00:00My name's Mike Rowe.
00:02And this is my job.
00:05I explore the country looking for people who aren't afraid to get dirty.
00:09This is a boy.
00:10Very impressive.
00:11Hard-working men and women who earn an honest living.
00:13Hey, yo, look for tracks. Look for tracks.
00:15How do I look on the lamp?
00:16I'm tired already.
00:18Doing the kinds of jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us.
00:22No one likes to be sterilized.
00:25Now, get ready to get dirty.
00:32Coming up on Dirty Jobs.
00:34I only have one word, man. Bleach.
00:36Somebody gives up their underpants to give me a leg up installing lightning rods on a hot roof.
00:42Oh, yeah. That underwear's handy.
00:44But considering the heights we're working at, extra underwear may come in handy for all sorts of reasons.
00:51Then...
00:51We gotta dig a ten-foot hole?
00:53Lightning's gotta go somewhere.
00:54I'm not. You are.
00:56Why not down a hole?
00:58And later...
00:58It's not good to stay up here too long.
01:00No, it isn't.
01:01Can't pass out.
01:02Working in 120 degrees...
01:04I'm just so sick of not having an angle.
01:06It makes me cranky.
01:10Oh, God.
01:12I'm just so sick of not having an angle.
01:13Someone's gotta go somewhere.
01:18It's not good to stay up here.
01:24You know what?
01:25I'm just so sick of not having an angle.
01:33I'm just so sick of not having an angle.
01:44well there's the sky in southern mississippi and there's a castle behind us and this is robert
01:48and we're in loosdale loosdale mississippi yes sir are there a lot of castles in loosdale
01:53this is the only one i know of mike okay uh robert makes his living installing lightning rods
02:00that's correct and that's a lightning rod yes sir somehow or i imagine they'd be bigger
02:06what's it made of it's made of aluminum those are 24 inches and you have to have a 10 inch
02:13minimum
02:13rod length over what you're trying to protect so if your rod is less than 10 inches what that's a
02:19bad
02:19thing you're not in the standard oh that's no good all right so in this part of the in this
02:26part of
02:26the country in mississippi lightning strikes are fairly fairly common yes sir lightning's fairly
02:31common thing around the world 200 strikes per second so your business is pretty good i stay
02:36busy have you seen lightning strike yourself yes i have i don't mean yourself but i mean you personally
02:41witnessed lightning yes i have when i was about uh 12 years old was at my parents carport uh working
02:48on my go-kart and uh you had a go-kart at 12 go-kart a mini bike and a
02:52motorcycle i swear dad i asked you
02:55for all three of those things and all i got was a bb gun it didn't work go ahead all
02:58of a sudden i heard
03:01and uh saw the lightning hit a pine tree about 30 feet away from me and then uh all of
03:06a sudden
03:06these balls about a foot in diameter were floating around three up you saw ball lightning ball lightning
03:13yes sir i'm sorry but i gotta tell you something man i mean in my pre-show research i did
03:17come across
03:18a man reported seeing what only one percent of the population will ever see the rarest form of
03:23lightning called ball lightning it went right past me or possibly even threw me into the living room
03:27then it left the house through a large window where it hit a tree in the backyard ball lightning
03:31is quote scared the pants off folks scared fire out of me so maybe you're destined to be a lightning
03:37guy bill was how hot is a bolt of lightning it's about 50 000 degrees it's like hotter than the
03:43surface of the sun pretty hot how many total 24 inch rods i believe they're gonna be 17
03:48all being through a conductor uh led to grounding rods that's right any special tools i need any
03:56special gear any yeah i wear a couple extra pair of underwear i don't normally tie off and uh you
04:02know
04:02i scoot along the edge there so you wear extra underwear yeah pad just to for for comfort or just
04:08to keep yourself from being burned yeah just to keep from being burned who wants to give up their
04:12underwear dan troy you got the thong it's your dave give me your underwear i gotta take all this
04:20other stuff off i'm already bring it up i can stand here all day man it's good it's only getting
04:24hotter i need underpants ryan go shoot him come on no no we don't want to see that
04:36are these uh relatively dude what what i only have one word man bleach change your life that gray
04:47linen there we go yeah there we go that's cheeky there all right now i'm set let's walk away like
04:53we're about to work it's a look i think you got david he's like man my panties have never looked
05:00so
