00:00Aerosmith?
00:02With Ron DMC.
00:03Yes, sir.
00:04Nailed it.
00:04There we go.
00:05There we go.
00:05Nailed it.
00:07All right.
00:07Welcome back into the drive.
00:09One hour down.
00:10It is a beautiful Friday here in the city.
00:13In the 80s, baby.
00:14Feels good.
00:15Out here.
00:16Hopefully you enjoy your day as the weekend gets going tonight.
00:21Me and Tyler, we're out at the Heights tonight.
00:23We'll be having a good time.
00:25I'm just kidding.
00:26I thought you had a live broadcast going or something.
00:28What the hell happened, man?
00:31Yep.
00:31Where is that country line dance in place you took me that one time
00:35where I ended up just watching the replay of the AFC championship game?
00:39Oh, gosh.
00:41Oh, Austin's backyard.
00:43That's it.
00:43Yes.
00:44They were getting it in there.
00:46I mean, that's a place I'd like for you to take me there.
00:48They was getting it in there.
00:50They got saddles that are – they got stools that are made with saddles?
00:53No.
00:54But it is a cool spot.
00:55I'll take you there any time.
00:56They were getting it, boy.
00:57That was our second –
00:58Can I sit on a keg barrel?
00:59No.
00:59That was our second spot.
01:00Our second spot of the night.
01:02Took us over there.
01:03I said, ooh, they are getting it in.
01:04I got good and drunk that night.
01:06I know.
01:06I remember that evening.
01:08I know.
01:08I don't.
01:10I don't remember it.
01:11I don't – I remember going in there and I said, well, I don't think I'm – I don't
01:14think I'm about to get out of here.
01:16They are getting it.
01:16I was pissed because I lost my damn giveaway rocket shirt I got at the game that night.
01:21Ah.
01:22Yeah, definitely.
01:23We'll probably track you down another one.
01:24Austin City Limits.
01:26All right.
01:26There you go.
01:26Austin's backyard.
01:27Yeah.
01:28Yeah.
01:28Austin City Limits is –
01:30Yeah, Champ Slice.
01:30It's a good show, though, isn't it?
01:31Champ Slice.
01:32We should have a drive night out.
01:34Yeah.
01:35I don't know why we wouldn't, man.
01:36Yeah.
01:37If the drive family wants it, the drive family gets it.
01:40I think Tyler should make another big bet.
01:42Yep.
01:42Someone texted in, Tyler, you're 100% too old for Austin's.
01:47I mean, the large group I was with were all my age or older, but they took my money.
01:54You trying to take me to a playground, Tyler?
01:57It's the Heights, man.
01:59It's the Heights.
02:00It's not Northgate College Station.
02:04He was so serious with that one.
02:05It's the Heights, man.
02:06It's the Heights, man.
02:07What the hell are you talking about?
02:09No, man.
02:10I think you know nightlife, friend.
02:11You're young enough.
02:12You're young enough.
02:13Is that always country music or is that just a –
02:15They must have been a night.
02:17Yeah.
02:17Yeah.
02:17They do like the line dances you hear in country music and stuff, but they play a little bit
02:21of everything, but I would say it's, I guess, country heavy.
02:24There's a lot of two-stepping going on.
02:25Every night or is that just like a country Thursday night?
02:27Every night, I think.
02:28Yeah.
02:30Hmm.
02:31Hmm.
02:32Cool spot.
02:33They got a mechanical bull out front.
02:35Yeah?
02:36You ever been on it?
02:37I have.
02:39Very intoxicated.
02:40I think you did that night.
02:42I mean, I think you jumped on it that night.
02:44I mean, I would pay – what would you pay to see that?
02:46I saw it.
02:47Oh, you were there?
02:48Yeah.
02:48I think you jumped on it that night.
02:49That night?
02:50Oh, wow.
02:50That night was the one and only time I had.
02:52I think you just jumped on it.
02:53Yeah.
02:54Yeah.
02:54I wasn't running.
02:55They didn't have anyone out there running it.
02:56Oh, you didn't?
02:57Oh, okay.
02:57Well, hell.
02:59I do enjoy watching some ladies get up there real drunk, though.
03:02No, I'll hell with that.
03:03I want to see drunk Tyler.
03:05With his hat?
03:05Oh, yeah.
03:06He doesn't stay on?
03:06After a four-for-four day.
