00:01In Grenada, Project Polaris was officially launched with the construction of a 250-bed hospital aimed at modernizing the health
00:08system in the country as part of Vision 75 project.
00:13Grenada has officially launched Project Polaris, a major healthcare initiative aimed at transforming the country's medical infrastructure through the construction
00:23of a new climate-resilient hospital.
00:26Prime Minister Deacon Mitchell described the groundbreaking as historic, noting that incremental upgrades to the existing facility are no longer
00:36sufficient.
00:37For centuries, perhaps dating as far back as 1773, the colonial hospital, built initially by the French, which is now
00:50our general hospital, has been the silent watchman over St. George's.
00:55But for too long, we have been trying to practice 21st century medicine in a 19th century shell.
01:04The project will deliver a new 250-bed hospital, replacing the current facility with a modern, purpose-built institution in
01:12a more accessible location.
01:14Officials say the initiative will expand access to specialized care, diagnostics, and emergency services, while reducing the need for overseas
01:24treatment.
01:24But today's ceremony does not exist in a vacuum.
01:29It is a cornerstone of Vision 75, our national roadmap to transform Grenada by the 75th anniversary of our independence.
01:41That vision is to transform Grenada into a resilient, inclusive, innovation-driven economy by 2050.
01:51But most importantly, it is a vision for a healthy nation.
02:03The project forms part of the wider Hopeville Medical City and is expected to take approximately three years to complete.
02:11Officials say it will also create jobs and strengthen healthcare training through international partnerships.