05:00good the highest point of the 7 500 square foot castle is 43 feet which makes it a prime target
05:09for lightning strikes and a part of the country that's prone to electrical storms a direct lightning
05:14hit on a house can reduce chimneys to rubble start fires fry electrical wire and destroy appliances
05:21and even injures someone using an appliance this is something robert i'm afraid hi sorry no no
05:29wits um so i should get hooked up i can suppose yeah
05:36that is a pretty steep roof now that i think about it it's 10 on 12 roof 10 on 12
05:41what's that mean to 12
05:43degrees sort of no 10 feet of rise for every 12 feet of length across
05:52this goes here
05:52you know just so that you know give it about 10 feet of slack just in case you drop it
06:08that tool belt's
06:09not really designed for carrying tools did you just say the tool belt's not designed for carrying
06:14tools i don't normally use a tool belt mike why do i have this tool just carry that crap up
06:19there
06:19myself i stick it all in my pockets but you can't do that with your safety equipment i can't get
06:25to
06:25your pockets i i realize that plus account of my extra underpants covering my pockets i'm hobbled
06:30you got a better idea oh i've got a whole list of ideas i don't know they're better but i'm
06:35not
06:35sure about wrapping this around my neck wrapped around something i've got a limited number of
06:41appendages we got these things right here these what's that these d-rings you're not going to use
06:45these like no i got no plans to use those i wouldn't stick the drill in there because if the
06:50trigger
06:51depresses oh you know it's going to start spinning my wrap your underwear up yeah i want to see dave's
06:57underpants get wrapped up in a drill yeah i'll cure the tools up there you care there you go me
07:05first
07:05or you first i'll go first i'll follow you all right you follow me this thing's pretty springy
07:12a whole bunch springy kind of scaring me scaling the castle walls with the help of my fancy head
07:22camera you the viewer can share my terror climbing a ladder that feels like it's made of rubber bands
07:35this would be especially exciting with people dumping hot tar on you and shooting arrows
07:42but this is fairly exciting troy made us all safe here you normally wouldn't deal with all this stuff
07:48no no yesterday troy and the crew climbed up on the roof to rig up an elaborate set of safety
07:56ropes
07:57for us to use on the shoot day troy brought all his mountain climbing skills to the task which was
08:02scoffed at by some and completely ignored by robert in fact most of the crew ignored it including troy
08:12finally it was time for troy to test the rig the ultimate test of course being the barsky horrific
08:20fear of heights test then ropes were tossed down to be firmly attached to our vehicles this morning
08:27the whole process received a patronizing endorsement from our snickering host at that point safety first
08:34safety first so if one person falls yes will he drag the rest of us with him no no so
08:43the worst you
08:43can fall is the length of the rope that's tied to you to this correct okay okay back to the
08:52job at hand
08:53everyone's waiting for a terrified barsky to climb the wobbly trick ladder which is cinching up every orifice
08:59in his body very nice considering the shocking inadequacy of the ladder it's remarkable the whole
09:12crew made it up in one piece this is your primary safety line there's plenty of ropes to tie into
09:22don't tie into the purple rope because purple rope slack and it's not working right now this is
09:28gonna be annoying until you actually get out to where you're gonna be doing your work it's annoying
09:32now because yeah she got this big thing the safety lines have been carefully tested for one person at
09:37a time let's see what happens when the whole crew's hooked up right well the first thing we need to
09:44do
09:44is uh i'm gonna let you go to the near end all right you're gonna pull the tape measure out
09:49and i'm gonna
09:50pull it to the other side and you're not breathing okay so we you know we want to be as
09:55safe as we can
09:55but you couldn't function right doing this no it slows you down to nothing it's just a snail's face
10:03but it's good to be safe i have fallen off the roof you have oh yeah you got hurt twice
10:10and the second time then it kind of hurt a little bit what happened did you break anything
10:14i didn't break anything well that's good about 22 feet that's you fall 22 feet don't break anything
10:20that's good it is a unique relationship we have with safety it really is fyi down your foot your left
