:39might have a chance to curl one in
00:32:41and it is in
00:32:44Valetskalian kicks his feet
00:32:46oh that's magnificent
00:32:48what a player he is
00:32:51Zaire Emery with a break into the box
00:32:53here he is
00:32:53Zaire Emery
00:32:54was he fouled by Canate
00:32:56referee says
00:32:57yes he was
00:32:58although look at this
00:32:59he actually takes the ball cleanly
00:33:02it's not going to be a penalty
00:33:04PSG have the first leg lead
00:33:06they have advantage in the tie
00:33:07but it could have been more
00:33:09it could have been so much worse for Liverpool
00:33:13could the Anfield crowd inspire Liverpool
00:33:15to one of the great European comebacks
00:33:17or would Paris Saint-Germain
00:33:18remain on course to retain their title
00:33:21Guy Mowbray was there
00:33:23Liverpool need to turn back the clock
00:33:26not far
00:33:27just to that recent time
00:33:29when high risk attacking football
00:33:31was the only way
00:33:32tonight
00:33:33it has to be the way
00:33:35team wise
00:33:36five changes from Saturday against Fulham
00:33:38for just one from last week's first leg defeat in Paris
00:33:41and it's back to a back four
00:33:43as Alexander Isak starts
00:33:45for the first time since breaking his leg in December
00:33:47with Joe Gomez dropping out
00:33:50for PSG the same side that kicked off their 2-0 win six nights ago
00:33:54having had the luxury of a weekend off on request
00:33:57one extra bit of threat lies in weight if required
00:34:00with Bradley Barcola fit to return to the bench
00:34:05before the start
00:34:07on the eve of the 37th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster
00:34:11Anfield remembers the 97
00:34:38Liverpool charge back
00:34:40Clarice Kelly sees the run of Joe Neves
00:34:42there's Joe Neves in towards Dembele
00:34:44who misses
00:34:45and might well have been offside
00:34:49oh no he was onside
00:34:50no problem there
00:34:51it's a big miss by Dembele
00:34:57it's a boss line
00:34:59Necateke goes down before the ball arrives
00:35:02as though foul
00:35:03maybe he just lost his footing
00:35:06there's Douay
00:35:09three kick Liverpool
00:35:11just as Liverpool try to restart
00:35:13Ecateke has gone down to the floor again
00:35:16maybe just went over on his ankle
00:35:17and he's in some distress
00:35:20Mo Salah will get his chance
00:35:23applause all around the ground
00:35:25Liverpoolians and Parisians
00:35:26as Ecateke is carried off
00:35:34the rain has started to fall on Merseyside
00:35:36Van Dijk is up there as an extra
00:35:38attacking bet here
00:35:40Canate didn't get it
00:35:42Saphanov saves
00:35:43Van Dijk goes in
00:35:44and what a challenge that is
00:35:46Marquinhos has just saved PSG
00:35:50what a block
00:35:53Liverpool still wondering how
00:35:54why that didn't go in
00:35:58Saphanov was alert
00:35:59but what about Marquinhos
00:36:04double Liverpool change
00:36:05for the start of the second half
00:36:07with Jeremy Frimpon
00:36:09and Alexander Issac
00:36:10replaced by Joe Gomez
00:36:12and Cody Gakpo
00:36:14there's Gakpo
00:36:16Gakpo drives
00:36:17and Saphanov decided
00:36:19he had to get down
00:36:20he had to get across
00:36:21he makes the same
00:36:22what's this going in
00:36:23from Cody Gakpo?
