The legendary Greek hero leads a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece.

ABOUT THE FILM:
Greek myths, especially those involving courageous navigators—who defied the wrath of the gods themselves and unknown seas inhabited by ferocious monsters—are at the genesis not only of the traditional figure of the hero, but also of the monster itself. It is not surprising, therefore, that Ray Harryhausen, a producer and special effects director famous for creating stop-motion monsters for cinema, was so drawn to this type of story. Harryhausen created creatures for works such as Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977, which, although not based on Greek mythology, shares many of its characteristics), Clash of the Titans (1981), and of course, his most famous work, Jason and the Argonauts (1963).

Jason and the Argonauts is a production that has aged very well overall. Without great dramatic pretensions, Don Chaffey's film successfully fulfills its main objective of entertaining, and serves as a brilliant showcase for the beautiful work of the brilliant Harryhausen. Rarely have the monsters of Greek mythology been brought to the screen with such passion.