10:27foot is maybe an inch from the thing there well that is hard to watch remedy yeah that's where the
10:39underwear got went handy right there don't wait why are you moving good job don't talk to me don't
10:49talk to me i'm tired she's ready how long would it take you to do this job we weren't here
10:56probably
10:58yeah 15 minutes yeah we're gonna turn a 15 minute job in eight hours coming up doesn't make sense when
11:07you can't figure out what you're doing i don't get it communication is critical go ahead and level
11:12it up i think you said mon who will want and later you're gonna operate a jackhammer from the latter
11:18i destroy my back but gain two inches in arm length
11:32okay found this online this is a lightning trivia test i not only have the questions and the correct
11:38answers i also have the percentage of people who got the answers right would you like to play
11:42sure you would what's that dave want to play a little lightning trivia come on over this looks great
11:47dave loves knowledge he can't refuse a challenge we'll call this the lightning round
11:55honestly you can't script that sort of thing lightning kills an average of 50 people per year
12:00in the united states true or false 50 people per year i think you're correct lightning actually
12:08kills an average of 73 people per year in the united states 35 of the people answered that
12:14correctly so you're doing very well i was gonna actually take the under i was i thought it'd be
12:18less no no 70 uh 73 people per year besides falling becoming permanently bow-legged is the biggest hazard
12:29with walking on a roof oh yeah that underwear is handy so you want me to take the uh yes
12:38sir got it got it
12:40the distance between lightning rods is based on their height we need to take a measurement so these
12:46particular rods will be no further than 25 feet apart
12:51dave i'm gonna try not to unhook yours thanks
12:57to the tip yeah to the tip over there all right let me have it
13:05so two up here or three then two
13:09the truth's starting to get a little warm isn't it yeah yeah it does get a little warm okay
13:15a lot of things have burned my butt but nothing like a roof it can get up to 150 degrees
13:25it'll drill us a hole let's sit right in here so while you're drilling you just want to keep it
13:32at
13:33an angle even with the roof pitch you know something like this all right
13:49that's it you got your uh lightning rod on i believe i do
13:54all right i'll show you how to do this one and then you can do the next one
14:00i'll just take a little bit of this caulk and do the same thing to the bottom side of
14:04the apron wire stick it in the hole
14:11we can just lay this just like that only run a little bit of sealant right here on top of
14:17the
14:17nut where it meets the washer right all right all right that's it that's pretty simple on the number
14:25two you drill a hole and stick the rod in so we're gonna do it again approximately 20 uh 24
14:32feet
14:32that way that's correct and then in the attic yeah sure
14:56all right all right so we've measured it right to here right in there
15:19so all i have to do when you tighten that on this end is point this straight up and tighten
15:27this
15:27and use your level so like i would do this look for that little bubble there
15:32then move 45 degrees and do it this way right here that way it's leveled that way and this way
15:40all right i'll give it a shot you can come out and check my work when you're done okay great
15:48hey robert am i going to be able to hear you you'll be using your outside voice right
15:52just bang on the roof when the washer the neoprene washer extends to the edge of the stainless steel
15:59washer all right
16:05kind of warm up here isn't it
16:09i didn't understand the purpose of his second measurement to tell you the truth
16:12didn't make any sense to me i mean like that i get it straight up and down
16:22okay he's definitely tightening on that end feel the tightening
16:29that ought to be pretty close to it mike how's that look seems like it could be tighter tighter okay
16:36now i suspect i'm doing the right thing by just holding the rod as he tightens it i don't know
16:41how's that look right there yeah that feels pretty good
16:44i don't really know go ahead and level it out you bet you didn't hear a word that time i
16:50can
16:51barely hear the guy when he's right next to me the odds of me hearing him through a roof
16:54kind of impossible okay okay i'm gonna go ahead and set this ladder up over here
17:01this is the magnetic side of the level i know you use that and there is even he measured it
17:08another way
17:09though he wanted it what like that doesn't make sense i don't get it and why is it important that