00:36:26oh it was
00:36:27and it's just what Liverpool need to do
00:36:29it's just what the fans want to see
00:36:35Salah
00:36:35being called by Hernandez
00:36:39Salah then plays it across
00:36:40Kerkes was coming in
00:36:42but it was neither
00:36:43effort on goal
00:36:44nor tee up for Gakpo
00:36:48brilliant from Salah this time
00:36:50super run from Kerkes
00:36:52but then you could
00:36:53see that he was caught in two minds
00:37:03Salah
00:37:04it's a boss lie
00:37:06even he's having a think about it
00:37:08and he thought too long as well
00:37:09down goes McAllister
00:37:11and the referee's given a penalty
00:37:1564th minute
00:37:16is this the tie changing moment
00:37:20and that's this McAllister
00:37:22trying to shield the ball
00:37:24with William Pacho at his back
00:37:26is that enough to
00:37:29constitute a foul
00:37:31and he's coming across to have a look
00:37:32I thought that might be the case
00:37:35it looks soft
00:37:36it didn't look quite right
00:37:38and I think that's what will be the verdict
00:37:42and enough of a look
00:37:44he's wiped out his original decision
00:37:46no penalty for Liverpool
00:37:56Salah
00:37:59Salah gets it in
00:38:01for Gakpo to try and turn
00:38:02or tee up Wirtz
00:38:04now it's McAllister
00:38:06and it's come to Kerkes
00:38:08N'Gamoa
00:38:09N'Gamoa
00:38:12N'Gamoa's got the chance
00:38:12and Sapunov
00:38:14springs into action
00:38:16he's had a really solid game
00:38:17the PSG keeper
00:38:20and Rio N'Gamoa
00:38:22playing fearless football
00:38:23and making a difference
00:38:34towards Barcola
00:38:35this is the
00:38:36area Liverpool have to be really wary of
00:38:40Barcola
00:38:41well that's Kalia
00:38:43giving it everything to attack
00:38:44and leaving themselves at the back
00:38:46Dembele
00:38:46now
00:38:48Dembele
00:38:50surely has sealed the tie
00:38:52for Paris Saint-Germain
00:38:55that is
00:38:56a world-class finish
00:38:58it was always likely
00:39:00to be the story
00:39:01for Liverpool tonight
00:39:02at some point
00:39:03the more they pushed
00:39:04the more they were vulnerable
00:39:07Dembele is all by himself here
00:39:09and Kalistat only made a token attempt to close
00:39:13he's got his sights set from the start
00:39:15at that bottom right hand corner
00:39:30that's Kalia
00:39:31that's Kalia
00:39:32gets it through to Barcola
00:39:33Barcola squares it
00:39:352-0
00:39:36Dembele again
00:39:39PSG are ending this with a flourish
00:39:42Liverpool wide open
00:39:44and as we've seen so many times before
00:39:47Ousmane Dembele
00:39:49does not miss
00:39:51it'll be checked to see if he was offside or not
00:39:53and he certainly wasn't from the ball across
00:39:57Barcola
00:39:59just right
00:40:00get onto that
00:40:02Dembele just passes it past
00:40:04Mamadashvili
00:40:10Dandijk to Kerkhez
00:40:15Dembele steps over it
00:40:22all over at Anfield
00:40:25all over for Liverpool
00:40:27in this Champions League season
00:40:28Liverpool 0
00:40:30Paris Saint-Germain 2
00:40:32they've won the tie
00:40:344-0 on aggregate
00:40:37Unfortunately it's one of the many examples of this season
00:40:40where we weren't able to score from the many chances we had
00:40:44again we were so far underperforming in terms of XG
00:40:49and that is just an ongoing thing with us throughout the whole season
00:40:53and add to that as it seems to be a bad injury we don't know sure yet
00:40:58add to that another intervention of the VAR which were not in our favour
00:41:04and that's also not for the first time this season
00:41:06then of course we are very disappointed because
00:41:09I think there were parts in the second half where you could just feel
00:41:12if we can score now this is going to become a special night
00:41:15Well in a moment we'll talk about Liverpool's performance
00:41:19but for Stephens at the screen to look at Paris Saint-Germain's midfield
00:41:23Yeah Chappers, when you look at the Paris Saint-Germain team and how good they are
00:41:27you have to say where everything good comes from is the heart of midfield
00:41:32the engine room
00:41:33these three players, we're going to take a look at them now
00:41:35we're going to highlight them
00:41:36you've got Joao Neves, Vitinha, Zaire Emery
00:41:39always looking at the pitch, always looking forward to scanning, seeing what's going on
00:41:44and Vitinha, he's the key to everything that's good
00:41:47drives into the heart of Liverpool's midfield
00:41:49draws players round him, wants them on top of him
00:41:52because that creates space for other players
