00:06as the U.S. government reportedly discusses the idea of withdrawing from the organization after NATO allies refused to join
00:12the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
00:15NATO Chief Mark Rutte held on Wednesday a private meeting with President Donald Trump with the expectation of convincing the
00:21U.S. head of state of staying in the NATO alliance.
00:23Ahead of the meeting, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said that during the Middle East conflict, NATO had been
00:29tested and they failed as allies declined to contribute military forces to the war.
00:34For his part, Rutte described the meeting as very frank and very open despite clear disagreements highlighting European allies' contributions
00:41to the organization.
00:53And after the meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump shared a post on his account on TruthSocial where he raised
00:58alarms among European allies by criticizing NATO and at the same time fighting to siege Greenland.
01:03He wrote, NATO wasn't there when we needed them and they won't be there if we need them again.
01:08Remember Greenland? That big, poorly run piece of ice?
01:11This comes after NATO allies declined to contribute military forces to the war despite Trump's pressure in the last few
01:17weeks.