17:15the lightning rod be perfectly perfectly straight you know a 50 000 degree piece of lightning arcing out
17:23of a thunderhead is is it's not going to care too much whether it's one way or with another
17:29maybe it's purely an aesthetic reason you know all i know is when i take this level and i put
17:35it right
17:35here that's plum i mean this is the only other direction and if i look at that and but that's
17:41insane so we'll now go to the other end of the roof where i assume but can't be sure that
17:47robert uh is
17:49i can only assume
18:18is on his way to uh this this area right here immediately underneath me
18:25how's it going robert i know it's hot up there isn't it i think you said ma
18:29on average the earth experiences nearly 1.4 billion lightning flashes every year
18:37that's an average of 44 flashes every second 35 million of those flashes strike the ground
18:52a single lightning strike can kill several people who are in physical contact with one another or in
18:59close enough range that the strike can spread out over the ground true or false
19:07i think that's true you're correct this is especially dangerous at sporting events this could include
19:13spectators sitting on the same bleacher seat or football players in a huddle uh 88 of the people
19:20got that right so again you're in good company has that happened has what happened i mean they say it
19:25can
19:25happen but did it haven't happen like is there talking like what football team got electrocuted
19:30this isn't how the game is played i ask questions and i provide corroboration on the answer i don't
19:35have uh this is not a deep dive into the uh internet alice trebek you're not no actually i am
19:42no no he
19:42did you provide more it's all on the back of his cards he doesn't know anything at all well i
19:47don't
19:47i'm not saying anything well look i mean he's also provided with cards with more information i don't have
19:52that somewhere below me it sounds like robert's talking but i can't make heads or tails of it
20:00how's that spare pair of underwear doing you mike i say keep on tightening that thing
20:09the rod's alive i tell you alive
20:18that good a little more one more that's pretty good is that good mike sure maybe it is maybe it's
20:27not i don't know that's pretty close all right so once again it's level there but i don't know how
20:38to know if it's level anywhere else but it looks it looks pretty daggone straight to me
20:47so at a glance does it look all right no it's a little off mike how you know i was
20:53i was confused
20:54by the level if i do this actually line up this way first okay if you take your wrench and
21:02spin this
21:03clockwise just a little bit and watch your little bubble there
21:10you'll see where it say oh we're too far right right in there right in there it's good okay and
21:17then this way pretty close so that way you're just moving the whole thing but this way you were moving
21:23the wrench so there's level all the way around the whole lightning rod perfectly level all right have
21:30you tighten this up yet yeah i did okay piece of cake yeah i should have wore my gloves up
21:38here it's
21:39getting pretty hot maybe dave's got a pair he can lend you yeah i don't see a problem with this
21:45one
21:46the ligand rod is loose so what am i doing so you're gonna hold this stainless steel rod
21:52uh-huh are you we can do it together yeah sure twist it okay yeah that's good that's good
22:05it's still out a little way all right yeah well right there right there looks good now let me ask
22:13you something what difference does it make if these things are perfectly level i don't know i guess i'm a
22:18perfectionist i mean it just looks good it's just more aesthetic i mean lightning doesn't care right
22:24no lightning doesn't care yeah i mean i i realize the electricity is attracted to it but well lightning
22:30you know when it actually comes from the ground up it forms what's called a leader comes off here
22:38and it's actually like a piece of wire from here to the cloud and once it makes it up to
22:43the cloud from
22:44the ground then it forms that path and comes down and hits this the bolt is actually only about a
22:50inch something like that right diameter and it hits the tip of the rod all right so now what we
22:57have to
22:57run the wire from where our ground rod location is we're going to make a loop we're going to come
23:02up
23:02this wall come up this ridge of the roof interconnected with the lightning rod so we coming back up here
23:08nope we're done man oh man am i confused all right perhaps if i hadn't been here to help today
23:15the