03:08I got eight seconds for you, baby.
03:11Rest in peace, Luke Perry.
03:13You know what you got?
03:14Eight seconds.
03:15Yeah.
03:15Eight seconds.
03:16I'm going until I hear that bell.
03:18It's going to be on the ground when you hear that bell.
03:21Upside down.
03:22I want to see Tyler real damn serious with their –
03:27The sky is spinning.
03:30All right.
03:31Charles Davis.
03:33He does his mock drafts.
03:35He is a – I know he always on NFL Network here has been doing mock drafts
03:40and doing the draft.
03:41And he came out with his first-round draft.
03:45And I am really – and I want people to think this through before you send
03:50your thoughts in on the base power text line 713-572-4610
03:54and or YouTube and Twitch to kind of think about it for a second.
04:00He's got at 28.
04:01And remember, you're at 28, right?
04:03So, you're at the back half of the first round.
04:06You've got a lot of guys that probably are in a certain level that Nick Casario has.
04:12He's got them drafting.
04:13This guy is climbing up the board.
04:14I've watched him play.
04:15He's nice.
04:16And he really fits.
04:19Oh, does he?
04:20Oh, it's a Kamari Lassiter type like –
04:25Oh, I don't know if his skill is all the way, but something about him.
04:29It is.
04:29Yeah.
04:30It's – they've got them taking a defensive end from Missouri, Zion Young.
04:35Number nine in your program.
04:38Number six in your heart.
04:40But he is – he is a pass rusher that loves to set the edge.
04:45That's got some speed coming off the edge.
04:48And I think most of the year I've seen him as a second-round guy.
04:51But now they really – they've really started to move him up there.
04:55But defensive end at 28, when you got Will and obviously you got – you got Daniel Hunter.
05:02And that's probably, you could argue, even depth-wise, your strongest position on the team.
05:08But I don't hate it.
05:10I love the thought of teams and really good teams that prepare for – prepare for the next step.
05:18Well, you want to talk about keeping this defense together.
05:21I think one way – we talked about the corners yesterday.
05:23I do think you've got to find a way to be elite on the edges.
05:28And when we talk edges in Houston, we're talking the cornerback position as well as the edge rushers at the
05:32line of scrimmage.
05:33And I think one way to do that, Ryan, is to recreate what you've got right now.
05:38Now, you've got a guy that is 100% a fit for D'Amico Ryan's, has been from jump, and
05:46is an absolute baller that's playing on a rookie contract.
05:50And then the defensive end, the edge rusher opposite him, and Daniel Hunter, you got to pay him.
05:58He was top of the league when you got him.
05:59You got to pay him.
06:00Now, you're going to have to pay Will Anderson.
06:02You know that.
06:05Ideally, you would like to hit on a Zion Young or an edge rusher in this year's draft.
06:10Yep.
06:11Year one, he plays behind Daniel Hunter.
06:13He's a rotation piece.
06:14Next year, you say goodbye to Daniel Hunter.
06:17He takes – really what happens is Will takes Daniel's spot in terms of making all the money.
06:21And then this young kid, Zion Young, would take Will's spot in terms of playing on a rookie contract and
06:27playing lights out.
06:29And you're buying him a year because he doesn't have to hit – with Daniel Hunter here this year, he
06:33doesn't have to be what Will's right at the gate.
06:36He just needs to be able to get there and be wired the right way.
06:39So, I'm not mad at it at all.
06:40I think it's a – I think it is a brilliant plan.
06:43D'Amico Ryan.
06:43There are a lot – the Ravens, the Eagles, the Chiefs, they have routinely done this.
06:50Yeah.
06:50Where, oh, oh, they drafted that position.
06:53Yeah, because they know they're about to move off of this player.
06:57And, like, the Chiefs drafted a corner because they knew they weren't going to re-sign Snead.
07:03So, they draft a corner in the first round.
07:05Yeah.
07:05So, when he leaves, they've got their – we've seen the Ravens do it a bunch of times on their
07:09defense a lot.
07:10So, I think it's a really, really smart move for – because you're probably – you're not going to –
07:19you're probably not going to keep Daniel Hunter past this year.
07:22And – but you still know what the strength and what you want your defense to be.
07:26Yeah.
07:27And you've got to – you've got to then bring in those guys.
07:30And as you said, that just – that starts to – that starts to make that thing make sense and
07:35roll.
