00:43account savage that's a direct shot man it is i had to make sure gator that is well done right

02:03and it's scary because i do believe that you can look at how one season ended and how the next

02:11begins and say all right a team turned a corner or a team started a nosedive and it continued that's
02:19this is a nosedive offensively that continued well the two weeks into it right basically and
02:26the first week there were no bats except for like one inning of one game where they really showed up
02:34uh and this the second week has been better but it's not good still but i think wasn't there ops

02:41the first week of the season was like in the 6 30 range or something like that now it's 6

02:45is not a little bit it's not good but it's it's better than what it was do you know where

02:49baseball i i don't i imagine bottom eight it's 13th oh their run scored at 47 is 15th middle of

03:01road they're they're middle of the pack baseball team their team batting average is 232 that's 14th
03:12so by points of comparison early in the season pitching is kind of dominated hitting everywhere
03:22now that's not to say that detroit doesn't have problems but when you compare your problems
03:29what we're talking about is how are you relative to everybody else and relative to everybody else
03:37the detroit tigers are middle of the pack and let's even get more specific in the american league
03:45they are sixth in run scored in the american league they are sixth in batting average
03:53in the american league they are sixth in ops out of 15 teams and so it feels and the eye
04:04test tells
04:04you that the offense might be in a crisis but when you zoom out and look at the all of
04:11the teams
04:11that you're competing against their problems are not unique and maybe not as bad as some others
04:19no um but they're four and seven on the season and that's all that matters uh they are one of

04:25think six teams in the american league that have a plus number in the run differential albeit it's plus
04:31one but when we look at individual players and are you seeing improvement yeah parker meadows has
04:38shown improvement parker meadows is actually a bit of an asset right now in fact his war is 0.5
04:44yep which is remarkable when you look at this point in the season um for guys hitting 267 but
04:50he's stealing bases he's helping out in other ways and he's playing great defense um mcgonagall has been
04:57a revelation um far exceeding my expectations for him his war is leading the team with a 0.6 right
05:04now but um great on base percentage at 388 he's hitting 300 had a couple more hits last night
05:09drove in both runs gotta love kevin mcgonagall and then you're starting to see some other guys get
05:15hits torkelson had a couple hits last night glaber torres is walking a ton he's got 12 walks in 11
05:20games
05:21this year it has more walks than strikeouts which i think is the only guy on the team that has
05:25more
05:25walks in strikeouts and he is um so they've got and dylan dingler's off to a good start
05:32but you want to see some more production come out of of riley green you know he has yet to
05:37hit a
05:37home run torkelson has yet to hit a home run colt keith's off to a good start but colt keith
05:42doesn't have a home run either um this team only has seven and 11 games and four of them came
05:48in one
05:48game i suspect that's going to change significantly when the weather shifts but every team has to play
05:54everybody plays in the same weather and you know so it's it's it ends up being excuse
06:00and and look so we asked people on twitter let me get to what their twitter question was

07:03eyeball test crisis relative to the competition this is not a crisis and since we all think they can be
07:10better and should be better what they're doing right now is doing it without some with a lot of
07:17contributions from some key guys like the power has not been there carp hit the two home runs in the
07:25st louis series and that was good to see i give torque credit he had a couple of hits last
07:29night but
07:30still you know he's got two extra base hits in two weeks of baseball um you know dingler's cooled off
07:36quite a bit but mcgonigal continues to swing a hot bat and they need to get more i mean riley

07:43the one right riley green is the guy that you know when there's talk about cutting down on the strikeouts
07:49cutting down on the strikeouts but not the home runs riley like that's that was not part of what
07:54we needed here and you know we know he can hit better than he's been hitting so where are you

08:02with this tiger team do you think they're going to be okay or do you think this is um
08:08indicative of much bigger problems understanding that relative to the competition in the american
08:13league they're actually above above the mean i'm not that concerned about the hitting i think the
08:17hitting is going to be fine in the long run i am concerned about the the bullpen i'm very concerned
08:24that you know putting the eggs in the basket of of drew anderson um emmanuel de jesus
08:31so far that's it's a that's doesn't look good nope um you know i see connor siebel come into games

08:38i and i get a little nervous with that because i'm not sure what what i'm going to get and
08:41he seems to
08:41work himself out of some some difficulties he did last night and he's actually pitched pretty well for
08:45this team so far but um i i flarity i think it's going to be hit or miss all season
08:52long i think the
08:53same thing with casey mize and that fifth starter you know justin verlander or cater montero
09:01i i think that could be if he as well um so if your bottom three guys in your rotation
09:09if they can just maintain 500 they'll be fine because scoobal and valdez are great even though
09:16scoobal got hit up a little bit last night had the trouble in the fifth inning but we know what

09:22is he's you know back to back si young's they can get by with having two stud pitchers if the

09:28three guys are just average the team as a whole hitting wise this is going to be i think when

09:34is said and done maybe an average hitting team but that's good enough if you've got the other the
09:39other aspects of it defensively this should be a pretty good team defensively i like where they're
09:43at or where they're going to be they're not there now i'm not totally discouraged um
09:51i don't love the teams they're losing to this is what scares me a little bit is these teams aren't
09:57supposed to be particularly good like this was they opened with a relatively soft schedule and
10:03they're four and seven baseball's weird it's funky night in night out strange things can happen
10:08some nights you look like world beaters other nights you can't put the bat on the ball at all but
10:13uh and last night was an example of them as they got completely shut down
10:18uh by taj bradley and then they got trolled by the minnesota twins anyway two four eight five three
10:26nine ninety seven ninety seven eleven games in how much weight are you putting in what your eyes tell