23:15required 17 rods in the roof would be there thanks to me we did too all right back down here
23:21on solid
23:22ground at last that was exciting up there thank you you were i learned a whole bunch that's great this
23:28is
23:28your son yes and his name is daniel daniel mike it's good to meet you uh you brought him along
23:33because
23:34you're tired of working he's ground rod expert ground rod what is involved daniel we're gonna
23:39dig a hole obviously we're gonna dig a trench coming off of the wall to a hole where you're
23:44gonna place the ground rod and what's a ground rod look like it'll be that big long copper rod behind
23:49you this is a ground rod yes sir all right and to save some time the the walls are already
23:57sort of
23:58wired with what it's wired with the copper wire that we're going to tie on to the ground rod with
24:04the ground rod clamp i'm not an expert is this the ground rod clamp yes it is all right so
24:12this
24:13is going to clamp onto the ground rod the ground rod is going to go into the hole it's going
24:17to clamp
24:18the ground rod with the copper wire where's the copper wire it is behind the air vent we have copper
24:25wire oh
24:30nice action dave so why don't you tell me what happens rather than me just guessing because
24:36there's only a half hour segment you'd fit the wire opposite to the bolts and then you would place the
24:43ground rod there so that way the bolts are touching the ground rod how much of this rod needs to
24:48be
24:49underground all of it wait we gotta dig a 10-foot hole uh it's a two-foot hole and we're
24:54just gonna
24:54use the jackhammer to oh and then just pound it in yes well that's a relief i thought we're gonna
24:59dig a 10-foot hole this wide i'm so we're gonna be here a very long time how old are
25:05you daniel i'm
25:0618. you finished with uh high school just recently finished congratulations what's next you know
25:12university of alabama who are you studying chemical and biological engineering but today we're digging a
25:17hole today we're digging a hole some days are better than others coming up in a dirty jobs first
25:24instead of our perspective on dirt this is troy if you didn't interview before he has many little
25:28cameras we get the dirt's perspective on us where else would you see a shot like this i mean seriously
25:43if you're in the mountains and lightning begins to strike you
25:47seems funny you should quickly get below the tree line and get into a grove of small trees
25:53if you live i suppose
25:58well if there's higher trees the smaller trees yeah i mean i'd do that so you'd say true yeah
26:04that's correct make absolutely sure that you're not standing next to a tall tree when you're in the
26:08mountains if you're standing next to a tall tree you're more likely to get struck by lightning than if you're
26:14in a group of small trees but ideally the trees should be taller than you no matter what their
26:20size you've ever been to sequoias yes the second largest sequoia washington tree was struck by
26:25lightning no longer the second tallest went there once saw it was beautiful then i came back two
26:29years later it was gone this is not germane to the game it's more information it's interesting but
26:34it's not really going toward your score all right do that chemical engineering you said yes sir how
26:45come i just like chemistry you're going alabama and it's close to home yeah the heck is this i think
26:53we just unearthed something i think it's the the hoof of a plastic deer maybe now is anybody in the
26:59family going to carry on the tradition i don't know well we'll see how that chemical engineering
27:04thing goes yeah all right so i think we're deep enough let's widen out the hole a little widen the
27:17hole yes we're gonna put one end in here this is troy if you didn't understand before he has many
27:25little
27:30cameras what do you think now we're gonna place the ground rod in all right you're gonna operate a
27:37jackhammer from a ladder i'm not you are pain in the neck not a step good thank you
27:50ready i'm ready ground rods need to be deep enough to safely
27:55dissipate the electrical charge when lightning strikes okay
28:09that's as far as i can do it you want the ground rod to be down so that seven inches
28:14is sticking up
28:15from the bottom of that hole you're suggesting then that we widen this dig the hole out
28:38you're gonna like that i think it's good now i would guess we take that copper cable and tie it
28:46to it somehow that's where we're gonna need that half inch wrench to any idea where that might be
28:53somewhere journey with me as i search for a half inch wrench
28:59i took off a tool belt