07:35Yeah, man.
07:36It's going to be interesting.
07:37We've seen D'Amico do, you know, with some middle-of-the-pack, maybe even below middle-of-the-pack
07:42defensive linemen.
07:43We've seen him – we've seen, you know, four, five, six of those guys, you know, execute this scheme that
07:49D'Amico rolls out there.
07:50We've seen them be really good with that heavy rotation.
07:53We've seen them be really good with the high-paid defensive end and the rookie edge rusher that they –
07:58that they ultimately graded him coming out
08:02and knew he was going to be a fit in Will Anderson.
08:04And if they could do that again, I think in terms of your down four, boy, that would be –
08:10I wouldn't be mad at it at all.
08:11I've said it from jump.
08:12I love D'Amico Ryan's going there.
08:16The safety opposite Kalen Bullock, an interior defensive lineman, or the edge rusher that is going to be opposite Will
08:25Anderson when he's making all the money,
08:26I would have no problem with that being the most premium pick in this draft with that number 28 overall.
08:30No problem at all.
08:31Yeah, someone text in not happening, best guard if possible.
08:36I would just let you know in this mock draft, and I'll be honest, it's not just this one,
08:41but there's not even a guard that's going in the first round.
08:46Right.
08:46Like, I mean, I get your thoughts on that.
08:49Maybe one of these tackles or whatever.
08:50There are a lot of tackles that are going in the first round.
08:53There's a tackle going right behind them.
08:56There aren't any guards that I see going in the first round of this draft.
09:02So, to me, I wouldn't want them at 28 to go reach for a lesser player because it is a
09:09position of need, like a guard.
09:12Damn sure not an offensive lineman with their offensive line luck.
09:16To me, if you're sitting there at 28, right, like that's the plan you want to go to?
09:22Because I do.
09:23I like this other text that I'd rather get a stud defensive tackle.
09:26That would make sense.
09:27Maybe you get a D tackle back there.
09:29But if you look at it and, you know, you have Zion Young rated much higher than whoever the next
09:36defensive tackle is,
09:37I want them to get the best football players.
09:40Yeah, for me, that need for need stuff, like that comes in sometimes, but not in that space.
09:46Yeah, I think there's a real opportunity here.
09:49We talk a lot about the offensive side of the football for Houston, but I think there's a real opportunity.
09:53We do talk, you know, about draft need versus best player available.
09:58I do think that this year that best player available part is going to be a big piece, right?
10:06This defense is already great, right?
10:08So, when you start talking best player available, which guy is mature enough and developed enough
10:15to be a plug-and-play rotational piece immediately?
10:19And that's how you've got to view this thing on defense.
10:22If it comes your time and a Zion Young is still on the board and the other D tackles that
10:28you like are gone,
10:29then Zion Young is the choice, right?
10:31I mean, it really becomes – and maybe some people are like, no joke, right?
10:35I'm just not a big all-or-nothing we're going to draft for best available.
10:42I don't typically subscribe to that.
10:44I do think the Texans are good enough at this point.
10:48Yeah, and where they are.
10:49I think they're good enough at this point where they can draft best available,
10:53maybe with the exception of corner.
10:56They can draft best available and bring in a player that helps this team immediately.
11:04I mean, I think they're in a spot where best available makes sense,
11:09whereas I don't know if in the past it's always been that way.
11:13In fact, I'll be honest with you.
11:15I've always believed in drafting for need more so than best available.
11:19Yeah.
11:19But this is a year where, boy, the Texans are primed and ready.
11:23Draft a guy that can help you immediately.
11:26Yeah.
11:27Yeah.
11:27And outside of the Texans thing where them drafting the strongest –
11:31arguably the strongest position they have on the team.
11:34In this –
11:36Charles Davis has Jeremiah Love slipping to 18 with the Vikings.
11:42Whew.
11:43If he slips beyond 15, I don't know how the Texans don't try to move.
11:47I was going to say, like, we could talk about, you know, sit back and all that,
11:53but if he's in within that type of range, like, he does seem like a real fit
12:02to what they're looking to try to get and to get it cheap.
12:06That also will be dependent on what they've done in free agency, right?
12:09Yeah.
12:09Free agency would have led to that.
12:11But, damn it, boy, I don't know, boy.
12:12If he would have dropped down there, whew.
