00:00Bilston Town Centre could, in the not-too-distant future, look a lot nicer.
00:05That's if plans by City of Wolverhampton Council get the go-ahead.
00:09The proposals would turn a patch of gravel, currently home to the town's temporary outdoor market,
00:14into a greener, more welcoming space.
00:17Trees and plants would line the area, new seating would be added,
00:21and children would get a new play space.
00:23There would also be room for mobile food traders, public art, exhibitions, performances and community events.
00:30The link would run from the High Street through Pinfold Streetcar Park
00:34and across the Black Country route towards Burt Williams Leisure Centre.
00:39Council bosses say work will begin once traders move back to the new market later this summer.
00:45Councillor Chris Burden, responsible for city development,
00:49said the plans aim to make Bilston a better environment for everyone,
00:53especially young people.
00:54These improvements are part of a wider £20m, decade-long programme to upgrade the town,
01:01including revamping the High Street, improving parks and play areas,
01:05bringing back Bilston Carnival and building a new health and wellbeing hub.
01:10The council has said local feedback helped shape the plans,
01:14which aim to create a safer, cleaner and more vibrant Bilston for residents.
01:18The wider regeneration programme also promises brighter streets,
01:22new benches, CCTV, public art and safety bollards.
01:27Work will begin once the market moves back this summer.
01:29Have a great day in the next moment.