29:03and i put it right there and now somebody's moved my tool belt probably somebody in my crew you don't
29:10have a half inch wrench on you the king of the castle just happened to be in perfect
29:17i'll bring it back cleaner than i got it he granted me a half inch wrench
29:23it's gonna go straight through like that i got you put the end with the bolts
29:27to the ground rod got it let's just slip it straight on like that straight on
29:34where else would you see a shot like this i mean seriously
29:42you're gonna tighten the bolts onto it so you hear it squeaking hear what squeak barsky or the bolt
29:47i guess either well you can't even get it on there
29:54you hear that it's just squeaking it's squeaking
30:00the grounding rod has a special weave that keeps it and the walls it runs through cool during a
30:06lightning strike the tip of the lightning rod takes all the heat actually melting a little bit every time
30:11the bolt hits it all right so so we've got the copper attached to the ground rod and the ground
30:19rod buried but what we don't have is the we don't have the attachment in the attic going up to
30:23the uh
30:24to the rods themselves so i'm gonna go do that good luck in college i guess good luck forever
30:31good luck forever okay coming up oh my god why is it going backwards robert in an attic that's like
30:39being in hell you hit the button i didn't hit that button i feel an evil force come over me
30:45the devil hit that button
30:57telephone lines are extremely dangerous in a lightning storm true or false
31:06the answer is true very dangerous along with phone lines you should stay away from televisions
31:14electrical outlets and showers or baths until the storm has passed 85 percent of the people got that
31:20right so this is a this is surprising not just that you're wrong but that so many others were were
31:27correct that is surprising it's surprising it's surprising feels like an attic yes sir nice and warm
31:37so what's the plan we're going to go ahead and pull this wire mike and uh pull it downstairs and
31:44meet
31:44our copper conductor where you just drove the ground rod and this is the main loop conductor oh that
31:50it's aluminum at what point does that uh aluminum wire become uh the copper it'll be down there on
31:59the first floor the copper's fine in the ground aluminum can't be aluminum can't be anywhere near
32:03the ground that's correct all right so what can i do well you're going to grab the wire here
32:09go ahead and pull this wire and i'll keep it coming off to you let's put it up above right
32:15here mike
32:15yeah right this guy yeah you can actually just see right through right through here
32:26it goes all the way to the first floor right yeah all right that looks good all right should have
32:31plenty of wire down there warm in the attic
32:42the aluminum wire has to be fed all the way down the wall to ultimately connect with the copper wire
32:47on the first floor that's connected to the ground rod
32:52ground level we're going to need to probably get a ladder that's up by the attic
32:56true i'm going to go get the ladder you want to come with me i think it's going to be
32:59great
33:00maybe it's just me but there seems to be a lot of time spent getting things we
33:04might have gotten in preparation for the job at hand oh whoa
33:09let me see okay so we're going to stick it on the copper wire for me it's going to go
33:20on this
33:20side yes sir slip it in that hole a little more we're going to get it good and tight
33:31is it critical that these two go in there is that that's a shame i'd like to cut those off
33:35so each one of these little individual strands in here is relevant here you want to use this
33:40smashes together sometimes there we go
33:55whoa that's done
34:26all right there's our wire now we're going all the way up there right we're going to run the cable
34:32so the beam right there clamping it off as we go yeah every three feet that's a lot more clamps
34:50it's not good to stay up here too long no it isn't can't pass out with temperatures approaching 130
34:57degrees in the attic taking a short break to prevent a massive heat stroke seemed like a good thing to
35:01do
35:10oh
35:11how's that look sporty
35:17there's no slack
35:27oh my god why is it going backwards robert what the hell you hit the button man i didn't hit
35:32that
35:32button the devil hit that button
35:38yes i'm right on the verge of saying some terrible words is it really tough yeah well look i just
35:43got
35:44no angle i'm just so sick of not having an angle why don't you flip it up and stick it
35:47in the two
35:48by four then on the bottom of the two by four you mean this guy