00:41:54you'll see here Gravenberg saying to McAllister
00:41:56you're going to have to pick someone up, who you're picking up
00:41:59making sure that they press
00:42:00they get caught a little bit here Liverpool
00:42:02but then the ball's played in behind
00:42:03now you're saying to Liverpool's midfielders
00:42:06you're going to have to get back onto the edge of the area
00:42:08make sure you defend
00:42:09that just leaves that box on the edge of the area
00:42:12for the Paris Saint-Germain players now
00:42:13to create space, get the shot away
00:42:16but a decent header by Canarte
00:42:18good interception
00:42:19but Joao Neves, this was absolutely stunning
00:42:22lovely little header, over the top of Florian Wirtz
00:42:24then he starts that attack
00:42:26Vitinha now is on that left wing
00:42:28quick, incisive football
00:42:30one and two touch football
00:42:31but keep your eye on Vitinha and Gravenberg
00:42:34Vitinha now, because he knows he's got them two sitting players
00:42:37he just starts to wander across the pitch
00:42:39Gravenberg switches off
00:42:40he doesn't follow him
00:42:42now Vitinha's had a little look, I'm free
00:42:44I can just find them pockets of space
00:42:46picks it up
00:42:47and he probably chooses the wrong decision here
00:42:50because Canarte gets drawn towards the ball
00:42:52Kvaric-Skelia is now in space
00:42:53he tries a little dink, but look at his striker
00:42:56desperate for the ball
00:42:57they bypass the midfield this time
00:42:59but keep your eye on Vitinha
00:43:00he doesn't even look at the ball
00:43:02one thing in his mind, I'm going to cover the run from McAllister
00:43:04the two other players close in
00:43:06and we talk about energy in the Paris Saint-Germain team
00:43:09look at Hakimi, he's the right back
00:43:11who ends up getting on the end of this
00:43:12it's incredible
00:43:13the energy that they have as a team
00:43:15is quite phenomenal
00:43:17and this is the end of the game
00:43:18so the game was almost dead
00:43:20but you see the quality again from Vitinha
00:43:23but when we talk about energy
00:43:24desire to defend
00:43:25look at Milos Kerkers
00:43:27he's Liverpool's left back
00:43:28head down, disappointment
00:43:29you've got to get back in
00:43:31Canarte now has a decision to make
00:43:33does he go with Barcola
00:43:34does he go with Kvaric-Skelia
00:43:36goes in on Kvaric-Skelia
00:43:37makes the wrong decision
00:43:38simple pass from Barcola
00:43:40brilliant from Dembele
00:43:41but when you look at this Paris Saint-Germain team
00:43:44I think they have the best three midfielders in the world
00:43:47Thank you Steven
00:43:49and here are the stats from both legs
00:43:52combined
00:43:53and when you look at those 24 shots
00:43:56and 5 on target for Liverpool
00:43:57but just the XG of just over 2
00:44:00can you understand Arna Slott's point
00:44:03about how much they underperformed?
00:44:05To a certain extent, yes
00:44:07I think in some ways
00:44:09for 24 shots
00:44:09I'd probably like the expected goal to be a little bit higher
00:44:12but he's spoken there as if it's exceptionally high
00:44:14and I don't think that's to be the case at all
00:44:15and to add to that
00:44:18they had three shots in the first leg
00:44:19you know we've combined the two things together
00:44:21but basically we're only talking about the second game
00:44:23in particular the second half of the second game
00:44:26yes that might be a theme that's existed for Liverpool throughout the season
00:44:28but many sides say the same thing
00:44:30if you are to be a side that's successful
00:44:32you have to take those chances
00:44:33and to outperform the XG
00:44:34but that 2.14 isn't that much in my opinion
00:44:37and you can see how much they dominated the ball as well
00:44:39I mean Steven highlights that midfield three
00:44:41but across both legs
00:44:42they nearly completed double the amount of passes
00:44:44yeah I thought they were outstanding
00:44:45and I guess in that second half of the second leg
00:44:48on Tuesday we saw a different side of this PSG team
00:44:51that can also defend well
00:44:52and fight on every ball
00:44:54Patro, Marquinhos were outstanding
00:44:55you grind out almost those 25 minutes where you're struggling
00:44:59you're under pressure, you can't play the ball out like you want
00:45:02and then you just wait for that wave to go
00:45:04and then as we saw in transition
00:45:06I don't think there's a better team
00:45:08apart from maybe Bayern
00:45:09Did VL get it right to overturn the McAllister penalty?
