00:00Plans for new housing near Wellington's proposed railway station are taking a fresh direction.
00:07The original outlying permission was secured by West of England Developments in May last year
00:13for up to 200 homes on Ninehead Road, but it is now Bloor Homes South West that is leading revised
00:21proposals. Bloor is consulting the public on delivering a maximum of 161 homes within the site.
00:31The designs include a mix of family housing, mainly two-storey, with some taller homes in key spots.
00:38Materials are planned to reflect the look of traditional properties in Wellington,
00:43using mainly red brick alongside lighter detailing. Parking would be in line with council standards,
00:50including space for visitors. The development will link into walking and cycling routes
00:56along the Spine Road and towards the Taunton Road. Greenspace will remain part of the scheme,
01:02with plans for more than 200 trees and new hedgerows. Land nearest the station would be used for
01:10commercial premises under a separate application. A Section 106 agreement sets out contributions to
01:18local services. These include more than half a million pounds for new school places, support for medical
01:25facilities, sports pitches and walking and cycling links, as well as ÂŁ10,000 for new allotments.
01:33The developer is active across the region, with schemes already underway in Bridgewater,
01:38Wool-Avington and Taunton. No target date has yet been set by the Department for Transport.
