00:00So as we get older, this hyoid bone drops down and back due to these suprahyoid muscles under
00:06our jaw weakening and shrinking. And this can contribute to swallowing issues and this saggy
00:11turkey neck. Eww! Here are a couple of simple exercises to strengthen those suprahyoid muscles
00:16and try to raise that bone. First is the sitar exercise. Chin tuck head flexion against resistance
00:22with a ball or towel. You're just pressing your chin down into that ball or towel, bending your
00:27head forward. 30 repetitions of this one. Second is called the shaker exercise, which is lifting your
00:32head up, trying to look at your toes while you're lying on the floor. 30 of these once a day.
00:37Third
00:38is the submandibular push exercises, which have been shown to be the most effective, where you try to
00:42bulge those muscles under your jaw while keeping your lips and teeth together. Try pushing your
00:48tongue down and back into the bottom of your mouth to trigger a stronger muscle contraction. Hold for
00:52three, ten repetitions.