00:45:12I think so, I think so
00:45:13I think in the build up to it
00:45:16it feels to me as if there's going to be a kick from William Patro
00:45:18but the fact is, it's not really there
00:45:21and I'm calling that a fact
00:45:23but I think McAllister squatted down quite low there
00:45:25seeking the contact itself
00:45:26and then he's gone down after he's felt it
00:45:28but there's so much contact happening everywhere in the box there
00:45:31If he was to come through Patro and kick through the back of him
00:45:33I totally get it
00:45:34but I think they've made the right decision there
00:45:36and I think in some ways the referee has sensed that
00:45:38that's what must have happened
00:45:40but for the people who got a chance to see it again
00:45:42and when the referee saw it again
00:45:43I think that's an easy overturn in my opinion
00:45:45and I don't know how many people
00:45:47that aren't at the Liverpool persuasion would think otherwise
00:45:50Ok, let's widen it out with Liverpool
00:45:53we heard what Arna Slott said
00:45:54after he was on the radio last night
00:45:56you were both there and you questioned his selection
00:46:00Yeah, I think when you look at Isak in centre-fold position
00:46:03coming out before the game and saying that
00:46:05he can only play for 45 minutes
00:46:07and I'm thinking, ok, well if you can only play for 45 minutes
00:46:10run yourself into the ground, work hard
00:46:12make sure that you have an effect on the game
00:46:14five touches is simply not enough
00:46:18he looked very unfit last night
00:46:21I think you can definitely say that
00:46:23but the team selection was surprising
00:46:26I don't think you should have started Rio and Gamora
00:46:30but when you've got your two goal scorers from the weekend
00:46:33and Mohamed Salah is one of them
00:46:35and you're thinking, he's suddenly confident again
00:46:37why wouldn't you play him?
00:46:38I know there's an element of
00:46:40he might not work as hard
00:46:41but you've got to have a player
00:46:43that given moments, given an opportunity
00:46:45he looked so annoyed last night when he came off the bench
00:46:48as if they say, I should be playing anyway
00:46:51is he just searching?
00:46:53he's just searching to get a combination right somewhere
00:46:56you could say that, but we are in the middle of April
00:46:58and we've still not found that combination yet
00:47:00I think at times, I've had injury issues as such
00:47:02and I've been thinking in some ways, the stuff of Izak
00:47:04like he's not been fit in a full season
00:47:06because he started pre-season the way that he did
00:47:08in terms of being on strike at Newcastle
00:47:09then he's had a significant injury
00:47:11and he's trying to find it now
00:47:12I think I almost see like, he's trying to give him a chance
00:47:15to play a significant 45 minutes
00:47:17but in these moments, at this point in the season
00:47:19you need people that are ready
00:47:20and if you've got two players already on the bench
00:47:22they could play ahead of him
00:47:22I think to me, you absolutely have to do that
00:47:24I think the big thing at the moment
00:47:25when we watch the teams who are playing tonight
00:47:27and you go Bayern Munich, Real Madrid
00:47:31definitely Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain
00:47:32I'd go with those two teams
00:47:34if I asked you how they play
00:47:36I think you could tell me exactly the style of football they play
00:47:39Arna Slott talks about controlled possession
00:47:42they look anything but controlled in a game at the moment
00:47:45and I think that's a real concern
00:47:46and we said this last week on the show
00:47:48that they've spent 450 million in the summer
00:47:51and yet they're still, I think, further away from Paris Saint-Germain
00:47:54back to Paris Saint-Germain
00:47:56as we approach a summer where managers are going to be going here, there and everywhere
00:48:01the expectation is that Luis Enrique won't be going anywhere
00:48:04No, he should sign an extension very soon
00:48:06I think you're near an agreement now for another two years
00:48:08he's got another year on the current contract
00:48:10I think he's got something really good going on with his squads
00:48:13with his generation
00:48:14and I think he can probably even improve it a little bit more
00:48:18so I think he's going to stay
00:48:19Okay, further bad news for Liverpool as well
00:48:22that Achilles injury that Hugo Ekotique suffered
00:48:25will rule him out for the rest of the season
00:48:27and also the World Cup for France
00:48:30Didier Deschamps confirmed that in a statement today
00:48:34Finally, Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win at Barcelona last week
00:48:38was Diego Simeone's first ever win at Camp Nou as a manager
00:48:42and Atletico's first victory there in 20 years
00:48:45Last night Barcelona attempted to turn that deficit around
00:48:48Commentary from Mark Scott
00:48:51So are Barcelona going to pull off a special remontada
00:48:56or will Atletico get the job done
00:48:59and eliminate Barca at this stage for the third time
00:49:04is this a very, very, very good
00:49:14Clément Longley, former Barcelona man
00:49:17and has nearly gifted his whole team the ball
00:49:19Laminya Mal
00:49:20Oh, what a start for Barcelona, and what a twist in the tie too, desperate for a fast start, and
00:49:31that's exactly what handsy flicks men have got, oh they look up for it don't they, especially him, coolness personified
00:49:41from the 18 year old, as he tucked away his 6th goal in the Champions League this season.
