Luxury doesn’t protect you. Especially not in a Côte d’Azur hotel where your biggest problem is supposed to be your own reflection. Then the woman next door vanishes without a dramatic knock or a sensible explanation, and a retired 70-year-old spy who used to handle threats for a living realizes the past has a habit of showing up uninvited.

What follows isn’t just “mystery,” it’s a weird little blender of filmmaking, memories, and straight-up mental noise. Old adversaries feel close again, but the movie also keeps asking the nastier question: is he hunting clues, or is he making a story so he doesn’t have to face what’s really there?

It’s stylish, sly, and occasionally a bit ridiculous in the way only smart paranoia can be. 6.2 on IMDb, 77 on Metascore. So, yes, it’s worth the side-eye.

In einem schicken Hotel an der Côte d’Azur ist die schlimmste Gefahr nicht der Champagner. Es ist die Nachbarin. Eine mysteriöse Frau verschwindet einfach aus dem Zimmer nebenan, und der charmante Ex-Spion (70, gemütlich im Rollkragenalter angekommen) merkt: Sein Kopf steckt wieder in alten Fällen. Nur dass diesmal nicht alles nach Plan läuft. Erinnerung, Filmemachen und ein Hauch Wahnsinn kippen ineinander, bis der Luxusflur plötzlich aussieht wie ein Drehset für die eigenen Ausreden.

Das Ganze fühlt sich an wie ein Krimi, der sich einen Moment lang als Kunstfilm verkleidet. Spoiler-freundlich gesagt: Wer denkt, er habe alles im Griff, wird ziemlich schnell eines Besseren belehrt. Und ja. Das Hotel ist schön. Trotzdem wird’s unheimlich.