12:14Well, as I've said before, I think the quickest way to help this offense,
12:20really, which means the quickest way to help the team, if we're being honest,
12:23the quickest way for the Houston Texans to be a better football team
12:27is for them to hit in the draft, in the first round, on a running back,
12:32which we know that would be Jeremiah Love if anybody, if they get the shot
12:36and be aggressive in taking that shot,
12:38or in free agency with one of the top two or three guys.
12:40Like, that's the quickest way to, for sure, without a doubt, help the run game,
12:46which in turn is going to help the quarterback,
12:48which is going to help the second-year play caller,
12:50which is going to lean into exactly what D'Amico Rines wants to do,
12:54which is run the football, stay ahead of the chains, minimize risk,
12:57chew the clock, you know, I mean, dominate time of possession,
13:00don't turn the football over, protect the quarterback.
13:03Like, that is the quickest and most surefire way
13:06to help this football team take the next step.
13:08And if they choose to get aggressive in the draft
13:11because Jeremiah Love is slipping
13:12and they believe that Jeremiah Love is that guy,
13:16if they need to spend a little bit more money to go get a,
13:20what's my man's name, Walker, Kenneth Walker,
13:22or, you know, hell, I like the kid that's in Dallas.
13:26All signs are pointing towards him going back to Dallas, but I like him.
13:29You know, there's two or three backs out there that are available
13:32that I don't have a problem with them overspending and getting aggressive
13:36and even getting in a battle, you know, and playing more than they should.
13:41Like, to me, that's the one spot where –
13:43He's a special player, too.
13:45Which one?
13:45Love.
13:46Oh, yeah.
13:46He's a special player that would –
13:49and you're not training up to get a quarterback,
13:50so it's not going to be –
13:52Well, that guy immediately makes your offensive line
13:55that everybody's talking about better.
13:56That guy immediately makes your quarterback better.
13:58That guy immediately makes your end, tight end room
14:01that's injury prone better.
14:02Before you ever make any moves, that guy makes the group better.
14:07Not to mention Woody Marks being available in no-huddle situations,
14:12in two-minute situations, end-of-game situations,
14:15third-down situations, being completely committed to that.
14:18Your running back room beyond just that individual player
14:21is significantly better.
14:22Yep.
14:23From the text line, F-drafting defense.
14:25If that running back price from Notre Dame is available,
14:27they should take him.
14:28He would play and help day one.
14:31If you missed it, we talked about this earlier this week,
14:33a little promo running on the station.
14:35I disagree with that.
14:37I think they should – I think they should draft on defense,
14:41and they should sign more proven commodities on offense
14:47because they can afford to, and I trust them,
14:53to develop defensive players more than I do offensive players.
14:57We can go look over the list over there on that side of the ball
15:01and see how many guys they've been able to develop.
15:03Kalen Bullock – Bullock, excuse me.
15:07Kamari Lasseter, Henry Toa Toa, Tommy Togiai.
15:15Who else am I – I'm sure – I've left some off.
15:18I'm certain.
15:19Everybody will Anderson.
15:20Everybody will touch on the defensive side.
15:22Will Anderson.
15:23With the exception of Christian Harris.
15:24Jalen Petrie has gotten better since he's been over –
15:27you know, they have been able to develop those guys
15:32and find the right ones over there.
15:36I think they should be signing offensive players that they already know
15:40and that they have a track record of what they have done
15:43so they can step in and start going.
15:46So if they get in – if they draft a kid like Zion Young that is young
15:51and you want to develop them to be ready for next year,
15:55I think they can develop them to be ready for next year
15:57and you can see that guy becoming a guy that can step in.
16:01Maybe he's not Daniil Hunter in two years,
16:03but he is somebody that can be a major part of your team and down in the future.
16:07I just trust that they do that better on that side of the ball.
16:10Boy, could you imagine if they hit on that guy the one year that you've got Will Anderson
16:14and call it this kid and Daniil Hunter in the rotation off the edge,
16:19if they do hit and this guy is a – he's cut from the same cloth of Will Anderson,
16:24could you imagine that one year next year when you've got all three of those horses
16:27coming off the edge?
16:28Yeah.
16:29Yeah, it's something, man.
16:31Yeah, they – yeah, I hear what you're saying.
16:34I know the immediate thought is, man, we need help offensively.
16:36We need help.
16:37We need help.
16:37But, I don't know.
16:39They'll ride with that.