00:49:49And Barcelona believe that they can turn this around, now here's another opportunity, and over goes Dani Olmo, that's a
00:50:05really good stop for Van Musso, to prevent Barcelona potentially getting the tie all square on aggregate inside of 10
00:50:14minutes, back with Antoine Griezmann,
00:50:17it has arced it to Anamola Luqman, this is promising, Luqman's ball, Griezmann couldn't quite scoop it in, that's an
00:50:29excellent piece of defensive work from Gerard Martin,
00:50:36Ok, Griezmann, oh, disastrous pass, and he gets away with it, almost another Atleti error leading to a Barcelona goal.
00:50:50Dani Olmo, that's a good pass, angles tight, but he made it work anyway, fabulous from Ferran Torres, and it's
00:51:00a brilliant Barcelona effort so far, that has levelled the tie on aggregate.
00:51:06Good, Barcelona have sliced through them once again, made to measure pass, and then how about that for a finish,
00:51:15slick from Dani Olmo, sensational from Ferran Torres.
00:51:20And it has been such a wonderful half from Barcelona so far, Lamina Mal now, that's a great ball, Juan
00:51:32Musso to the rescue, it would have been absolutely outrageous if Barca had scored again there,
00:51:39but there's some concern here, after the collision, oh dear, that looks awful, sumptuous fall in from Lamina Mal,
00:51:55Oh, and that's a really horrific contact on Firmin Lopez from the boot of Juan Musso, obviously no intent whatsoever.
00:52:06Griezmann, beautiful touch, Llorente has Luchman in the centre, can he find him? He can!
00:52:13And Atleti back in front in the tie, Adamo Luchman, lethal from Atleti on the counter there.
00:52:25And all of Barcelona's good work is undone in the blink of an eye.
00:52:31Llorente deserves a tremendous amount of credit for popping that ball in expertly on the run.
00:52:39And then Luchman with the crisp first-time finish, and all of a sudden, Atleti's nerves are steadied somewhat.
00:52:52Danny Olmo, cleverly done, and in again from Ferran Torres!
00:53:02Close control from Gabi, but was Ferran Torres offside? He looks it.
00:53:11Vichero and Vriza informing Clement Urpa as to whether this goal is valid or not, and the answer is no.
00:53:18Atletico, it's disallowed for offside, and Atletico remain in front on aggregate.
00:53:29Salah is up there making a nuisance to himself!
00:53:32Oh, that's a massive save!
00:53:34Just about keeps Barcelona in the equation.
00:53:38You see Barcelona be wasteful in front of goal.
00:53:41Just have to give Michean Garcia credit for making himself big enough to block the effort.
00:53:51Marcus Llorente.
00:53:52Sirloff's on the wrong side of Garcia, and it's been hauled down!
00:53:57Now, Jean Cundé was there,
00:53:59and I think that's why the yellow is out rather than the red.
00:54:05Was Kundé getting across in time?
00:54:12It is a straight red card for Eric Garcia,
00:54:17and just as with last week,
00:54:20Barcelona find themselves down to ten!
00:54:28Deep ball in.
00:54:30Oh, and that's a big chance for Araujo!
00:54:35Barcelona's hopes of staying in the competition
00:54:38have just disappeared.
00:54:43Atletico have done a job on Barca
00:54:46in the quarterfinals once again,
00:54:48as Diego Simeone
00:54:51sees his side
00:54:53muscle their way
00:54:54into the last four
00:54:56of the Champions League
00:54:58after a nine-year absence.
00:55:02What a surprise for you
00:55:04to know
00:55:04that the Madrid papers
00:55:06and the Barcelona papers
00:55:08have different views on this game.
