00:00Birmingham City Council planners have been asked to approve revised plans for the spaces around Curzon Street Station.
00:08That's the new city centre HS2 terminus.
00:11The scheme covers how people arrive, move through the area and use squares, steps, gardens and routes.
00:18Council officers said the design would bring together two public realm schemes already approved in 2020,
00:24while refining the layout around Station Square.
00:27Curzon Promenade, Curzon Square and the Southern Approach.
00:32Changes will also affect planting, walls, paving, cycling and tram connections.
00:37The main arrival space is planned with natural stone paving, lighting, seating, gardens and terraces.
00:44Another area, described by the area as Curzon Promenade, is intended to provide a greener link with a parkland field,
00:51joining key spaces around the station site.
00:54At the heart of the changes is a revised public setting for a major transport hub
01:00that has long been presented as central to Birmingham's regeneration.
01:04Officers say the proposals would create robust, characterful spaces,
01:08but the final decision rests with councillors.
01:11High Speed 2 says the station and its surroundings should become a landmark destination,
01:17while the council report says there are no compelling reasons for refusal.
01:21Birmingham's planning committee is due to consider the application on Tuesday 16th April formally.