35:53i have to redo the ladder
36:04i don't know what they're paying you but whatever it is you should get it raised man
36:16coming up we'll go get you another ranch mike all right we'll be right back robert takes a hike
36:22what if he's left a long hike i would honestly if i were him i just leave
36:37lightning strike survivors often have difficulty with short-term memory true or false i don't recall
36:45the funny thing is you should could you repeat the question
36:51lightning strike survivors often have difficulty with short-term memory true or false
36:56can you repeat the question please funny uh the answer is true you also have problems with coding
37:04i used to know that accessing old information multitasking distractibility irritability and
37:10experienced personality change how many times you've been struck honestly i've been struck by two
37:14minutes countless countless
37:22all right so i can reach the bolt this screws up on the bottom after you put the nut on
37:29the threaded rod
37:33all right take the other part the top plate slide that on in the washer then the nut it just
37:39slides
37:40right on it doesn't screw on yeah right all right just almost seems impossible oh come on come on you
37:50yes good all right reach down and grab this short piece of wire okay all right the other connector
37:55has a slot that goes in there you need to get those two lined up do i put this in
38:01between them before
38:01i line them up line them up first just slide it right in that little hole right there like that
38:06yeah oh all right sure okay it's it's okay to tighten up yeah just hold the connector and hold it
38:13still
38:14and then tighten your uh oh that's not gonna happen that's impossible you need another wrench i need
38:19another hand i needed the light i need another body i need another brain aside from that i'm perfectly
38:25equipped for this job it's i mean i can't even begin to reach it let me go get you another
38:30wrench mike
38:30all right i'll be right back that castle's kicking my ass
38:41i don't know where exactly the wrench was that robert needed maybe in town what if he just left
38:49i would honestly if i were him i just leave
39:03okay so robert yes let me ask you something the next thing to do is to attach our wire to
39:10that
39:11other wire with this t
39:18okay i'm getting angry because i don't know what i'm doing is there a way to get this this nail's
39:22been
39:22sliding through my vertebrae for the last i don't know seems like a long time
39:30okay now six to seven inches up i hear you but i just don't know i just don't know what
39:36that means
39:36six to seven you need to slide your clamp yeah back the other way what way back towards your other
39:42loop
39:42passenger six to seven inches up from that other hole stick that yeah onto the main conductor this
39:49now around the other way the bolts are now facing away from me you need to keep that wire straight
39:54it's
39:55going to be going to these other beams right here the top of the t you got to slide on
39:59the main
39:59conductor first that's going to go like that but you got to flip it around yeah 180 degrees so
40:05the bolts are facing you all right now i got it slide it on on the main conductor first you
40:10should
40:10have a socket in your tool pouch that fits that bolt i don't know where that went man i really
40:16don't
40:16is this the best tool for the job socket wrench is man is there any way a socket wrench could
40:22materialize you want to use the socket wrench yeah that'd be that'd be super you have to adjust
40:29it oh of course i'm well no i'll do that up here okay dear lord please help me do this
40:39yeah it doesn't that's probably going the wrong way oh my god this is turning into the most really
40:45seriously one of the most miserable jobs we've done who's with me gentlemen anyone alive
40:53i'll tighten you want this robert it looks pretty tight i gotta be honest with you
40:56pretty damn tight no wait what about the rest of all this
41:00that's gonna run over to the next one
41:08this is what we call the big goodbye by the end of the day and i say this because we
41:14won't be here
41:15to bear witness but that wire is going to stretch all the way across and you're going to hook it
41:20up
41:20again with another t thing correct run it down again the far side of the house that's right loop it
41:25back
41:25and attach it to the same uh copper wire it's now attached to the ground to a new copper wire
41:31i want
41:32to thank you for your hospitality for your knowledge for what you do you know all that lightning flying
41:36around real i'll leave you to it i'll let myself out of the castle thank you sir they're remote right