00:55:10From the Madrid side of things,
00:55:12epic
00:55:12and heroic
00:55:14were a couple of the words used.
00:55:16From the Barcelona side of things,
00:55:18how unfair
00:55:20as they criticise
00:55:21the performance as being official.
00:55:24Who'd have thought?
00:55:25That's crazy.
00:55:25Who would have thought
00:55:26those differing opinions?
00:55:28Antoine Griezmann was absolutely central to this, wasn't he?
00:55:31Yeah, absolutely.
00:55:31And he needed to be.
00:55:32I think somebody who's experienced the,
00:55:33as he is,
00:55:34in such a sort of stalwart for Atletico Madrid,
00:55:36I loved his performance yesterday
00:55:38because there were times
00:55:39where the game was a little bit fast-paced,
00:55:41but you need somebody with a composure
00:55:42and understanding of how to manage the game.
00:55:45Not to say that, you know,
00:55:46it's always negative or anything like that
00:55:47because he's very much still on the front foot.
00:55:49One of the best attackers
00:55:50that we've seen over the last decade
00:55:52and the quality of pass that he has
00:55:53throughout this game
00:55:54is so, so impressive,
00:55:55but then also following it up.
00:55:56You could argue he was a little bit upset
00:55:58that he was on the corner there,
00:55:59but his general play,
00:56:00so, so good.
00:56:01Coming in short
00:56:01to try and stretch the Barcelona line
00:56:03and then that type of ball first time
00:56:05on his weaker foot.
00:56:06This is what sets up key moments within the game
00:56:08and this goal from Luckman
00:56:09is essentially the goal that sends them through.
00:56:11But again, I love the fact
00:56:12that he always tries to be available,
00:56:13taking the ball under pressure,
00:56:14looking after it.
00:56:15Somebody that isn't the biggest player in the world
00:56:17but can really manage the game,
00:56:19manage people around him,
00:56:20dictate the tempo.
00:56:21Coming short for it again,
00:56:22you need the options when you're at the back.
00:56:24And look at the way he just manoeuvres the ball,
00:56:26spreads the ball to the right area.
00:56:28And this is his last chance
00:56:29in the Champions League for Atletico Madrid,
00:56:31given the fact he's leaving this summer
00:56:32for Orlando of all places.
00:56:34But what a legend he has been
00:56:36for Atletico Madrid,
00:56:37for Spanish football,
00:56:38and yeah, he will very much be missed
00:56:39because he's still key to them for this day.
00:56:41Yeah, it obviously had a very different vibe
00:56:43to the Real Madrid Bayern game,
00:56:45but it was still brilliantly tense,
00:56:47was that.
00:56:48Played in an incredible atmosphere.
00:56:50Yeah, I agree.
00:56:51And the interesting thing about this game,
00:56:52in my opinion,
00:56:52is I think Barcelona have been the better side
00:56:54for both legs.
00:56:55But still, they're going out.
00:56:57Do you feel that's a missed opportunity for them?
00:57:00I think most teams get knocked out
00:57:01in these final stages.
00:57:02We'll definitely think that.
00:57:03I don't think it feels as drastic
00:57:05as, say, in the moment
00:57:05where they lost Intermallion
00:57:06in the semi-final last year.
00:57:07But they know with those two red cards
00:57:09that they've given up,
00:57:10there's no way they're going to come out
00:57:10on top in those times.
00:57:12So we have reached the final four
00:57:14in this year's competition.
00:57:16Let's show you them.
00:57:17It's a 20-second semi-final appearance
00:57:20for Bayern,
00:57:21and they will take on
00:57:22the defending champions, PSG,
00:57:24who are into the last four
00:57:25for the fifth time
00:57:26in seven seasons.
00:57:28On the other side of the draw,
00:57:30Arsenal appear in the semi-finals
00:57:32for the second successive year.
00:57:34Atletico Madrid
00:57:35are in there for the first time
00:57:37since 2016-17.
00:57:41Overall,
00:57:42do you find them both hard to call?
00:57:45The games, yeah.
00:57:47Yeah.
00:57:47I think very difficult
00:57:48because I just look at
00:57:50Paris Saint-Germain,
00:57:51I think they're brilliant going forward.
00:57:53I think Bayern can hurt them.
00:57:54I think they really can.
00:57:55In the other game,
00:57:56I look at it and just think,
00:57:58where are the goals coming from?
00:58:00Oh, my God.
00:58:01I think it's going to be very difficult.
00:58:02I think both teams are going to set up
00:58:04to not concede,
00:58:05and it could be settled on a set piece.
00:58:08I hope it's not.
00:58:10I think, out of the two,
00:58:11I think Atletico are a little bit
00:58:13more adventurous, though.
00:58:14What you would say is,
00:58:16actually,
00:58:17here is the benefit
00:58:18of the league system,
00:58:19because I would imagine
00:58:21neither Arsenal or Bayern
00:58:23would have been wanting
00:58:24to go to the other place
00:58:25in the second leg,
00:58:26particularly Arsenal, actually,
00:58:28when we saw that
00:58:29Atletico Madrid atmosphere.
00:58:30Yeah, you're right,
00:58:31which is not the case
00:58:31from last season.
00:58:33We would have had a draw
00:58:34for home and away.
00:58:35This time it's already set,
00:58:36and you're right,
00:58:37Bayern and Arsenal
00:58:38have earned the right
00:58:39to host the second leg
00:58:41because they finished
00:58:42first and second
00:58:43in that league phase.
00:58:44What's interesting as well
00:58:45in those two summits
00:58:45is that they've already
00:58:46played each other
00:58:47in the league phase.
00:58:48Arsenal hammered Atletico 4-0
00:58:50at a time
00:58:50where they were playing
00:58:51much better,
00:58:52and there was a better flow
00:58:53to them, but still.
00:58:54And then Bayern went to Paris
00:58:55and won 2-1 as well
00:58:56in the league phase
00:58:57by playing the second half
00:58:59with 10 against 11,
00:59:00for example.
00:59:00So psychologically,
00:59:01even if that was a long time ago
00:59:02and a lot of things
00:59:03have changed since,
00:59:04there's a bit of something
00:59:05already between those four teams.
00:59:06Yeah, I think it's great,
00:59:07and I think both sides
00:59:08of the draw are almost
00:59:08representing different styles
00:59:10of football in this
00:59:10particular moment.
00:59:11You know, on the PSG,
00:59:13Bayern's side is very much
00:59:13front foot, all-out attack,
00:59:15and on the other side
00:59:15there's a defensive
00:59:18first type mindset.
00:59:19Sure, solidity, yeah.
00:59:20But you don't know
00:59:20who's going to come out on top,
00:59:21and I think as well
00:59:22for the general sort of
00:59:23league phase and so on,
00:59:24you've got the number one seed
00:59:25and number two seed,
00:59:26and you've got another team
00:59:27from the playoffs.
00:59:28So just to remind you
00:59:29that as long as you're
00:59:29in that hat for that next round,
00:59:31anything's possible.
00:59:32And also, in a season
00:59:34when there've been
00:59:34six English teams
00:59:35and goodness knows
00:59:36how many from different
00:59:37countries, you've got
00:59:39four teams from
00:59:40different countries,
00:59:41and four of the
00:59:42big five league.
00:59:43I think it's fantastic.
00:59:45I've really enjoyed
00:59:46the journey to this point,
00:59:47but you still know
00:59:48there's something special
00:59:49ahead, so yeah,
00:59:50I'm all good with it.
00:59:51Are Paris Saint-Germain
00:59:52still the favourites?
00:59:53You said...
00:59:54Paris Saint-Germain
00:59:54No, we said a statement,
00:59:56sorry, I shouldn't
00:59:57put that as special.
00:59:58Are Paris Saint-Germain
00:59:59still the favourites?
01:00:00I mean, as the holders,
01:00:01I think we have to be,
01:00:03you know, it's OK.
01:00:04I can go home now.
01:00:04Let's wrap it up.
01:00:05One thing I'd say to you
01:00:06is do not sit next to him
01:00:08when Paris Saint-Germain
01:00:09are playing.
01:00:09My arm's killing.
01:00:11I got stressed last night.
01:00:12That's it.
01:00:13Thanks for the name of
01:00:14Steven Julien.
01:00:15We will see you
01:00:16for the final four
01:00:17in a couple of weeks.
01:00:18Good night.
01:00:33We'll see you next time.
01:00:34These are the champions.
01:00:41Dear nice men.
